Moonlight Altar is a Location in Elden Ring. The Moonlight Altar is a sub-region of Liurnia of the Lakes found in the southwest, high above the plateau. This area is accessible only after making significant progress in Ranni's questline, up to the point where you defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void in the Grand Cloister and gain access to the lift in the Deep Ainsel Well, which leads up to the plateau.
The Moonlight Altar is a large plateau bathed in lunar rays, found high above in the southwest of Liurnia. This plateau hosts the ruins of a civilization that held great reverence for the moon.

Elden Ring Moonlight Altar Maps and Notes
- From this plateau you can see the full moon next to the Erdtree and the dark moon behind it.
- Standing at the stone astrolabe at the Cathedral of Manus Celes, your sightline towards the full moon cuts directly across both Raya Lucaria and Caria Manor.

So, quick question. My friend and I are co-oping through the whole game. Does killing Rennala lock out co-op for this area?
- Anonymous
This area is absolute ass. I had no issues with the enemies although its an assortment of "**** You", but ive died so many ****ing time trying to get down to the wolf. Terrible design. Why not use the protruding headstones like every other ****ing dropdown in the game?

The cathedral of manus celes and moonfolk ruins provide good cover from Adula's glintstone fire. It allows for effective hit and run then ducking out before it can one shot you.

Why are the crystallians doing so much damage? I have heavy armor and 40 vigor, but they are still ganking me in 4-5 quick hits.
- Anonymous
Not sure if anyone has said this, but during the Combustion of a certain tree, if you go to Moonlight Alter one of the moons has vanished. In addition, you can see both versions of the tree. Burnt and Unburnt. Maybe the Burnt one is covering up one of the moons. Its an odd sight to see.

2 Glintstone dragons at once, 3 crystallians, the red wolf, Alecto..... FromSoftware is at it again

The wolf took me by surprise, attacked me once, then jumped off the cliff and died. Thank you I guess...

This area seemly massively overturned for when a player would reasonably find it.

I hate this area with a burning passion. The dragons are extremely annoying here and always fell off the cliff before I could kill them, only to teleport behind my back later and attack me all at once. There is a revenant and even worse, another of those foxwolf hybrids. The turtle puzzle is bugged. Alecto is extremely difficult without the cliff bait.
And before you say there's Ranni's quest, gotta say I wasn't really amazed by that. She literally looks like bloodsoaked rope welded to a garden gnome. Moonlight sword is cool though so if you run on an int build it is worth it. Also rewards are fine

A warning, just in case: I'm not sure if this was just a one time thing on my part, but the Red Wolf at Altar South killed me and I respawned at the Moonlight Altar grace site, but I immediately fell through the map and died. Lost quite a lot of runes because of that.

Found the 3rd turtle to be located on a cliff south of the Lunar Estates.... like all the way down.... :D

For those who are having issues with the wise beast turtles not appearing bug…go read the book again at base of tower then DO NOT fast travel. They’ll be there.

The enemies in this area are annoying as hell but god damn is it a beautiful place

I wonder what the f Astel or Lake of Rot have to do with this place. Geographically is just a hill in Liurnia but we have to beat this Eldritch monstrosity to use a lift that gets us there?

where did the wiki get the italicized lore blurb about this area? is it from a guide book, or some other item description or something?

Has anyone found a purpose for the Updraft in this area? Is it obvious and I'm just missing it?

The dragons were easy to kill without being hit with the misericorde with flame of the redmanes..... But that wolf on the other hand is a different breed oof

Here's a couple of ez cheese if you don't have high faith/int-
1. the one nearest to the cliff will fly down if you stay near edge and if you keep standing on the edge he won't fly up. You can shoot it down easily with longbow
2. The one closest to ruins nearby can be lured there and then u can use summon ash to 2v1 it.
A basic tip is to keep whoever you're fighting away from the others since triggering other means they will start using fire and comet spell on you which are hard to dodge from 2 dragons at once. Also, you can hide behind a rock and heal (use slow healing talisman if you're out of flasks) because the dragon will continue to spam 2 spells -fire and comet- alternatively and won't do anything else.

This is easily the most stupidest and worst areas of the game. I am saying this after completing 2 playthroughs.
The turtle puzzle is still bugged on my original account. I had used stone key prior to going to tower and I have found 2 turtles (the nearest 1 and the sprintspring one). The second one doesn't spawn even after changing time, reloading game, resting at site and every other suggestion i have seen here, on reddit and on youtube.
Coming to the 3 stupid dragons. They aren't difficult by themselves but because of the uneven terrain and dragon jumping around, the bullshit camera angles mess up the fight and they often fly towards areas where u can't go even with torrent. Multiple times they would just sit on top of high rocks throwing spells and fire. Basically a big F U to melee only users. I used int build on my second account and killed all 3 without dying once. Whoever designed this fight here has no idea how to make fights.

3 dragons literally together with uneven, crappy terrain where either the dragon will fall down, get stuck or you'll die to flame cuz of the camera. I dunno what they were thinking while designing this horrendous place.

Does giving Seluvis'potion to Ranni lock me out of this area?
- Anonymous
This whole area is basically a collection of the games most annoying enemies.
- Anonymous
I finished Ranni's quest at around 80 with not too many problems, but when I got here it felt like I was under leveled by at least 30.
- Anonymous
I wonder what happens if you completely ignore Rannis.quest and end up here. Would the two fingers she kills be there?
- Anonymous
The 3 dragon is truly annoying enemy, not hard but they tend to fly everywhere. One fly down to the cliff where he won't reset his position. I run down trying to finish it off, then realize there is a big red wolf down there throwing magical blade at me. Fun time

I hit only a single turtle and the seal on the rise opened, also anyone know if the three unnamed Glinststone Dragons drop anything besides runes? I also noticed they CAN damage each other but it's hard to bait attacks against one without getting hit by another.

Chelona's Rise, more like Chelona's Lies. There's only two turtles. The third is unlocked by using a stonesword key at the Lunar Estate Ruins.
- Anonymous
there are three unnamed glinstone dragons to the southwest of the Moonlight Altar site of Grace.
- Anonymous
So, there's the west of the tower giant cliff turtle, the flying one over the evergaol jump stream and I think the last Beast was the red wolf using magic as the tower opened for me and I got rannis dark moon sorcery
- Anonymous
Strangely, I had the message about the seal on the rise disappearing after only hitting the two turtles mentioned in the comments. Maybe the 3rd wise beast was the red wolf north of the rise? Or the dragon? I hadn't seen any 3rd spectral turtle.

A second turte is floating in the sky above the jump spring next to the evergaol

"This area is only accessible after defeating Astel, Stars of Darkness"
This part is wrong. You only need to beat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void down in the Grand Cloister to reach Moonlight Altar.

The Rise in the very southwestern tip is blocked by a puzzle. "Find the three great beasts".
The first one is just to the west of the tower on the side of the cliff. You need to walk right up to the edge and look down, or to the side, depending on where you are. You can see it from almost anywhere along the western cliffside.
Can't find the other two yet.

from the grace in this zone, Dragon to the West, Lunar Estate ruins to the east with the Cerulean Amber medallion +2 "Vastly raises maximum FP"
It's a fine enough spot but quitting the game here almost bricked the save but instead only bricked that 6 hour session, so now I have to kill malenia again. Thanks fromsoft
