Why on earth would anyone use this over golden halberd?... Pretty much the same moveset but GH has better damage AND Golden Vow, if your doing STR + FTH just use the golden halberd.

      • Anonymous

It'd be cool with two improvements, some kind of unique skill using the destined death effect and a range longer than my forearm

        • Anonymous

Decent weapon. At least if you're not a virgin that needs every weapon to have a unique skill to be happy

          • Anonymous

All they have to do is copy paste the black flame tornado aow but give it the color of the attack the gargoyles use.

Probably the most disappointing weapons in the game are the gargoyle ones.

            • Anonymous

Look, anything black flame wouldn’t make sense on this, they’re disciples of Maliketh. The black flame is the godskins thing, a death flame aow would make sense though.

I really like the weapon’s design so it’s the weapon that I hope most gets buffed. All I want is for it to have a more unique ash, as other commenters have mentioned. I’d also like for Holy damage to become more useful but that isn’t only inherent to this weapon

                • Anonymous

fromsoft ran out of time designing these and called it good after making the black gargoyle greatsword weapon art

                  • Anonymous

At 50 fth and 30 str this only has 21 more damage than a sacred or flame art nightrider glaive, meanwhile the nightrider glaive has much more reach than this. Very sad when somber weapons get completely outclassed by their normal counterparts with their respective infusions. SMH.

The charged heavy lets it do the bread and butter 360 spin slash without the Art of War. This is really useful for clearing out mobs easily, especially hordes of skeletons. Golden Halberd only has an overhead slam for its charged heavy. If you've ever played Bloodborne, you'll know how reliable a 360 charged attack is compared to an overhead, especially when you are surrounded.

It's really disappointing how all black blade kindred weapons other than the greats word are just stick with basic ashes of war with no real unique qualities to them, like couldn't they have atleast have done something like give the Halberd a unique destined death buffed version of Spinning Slash? It really seems like these were just really hastily/lazily designed to the point that they couldn't even be bothered to do something as simple as that for every one of them other than the
                        greatsword.

                        • Anonymous

when the gargoyle uses it it has red fire slashes, and yet when we use it its completely ordinary. so disappointing

Who puts up this crap under the hints and tips "inferior to the Gargoyle Halberd in many ways"

I mean not ****, that's weapon differences for you, that can change it's ash of war, this has much better ar. What's funny is this has a decent use, best weapon to jumping power stance with golden halberd in a strength faith build. The gargoyle halberd is outclassed in it's use a a normal halberd by Nightrider Glaive.

Want some spinning slash with your spinning slash? There are 8 katanas and 4 of them have unique ashes + another if you count twinblade katana eleonora's which also gets the only unique skill out of all the twinblades, so 5/9, and give em bleed and unique animations that differ between 1& 2h lol.
There are 16 Halberds and 1 of them has a unique ash (rallying cry gotem) + another if you count colossal golem halberd which also has no unique ash so 1/17 and lets just reuse same animations between 1& 2h. I appreciate there are many but it means little when they are unfinished, I demand justice for Halberd!

They really should have given it a unique weapon art like the Gargoyles use, where it acts like a fast Stormcaller with only two swings followed by an overhead strike. Also give it the black flame effect like the Black Blade Kindred. That could have made it a very fun weapon to use. It just bugs me how Formsoftware gives even the weakest mob a crap ton of movesets but don't care to give many of the player weapons a single unique attacks or skills. Too many weapons with cool concepts end up being so mediocre.

Inferior to the regular Gargoyle Halberd in many ways. Spinning Slash as an AoW is OK in pvp and pve, but the real letdown is not being able to infuse. The default scaling is pretty bad with C/D/D, implying a quality/faith spread, which is waste of stat points if you're trying to hit damage softcaps as efficiently as possible.

Regular Gargoyle Halberd notably gets the rare S scaling when Heavy Infused, which in of itself already makes it superior to the Black Halberd version. Heavy Infusions also reach their damage softcaps much easier and sooner due to the nature of strength and two-handing. Furthermore you get the added benefit of being able to slap on much better AoWs like Phantom Slash, Sword Dance, Royal Knights Resolve, etc.

For even more salt on the wound, it also has split damage, and one of the split damage types is holy, which a vast majority of late game enemies and bosses have very high resistance to.

This feels like one of those weapons that suffered due to time constraints when they were trying to release the full game. It feels odd that the Black Gargoyle Greatsword is the only Black Gargoyle themed weapon with the unique Black Blade HP DoT effect on its Skill, but the rest of the Black Gargoyle weapons get boring standard AoWs as a holdover.

My educated guess is that all the Black Gargoyle weapons were supposed to have unique red-tinged modified AoWs, to mirror the skills the gargoyle bosses themselves use. But they ran out of time/money and we got standard AoWs instead.

For now, this weapon is not worth your time, especially when there are far superior choices within the Halberd weapon class. I hope this weapon gets at least a buff in scaling, maybe bump that Str scaling up to an A or B.

                                    • I find it kind of sad that this weapon just has the normal spinning slash. I have tested it just now, and for now, the only thing special it does is that it has a small black and red visual effect that it does on hit, which I'm pretty sure is just the game showing that you did the holy damage. The spinning slash is the normal skill, and the halberd itself does not allow you to switch the skill on it. The worst part is that they already have a different weapon that has the "spinning slash" skill that uses a different variation on it, with the dragon halberd, although they maybe should switch what the dragon halberd says it's skill is.

Half assed weapon yet again, so many are just missing unique weapon arts and are stuck with basic ones with nothing new.

There seems to be a little red flare on the ennemies you hit. Is that anything special or just for the lols ?

Is the moveset like BKG? Because the stats and the Ash don't justify it's use...on paper at least, I'll have to test it and reply to this comment.

Pro Tips for everyone trying to beat the boss legitimately (no disrespect to those who aren't).

Strike and roll over and over. You'll basically want to stay right at his feet. Take the time to learn the timing of his attacks. Roll towards him in most scenarios after his current attack chain then strike and roll out. Depending on your weapon in most cases you can get one or two hits in safely. Slow and steady wins the race on this one don't get greedy with attacks.

Halberd weapon is easier to dodge then sword imo. Sword has an annoying thrust and a flurry of attacks that's harder to dodge.

Avoid red tornado looking ability and the red fissure slam. Red tornado is a 3 chain. First two are around the boss the 3rd is at your feet within range. Red fissure is an easy dodge just watch the timing and roll left or right. There are really the only two abilities I found I couldn't consistently roll towards the boss under his feet.

Why does this thing have spinning slash? For an ultra late game boss weapon it has an entry level ash of war that you can't change? Seems odd, rather disappointing IMO. The sword has a cool move at least.

Huge disappointment on the weapon art. Kindred has this big flashy spinning halberd move, yet all we get is plain Soinning Slash? Come on

                                                        • Anonymous

Spent some time trying to lure him off the cliffs on either side of the sanctum. Neither seems to work. No gravity cheese for this guy :(

Also, fair warning if you are going to try to chip him down - he seems to disappear after some time and then respawn at his original location, even if you have been actively doing damage to him. Guess From really didn't want this guy to go down easy.

                                                            STR: C

Looks like compared the golden halberd, it does less physical damage, but more holy damage. It also has worse STR scaling
