The black flames wielded by the apostles are channeled from this
sword.

It really needs hyperarmor on the weapon skill back. It's stupid a throwing knife interrupts a colossal sword. I think FS simply forgot about it, not surprising really. They forget a lot of things, just like loretta's armor that has more ppise altered than with cape.
Am I crazy…I can’t get this thing to gain anything in Dex…I was going to respec to have more Dex, but atleast the first few levels past 22 don’t improve the attack power at all atleast according to the stat screen when respecing
- Anonymous
Does anyone know why it doesn't have the same hit stun like the other collosal swords? Is it because it's scales off of dex instead of strength? Or is it because of it's weight? If it's the latter reason, that wouldn't make much sense since the Zweihänder is lighter than the GSG and it's AR is less than it as well as far as I can tell.

Fun fact: you have just enough time to complete your taxes before the weapon art actually comes out.
I really wish the AoW was quicker. Yes, it does a ton of damage if you get both swings in, but it's nearly impossible as most large enemies/bosses have moved out of the way or hit you before you can....still, I adore this weapon, it was a great investment for my Str/Dex/Faith build!

It would be my favorite weapon if I could actually land the ash of war more than once in a full moon. Like 3 seconds before hitting and no hyperarmor...
- Anonymous
Is the poise thing on the AoW only affected in pvp, or did they break it in pve too?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Man my godslayer build is ruined after the patch, AOW couldn’t poise through a wet fart. From please fix in next patch
They done took away my hyper armor. The AoW was hard to land before but now it’s just imposisble. Great job as always, From
- Anonymous
Saw a vilhelm cosplayer who had this in pvp and beated him with a two handed shield
- Anonymous
patch nerf aside, how is **** like the rectangle elmo sword or the snake hammer nobody uses considered legendary but this isn't?
- Anonymous
Beware, the 1.10 patch made it so that the Ash of War has no poise (since it doesn't have hyper armor) making it one of the slowest attacks without hyper armor (in other words one of the hardest attacks to land). It doesn't matter how much armor poise you stack since now passive poise doesn't exist, they need to change this Ash of war's hyper armor ASAP.
- Anonymous
You used to be able to hyperarmor through ultra greatswords and colossal weapons with the ash of war and now as of 1.10 you get hit out of it by anything bigger than a pencil
- Anonymous
Love the sword the ash of war is fine but not for all situations but great for killin bigg bosses.
- Anonymous
Patch 1.10 seemed to nerf this weapons ash of war into the ground I can't activate it without getting interrupted against Many weapon types and with different timings as well if someone with more knowledge can confirm it would be appreciated.

So just to ask, does the AoW scale better with 80 Dex or 80 Faith. I know bot is ideal but I’m just building up to it
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
As the name implies, this is really good against the main bosses, specially if its one that doesn't move all over the arena. I was struggling really hard against Mohg but this thing basically canceled his nihil. The WA first attack is weak and will trigger aggro on you, so you may want to intentionally miss with it, the other two are the real damage dealers so you need to be well positioned to use it, a tanky summon like dung eater helps.

As of current patch this swords has several unique (and not) to it true combos: (both one handed and two handed) crouch attack into manualy aimed down regular attack, one handed crouch attack into offhand knife or catch flame, one handed regular running attack if hit at the end (left side) into offhand knife or manualy aimed down and slightly to the right regular attack (the second version can also work off regular running attack, buy depends on distance), crouch attack into manualy aimed down and slightly right first hit of L2 and delayed light jump attack into manualy aimed down and slightly right regular attack. Additionally to that fully charged black flame explosion into regular attack. Have fun with more fluid true combos both in pvp and in pve (in case of pve pure sword combos might see better use). Credit to WaZeus, Frosty and Gigasthiccas, who's true combo videos can be found on YouTube.

It kind of looks like it was designed to have the rune of death inside it, considering the shapes of both objects.

how is this a dex weapon. its a 17.5 weight colossal sword

I’m only using this cause the ability reminds me of isshin:/

"This weapon is not that great. I mean you could use it if you want, but it's not that cool." -the Gods, probably
- Anonymous
Why does this weapon have better Dex scaling than Str scaling
- Anonymous
Wish the weapon skill came out even just a little bit faster - you either have to roll out of it to avoid damage or face-tank until you can pull it off with no guarantee of it connecting.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
oddly works better as a quality weapon than a dex/fth one despite the lower scaling which makes me think, does fire damage scale off both faith and strength?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Super Oleg in Castle Sol gets staggered by the initial swing of the L2. Bait him into teleporting, and as soon as he shows up press L2 to start Queen's Black Flame and cancel his fire breath. The first real Black Flame swing then staggers him again, so you can immediately follow up with the 2nd. My stats are nowhere near optimized with 55 FTH and just 30-ish DEX, with FGMS on, just one use of the full L2 combo does 3300+ damage, killing him outright. Very helpful while farming his armor lol

The sword the gloam eyed queen Melina would want you to use to slay the Elden beast. Why not, she gave you a spirit steed?
- Anonymous
While the ash of war is awesome and it seems weird that it's dex weapon at least it gives dex something unique. Especially with everyone confusing arcane builds with dex builds.
Bit ironic most unique dex things make you tank through attacks and go into trades. (lightning slash, thundercloud form, queen's black flame, lightning slash)
The weapon and weapon art 10/10, felt more like strength/faith weapon but still a perfect weapon

Goes hard with flame infused dex weapons after the flame affinity buff

I really like challenging myself by bumrushing this early on into a run, even if I dont end up using it.

Them: Not worth it, considering the blah blah blah its not faster actually, blah blah blah blah blah blah, not that good cuz there are better blah blah blah blah
Me: ONE BRINGS SHADOW, ONE BRINGS LIGHT! TWO TONED ECHOES, TUMBLING THROUGH TIME [...]
On a serious note, just enjoy your favorite weapon. I was already a guy that kept min-maxing stuff, but in the long run, its just a way to kill the game's fun imho. Have a good day fellow tarnished.

The first R1 is as fast as all the other colossals, with the second R1 being a little bit faster compared to that of other colossals and the third one even faster than the rest.
If you are using this weapon. Make sure you use it's full combo otherwise it's useless. Given that you are unlikely to use even two R1s in a row on a boss, I don't really see the use of this extremely niche weapon.
Also the damage level(how much an enemy flinches when hit) of this weapon is the same as that of greatswords instead of colossals. If you are having trouble understanding what damage level is. Imagine hitting a regular mob with a dagger and then with a colossal sword. You'll notice they flinch way more when hit by a colossal sword.
Finally after some live testing, I found out that the L2 is not that bad but it's way too slow for what it is. Their are a lot of better options in terms of dps.( you could probably pull off two lion's claw in a raw with the regular Greatsword)
Check out the frame data on the frame data miner for a better understanding of what I mean.

Ash needs a speed buff. So slow its a troll move at this point.
- Anonymous
a decent candidate for the twinblade talisman since its R1 attacks are fast
- Anonymous
got this weapon a bit early, defeated that boss on a fluke run where i got super lucky. Incredible on my usual quality-faith build. Some of the most fun ive ever had. The ash of war is incredible and does insane damage, even stunning most things on the windup.... just a note that it's absolutely terrible in pvp tho LOL.
- Anonymous
i tried it, but wanted to use mainly black flame incantations which require lot of faith, it's either pump dex or dont use it
- Anonymous
After using the Godslayer GS for a good amount of time, I can say it's excellent.
The weapon is amazing visually and fun to use, R1/RB attacks is fast for a colossal sword, the AoW deals massive damage and give you hyper-armor during, and black flame !
The only bad side is that the AoW takes ages to prepare. Like around 2.5 seconds to land the first attack.
- Anonymous
it does black flame damage so its probably good against elden beast and radagon
- Anonymous
My only wish for this weapon is that at max faith it would burst with black flame from its core
- Anonymous
Man im sad i used this in my playthrough. Mostly due to the fact i used onyx blade in DS3 an helphen steeple in my first ER run. Still absolutely adore the sword and it’s ash of war along with the neat lore it gives.
- Anonymous
I know its the weakest colossal sword AR wise, but man it's by far my favourite weapon
- Anonymous
Reminder that this isn't even black flame at its peak. It was weakened after maliketh defeated the gloam-eyed queen. Yet still, with a proper build, you can essentially 3 shot radagon because of how insane the damage on this ash is.
- Anonymous
Not only one of the sadly few weapons in this game with a unique moveset (usually this game gives weapons generic movesets and a unique ash of war and calls it a day), but as far as I know the ONLY weapon throughout Elden Ring and any Dark Souls game that has unique r1s. Pretty cool.
- Anonymous
This gets style points but nothing else, it really doesnt deserve the praise some people give it
sub-par damage for it's class, second lowest damage of all colossal swords.
very very very slow
limited move set.
it's only redeeming feature is the dot, but that can only be applied by the slowest AoW in the game, which has zero poise or hyper armour and you are knocked out of its cast if a leaf falls within a 5 mile radius
There are no good faith weapons, but here are the best of the bad options we have
faith/strength
Greatsword
slap a flame art or holy lions claw AoW on it you have higher physical damage, higher fire damage, better move set plus one of the very few AoW's that actually gives you poise, so it is uncommon to be interrupted and it does great damage.
faith/dexterity
Antspur rapier
Has scarlet rot build up plus allows for AoW's
As with above depending on where you are, what enemies you struggle with etc
Put flame art repeating thrust on it, you have a fast attacking weapon that does respectable physical and flame damage plus builds rot no problem.
Same ^ idea if you want/need holy, although in a game where 99% of all beings are resistant to holy I wouldnt recommend it, ever.
OR
If you are leaning into dex with faith as a substat slap a lightning AoW on it, you get physical and lightning damage plus the scarlet rot, which isnt necessary, but always helpful if it procs.
Those 2 weapons are measurably better tools to have at your disposal than a non-customizable, weak somber weapon whose strongest form of damage relies on landing an AoW with a 3 minute wind up anmation

What would be a good split between strength dex and faith for this weapon at 250? Been having trouble deciding.
- Anonymous
It has a unique animation moveset as far as ive noticed
Tested with a bunch of other colossal great swords (that i have)

Really wish they gave the regular hits the Dot since it still has a black flame effect but I guess that would just be too good against bosses.

Just did some testing. Having 5 points of investment into DEX rather than 5 points into faith on +6 weapon results in an almost exactly 1.8% damage boost to the first R1 swing.
On the weapon skill 5 points into DEX rather than 5 into FTH resulted in a 1.06% increase in damage on the first swing. So it is incorrect that weapon skill scales better with FTH.
Test done on limgrave giants without boosts and all stats well below 50. Don't know if FTH starts to see more benefit on high HP bosses on the weapon art.
- Anonymous
Called a greatsword, gets put into the colossal sword category. Nice
- Anonymous
Tempted to go dex/fth? Claw mark seal exists, and you’ll get similar damage to dex/fth with str/fth/dex on one handed plus way better spell damage.
- Anonymous
This should do strike damage, considering this weapon has no cutting edge...

i finally use this to slay elden beast after a week of losing

Ash of War grants good hyperarmor, with only 19 poise you can poise through heavy attacks.

very underestimated in pvp, the quick light attacks throw off peoples timing

"The moveset of this weapon is faster than other Colossal Swords, but it deals overall less damage."
Yeh looked up frame date, Godslayer's R1 swings are 18,20,22 frames both one handed and two handed, meanwhile for other colossal swords it's 18,23,21 one handed and frames 17,22,23 frames two handed...
So first R1 is as fast as on one handed colossal sword or is slower then on two handed colossal sword.

Malikeths blade two handed damage on 50/45 str faith: 933 ar
Royal greatsword two handed damage on 50/50 str int: 961 ar
Greatsword two handed on frost infusion on 50/50 str int: 870 ar with 153 frostbite
Lighting infused Zweihander on 50 dex with lightning slash deals: 810 ar
Heavy infused Greatsword on 80 strength deals: 875 ar (pure physical)
Lighting infused zweihander on 80 dex with lightning slash deals: 880 ar
Meanwhile Godslayer's Greatsword on 20 str, 50 dex, 60 faith deal: 843 ar of physical+fire damage with no black flame ddos effect on hit and one very hard hitting as of war...............

I just started using this thing and so far I love it, the move set is fun and the ash of war while difficult to use does a large amount of damage compared to anything I've seen. The stat allocation is hard to work around but doable. There are probably better options but this one is just fun.

I feel every weapon that's connected to an incant/spell that has a weapon buff should be buffable but only with said spell, take this for example let us use blackflame blade

- Anonymous
I actually didn't know the upswing from the initial startup was a hit, and, learning that, I ended up beating the entire game with it. It's actually deceptively strong despite not carrying the hefty swings of its brethren.
- Anonymous
The only complaint I have for this sword is that it does not have the black flame buff after using the ash of war, in a similar manor to the blood flame buff being applied to mohgs spear
- Anonymous
Some say that this weapon having black flame dot effect on regular hits with 50 dex 50 faith or 60 dex 60 faith would be too op.... Meanwhile blood or cold infused Greatsword on 50 str 50 int/arcane shifts nervously (especially with frozen weapon aow) with same ar, better damage types and very high status build up on regular hits, and all other unique colossal sword do 100-150 more damage then this....

This absolutely murdered Starscourge Radahn. Never even made it out of phase 1. The sword is 10/10 for me.

So what attributes affect the queens black flame ash of war on this weapon? Is it more faith or dex?
- Anonymous
This things unique R1s are neat. Other Colossal Swords have you slamming the sword firmly into the ground to stop it, but with this sword it's more like the weapon kind of bounces/skids along the ground and slows to a stop more naturally. It's much more fluid looking.

Initially it's kinda sad that this is a dex weapon, it's actually a bit of a blessing. With 30 faith you get access to all the good buffs and at 20str/30fth you get more out of the clawmarks seal still than other seals. Because the damaging beastial incantations are more for a ranged backup or aoe for swarm situations than a primary build, they compliment the sword since the dex will help them come out faster. The ash is EXTREMELY damaging and as good as any spell, so you don't need a damaging spell so that also doesn't matter.
It's pretty reasonable to get 20/40/30 on a 125 build if you stick to 40 vigor and don't overdo it with mnd and end and the sword would only scale further from there if you want to go in ng cycles. If you want an equivalent str/fth weapon the magma wyrm scalesword is excellent now too
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The scaling on this is unfortunate on faith builds but it isn’t to be overlooked.
Dexterity still boosts casting speed and its investment can boost incantation damage per second more than Faith at certain levels.
It’s speed still rivals the Blasphemous Blade and it has more reach than the former.
If you are going for new game plus, 80 Faith and 40-50 dexterity is a reasonable investment on a level 200 build.
This weapon then actually starts becoming on par with the Blasphemous Blade. It’s attack rating is outright higher.
Taker’s flame is still great but the debate of what’s better at that level starts to equalize.
The winged scythe makes a great sidearm.

This thing absolutely destroys Radagon. Killed him from full health in 3 R2s (all 3 hits connected). Godslayer indeed...
This should be a legendary armament, change my mind
