Jori, Elder Inquisitor Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Jori, Elder Inquisitor:
- Use the ?? Ash Summons
- Use the ?? Spell
- Bring ?? Item
Melee Users
Jori, Elder Inquisitor can be found in the Abyssal Woods, from the Darklit Catacombs Site of Grace, make your way through the catacombs and through the mist to the boss' arena. This boss doesn't move fast at all and deals piercing damage and holy damage. Jori will cast spells most of the time unless you are fighting at melee range, then he will start to use his staff-spear to attack you.
Jori will raise his staff and it will glow and cast out multiple crescent-shaped spells that will follow you, this can be indicated by the small glow on the tip of his staff. You will need to dodge forward if you want to gain up to him or sideways and use the environment to block the spells so you can avoid them overall. Another spell that he performs is a Triple Crescent Spell, this is where he will raise his staff again but send out only 3 crescent-shaped spells in the direction of a cone towards you, this attack can be telegraphed when he slowly swings his staff from one side to the other when casting the spell. You can easily dodge to the sides to avoid it or forward if you want to get closer to him. His next spell attack is his Single Crescent Spell, which is a much larger Crescent-shaped Spell toward you, this attack can be telegraphed when he swings his staff towards his body to send out the giant crescent spell. You can perform a perfectly timed dodge roll forward to avoid receiving damage. Hori's last spell attack is his Ground Spells, he can summon circle spells on the ground where you're standing that will deal damage to you, this attack can be telegraphed when Jori holds his staff up with both his hands and the same spell animation can be seen on his staff. You will have to keep running or dodging away from these circles to avoid receiving damage.
Jori has a few melee attacks he performs with his staff, one of which is his staff sweep, he will raise his staff and then swing it at you. This attack can be telegraphed when he turns his body to his right, exposing his back. You will need to time your dodge to the right to avoid receiving damage as well as attacking him. His next melee attack is his Staff Stab, he will use his staff to stab straight at you, this attack can be indicated when he brings his staff back while facing you before stabbing you. You can dodge to either side to avoid this attack and attack him when you can. Once Jori, Elder Inquisitor is defeated, he will drop 260000 Runes and a Barbed Staff-Spear.
Magic and Ranged Users
If you keep your distance, he'll keep his. With enough room, all his ranged attacks are not difficult to roll through or run from. The gravestones and trees will block his projectiles more than yours.
For ranged, the summons are the real difficulty, They can be ran from, but it is a test of patience to keep clearing them out just to get one shot in before another group is summoned. Spirit Ash is very helpful for drawing them away.

As an rl1 melee build this fight was a pain in the ass, but i guess thats what i get for not leveling up, glad its over, too much rng

this is genuinely one of the worst bossfights in the entire game, its like they took note of everything that makes a bossfight bad and combined it into one
-cant stagger them out of their attacks
-projectile spam
-summons (summon spam)
-teleportation
-stunlock
like atleast put a cooldown on the summoning or something, its essentially impossible to approach the boss before they summon another 8 enemies

This entire fight is a clown show. Summon your mimic and backstab the boss whenever you can. Backstabbing is the key to winning this fight. For me, I summoned my mimic with a staff in hand at the time of summoning so he'll copy you and cast spells.
Once he was summoned I switched to my sword and all I did was chase the boss down and backstab him while my mimic cast various offensive spells. The mimic is basically a distraction tool to backstab the boss.
I don't care how many people down-vote this comment. This bosses design is dung.
Good riddance to this boss.

pretty crazy how they added your mom as one of the boss's summons. brings back good memories :^)

Fairly easy boss if you are going for backstabs, just put some holy protection talisman or shield in case barrages get too overwelming

I just ran away from everything until he did the move where he’s shooting the bursts up from the ground and would back stab him, then repeat, sacred relic sword also helps with taking out the mobs with wave of gold

Hardest boss in the DLC for me. Some backstory: I'm a lvl 60 mage with +5/12 equipment. When you are playing a character that is mostly one shot by everything since day one, and throw in projectile spam, 4-5 summons zerging and also spamming projectiles, it's an interesting time. Pro tip, heal behind the gravestones, and you can get massive damage on him if he does his 9x channeling spam on a summon, just be patient and wait for the right opportunity, don't get caught flasking while he rings his bell, because that might be a 2x fire breather insta death, or ending up inside a fat summon's sphincter. Again, the largest opening is right after the 9th channeled spam attack

Getting flashbacks to those times I invaded people just to progress Varre’s questline. I need to sit down.

i found out you can use deflecting tear the small projectiles while running at him and it does not slow you down at all. straight up mgrr'd his ass
Just want to say, I got a lot of mileage out of the Erdtree Greatshield on this fight

I'm seeing a lot of people complain about the design of this boss, which is understandable. While it is annoying to play tag, you can cheese this by using RoB spam and Ancient Dragon Lightning Strike. Use a summon to draw aggro from the ghosty bois and you should be okay.

I just used blood tax on the great katana and bum rushed this boss

One of the coolest OSTs in the game for some seemingly obscure character. He may have been responsible for the damnation of Midra and execution of the servants / people of the Manse.

if you are underlevelled and cant ungabunga your way to victory this will make you pop a vein
and you can't change your loadoats easily because the bonfire is literally back in narnia
imagine you're playin street fighter vs guile sonic boom spam, mixed with JP fierce spam + 4 dhalsim yoga fire mfs + ehonda buttslam all at the same time
I feel like I am running a marathon bruv
Lessons I learned:
1) you can easily walk to his back and backstab his ass while he spams the "JP spike", but for some reason the second half it stops working and voila you got baited into death
2) you can run near the ghosts to proc their moveset and make them despawn asap
3) ehonda time = time to run near him, proc the moveset and run backwards for a few miles so the camera is facing the sonic boom spam while you wait ehonda to despawn
now go take a lap or two or twenty, my stamina bar is literally not built for this, I have to be doing something wrong

Used Mimic Tear with Greatstars +25. Poise broke him so often he only jumped once before he was done.
- Anonymous
Dual wielding flamberges melted this guy. Put a haligdrake talisman on to cut some of his nasty holy damage.
- Anonymous
Rushed in with bleed backhand blades +25 and Blind Spot, dodged one or two attacks of him, did like 2 blindspots and spamed R1 and he was down with a solid 30500 damage number in one go. My friend tells me this dude is super annoying..
Well, I can recommend bleed backhands, lol

This guy gave me a bigger challenge than the ****in dancing beast, lmfao. Guess they just rolled the dice for some bosses

This fight is pretty fun in my opinion - bosses like Crystal Sage have always existed and I'm not sure why people suddenly aren't okay with gimmick bosses anymore.
Pretty simple boss, keep locked on when he's alone and run at him, lock off when he summons his fat waifu so you can rotate the camera to see them both.
- Anonymous
This mfer is so goddamn annoying. Cost me 800.000 runes because I couldn't even get to my damn pile before he cheap-ass spammed me to death. I don't know if it's good or bad "boss design" but he was unpleasant to fight.
- Anonymous
What really bothers me is it seems like all the new DLC bosses literally attack before you're even done with the threshold entry animation. I feel like you're stunlocked before the fight even starts if it isn't the very first try. Loving the story so far but really not enjoying the boss fights (even if the boss itself is really cool).

Beat him on my first try and still was mad afterwards. 80% of the bosses in this DLC are just unfun. Nobody asked for more teleporting magic spam gank bosses because nobody wants to spend 5 minutes running around in circles waiting for chances to actually hit the boss. What were they thinking with garbage like this?

Given I have the same name as him, seeing so much Jori hate saddens me :(

A new low for From. The quality of these bosses is just disappointing. Similar to the Crystal Sage from DS3 except subpar in every aspect.

Any soulslike tourist chump complaining about this boss fight is exactly that. Git gud and learn to backstab xd

Easily one of the best boss in FromSoftware history…

genuinely saddened that someone at from had the audacity to tarnish such a good dlc with such an awful excuse for a fight

Cool boss. Easy to backstab when casting the vortex spam attack.
- Anonymous
If you have trouble with the High Priest Not to Be Described, use Bloodhound's Step and evade his ranged attacks. Bleeding affects him quite a bit. And use a spiritual ash tank to distract the summoned and go straight for him.
Good luck, then comes the hell of the king in yellow.

I got so lucky I think. 2nd attempt fot him with dual guardian swordspear jumps. Even though I only fought him twice he feels like the biggest bullshit. Maybe just me.
- Anonymous
Learning he can be backstabbed makes this fight infinitely easier. Took me an embarrassing amount of tried NGL XD
- Anonymous
It is an optional boss I beat the whole dlc without fighting him until after
- Anonymous
Are you able to get their robes or anything similar in the DLC?
- Anonymous
Solid boss. Fun fight, even with "ganky" summons. That said, 95% of the bosses are excellent fun as long as you aren't hitting them with a toothpick and only a few really need tuning adjustments (which FromSoft ALWAYS does). But this one, felt just right, not too crazy but also enough to keep the player on the move. Could probably be destroyed with some AoE build though, maybe Black Flame Tornado or Sacred Blade AoW.
- Anonymous
Insane comments, this is not a hard boss at all. He has pretty easy openings and you can dodge most stuff by simply running and strafing / using the terrain
- Anonymous
He is optional isn't he? I can fight the end boss without beating him
- Anonymous
Not sure what all this hype about, beat him on a second attempt
- Anonymous
Love this boss. It's proof they CAN STILL do gimmick bosses and do them RIGHT. This feels like an evolution of the Prowling Magus and Deacons formula, it was just a blast ngl. ER lacks those neat gimmick bosses that test your specific build tbh, this is heading in the right direction. Keep this up, From!!!

I guess I'm weird I actually enjoyed this boss fight. I used the tombstones to avoid his magic, used a holy liver, and back stabbed him a bunch. I summoned in a tanky spirit ash to draw add aggro about halfway thru the fight when the fat man showed up, ignored the adds and kept l being aggressive. Tried the black knife assassin summon and it was actually quite bad, it spent more time hopping around than actually attacking. I think the multiple enemies really confused is AI.

I didn’t realize so many people had issues with this boss. I found him extremely easy, you just gotta be smart about it. The ads he spawns don’t have much health, and the boss himself is extremely squishy. If you try and burst him down quickly you might have an issue, but take your time and he’s a cake walk. Beat him my third attempt.

From was like let's simulate the average invader gank fest except give this spammy mage 300 poise so u can't ever interrupt him
- Anonymous
this fight sucks. really hate how fromsoft seems to want to force everyone to use summons. i get this guy down to half hp and after that theres actually no openings for melee
- Anonymous
never been more happy to find out you can chain backstab a boss
- Anonymous
backstab and parry if u're non bleed melee build like me. backstab to dodge Multiple Crescent Spells from adds.
Whoah, this boss sucks at rl20 +3/+1. If you wanna that sweet madness perfume on yer twink tho, he is a must. I killed him using dung eater, rotten breath (the usual low level setup lol) and a blood zweihander to break poise and backstab. Make sure he aggroed on dungie, rot him, then when he teleports run to him and backstab, backstab, backstab... One wrong move or bad rng and u ded tho, prepare to suffer
- Anonymous
noticed a bug, while fighting them i had a small little bit of fun, i assume that was unintended by the developers

Easily the most annoying boss of the DLC. His whole design is just "random bullshit go". And he teleports away without any sound cue of where he went. Not very fun, but at least he's defintely unique, I guess.
- Anonymous
Designed to negate summons, since they get distracted by his own temporary ones.
- Anonymous
See, you're just meant to upgrade your Scadoodledoo Blessings. Miyazaki could do no wrong! It's not bad game design; you're just not good enough. Anyways I'm off to watching the 30 second cutscene of Jori summoning another congregation again :)

Pro tip: This boss can easily be backstabbed if you go behind him
Figuring this out really helped me beat him

If you use fast bleed damage you can melt him effortlessly, but if you stick around to see more of his attacks, you end up learning of the totally awesome secret that he's actually just really annoying. He can summon like 5 adds at once, use a spell that chases you down with like 10 repeating shots which is so fun when he decides to use it as soon as you enter the arena, and he teleports around like the crystal sage. I don't mind the concept. Ranged holy magic, summoning adds, keeping his distance, but it really feels like they just made him throw a bunch of crap at you rather than making him interesting to fight. Also he comes after a dungeon that's so long and linear it has a stake of marika in the middle of it.

average faith summoner build ganker, i slapped pearldrake and halidrake and bonk him with great club to show who own the place

this bullet hell of a boss cost me 10 million runes. (yes, seriously.) I died killing it, and hadn't grabbed my runes since during the whole fight I couldn't maneuver how I needed for long enough.

Bait out his white circle attack and backstab him. **** this guy and whoever made him

Another wonderful boss that spams magic, teleports away constantly and summons adds non-stop that last a long time and do insane damage. From's great design philosophy shining through yet again.
- Anonymous
Been noticing a pattern among many of the bosses this DLC, they have many issues: Too much health, awful camera tracking, way too long attack combos, etc. I love the souls series' difficulty and all, but a lot of the bosses in this DLC are more so annoying than enjoyably difficult. This one especially, being he is legit just backstab simulator while trying to avoid spell-spam.

This fight is fine once you can deal with the summons. The little guys take me one swing with a curved sword and the big fat bastard takes about 3. I usually hate gank bosses but I enjoyed this one, just wish the fat bastard didn't dodge attacks so much.

He can be backstabbed, most his moves lock him looking a certain way aswell, especially the ground spells. Helped me alot
I have no idea what this boss does. He died too fast.
