Godslayer's Greatsword is a Colossal Sword in Elden Ring. The Godslayer's Greatsword scales primarily with Dexterity and Faith, with mediocre scaling in Strength, and is a good Weapon for inflicting fire-based damage.
Sacred sword of the Gloam-Eyed Queen who controlled the
Godskin Apostles before her defeat at the hands of Maliketh.
The black flames wielded by the apostles are channeled from this
sword.
Where to Find Godslayer's Greatsword in Elden Ring

Not only one of the sadly few weapons in this game with a unique moveset (usually this game gives weapons generic movesets and a unique ash of war and calls it a day), but as far as I know the ONLY weapon throughout Elden Ring and any Dark Souls game that has unique r1s. Pretty cool.
- Anonymous
This gets style points but nothing else, it really doesnt deserve the praise some people give it
sub-par damage for it's class, second lowest damage of all colossal swords.
very very very slow
limited move set.
it's only redeeming feature is the dot, but that can only be applied by the slowest AoW in the game, which has zero poise or hyper armour and you are knocked out of its cast if a leaf falls within a 5 mile radius
There are no good faith weapons, but here are the best of the bad options we have
faith/strength
Greatsword
slap a flame art or holy lions claw AoW on it you have higher physical damage, higher fire damage, better move set plus one of the very few AoW's that actually gives you poise, so it is uncommon to be interrupted and it does great damage.
faith/dexterity
Antspur rapier
Has scarlet rot build up plus allows for AoW's
As with above depending on where you are, what enemies you struggle with etc
Put flame art repeating thrust on it, you have a fast attacking weapon that does respectable physical and flame damage plus builds rot no problem.
Same ^ idea if you want/need holy, although in a game where 99% of all beings are resistant to holy I wouldnt recommend it, ever.
OR
If you are leaning into dex with faith as a substat slap a lightning AoW on it, you get physical and lightning damage plus the scarlet rot, which isnt necessary, but always helpful if it procs.
Those 2 weapons are measurably better tools to have at your disposal than a non-customizable, weak somber weapon whose strongest form of damage relies on landing an AoW with a 3 minute wind up anmation
- Anonymous
What would be a good split between strength dex and faith for this weapon at 250? Been having trouble deciding.
- Anonymous
It has a unique animation moveset as far as ive noticed
Tested with a bunch of other colossal great swords (that i have)
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Really wish they gave the regular hits the Dot since it still has a black flame effect but I guess that would just be too good against bosses.

Just did some testing. Having 5 points of investment into DEX rather than 5 points into faith on +6 weapon results in an almost exactly 1.8% damage boost to the first R1 swing.
On the weapon skill 5 points into DEX rather than 5 into FTH resulted in a 1.06% increase in damage on the first swing. So it is incorrect that weapon skill scales better with FTH.
Test done on limgrave giants without boosts and all stats well below 50. Don't know if FTH starts to see more benefit on high HP bosses on the weapon art.
- Anonymous
Called a greatsword, gets put into the colossal sword category. Nice
- Anonymous
Tempted to go dex/fth? Claw mark seal exists, and you’ll get similar damage to dex/fth with str/fth/dex on one handed plus way better spell damage.
- Anonymous
This should do strike damage, considering this weapon has no cutting edge...
- Anonymous
i finally use this to slay elden beast after a week of losing

This sword is the Omen killer. So fun to test in the sewers.

Ash of War grants good hyperarmor, with only 19 poise you can poise through heavy attacks.
- Anonymous
very underestimated in pvp, the quick light attacks throw off peoples timing

"The moveset of this weapon is faster than other Colossal Swords, but it deals overall less damage."
Yeh looked up frame date, Godslayer's R1 swings are 18,20,22 frames both one handed and two handed, meanwhile for other colossal swords it's 18,23,21 one handed and frames 17,22,23 frames two handed...
So first R1 is as fast as on one handed colossal sword or is slower then on two handed colossal sword.

I find it curious that this isn't a legendary armament. Seems like it would be.
- Anonymous
The first R1 is as fast as all the other colossals, with the second R1 being a little bit faster compared to that of other colossals and the third one even faster than the rest.
If you are using this weapon. Make sure you use it's full combo otherwise it's useless. Given that you are unlikely to use even two R1s in a row on a boss, I don't really see the use of this extremely niche weapon.

Malikeths blade two handed damage on 50/45 str faith: 933 ar
Royal greatsword two handed damage on 50/50 str int: 961 ar
Greatsword two handed on frost infusion on 50/50 str int: 870 ar with 153 frostbite
Lighting infused Zweihander on 50 dex with lightning slash deals: 810 ar
Heavy infused Greatsword on 80 strength deals: 875 ar (pure physical)
Lighting infused zweihander on 80 dex with lightning slash deals: 880 ar
Meanwhile Godslayer's Greatsword on 20 str, 50 dex, 60 faith deal: 843 ar of physical+fire damage with no black flame ddos effect on hit and one very hard hitting as of war...............

I've seen your kind, time and time again.
Every fleeing man must be caught. Every secret must be unearthed.
Such is the conceit of the self-proclaimed seeker of truth.
But in the end, you lack the stomach.

I just started using this thing and so far I love it, the move set is fun and the ash of war while difficult to use does a large amount of damage compared to anything I've seen. The stat allocation is hard to work around but doable. There are probably better options but this one is just fun.
- Anonymous
I feel every weapon that's connected to an incant/spell that has a weapon buff should be buffable but only with said spell, take this for example let us use blackflame blade
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I actually didn't know the upswing from the initial startup was a hit, and, learning that, I ended up beating the entire game with it. It's actually deceptively strong despite not carrying the hefty swings of its brethren.
- Anonymous
The only complaint I have for this sword is that it does not have the black flame buff after using the ash of war, in a similar manor to the blood flame buff being applied to mohgs spear
- Anonymous
Some say that this weapon having black flame dot effect on regular hits with 50 dex 50 faith or 60 dex 60 faith would be too op.... Meanwhile blood or cold infused Greatsword on 50 str 50 int/arcane shifts nervously (especially with frozen weapon aow) with same ar, better damage types and very high status build up on regular hits, and all other unique colossal sword do 100-150 more damage then this....

Lvl 80
Godslayer Greatsword +6
Fire damage tear in physik
golden vow
flame grant me strength
This absolutely murdered Starscourge Radahn. Never even made it out of phase 1. The sword is 10/10 for me.
- Anonymous
So what attributes affect the queens black flame ash of war on this weapon? Is it more faith or dex?
- Anonymous
This things unique R1s are neat. Other Colossal Swords have you slamming the sword firmly into the ground to stop it, but with this sword it's more like the weapon kind of bounces/skids along the ground and slows to a stop more naturally. It's much more fluid looking.

Initially it's kinda sad that this is a dex weapon, it's actually a bit of a blessing. With 30 faith you get access to all the good buffs and at 20str/30fth you get more out of the clawmarks seal still than other seals. Because the damaging beastial incantations are more for a ranged backup or aoe for swarm situations than a primary build, they compliment the sword since the dex will help them come out faster. The ash is EXTREMELY damaging and as good as any spell, so you don't need a damaging spell so that also doesn't matter.
It's pretty reasonable to get 20/40/30 on a 125 build if you stick to 40 vigor and don't overdo it with mnd and end and the sword would only scale further from there if you want to go in ng cycles. If you want an equivalent str/fth weapon the magma wyrm scalesword is excellent now too
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The scaling on this is unfortunate on faith builds but it isn’t to be overlooked.
Dexterity still boosts casting speed and its investment can boost incantation damage per second more than Faith at certain levels.
It’s speed still rivals the Blasphemous Blade and it has more reach than the former.
If you are going for new game plus, 80 Faith and 40-50 dexterity is a reasonable investment on a level 200 build.
This weapon then actually starts becoming on par with the Blasphemous Blade. It’s attack rating is outright higher.
Taker’s flame is still great but the debate of what’s better at that level starts to equalize.
The winged scythe makes a great sidearm.

This thing absolutely destroys Radagon. Killed him from full health in 3 R2s (all 3 hits connected). Godslayer indeed...

“Colossal weapon”
“God why would they make such a cool looking greatsword colossal-
“Faster move-set”
Aaaaand it’s my new favorite weapon, and that running r2 is just sexy.
- Anonymous
This weapon is absolutely GOATED. I got this up to +9 what feels like pretty early in my run because I took some detours that had me in high level areas pretty early, and it’s basically trivialized everything I’ve fought since. I’ve three shot bosses. I never liked big, slow weapons in Souls games before, especially since I always tend to do Dex/Faith builds, so finding a big sword that scales off those and looks cool plus does fire damage had my attention. This plus the Peeler plus the Black Blade is definitely my final loadout.
- Anonymous
I have the sword but the blackflame weapons kill won't work. I have the stat requirements, but when I try to use it, nothing happens. My character just slowly swings the sword. Is this a glitch? Does anyone else have this problem?
- Anonymous
Looks like the sword you put in campfires from the beginning of ds3
- Anonymous
I'm probably the only idiot in the lands between to think he can poise break someone using the ash of war in full veterans armour and get hit by the ash of war....wow
- Anonymous
The GOAT weapon... at +10 with 35/35/50 STR/DEX/FAI, the weapon art hits for 3500+ when all 3 hits land. Kills just about everything at Brace of Haligtree in 1 weapon art combo. Basically easy mode. Have barely used anything else since picking it up. Went back to Rennala and respec'd my build around it. Highly recommended!
- Anonymous
Someone's probably brought this up somewhere in the comments section but I'm too lazy to check: The very first swing of its AoW doesn't use FP and can be interrupted by a roll/backstep. Not sure how useful it'd be in a PvP setting, though I guess it'd be a useful way to mess with people thinking you're going to pull off the entire combo.
- Anonymous
A much better moveset than the other colossal swords have, but I'm not talking about its speed. The normal CS move set make me feel like my character has to use all their strenghth just to swing the dumb thing, but using this sword feels more like I'm using my strength to actually put considerable force behind it. In short: the cathartic feel of this weapons moveset makes using other colossal weapons feel lame.
- Anonymous
Does this weapon maintain its unique attack speed advantage now that colossal sword normal attack speed has been buffed in general?
- Anonymous
Good damage, staggers and breaks stance decently while being faster than other ultra greatswords which i find important as i usually pick faster weapons but this seems to have a good mix of decent speed for the punch and stagger it packs with a good range overall making it great for anything that doesnt resist fire damage too much
The weapon art requires a pretty big opening to pull off without getting hit but if you can time it right packs a wallop
Got this fairly early (around lvl 50) and with only the minimum stats to use it and upgraded to +5 its close to 500 ar already so looking forward to seeing its full potential, more of a ng+ weapon probably but seems to be very strong for ng if you can get it early on
- Anonymous
Great weapon for a dex /fth
Build, swings faster than other colossal greatswords ,definitely my go to weapon, recently picked this up in my current play through ,haven’t put it down yet

Godslayer Greatsword looks like onyx blade. Onyx blade drops from Vilhem. So sir Vilhelm is the Gloam eyed Queen confirmed.
- Anonymous
GOD DAMNIT this looks really good for a build I was thinking of but it doesn't fit the aesthetic ;-;
- Anonymous
This weapon is absolutely nuts in the best possible way. Like insanely good.
I managed to stomp the godskin ******* with my level 70 dex/faith character and grabbed the weapon.
At first, I was just messing around with it, since I mainly use halberds, spears, hammers etc.
Then I decided to fight the duo at redmane castle and hooooooly ****. This sword MELTS bosses. At least where I am at right now.
The weapon art was hitting for roughly 2k, at +5 and moderate points in dex and faith. I think I am at 30 fth and 27 dex with this character right now.
So as you can see, not anywhere near max potential, and its making quick work of caelid enemies and bosses.
At SL70, you aren't really meant to be here, but the weapon equalizes everything here so it's much more easier.
Dragonbarrow is a different story, but the weapon is carrying everywhere else so far.
It has so much going for it. Its massive, and thus hard skin enemies get smacked around like nothing, its fire inherent meaning fire weak enemies get bodied. It's beautiful, it's fast, and most of all? It works extremely well with a dex/faith build.
Not my favorite weapon in the game by a country mile, but it earns top 5 status for me at least. Grab this thing and give it a shot!
- Anonymous
This is one of the game's cooler weapons because it competes well with others in its class despite high attribute requirements and relatively low split damage AR by occupying some niche territory. With its unique and slightly faster move set, good reach (third behind GUGS and zweihander), light weight (second behind zweihander) and immensely powerful weapon art that's slow to execute but grants hyper armor, it's a stylish option for anyone willing to invest in it. And because its physical damage scales best with dexterity and also has fire damage scaling with faith, a hybrid incantation build can use this very effectively even in one hand with a fast casting speed. It's the kind of weapon you base a whole build around.
- Anonymous
One comment saying this sword needs the black flame on normal hits. They don't know what they are talking about, I've been using this as my weapon of choice for a good while and its R1 and R2 or "normal hits" have always had the black flame. You can actually see it every time you land a hit.
- Anonymous
I wonder if we'll meet another Godskin enemy that wields this sword as a boss in an upcoming DLC, considering this weapon was made by/for the Godslayers.
- Anonymous
The funny part is that omen cleaver curved greatsword has the same ar with either flame art or sacred infusion on dex/faith build... This sword really needs either black flame effect on regular hit (it ain't a knife for it to melt anyone and Vyke's spear exists...), higher ar or be as light as an actual great sword (with it being essentially hollow in the middle)... The skill is cool don't get me wrong but some spice to it would be nice...

This sword takes the edge off some strong enemies at Farum Azula very nicely. Seeing it absolutely wreck the banished knights you start seeing around the dragon temple was validation that I hadn't wasted the ancient dragon somber stone to upgrade it to +10.
These are NOT the same as the banished knights in Stormveil or Caelid, at least one of them can use dragon communion incantations. But seeing the weapon art work so well really is a thing of beauty. A charged two handed R2 staggers them just long enough to allow you to trigger the weapon art before they can trade, and again before they can recover properly and hit back after the initial R2 the first low hit from the sword as it swings out before both slashes of the queen's black flame staggers them again before they can land a hit or move out of its range. I haven't needed to use the follow up attack once the first has been enough they don't seem able to cope with it, I haven't seen any of them try to use their shields to mitigate some of the damage.

Godslayer's Greatsword; not a Greatsword, a Colossal Sword.
Godslayer's Colossal Sword.
- Anonymous
The weapon made to kill gods is one of the best weapons for killing The Elden Beast, coincidence? Methinks not.
- Anonymous
I think its worth noting that the weapon art is very effective against npc invaders who will make no attempt to dodge your swings and will often try to interrupt you only to eat the entire attack which will either take most of their health off in one go or outright kill them, especially since it gives you considerable super armor once you start swinging making it hard for most Tarnished to knock you out of it.
- Anonymous
How fitting that the Godslayer Sword was the thing that carried me through the final boss.
- Anonymous
Might be unintentional but this sword is kind of like an counterpart to the Firelink UGS Soul of Cinder uses. "Blade" widens instead of shrinks and is hollow, but still has a cascading pattern and has a fire related skill/AoW. It sort of looks like a sheath for the Firelink UGS.
- Anonymous
People talk about stance breaking with flame of frenzy, but it would probably be easier to stance break with a random weapon using flame of redmanes and then switch to godslayer gs and use its weapon art.
- Anonymous
Haha evangelion reference. Cool weapon tho. Wish you could show it to Hewg so that he can finally have a god-killing weapon lmao.
- Anonymous
I wasn't too concerned about getting this because of the f**king platforming bollocks needed to get to the bottom of Caelid's divine tower to get it. If I'd known how awesome it is I would have made it a priority much sooner. It hits hard as a colossal sword but the weapon art has destroyed one difficult boss after another most recently the duo gargoyles at Siofra aqueduct. One comment says use it with bestial incantations another with frenzy but this sword and its weapon art is devastating with black flame ritual.
- Anonymous
Using this on a fire build and without the jar shard and just +6. Fire scorpion, 40 dex and 50 fai, golden vow, flame grant me, and howl of shapoopi let me deal almost 2,000 damage plus black flame damage with the AOW.
This thing is insane and still does 1,300 to magma wyrms. I love this weapon.
- Anonymous
Great for a dex/faith or quality faith build. This thing was designed to be wielded with a seal in the other hand. Pairs incredibly well with the bestial incantations
- Anonymous
These 2 incantations are great for creating windows to safely cast the weapon art: 1) Aspect of the Crucible: Horns for knocking down smaller enemies and humanoids; 2) The Flame of Frenzy for stance breaking larger enemies and bosses.
- Anonymous
Consider pairing this with the Frenzied Flame Seal. It provides the highest incantation scaling if you invest primarily in dex. The Flame of Frenzy is great for stance breaking bosses/ large enemies before going in for the 3 hit L2 combo. Frenzied Burst for sniping. Both also benefit from fire damage buffs.
PS: The stance damage from Flame of Frenzy doesn’t scale with anything, so even at low faith you can stance break most bosses with 2 charged casts.
- Anonymous
Malekith's Black Blade looks awesome and all but i still kinda prefer this thing since the moveset is much better on this one, the standard colossal sword r1s that the Black Blade uses feel wrong and kinda clumsy with how long Ive been using this sexy sword.
- Anonymous
Has the best light attacks of all the colossal swords, its almost as fast if not just as fast as a normal greatsword, while having longer reach and proly higher damage.
- Anonymous
Why is this thing so damn big? It ugly as **** near the top.
- Anonymous
Sure it deals less raw damage than other colossal swords, but the fact that its much faster combined with the massive damage the weapon art can deal, more than makes up for that imo.
- Anonymous
dex faith ultra greatsword? got my attention might try later...
- Anonymous
Its light attacks are much faster than the standard colossal sword ones while still having impressive reach and good stagger capabilities, does pretty nice damage, its weapon art is slow but has decent reach, is hard to interrupt since it gives you good super armor, and takes chunks out of most bosses/giant enemies while doing damage over time being black flame, the weapon art often does more damage than a riposte on a stance broken enemy, also benefits from flame grant me strength more than other most weapons being a fire weapon, overall just a really cool and fun weapon.
- Anonymous
I looked up this page just to say how cool this sword is. Very fast, incredibly long, with extremely large damage numbers, seriously. I rolled my eye a little when I saw it did split damage but on a second viewing, it turns out this thing's raw damage is on par with the Black or the Blasphemous Blade, while dealing fire on top. The weapon art also has a lot of poise on it, so unless you're fighting bosses you can quite literally facetank things, the first swing of the giant combo even stunlocks some mid-sized enemies like the Omen, just a radical weapon all around!
- Anonymous
The moveset is not functionally similar to a greatsword in any way. Might as well say the all colossal swords moveset is functionally similar which would be true as they do the dame swing pattern, so long as you're one handing. Whoever edits this page just doesn't want to admit the godslayer greatsword has it's own unique moveset. Just like lorettas Halbert, or the cross naginata spear, or many other weapons with unique movesets. Stop with the comparing to greatswords crap it's misleading and absolutely unnecessary and is obviously coming from someone new to the souls games.

this thing does a suprising amount of damage i got it and + 6ed it right before radahn and its weapon art did like a third of his health in one swing

Why is this colossal sword dexterity based? And why does this super important cult artifact scale more with Dexterity than Faith?

Arguably handles less like a colossal sword and more like a greatsword with the length and similar poise damage to a colossal sword

Love this beauty, speed of a greatsword with poise damage of a colossal and the weapon art does so much damage. perfect for dex/faith
- Anonymous
This would do well as a Collosal Sword option for Dex/Faith build
- Anonymous
I know this weapon catches some ****, but I absolutely love it. It's got a cool moveset for a colossal sword, I like the weapon art even if it's kinda slow, the DoT is nice, and I think it's one of the cooler looking weapons in the game. I like comining this with the talisman and armor that increases jump attacks and then just going hog wild with it.

I wish the WA wind up swing took half as much time.
He's the thing: it's an amazing colossal sword, and smacks the crap out of most smaller enemies.
So realistically, I never find myself needing to use the WA on regular guys, even groups.
That leaves using the WA for big boys and bosses. And on my build, yeah, it will absolutely decimate healthbars.
However--
I find I'm either getting staggered half the time, or trading a big hit and having to drink a flask after the fact.
Now, you could say "it's a chess game, you need to gitgud and find the right time to pull it off." And you're not wrong.
But I also have these other options that are just as good, and don't leave me with such inconsistent results.
Why risk this sword's WA when I can Giant Hunt yeet Omens with a greatsword? Or Blasphemous WA even big boys to the ground?
I'm just asking for a shortening of that opening flourish, so this thing can become more useful against what it was made for-- giant ****ers who hit like trucks

Borderline essential for faith builds lategame with how useless holy damage is on the last few bosses, and with it's insane damage compared to Blasphemous Blade and VWS which are IMO the other two best alternatives

The ash of war on this has very good hyper armor. I'm running around on a pseudo faith-quality build (34 str and dex with 50 faith) and power stancing the godslayer sword with maliketh's black blade just for fun. Even with 14 poise the ash of war super armors through most attacks. With fire buffs and shard of alexander's talisman it's a deadly trading tool and I haven't run into anyone with enough poise to tank the swings on the AOW. Alas, it's very slow and has a fixed speed so it mainly works as a gank spank on overly aggressive fingers. Unlocking and free aiming has some uses for the follow-up strike but don't expect this to do much other than send people who level vigor like it's DS3 into a loading screen.
Reminder that this isn't even black flame at its peak. It was weakened after maliketh defeated the gloam-eyed queen. Yet still, with a proper build, you can essentially 3 shot radagon because of how insane the damage on this ash is.
