This is somehow my favorite sword in the game, and i generally dont like Collossal greatswords. Amazing range and makes you feel like Genichiro from Sekiro with the mortal blade

      • Is this weapon supposed to be considered legendary? When I picked it up, it played the legendary pickup sound and showed it to be a legendary weapon. I'm confused, its not listed on the wiki as legendary and is also not required for the legendary armaments trophy... Weird

Queen's black flame ash consists of three separate hits; main drawback is that the first initial hit does significantly less damage than the following two and it does not combo; you may get lucky and roll catch but that implies the player your fighting against has a good connection or isn't spamming roll like a maniac.

Interesting design for the sword considering every possible interpretation of it's design makes sense to some part of the lore.

            - Caduceus (symbol of alchemy/mercury)
            - Rod of Aclepius (symbol of healing)
            - DNA Helix (representation of life on a weapon designed to take life)
            - Idea of Evil (or in this case vanquishes evil)
            - Coiled Sword (DS3 easter egg possibly)

I run a really weird build with this weapon, which is a quality faith build. Where I use this thing with the Beast incants and they pair incredibly well together, it’s a **** ton of fun.

Great weapon for the right builds, but the weapon art let me down a bit. Looking at those two slashes, my brain immediately went to the Mortal Draw skill from Sekiro, and I assumed the range on it must be pretty good! It’s a big fire slash, right? On actually using it, though, you have to be pretty close to get it to hit anything. Sometimes it feels like there’s an invisible wall 10 feet in front of me, protecting enemies just outside the reach of the blade. The damage is great, but getting it to hit requires careful positioning. I think it could use a range increase of 20%-ish.

They should've made this weapon for quality/fth builds since you have to invest in str and dex. Doesn't make sense that it's a dex weapon with high str requirements.

                  • The ash of war has a pretty great amount of hyper armor. At 61 poise, I seem to be able to tank a heavy hit from the omen’s in the Shunning Grounds that I would otherwise be staggered from. Very nice. Would recommend.

                      Here comes a question guys.

I tried out MANY weapons in the game to find which one gives the most reliable posture break and stagger, and Godslayer's greatsword outscaled everything else I tried by a complete landscape.

It can literally stagger anything that can be staggered, and even greatshield enemies can't make your hit recoil upon blocking, not even if you only 1 handing the weapon.

Is there any other weapon which can do the same thing with the same or faster attack speed, or only Godslayer can do this? Cause I did not find any alternative to it.

                      • Anonymous

People out here talking about how it's a good weapon but the real question is why a Sword with a prefix of greatsword is actually considered a colossal sword and not a greatsword.

                        • Anonymous

Not only is it faster than other colossal swords but the moveset is also unique for colossal swords. Usually the weapons with unique movesets attack a bit faster, like cross naginata and the guardian swordspear.

                          • Anonymous

It's a colossal weapon which deals blackflame damage, what does Fromsoft make it primarily scale with? Why dexterity, of course!

This thing's weapon art is SO EFFIN SLOW.
It's almost impossible to use in PvP, let alone in a 1v2 or 1v3 situation.

The damage doesn't even make up for it. Whereas things like the Moonveil can easily oneshot, this thing requires at least two or three hits from the art to connect for a proper kill unless your enemy has like 10 Vigor or negative defense.

IMO, the thing needs a small buff to the speed of its weapon art... Or a base damage buff to make up for its weight and mixed requirements, such that it can slay players with two hits flat out... One hit if they've got 10 VIG or somesuch.

Because as-is, it's a cool weapon and a massive let-down for what you need to dump just to wield it in medium armor alongside an off-hand casting tool and a secondary right-hand swap-out dagger without fat-rolling.
Fromsoft needs to show this thing some love.

Some tips for using this sword:

The wind up on the ability, is about the same time as it takes for an invader to spawn in. Meaning, you can stand on them and greet them with an immediate thwack to the face and if they're not prepared (I.e. NPC's) the follow up swing is likely to kill them.

Stonebarb Cracked Tear is excellent with this weapon. As it already has decent poise break potential by being a colossal sword (Not as much as other colossals but still quite high) and with the Tear you can fairly easily stagger many bosses which gives enough time to use the ability to blow them up.

When mounted, use strong attacks. The attack speed is pretty much the same as light attacks because of the colossal sword one swing "Combo" for light attacks, but you do more stagger and can hit 2+ times (By hitting with the "Charging" portion of the strong attack and the strong attack itself). Also, it's hilarious to flip enemies like pancakes with the strong attack.

The ability, can actually hit 3 times. The initial pulling the sword back to wind up for the first swing can deal damage, about 50% that of the first swing itself. So get up close to targets to get that extra hit (Some targets are in fact staggered by burns and so that first bit of damage can actually stagger enemies long enough to land the swing. Things like Onyx Lord, some human enemies etc)

When riding Torrent, be mindful of ledges. As being a large sword, it is susceptible to the bug where running off an edge will not allow you to use Torrent's second jump. If you are planning to do any platforming (Such as if you're trying to grab the loot from the bottom of the Bestial Sanctum), swap to something else.

Some facts about the sword that make it kind of a neat thing to have for general Faith builds:

Dealing Fire damage makes it excellent against Handtulas because fire damage causes them to be set on fire stunning them and dealing massive damage (Sadly, using this doesn't make them burst into black fire...)

Being a colossal weapon, it doesn't give a hoot about heavy armoured enemies like Miners and will not bounce off them or deal reduced damage despite not being Strike damage. (Note; Some miners carry firebombs in their backpack. These will be ignited by the fire damage this does)

In the same vein, being a colossal weapon, it won't bounce off shields either, while having a good amount of guard break to boot.

Great moveset, speed, ash of war and damage output. A shame it looks like complete ass, what the hell are you using to cut? It doesn’t have an edge for gods’ sakes!

                                      • Anonymous

I'm using this in a modded playthrough that makes it buffable and makes Black Flame Blade last 80s instead of 8 and I must say... This thing looks absolutely SICK when buffed with BFB, as the black fire runs down through the helix blade.

I always did think that it had an odd design for a "Sword", but seeing it buffed with Black Flame Blade makes me understand that design. It's kind of like a reverse buffed sword, where the Black Flame is the "Sword" and it's encircled by the steel.

This sword one-shots Godricks solider, i think its to op. The sword is just an abolute beast. Its no fun useing a greatsword if i dont even have to fight. Plus that i hate Ranni very much

The damage on this thing's ability is absolutely obscene, if you can get a window to hit both slashes you will annihilate bosses

                                            • Anonymous

neat design, slow ability, quick attacks to make up for it, meh overall. All the colossal/greatswords would be more fun to use if they had better animations, as it is they redefine clunky. Many of the big hammers and axes somehow feel quicker

                                              • Anonymous

I really wanted to love this weapon. It's design, lore, and just overall feel makes it one of the coolest weapons in the game. But it feels lackluster compared to some of the bigger contenders for /best/ weapons. By no means is it a bad weapon. It's very balanced, especially since it can be double buffed with Flame Grant Me Strength. But if you're used to face rolling things like with Rivers of Blood, you'll feel sluggish when using this. Run this bad boy when you just want to enjoy the game and not meta pubstomp content like a Youtube clickbait title.

definitely my favorite weapon in this game so far. my character's at level 90 with base str and dex to use this sword, and 35 faith... absolutely eviscerates most enemies. One hit of the L2 does like 1000 damage. Feels really good and looks awesome. I highly recommend it for any faith build

                                                  • Anonymous

From a lore perspective, I believe this weapon was once wielded by the Soldier of Godrick. He had acquired the sword from the Dusk-Eyed Queen's corpse and used it to wage the great 1000 Year War against the gods. Feared by his power, but unable to defeat him, Maliketh and the other gods used the Elden Ring to strip the Soldier of Godrick of his powers and banish him to the cave which we find him. Legend has it, the Soldier was so powerful that this act alone is what caused the Elden Ring to shatter.

Even though he was one of the more difficult bosses, its lucky that we find him at a fraction of his power...I can't imagine what it was like to fight him at his full strength with this sword....

Weapo Art only scales with Weaponrating (AR). Can be enhanced by your usual talismans (alex shard, fire talisman)

                                                      • Anonymous

Very good weapon against aggressive melee builds, it's long, fast (fastest colossal sword) and has noticeable hyperarmor on all attacks. WA has insane poise, near oneshot damage and can be cancelled pretty early with last patch changes. Hard to land though if opponent isn't going for a trade.

                                                        • Anonymous

Does this weapon apply black flame on basic hits? Or is it just the ash of war?

Wondering since I'm thinking about making a black flame build

                                                          • Very solid weapon. Fastest swing among all colossal swords, can safely chain attack and stagger almost any mob in the game. For boss fight, just expect to land 1-2 weapon art each fight since the slow swings. But the damage is high. In NG+7, one full weapon art can finish maliketih second phase. Spamming the weapon art is not feasible and only get yourself hit.

The weapon art does good damage, if you can ever land it. Most of the times you either get staggered out of it even with decent poise, or not hit anything because of its deceptively short range.

You can see this when you open the chest and also when you pick it up - but it's not required for the trophy and it is also not mentioned anywhere that it is indeed a legendary weapon? Neither on the weapons inscription nor on the armor of the one Godskin (Godskin Apostle) who wields it mentions its rarity at all? Anyone know why this is?

So it already had the fastest lights amongst other colossal swords and it got even faster now. It's basically the same as greatswords. The speed difference is incredibly minor. Also they buffed casting time and made it possible to dodge-cancel the most heavy-hitting attack in the game that also burns. It got incredible hyper-armor and does incredible dmg. Very versatile and it's fun to use.

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

14/22/20 nets you 665 AR. These are the base requirements. Not bad damage at all. I like to get my Vigor to at least 40 before I start leveling damage stats beyond the minimums.

14/50/20 nets you 762 AR. This is a sweet spot for invasions around level 90. You invest 28 more levels than the minimum reqs, and you get 97 damage out of it, a 3.46x ROI.

The question is, where do the next 30 points go?

                                                                            14/80/20=827
                                                                            14/50/50=816
                                                                            44/50/20=844, 2.73x ROI

Weird, right? You see the D STR scaling and you think it won't be worth investing in, but lo and behold, it beats the other two stats here. As a reminder, this is two-handed damage. With proper vigor and a decent starting class, you should be around the 125 PvP meta now.

How about the next 30 points?

                                                                            44/80/20=909, 2.17x ROI
                                                                            44/50/50=898
                                                                            74/50/20=875

Now we're really maximizing that B DEX scaling. You can achieve this at the 150 PvP meta if you're okay with only 48 vigor.

Not everybody cares about PvP meta levels. These next 30 levels are for you PvE purists.

                                                                            53/99/20=940
                                                                            44/80/50=963, 1.8x ROI
                                                                            74/80/20=940

Finally, investing in faith is worth it! People see a C FTH scaling and they call it a FTH weapon, but we need to be RL180 for it to be worth the cost, AR-wise. However, there is an X-factor here: Incantations and other buffs. If you want to be a caster hybrid at these stats, the Frenzied Flame Seal gives you the best scaling at 295. If you like beast incantations, the Clawmark Seal is a close runner-up at 281 scaling. Both of these seals also gain more incantation scaling when 2-handed. For buffs, check out Flame Grant Me Strength, Golden Vow, the Fire Scorpion Talisman, Shard of Alexander, and the Flame-Shrouding Crystal Tear. This combination will maximize your faith investment.

TL;DR, this is a DEX weapon, but don't underestimate the STR scaling! Furthermore, don't overestimate the FTH scaling. Unless you want a high-level caster hybrid, it's okay to stay at 20 FTH.

                                                                            • Anonymous

Several people seem to have the misconception that black flame damage does not pass through any resistances, the damage over time applied by the weapon art and blackflame incants/skills does do flat damage but the non damage over time done by this weapon and other blackflame attacks is just regular fire damage with black particle effects. I tested this with a friend using the flamedrake talisman.

                                                                              • Anonymous

As a DEX/FTH weapon I would love to see the STR requirement lowered, maybe to 16 to put it in line with Golden Order Greatsword and Sacred Relic Sword?

                                                                                • Anonymous

Somebody please help me find the connection to ds3 here, I'm thinking sister friede? Godskins? Kinda wierd how ariandel and friede share a health bar right? Also the black flame sword? Is ds3 before or after

                                                                                  • Anonymous

This weapon is really handy for faith builds against the endgame bosses with all their BS 80% holy resist. I dual wield Sacred Relic and Golden Order greatswords in most cases, but when I get summoned for Maliketh, Radagon, etc I switch to this baby

                                                                                    • Anonymous

The skill was already really powerful for my dex faith build, hit really hard! The only problem is the black flame slash activates pretty slow. Now the skill gets buffed and hits quicker!

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Did todays patch also increase this weapons damage and attack speed?
for me it seems the same but i could be wrong

                                                                                        • Anonymous

Does anyone knows if today's patch affected its attack speed? I tested it but I can't tell lol, if it did it would attack faster than normal greatsword.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

The weapon art is really effective against bosses. I pretty much decimated both Fortissax and Placidusax with using pretty much nothing else. I've been trying to get this working in PvP, but the results are very mixed. The regular moveset is really slow and the damage is really lackluster.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

This is surprisingly the most fun weapon I've used and I just specced dex/faith. It even has a poke on crouch and dodge. The weapon art is *chef's kiss* and you can delay the second part quite a bit , so you can bait people.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

The only things I dont like about this weapon are it's appearance and that it's strength scaling doesn't increase. Otherwise, this is my favourite weapon in the game. I wish it did the % health damage that it's weapon arts does on it's regular attacks.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

I am building a dragon incantation and fire-focused build with a dragon communion seal. Is Godslayer a good complementary weapon? I have it in +6 and using it. Currently, I have 30 faith and 21 arcane. Just defeated Morgott, Grace Given.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

As with other colossal swords, you can proc the effect of the Godskin Swaddling Cloth with just three hits from this, despite the relatively fast moveset. An ordinary greatsword takes 5 hits to proc the effect.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Regular attacks cause black flame damage, to which there are no resistances.

But the true strength of this is the weapon art. #1 it covers the blade in black flame, which causes damage and stagger it it touches anything, including before you swing and after you swing. The real damage is done on the follow up (backhand swing) of the weapon art. *HINT- This is a FLAME, WEAPON SKILL, COMBO...

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

The weapon skill on this is quite slow but you gain a ton of hyper armour/poise during it, making it hard to get staggered out of. Even lots of bosses won't be able to interupt you.

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

Really fun weapon. Recommend picking it up if you're already building faith, I have it as an alternative to Blasphemous Blade. The weapon art does bonkers damage if you build a little for it, and has decent poise, but can be hard to get off in a fight. People don't expect the second swing in PVP and it's oneshot literally everybody I've hit with it. Overall though just enjoy having a really solid DEX colossal weapon with split damage (of course buff it with FGMS)

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

Comparing to other ultra great swords, this sword has a faster move set and a lower attack power. R1 attacks with this sword are usually not very effective against late game bosses which have high damage absorption.
The weapon skill on the other hand, is a lot more powerful than r1 spamming. Can deal thousands of damage with a single successive hit, absolutely destroy bosses or big mobs who don't dodge or move a lot (giant boi).

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

Since it uses the greatsword moveset (greatswords being parryable) does this retain the colossal weapon's 2-hand parry immunity or does this lose it?

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

Does this keep the increased attack speed compared to other colossal swords when you dual wield a second godslayer greatsword? I tried with a normal speed colossal and it was the usual slow colossal speed.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

This thing scales better with strength then you'd expect if you two-hand the weapon, this makes sense considering its the only dex collosal, cant really powerstance with anything unless someone trades you a second one

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

This weapon does the least poise damage among all colossal swords. But then again, that would make sense given how good it is in every other catagory.

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

The weapon art, slow as it is, hits insanely hard and does percentage health dmg to enemies, which is good against bosses. But since it counts as spell damage, you can equip a Warrior Jar/ Alexander Shard to make it hit even harder (dunno if it effects the DOT tho)

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Fantastic weapon. Faster than average swings, feel good moveset, unique scaling, inherent fire damage means it benefits from Flame, Grant my Strength even more than most. Damage on normal attacks is probably a bit low but the weapon art makes up for it, doing upwards of 3500 damage if you manage to land both halves. Has a lot of downtime though, so be careful. My personal favorite weapon; who doesn't love black fire?

Full charged Horseback swing burns, Kloomphs dragon heads(or any head of a beast), lifts humanoid sized enemies off the ground in agony.
                                                                                                                            Fast R1/RT swing speed.
Weapon art while slow, can break poise in a pinch and hits hard as hell.
The black flame DOT hits for about 5% of health over a very short span of time.
                                                                                                                            Rolling Poke also amazing.
If you use in PVP, you can one shot with the Weapon art, however you must either anticipate a roll towards you catch someone while they're hitstunned.
The startup of the WA can stun and will roll-catch, which allows for the first slash to stunlock then the follow up to secure the kill and satisfyingly send your opponent flying backwards covered in flame like some Anime Villain getting worked on, but I can assure you they will not get up saying "This is getting interesting", unless you're fighting gods at SL200.

                                                                                                                            -Slow WA, but big damage.
                                                                                                                            -Heavy.
-Bit of an annoying platforming run to get to the boss fight for it.
