Found on a cliff in the Dragonbarrow, this one holds an esteemed Battlemage, who developed a longing for conflict. |
Sellia Evergaol is a Location in Elden Ring. The Sellia Evergaol is found in Dragonbarrow.
From Dragonbarrow West site of grace, follow the road to the east. Head south at where you get the Dragonbarrow map to reach Sellia Evergaol.
Alternatively, From Caelem Ruins, go due East and there will be a small ledge to jump over into Dragonbarrow a little north of the branch you would jump on to get to the abandoned cave. Jump over the ledge and then hug the ridgeline South. You will come to another ledge where you will jump down. Continue south and you will see the Evergaol.
You will battle the boss: Battlemage Hugues, and upon defeating him, you will gain the Spirit Ashes to summon Battlemage Hugues and be returned to the surface.

Sellia Evergaol Walkthrough
Once you enter and approach the light, the boss will appear. He is quite tanky for a mage, and uses sorcery at close and long range. He often casts Great Glintstone Shard, switching to Cannon of Haima at long range. His Gavel of Haima is fairly telegraphed and easy to avoid. His meager defense will mean only a few swings will take him down.

Ok I got Battlemage Hugues out in Altus. By the Road of Iniquity Side Path site of Grace. Battlemage Hugues was up on a hill side... so kind of weird. Maybe it was just a bug for me?

Ride here from Dragonbarrow West, much less confusing than the suggested direction. Just set a waypoint and ride straight to it.

Easy practice for much worse magic bosses later on. Stay in his face and his spells wont even touch you. Watch range as he can spam haima cannon all day!

You can use the large tree to block basically all of his magic attacks. Just keep in mind that one of his magic attacks creates a massive AoE explosion, which can hit you through the tree if you're too close to where it strikes the tree. Other than that, dodge his basic ranged magic, his magic hammer attack, and basic melee attack. He's easily staggered, especially by jumping power attacks, which leads to crit opportunities.
He's quite easy, really. NOTHING compared to Crucible Knight.

Description is a little confusing. You want to head Due East from the Caelem Ruins grace point until you cross the ravine, then hug the ridgeline going south and you'll run right into it
If anyone out there is struggling this this boss try:
Bubble tear physick modifier(ill explain why later)
your choice of weapon with the Prayerful Strike ash of war
Prayerful strike knocks him down every single time you cast it, if you charge up another cast as soon as possible while hes down he wont ever get a spell off
if you run out of stamina and he manages to get a hit off on you, you have bubble tear to tank the damage.
I used this strategy in both NG and NG+ and it works fine. Just run at him as soon as you get in and charge up a prayerful strike while hes spawning in.
