The Four Belfries Walkthrough
Situated along a hill in western Liurnia, The Four Belfries serve as a hub for 3 waygates that transports users to various locations. Each waygate is located at the foot of a belfry and requires an Imbued Sword Key to activate.
- The First Belfry: The first waygate is located closest to the foot of the hill and is denoted by the message reading "Crumbling Lands". This transports you to a small sub-area of the Crumbling Farum Azula containing the Pearldrake Talisman. You cannot access the rest of the region from this sub-area. [Map Link]
- The Second Belfry: The second waygate is located further up the hill to the east and is denoted by the message reading "Precipice of Anticipation". This transports you to the Chapel of Anticipation, the starting area of the game, to fight the Grafted Scion boss who drops Golden Beast Crest Shield and Ornamental Straight Sword, plus lootables: The Stormhawk King and the Stormhawk Deenh. Note: you are able to soak Lord of Blood's Favor in the blood of a deceased maiden near the starting area of the game, providing an alternative to going to the Church of Inhibition or killing Irina. [Map Link].
- The Third Belfry: The third waygate is located further up the hill to the west and and is denoted by the message reading "Night Sky Unceasing". This transports you to an otherwise inaccessible location in Nokron, Eternal City, housing the Mottled Necklace and a Lesser Crucible Knight. [Map Link]. The Knight does not drop any loot except for runes.
- The Fourth Belfry: The final belfry is located at the peak of the hill. This belfry does not contain a waygate, but instead houses a chest containing an Imbued Sword Key. This can be used to unlock a waygate at the First, Second or Third Belfry.

I feel like this location played an important role in the Night of the Black Knives. Each portal seems to have some connection to Godwyn's murder and the events of the game. "Night Sky Unceasing" leads to to Nokron, where the assassins came from. "Crumbling Lands" leads to Farum Azula, the place where Maliketh resides and a part of the Rune of Death was stolen. And lastly, Chapel of Anticipation is where the player wakes up. This location also appears in the "Prophecy" painting, further hinting that this is all part of some grand scheme. Perhaps the Chapel of Anticipation is also where Godwyn was murdered, seeing as it used to be part of Stormveil Castle.

does anyone know if the beast dudes from the Farum Azula one have a chance to drop loot? Been farming them a little but they've only dropped Sanctuary Stones so far.

So, what's the lore here?
The belfries have erdtree emblems engraved into them, so they must be related to the golden order.
But there are urns and mirror-plates above each portal, which look like they're from the eternal city.
And the stonesword keys are imbued - I guess the raya lucaria academy must have done that.
Was this some sort of lands between UN research project to experiment with teleportation?

We need to add that you can get the maidens blood for white mask varre's quest from the starting room in belfry number 2.

Hot take: I wish the open world was a third of its current size, and fast travel was limited to the belfries, unlocked using the imbued stonesword keys, which are placed strategically to encourage progression. Basically Limgrave/WP, Caelid, the underground areas, and the legacy dungeons in terms of land area. Move the "four belfries" to a central location of the map, with portals leading to major points of interest. Then add an extensive network of hidden paths and secret shortcuts like DS1. These could include other hidden sending gates and teleporter traps.

There's no such thing as "wasted a key", once you opened the portal, it stays open forever. And if you opened the one that you didn't intend to, just be patient and find another key later on. 3 keys, 3 portals, open forever, nothing's wrong with that.

It seems like these were an after thought. Would have been better to had made them as DLC and expand their areas with new enemies.
The three you can access just feel really lame

Spoiler : Second one allows to complete the Lord of Blood's favor item with the maiden's blood.
uhm actually the third belfry area also has a ghost glovewart 2

I managed to snipe the Crucible Knight to death (the one in the third belfry) with a Golem Greatbow and the Arrow's Reach Talisman

The fact that the options here are:
Unique weapons and smithing stones
Vs
Talismans that you can get +1 versions of easily
Just a baffling choice

Ahhh the butterflies...they are blue...they must be doing something.....

Lies, please change the order of locations please. So future players don't get confused.
- Anonymous
I love all the comments about being confused as to which is which. They are all clearly marked with a sign that tells you.
- Anonymous
Anticipation is the only good one, you get revenge, a sword and shield (idk how good they are), a summon, and a quest item that leads to TWO ANCIENT DRAGON SMITHING STONES, the other two lead you to talismans that you can get a +1 or higher version elsewhere.

maybe change name from 123 to south west and north.. wasted my key

You're literally @#*Tting me. I somehow managed to skip the Chapel of Anticipation at the beginning of the game. So I went back. Now the 'boss' was easy. And then as I'm exploring there's a collapsing ledge and 'YOU DIED'.
There's ragequit BS in many places of this game, but that one goes far beyond.

please for the love of god swap the second and third belfries

Always go church portal and then the other ones.
Church is only really necessary one (progresses npcs quests + provides weapons and ash) the others are just to give you a glimpse of future areas + giving you weakest version of talismans that you'll get better versions of later

Point No. 2 may be inaccurate. I just got Stormhawk King and Stormhawk Deenh without requiring to use Stone Sword Key.
- Anonymous
I didn't need a Stone Sword Key to get the Stormhawk King and Stormhawk Deenh. The door was already open.

Honestly by the time you even get the imbued sword keys to unlock the portals the gear is useless

I've been wondering forever who that person was standing on the bridge where you get the mottled necklace. Was hoping it was a cool NPC, but nope...
- Anonymous
I did the church of anticipation first so the other two were such a letdown.

Cleared all three bellfries. Killed everything. Pretty much a waste of time.

Its at the top of the mou tain to the left of the 4th tower.

As you ride UP THE HILL:
Left 1: Crumbling Ruins
Left 2: That hidden City with a knight
Right: Church of Anticipation.

For some reason, I cannot find the site of grace at all for this location.

The 2nd and 3rd Belfries seem misaranged. The Church of Anticipation is closest to the 1st so should be listed as the 2nd Belfry
- Anonymous
Belfry that takes you to chapel, after 1.3 patch, beast dropped ornamental straight sword and golden dragon crest shield
- Anonymous
The first belfry is bullshit. Even using cotton, there’s no way to get down without immediately alerting the enemies. Playing a melee build, this simply feels broken.
It was also a horrible introduction to a new area. What should have been awe-inspiring fell flat completely within mere moments due to the horrible design of this one little, unnecessary pocket in the environment.

Fairly sure the only purpose of these teleporters is to get some free items, a sneak peek at Nokron/Farum Azula out of the context of quest progression, and to give you a few challenging fights and a chance at getting revenge from the intro boss
- Anonymous
so can i just use them or do i need some item or to do a puzzle?

I lost over 60k sou- I mean runes on the Nokron one because of this game's retarded ****ing fall damage system. Be really careful when you're going down to the leaning pillar. Died to parry practice knight then went back. I dropped to the pillar with Torrent, completely survivable landing, but because I jumped at the last second it somehow considered that extra airtime to be a lethal fall distance despite only going horizontally. Just drop down there on foot instead.

Personally I thing the purpose of these portals (aside from the few items) is to send you to "look-out" locations that are supposed to give you a sense of wonderment and awe... Make you think. That's what they did for me. Especially the location of the knight! That area is absolutely astounding!

Killed Cruciable Knight. Like many others he dropped nkthing very dissapointed

you dont need that third belfry gate to access the location in question. you can jump down from a cliff behind hallowhorn grounds.
- Anonymous
the crucible knight one might just be an easy way to farm for his shield to drop?
in the portal that brings you to the tornado far left you fight two beast and pick up the pearldrake talisman
- Anonymous
if you go to the chapel of anticipation; yes there is the starter boss to beat, you get loot from him; but if you go back to the closed door from the start their are two other items. Both are Ashes; War Hawk, and Stormhawk Deenh.
- Anonymous
The 3rd belfry that takes you to Nokron gives you access to the Mottled necklace: a talisman that increases immunity, robustness, and focus.
- Anonymous
the last portal you fight the first multi arm boss you get his sword and shield and in the castle is a key item and stormhawk dehn
- Anonymous
This has to be the most disappoint place in the game, It's set up like a challenge but just falls through by simple having a few normal mobs and no loot or anything worth of value.
- Anonymous
Killed everything in all the portals. Nothing happened that I am aware of.
- Anonymous
If you take the second tower back to the start of the game; beware the butterflies.
- Anonymous
Maybe these are just place holders for future DLC content??
- Anonymous
hey the crucible knight at the nokron portal didnt drop anything, is this a bug? it was a big one
- Anonymous
The second portal I didn't really find anything of value. Just an mini boss no good drops.
- Anonymous
What was the point of the 3rd belfry? I killed the knight and didn't receive a reward. Anyone else found something out?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The Nokron waygate brings you to a formidable fight against a knight. Really enjoyed it. I'm very surprised though, that I didn't drop anything upon killing him. Anyone got more lucky?
Also, does anything happen if you complete all three of them?
- Anonymous
You get the mottled necklace talisman after killing to enemies then drop down the platforms.
- Anonymous
I'm fairly certain the Third Belfry is completely useless, I beat the enemy on the edge of the platform, and it didn't drop anything, lootwise, or automatically given.
I also didn't pay attention to the rune value of the kill, but I honestly doubt its worth it for how hard the fight is.
- Anonymous
I killed the guy in the Nokron warp here, but when he died he didn't drop anything at all. No runes, no items, and he wasn't treated like a boss encounter. He approached me while brandishing a weapon, ready to right, fairly certain he wasn't a friendly NPC, so I can't think of why he dropped nothing.
- Anonymous
i used my key to go to Nokron, but all that was there was a drop down to a crucible knight and a talisman. the crucible knight didn't even drop anything :(

The Four Belfries? More like The Four Erdleafs.
