Attempts invasion of other player's world
|
Bloody Finger is a Multiplayer Item in Elden Ring. Multiplayer Items allow players to interact with each other in various ways, including leaving messages for other players to read, co-operative gameplay and competitve gameplay like PVP.
Item for online play.
(Can also be used from the Multiplayer menu.)
Attempts an invasion of another player's world.
If successful, you will arrive as an invader (Bloody Finger) with the objective of defeating the Host of Fingers of that world.
Glistening blood has been siphoned into the nail of this finger. Its sickly pale skin feels nothing now, but the nail still aches with sweetest pain.
Bloody Finger Location in Elden Ring
Where to find Bloody Finger:
- Travel to Rose Church after defeating any shardbearer and talking to Enia in the Roundtable Hold for the first time.
- Speak with White Mask Varré in front of the church.
- White Mask Varré will give you five Festering Bloody Fingers and ask you to invade other worlds.
- There are multiple ways to complete this step;
- If offline, invade Magnus The Beast Claw located in Writheblood Ruins least 3 times, simply killing him works too.
- If online, invade at least 3 times. You do not need to successfully defeat the host; simply leaving with the Finger Severer is enough.
- Return to the Rose Church. Varré will give you the Lord of Blood's Favor and instruct you to soak the cloth with a maiden's blood.
- There are multiple ways to complete this step;
- Option #1 - Chapel of Anticipation
- Travel Northwest to The Four Belfries.
- The highest belfry will have a Imbued Sword Key in a chest.
- The second highest belfry will transport you to the Precipice of Anticipation.
- After defeating the Grafted Scion, travel further to the Chapel of Anticipation. There, you will find the corpse of a maiden.
- Interact with her corpse to soak the Lord of Blood's Favor in her blood.
- Option #2 - Church of Inhibition
- Travel Northeast, shy of the Grand Lift, to the Church of Inhibition.
- In the Church of Inhibition will be a dead maiden.
- Interact with her corpse to soak the Lord of Blood's Favor in her blood.
- Option #3 - Killing a Maiden
- Find and kill Hyetta.
- Soak the Lord of Blood's Favor in her blood.
- Option #1 - Chapel of Anticipation
- Return to the Rose Church and speak with Varré.
- Hand over the Lord of Blood’s Favor.
- Video Location
Upon completion of the questline, Varré will grant you the Bloody Finger.
Elden Ring Bloody Finger Guide
- You can attempt to invade another player's world.
- If you successfully invade, invasion multiplayer will begin, with you as a Bloody Finger.
(Your goal will be to defeat the Host of Fingers).
Killing the Host of Fingers will grant the invader a Rune Arc and a Furlcalling Finger Remedy. - During invasion multiplayer, you are provided three Phantom Bloody Fingers. Using these will spawn you at another location in the same session.
- Doing the quest and consequently receiving this item makes your eyes slightly redder. This effect can be disabled in the mirror in Fia's room at the Roundtable Hold.
- The maximum number of invaders is 1 unless the host is using the Taunter's Tongue.
- By default, invasions can only occur once the host has summoned a cooperator. Solo invasions cannot happen unless the host has used the Taunter's Tongue.

I want the feeling in my finder back. It's been asleep for a while.

Top 5 most used invader weapons/tools by a mile: (On PS)
Stormhawk Axe.
Stormcaller Ash of War.
Dragon Halberd.
Golem Arrows+Rain of Arrows.
Rot Pots/Grease.
If one or multiple of these are not seen immediately, they WILL come out if an invader can't kill the host and/or phantoms at first contact. Seriously, these items are apparently loaded and ready to go on 90% of invaders. Plan accordingly. If you're an invader, find some originality. Everyone is tired of seeing the same nonsense used every damn fight. Literally comical how predictable it is, but boring nonetheless.

why do invaders even cry so much? invasions are in a good spot rn. The invader is on a disadvantage, which makes it much more rewarding and fun to actually win. If u want duels then go play duels. stop complaining about "ganking"

it's about tradition, and i will show that very tradition once again, in the shadow of the erdtree

say what you will about the covenants in this game but bloody finger lore goes hard af

If you want to blame someone for the sorry state of invasions blame yourselves the toxicity of invaders, twinking and constantly ruining other people's experiences of the games and being insufferable jerks while doing it has brought this down on you.
Fromsoft is a business and will cater to the audience that gives them the most money IE pve players and hosts cry about it.

One day From will fix downscaling. Until then I guess we're all just stuck fighting level 35 phantoms with 1.5k HP that do 600 damage per R1.

Failing to kill Magnus after 5 attempts will still move the quest forward. I, uh, failed intentionally to test this. Yup. That's what happened.

Been getting very low level invasions recently on level 20. Mostly I’ve had lots of fun even with the occasional gank. What’s surprising to me though is the amount of phantoms at this level with late af gear and weapons. Is everybody really dropping themselves the veterans set, moonlight great swords, and ROBs? I can tell you right now some of these twinks would struggle with two or more godrick soldiers the way they mash about. Is this really a thing?
- Anonymous
It's been 45 minutes and haven't found a single invasion at meta level. Is everything ok with the servers or is there really nobody playing?
- Anonymous
Lowly unkindled hosts of ganks, playing as tarnished... we never did, and never will, forget, or forgive, the bloody oceans of smoldering hate, of wretched repugnance you have spilled throughout the worlds with your actions. The utter filth you have stained the whole community with. You really thought 60 bucks would even come close to cleanse your blasphemous treachery? Suffer, bleed, drag yourselves through the barbs, screech in agonizing pain within the very hells you have created!

I actually have more fun in Elden Ring Invasions than in DS3.
- Anonymous
idk why they enabled friendly fire between invaders, its like they wanted invading to be as ball busting as physically possible

The recusant's finger looks like one of Rykard's. The festering bloody finger is covered in Omen horns.
This finger is your own, but turned pallid after accepting "noble blood". I don't imagine Mohg's blood would make your finger numb and silvery white, his blood is cursed, and would probably make your finger into a festering one. No, I believe the blood Varre gives you is Miquella's. And why that lets you invade other worlds is curious indeed.

The problem with invasions is that there can only be one invader and there can up to 3 players you have to fight against, 1 host and 2 summons. In Dark Souls 3, there were allowed to be up to 2 invaders in non-covenant areas, and up to 3 invaders in covenant areas regardless of how many summons the host had. In Elden Ring, a host may use the Taunter's Tongue to allow a second invader to invade, but they don't gain any benefit from doing so. It's purely to make their matchup harder and it doesn't allow them to summon a 3rd summon as the equivalent Dark Souls 3 item did.
So right off the bat you are at a disadvantage as an invader because you will be outnumbered as long as the host decides you will be. Now, the counter-argument would be that the enemy NPC's are your teammates essentially and that you should bait the host and their summons to them. This works sometimes, but sometimes it doesn't work. A lot of invasions turn into the "waiting game" where the host + 2 summons wait for you at a grace or cleared area while you try to bait them towards NPC's. If they don't budge, you can either fight a 1v3 and most likely lose or you can just use the finger severer and leave.
Overall, this simply decreases the amount of fun invading could be. The host should be allowed to fight up to 2 invaders if they have 2 summons themselves. A 2v3 is a much fairer fight than a 1v3.

Most do as intended then you get myself, LMSH and the lift guy who dedicate our time to being helpful to other players. Sense mobs ignore invaders you can just run around and activate all the shortcuts or just be weird with the host of fingers.
- Anonymous
Honestly I'd think I'd respect it more if they just removed invasions instead of stacking the odds against invaders 10 to 1 for no reason. The Fromsoft simps would defend the decision no matter what anyways or just blame it on anyone but Miyazaki if they were really mad about it.

They better have been saving all the cool covenants and shiz for dlc, i'm gonna cry if we get another reskin finger that changes your name

hosts I'm begging you PLEASE stop chasing invaders behind hordes and hordes of enemies, the boss door is right there!! please!!! - a slightly annoyed furled finger
- Anonymous
Invader limit needs to be equal to the number of furled fingers present, not just a max of 1 without the taunters tongue in use
- Anonymous
Taunters tongue active
Just for you cute invaders
Try it out, most people act fair if not ganked
Not all of course, we all know the souls community
- Anonymous
Miss the old invasion system. Getting ganked on top of no rewards in all actuality? What's the point now?
- Anonymous
I loved invading in DS3, I hate it in Elden Ring
You can enjoy it if you're meta with an optimized build. But if you want to have fun, do cosplays, try some weird and interesting weapon combos, you'll get killed in like 2-3 hits. There are about 10 viable PvP strategies for the casul player who'd just want to relax and have some fun without going full tryhard. And the arena is already dead on PC. Guess sweatlords hate fair fights.

i wish you got it from killing varre, but oh man, thank **** for wex dust.

You do NOT need having killed Godrick The Grafted to get Varre to spawn at Rose Church. You only need having killed your first demigod.
For example, I skipped all the bosses and most fights, grabbed both half seals to Dectus, going straight to Altus Plateau to trigger the festival to fight Radahn, I'll then need any one other of the demigods downed in order to reach Leyndell in order to proceed further, besides the point however.
- Anonymous
Be careful invading some hosts might get offended that your having fun and cry about it on Reddit
- Anonymous
No, Varré doesn't cut off your finger, he just puts some magic in it.
- Anonymous
Either I'm insane or the eye alteration effect for doing this questline was different a few months ago because I remember my character having pitch black eyes with red pupils, not this reddish hue we have now.
Can anyone else confirm?
- Anonymous
Nothing like using the finger, waiting to finally invade, wait longer for the load screen and after all that your stuck trying to get to a ruin farmer. Lame

In my playthrough Irina got killed. Any way to use her blood when she is already dead in order to get the bloody finger?

Why should I ever cut my own Finger when I can simply use the Recusant Finger?
Edited this page to remove mention of this item being involved with the “age of absolute” ending. It is not a real ending, and as per Garden of Eyes’ video on the subject, was just an alternate name for the Age of Order.
- Anonymous
wwaaaiiittt. so the finger i use all the time is for recusants? and they can hurt each other.. can 2 invader with this item been hurt by recusants or other invaders?
- Anonymous
I can get after i kill mohg. Because you know, Varre is part of it

still, the fact his quest is locked behind a paywall if you need an online subscription is plain asinine

I made a +3 RL 40 to invade stormveil, SPECIFICALLY to avoid carians and moonveils, but apparently they dont care if your invading ng+7 or not >:(
- Anonymous
Does anyone know if what "other" things besides level are things for invasions? Like does weapon level or picking up certain weapons push you into higher level ranges like in DSR or FS3?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
So I completely skipped stormveil castle in my low lvl pvp character because I wanted to be able to summon in that area and idk if its like past fromsoft games where when the boss dies co-op is turned off, I killed morgott and got a talisman pouch, then the bossfight was just missing from infront of stormveil. The bloody finger dude was there without me killing godrick so I guess if you really dont want to you can completely skip godrick, he doesnt move after godrick dies just after you get a great rune or two?

i thought the red eyes from doing varres quest would be glowing, similarly to the dragon or frenzy version, but they don't.
My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
- Anonymous
So there is no difference between this and recusant finger then? I just did a couple 9f invasions and the rewards were the same.
- Anonymous
"clinch your teeth or something" nicest thing anyone has every told me in these games.
- Anonymous
They made it way too hard to get. Unfortunate, I'm a vet at these games and I'm losing my patience now trying to soak this stupid cloth with no easy way to get to any of the locations
- Anonymous
How many souls do you get for a successful invasion? I know you get 1/4 of a bosses souls for co-op so I am assuming the same thing for pvp.

Buying Festering Bloody Fingers is not necessary to complete Varre's questline, as he gives you 5 of these when he asks you to invade players.

Am I the only person who invades to scout the area when i'm stuck since other enemies cant attack me? Thats how I find some stubborn graces in the game.

Do the 3 invasions part of the Tanith questline count for the 3 needed to get the bloody finger from Varre?

i killed varre right at the start for calling me maidenless ... woops

Is it possible to get this if I don't want to invade but do want the red eyes to overlay the dragon eyes? I specifically want the eyes from this, not standard red eyes. And will I have to use cheat engine if I killed Varre when he gave me the first 5 fingers?

Elden Ring was my last hope for a good PvP game... after finding out how invasions work, and playing through some, I now know it's over. No more good PvP games left.

Makes your eyes turn red if you get it from the maidenless dude.

Man invading in this game is awful. Who wants to 3v1 every time with people spamming moonveil and rot breath.

Killing Irina also works as an option for getting the Lord of Blood's Favor.

Does the multiplayer password affect this or not? For surprise invasions of your friends.

Phantom Bloody Finger is only available while in a Host world. You get 3. You use them as a last resort to get a “redo” or something like a “second round” against the same Host world you were just at. It’s like a respawn so you get essentially 3 tries if you are really having a hard time beating that particular Host + Phantoms
- Anonymous
If invading from Scenic Isle in Liurnia, there’s a good chance you’ll invade the world of an NPC named “threadhewn fool” who uses a flail, great shield, bow, and rapier with extreme skill. He dodges almost all projectiles and is proficient at guard counters. I know it’s an NPC because he does the same emote and drops a rainbow stone on your corpse when you die. I’ve tried beating him a few times now and it’s always the same spot, same tactics, same emote.

I can't use the bloody finger!! Do I have to get Live Gold or game pass?

You can also obtain invasion finger on table in Volcano Manor
- Anonymous
well i lost my dragon eyes( that i pretty much love) for this soo how do you make your eyes be more brighter?
I found another dead maiden to soak blood on in church of inhibition near frenzied flame village. It's in the northeast side of Liurnia.

You can also just pick it up in Mt. Gelmir in Volcano Manor (long room, where you pick up your assignments). You can reach the place without any fight on a brand new character, just get the Dectus medaillion and use the huge elevator in Liurnia of the Lakes.
- Anonymous
it seems you also have to talk to him at the first site of grace before doing any of this. had some trouble figuring out why he wasnt at the rose church

Yo this item also makes your eyes turn red kinda cool I guess. I still prefer the other finger that allows you to invade

What's the difference between this and the recusant finger?
Fromsoftware clearly does not want players invading anymore.
I've been playing since Dark Souls 1 so trust me when I say the Reds have never been at this much of a disadvantage. The Host has infinite summons plus blue phantoms on standby, you can get hit by mobs sometimes during their attacks, not to mention good squads can just whittle down your stamina with magic (which everyone seems to be using for some reason) and constant pressure until you're a sitting duck. Pair that with constant disconnect issues and it really seems like there's no point to invading other than trolling.
You aren't even rewarded with much if you kill the host. Just a Rune Arc and a pitiful number of Echos. You get more out of helping people kill bosses. Invasions are dead.
- Anonymous
I can confirm you do not need 1 successful invasion.
Got my ass handed to me each invasion and still got anointed

This finger is used to insert in the rectum of other players.

What are the invasion limits? I seem to be invading people way below my level.
I wish the search near and far could be set to only search legacy dungeons. Open world invasions can be fun but personally I only enjoy them with stealth ranged builds, everything else is too prone to getting stuck in the infinite gank chase loop.
