Madding Hand is a Fist in Elden Ring. It was added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Madding Hand scales primarily with StrengthDexterityIntelligence, and Faith and is a good Weapon for inflicting Madness

A glove stitched together from the flayed skin of the victims of a butcherous bloodbath. Afflicts target with madness. Raises attack power when madness is triggered in the vicinity.
Forged of an unyielding, black impulse toward revenge fostered in those who were hunted down as heretics by their own brethren, these are the weapons of the utterly downtrodden.

Elden Ring Madding Hand Notes & Tips

  • Weapon Skill: Madding Spear-Hand Strike
  • This weapon cannot be infused with Ashes of War
  • Can't be buffed by Magic or Consumables
  • Madding Hand can be upgraded by using Somber Smithing Stones
  • As a passive bonus, it increases damage by +7.5% (5% in PvP) for 30 seconds after you or an enemy suffer from Madness. This affects spells too.
    • The passive gets applied even if the player does not meet the stat requirements for the Madding Hand.
  • Stacks with other Madness-proc activated buffs such as Black Dumpling and Aged One's Exultation.
  • Damage boost doesn't work if Madness is triggered on NPCs or players with Inescapable Frenzy due to the animation rendering you invincible, which interferes with how exultation effects are coded to trigger.
  • This weapon shares its R2s with the Star Fist.
  • Strength and Dexterity both increase the physical and fire damage at the same time. Leveling Intelligence and/or Faith will only raise the fire damage.
  • NOTE: Patch 1.13: (PvP Exclusive) Increased poise damage of dual wield attacks of all Fists.

    • I don't know what's the reson behind the random 13 Int requirement, but hey wouldn't hurt to occasionally swap in Stargazer Heirloom for niche situations, since my old Strenght/Faith toolbox char only had 9 Int forever since it's creation.
Notably because Madding Spear-Hand Strike proccing Madness' stun into Angel's Wings is such a banger combo for NPC or to cut short some PVP in the wild before it turn into an attrition war.

        Don't worry, guys!

This glove is 1000000% safe to wear!

Hmm? Shaking hands while using it?

        Well...It's 1000000000000% safe too!!!!!!

Oh riiiight, Hand of maddening. The maddening hand, Slapper of mad, Hand of madness. The hand SPECIFICALLY for Maddening, Hand of possible shabriri. That hand?

Whoever it was that was co-oping Agatio and Karst and was spamming this thing's ash like Agatio spams stun muscle, I ain't even mad. I respect the dedication, y'all are alright. :D

Seems like a str/fth weapon, as 13 int is the same int needed for orders blade, which is very useful for several str/fth weapons.

              • Anonymous

Ffs fake requirement is so high at least should be lowered to 14... even proper faith weapons dont have req that high

                • Anonymous

Between this weapon and the Poisoned Hand, which both seem to be crafted by Hornsent, I wonder if there's any significance to the fact that both these gloves are stitched out of flayed skin, just like the Godskin pelts.

Seems there are already lots of subtle connections between the Godskin apostles and Enir-Illim (the spiral motifs), so I wonder if using skin to make garments is some kind of Hornsent tradition that the Godskins appropriated (see Spiraltree Seal), or else if this is a hint that the Godskins are of Hornsent origin themselves. Just spitballing.

Would have been nice if we finally got a weapon that gets buffed by mostly faith and intelligence but instead all of the weapons we got for madness get boosted by strength, dexterity, or both more than faith and intelligence. They could have scaled it E/E/C/C and it would be so much better

                    • Anonymous

Perfect for madness buff-stacking shenanigans! Equip black dumpling hat, aged one's exultation talisman and this for 41.9% dmg buff for 30s when madness is proc. Use either frenzyflame stone and/or howl of shabriri to self-proc, pair with golden vow for 100% dmg boost!!

Just a friendly reminder that this weapon is mostly a strength weapon, dex only begins being better at about strength 80, and the Int and Faith barely add anything even at absurdly high rune levels. This is much more of a stand-alone strength weapon than weapon that slots into a FF build, and when you realize that it helps it shine a lot more. Focus just on the weapon, not the spells

I love the Madding Fists on my Frenzied Build. Especially against invaders it's quite good if you manage to get a special attack in. Almost always instant madness

                          • Anonymous

Why do they had to give an INT requirement when nothing else from the FF does? Give me a break FromSoftware

                            • Anonymous

Madding hand buffs 7.5% for 30 seconds whilst poison hand buffs 7.5% for 20 seconds. I wish there's an easier way to self proc madness...

                              • Anonymous

Just have this equipped in your off hand when you proc madness, buff stays when you switch weapons and you don't even need to meet the requirements to equip the hand for everyone complaining about 3 INT. Free additional 7.5% buff for 1 stone weight.

The madding spear-hand isn't an instant madness proc. I met a guy who tanked not once, but twice. You either need extremely high focus or he was a hacker

                                  • Anonymous

"frenzyflame seal has int scaling too." That is a seal, this is a weapon. Why does this WEAPON not have the same scaling as the madness WEAPON from the base game. All it does is make a potentially cool weapon useless outside of buffing yourself for damage and then immediately equipping anything else in the game.

                                    • Anonymous

Good people of fextra, can anybody tell me if I can still get the buff from procing madness on myself without meeting the stats req?

                                      • Anonymous

My biggest gripe is that outside of using it for instant madness procs on L2 it is downright atrocious. The damage is truly pitiful, even if you try to optimize for it. Obviously a weapon that deals madness shouldn't get amazing damage, but Vyke's Spear in comparison does decent damage compared to other Great Spears and can still proc madness quickly with it's AoW.

                                        • Anonymous

On 60 fth, this does a pathetic 390 damage. You'll just better off putting sacred affinity on literally any other fist weapon

                                          • Anonymous

8 Str, 8 Dex, 13 Int and 20 Fai but it doesn't scale mostly with faith. Considering the requirement is more than the Torch and Vykes Spear in faith, it should scale best with faith and then the others.

                                            • Anonymous

this 7.5% buff stays even if you unequip the madding hand like the talisman and hat, so it works as a great secondary weapon for applying the buff then swapping back to main weapon

                                              • Anonymous

Why does this have 4 D scalings instead of being a faith weapon like every Madness stuff from the base game?

                                                • Anonymous

you ever think frenzy builds will ever understand that this things l2 has non existent range or should we just let them keep doing it until they get tired?

                                                  • Anonymous

Do you still get the damage bonus to madness in vicinity if this weapon is equipped but is in your offhand? Like in the case of two staffs

                                                    • Anonymous

God if only it didn't take intelligence it would be worth messing with. Its just so suboptimal since none of the other madness equipment takes intelligence and this on its own dosnt really warrant enough to waste 6 levels on

                                                      • Anonymous

The weapon skill has an interesting move where when you quickly free-aim left or right and towards the ground, your hitbox is changed to where you can dodge some poke attacks — if the latency is good.
Also, Spear-Hand into instant Madness > charged heavy > Spear-Hand roll catch is perhaps a little busted in PvP. But hey, there's actual variations in madness builds now?

                                                        • Anonymous

The ash of war of this weapon (when it procs madness) true combos into a R2 -> R2, with the weapon itself buffing you for getting madness proc near you and the AGED ONE'S EXULTATION doing the same thing, this true combo can do an insane amount of damage. Definitely worth checking out if your into pvp

                                                          • Anonymous

If you can proc madness to urself, you can run BLACK DUMPLING, AGED ONE'S EXULTATION, and this melee and you can get your damage boosted 3 times after a madness proc on you or npc enemies. A few additional buffs such as flame grant me strength, golden vow and a fire tear boost can get you even more damage. Definitely worth giving a shot.

                                                            • Anonymous

This and the poison hand both use the ball fist moveset and they seem to have forgotten to remove the metalic clang sound effect on their charged R2. Out of all the bugs, oversights and various other signs of rushing in this DLC it probably is one of if not tthe most trivial ones, but it's still funny to me

                                                              • This is okay-ish in colosseums but trash in invasions. Wish the skill was a grab instead. But it is a guaranteed madness proc which is cute I guess

                                                                • Anonymous

This thing is SO fun to use in PvP. If you land the Ash it's almost always procs madness, and I'm an RL 200 player where people have plenty of extra Focus. And then while they do the scream animation, do a charged heavy for INSANE damage. That damage boost from madness is crazy good and fist charged attacks hit HARD. Just keep in mind this is mostly a strength weapon, the other stats don't give nearly as much AR

                                                                  • Anonymous

After running tests, I’ve found that the Madding Hand gives a buff of 7.5% when madness is triggered. Went from 946 AP to 1017 AP

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous
