Icerind Hatchet is an Axe in Elden Ring. The Icerind Hatchet scales primarily with Dexterity, with reduced scaling in Strength, and is a good Weapon for inflicting Frost against enemies both in single target and AoE scenarios.
A hatchet with a frost-coated blade. One of several gifts given by
Castle Sol in the distant north.
Known as "freezing fog," the blade is thought to be a dragon's
scale. Inflicts a powerful frost effect.

Seems like this axe should be for quality build does anyone know how much more dmg you get when leveling strength it shows only D so probably not much
- Anonymous
I dunno about the comments complaining but this thing is pretty good with how fast it swings. If you have a 1:3 str:dex ratio quality build it's deals nice pure physical damage.

"This youtuber said its op"
"I havent played since launch"
"What are patch notes?"
" i have 2 max level summons with me so it doesnt matter if its bad"
Reasons why people use this weapon.
- Anonymous
The problem with light axes is they have a very unbalanced moveset. The R1 is the only unique combo and is very fast.
If you just stand and spam the fast R1 it does very impressive DPS and status buildup compared to most weapons. But every other move is just as slow as a regular axe, with low damage.
- Anonymous
This thing melts dragons. Horseback or on foot, you just shred them down.

As someone who plays pvp and pve its only good in pvp but this weapon is ass pvp wise. Its scaling only makes it worse because its a ice weapon that scales only on dex and strength. Most damage your getting out of it with 50 dex is 400 something. But if it scalled off intelligence it would atleast be 500 or 600. So it wouldnt be as trash but it also doesnt do much vs poise as well making it garbage. Did i also mention it swings slow compared to daggers and other things that got BUFFED. Frost stomp in pvp is pretty ass not with it only doing a inch of damage vs alot of people in pvp when it explodes. This weapon has to be the worst in pvp compareable to the zamor sword being ass because of scaling not being in intelligence if both zamor and this weapon scalled off dex and intelligence not strength there dammage would be actually good and if they both got a speed buff
- Anonymous
They need to buff the status effects of weapons like this. 65 is basically useless when most enemies die before it even procs and bosses have ridiculously high resistances. Even more so on ng+. It at least needs some scaling. Similar issue with Frozen Needle and Antspur rapier.
- Anonymous
One of the better axes to use now because of the faster moveset
So...its faster that normal axes, huh? If i dualwield this with another Axe that isnt icerind hatchet, will it still be faster or will it be the normal Double Axe moveset?
- Anonymous
So uumm, i havn’t tested this as of earlier patches, but why does this thing swing MUCH FASTER than other axes?? I thought it combo’d with curved swords for a second there but it doesn’t.
- Anonymous
This weapon is still really good with the attack speed and frost buildup you guys are addicted to weapons with insane reach
- Anonymous
FromSoftware truly hates axes. Out of all the things that are overpowered in the game since release, they chose to nerf the only axe viable in PvP. Sadly I started playing late and never got to experience when this weapon was actually good. 50 dex, 25 strength, 50 arcane. Damage is trash at + 10. Range is little to no, you have to stand in the face of your opponent to hit. Frostbite doesn't proc, you literally have to stomp about 4 times or your enemy has to be a sitting duck and stand still for 5 seconds. Poisebreak is something unheard of.
In a meta where you can spam spells that literally 2shot people with no penalty, can clear a room of enemies with a button press or literally slap a weapon skill onto anything that makes you skip 2 meters in a second, the thing they really had to nerf was the decent axe.
- Anonymous
They could've easily given this axe C/C scaling, but actively chose to make it D/B, so it would be sub-par for str builds.
- Anonymous
Despite the treatment this weapon received, this is still a fantastic weapon due to it's damage bonuses and it's Frostbite effect. The weapon skill is still very useful against groups of enemies: You just can't stop bosses to death in the blink of an eye anymore. Offhand a torch to rapidly re-apply Frostbite, or leave Frostbite on there for the vulnerability debuff.
Still a great weapon, and one you can get very early on with minimal struggle.
- Anonymous
Basically every player who did not purchase game during initial release will literally have to play a HARDER version of the game because this weapon has been neutered to hell and back.

"Mom, I want an axe to cosplay as Kratos!"
"We already have that axe at home"

Why does nobody mention that it's added in a update.. I had to start all over and I wanted to get to where I was quick and seen this axe was good and I went where people said it was and it's not here on the game without any updates.

Is it known where to find this in version 1.00? It’s not in the same location and I’m unsure if it even exists at all. I need it for a challenge run.

Why are the only axes with innate auxiliary effects DEX weapons?

Can this weapon be enchanted with magic or boosted with consumables?

Glad it got nerfed. It looks so cool, I wanted to use it but it felt too cheap knowing how OP it was.
- Anonymous
yeah im sorry but as a weapon i just hate it. Upgraded to +5, yeah its fast and has a bit of stagger and good damage including the frost buildup but the HORRIBLE REACH oh my god the reach better on a fist weapon. I guess the WA is ok as well but really you have to spam twice it to get the proc and there are just better things to do
- Anonymous
Does the stomp damage increase with Dex? would be useful to know if a stomp build can just disregard all stats but vit end and mind
- Anonymous
I like this weapon, don’t even know why people are butthurt about it. The stomp is so telegraphed if you can’t dodge that in pvp you just suck, lol
Who cares what I do in pve? People will do far more egregious cheeses than using a weapon/weapon art. (Like rot breath on Radahn)

Can you get away with using base stats to weild then just leveling up vigor and stamina or is it worth leveling up dex too? Does it scale into the weapon art?
- Anonymous
Apart from its special (which is just as easily obtainable not far away as an ash) the hatchet is simply a good 1H weapon that scales well with dex and has innate frost.
FFS it's my only B-tier dex weapon at +9. It's just such an easy choice for 1H dex builds as my Lordsworn Sword +17 that carried me until now is more than 100 phys weaker and it feels like handing a tootpick to bosses. Not enough choices for dex builds imo. Playing without a guide I came across tons of str weapons but dex got a bit less love it seems.
TL;DR: Dex is the best stat for this weapon.
The weapon skill scales with 3 things: Weapon upgrade level, Weapon Ar, and all magic damage bonuses (In order of impact).
Because intelligence applies a flat buff to magic damage, it will slightly increase the damage of hoarfrost stomp. Raw AR increases have a much more significant impact on the skill's damage. This weapon has amazing dex scaling, so it is way more efficient to pump dex than invest in intelligence, unless you want to use spells.

been using it for a little bit and fell really cool with frost axe in my hand with ice stomps, dosent fell too op but its definetly fun and makes the game more eaiser (but not op easy)

lol, I’m just here laughing at both sides, the people on their high horse about using a certain weapon, and the people in a panic about whether or not this gets nerfed. It’s a video game, y’all. just enjoy it how you like!
- Anonymous
Hands down my favorite weapon. Not only is it absolutely beautiful to look at but the not split AR is amazing for a 1 handed weapon that attacks so fast. I dont believe broken applies its just really strong in alot of scenarios.
- Anonymous
so does the damage of the weapon art not scale with int on this one? so whats stronger, a weapon that scales with int using the ash of war, or this thing at 99 dex and strength?
- Anonymous
I've been using a greatsword build through this game found out about this thing so tried it on maliketh black blade, holy crap this thing is op melted each phase with mimic tear so badly, gonna keep doing my greatsword playthrough though
I found this axe on Friday and my buddy calls it the "cheater axe" because it's so powerful. Definitely one of my favorite weapons so far!
- Anonymous
Swing speed is a good 50% faster than other axes. That alone makes this weapon a standout. Love it!

Holy **** this weapon is so good, I had so much trouble against Melania but after getting my hand on this weapon, I beat her in one try.
Icerind Hachet +10 in my right hand and Lusat Glintstone Staff +10 in my left, Mimic Tear+10.
Hoarfrost stomp through Phase 1, in Phase 2 use Wondrous Physick Flask(Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear+Cerulan Hidden Tear) and burst her down with Comet Azur while she is in her Scarlet Rot Flower. Fun and easy.

if you're havong porblems with it's skill, it's an FPS problem. Low fps below 30 won't show.

this weapon = easy mode. had to stop using it cause it felt cheap... altho i did use it to kill margot lmfao

This axe is not OP by any means, it's just really good. For one, the ability is inconsistent and glitchy at least 25% of the time. Depending on who you're fighting, the ability will either carry you or do literally nothing. Like most weapons in the souls series, it can be really useful in some battles but absolutely garbage in others. MOST IMPORTANTLY, this weapon is actually fun to use and the frostbite is satisfying as hell. And although the ability is inconsistent, its wide, extensive cone shape is perfect for stopping enemies from running away or staggering them. This weapon has a lot of utility and I think you should try it if you're struggling with certain enemies.

Good weapon if you wanna play elden ring without actually playing it.
- Anonymous
Hi there. There are a couple of questions.
Does his "passive" attack deal damage from the weapon's upgrade? And, accordingly, do the stats also affect the damage from the passive attack of this weapon?
I would appreciate a detailed answer.
- Anonymous
This weapon is for people who don't want to actually get good at the game. Too overpowered. Enjoy it before it gets nerfed, you filthy casuals.
- Anonymous
Hoarfrost Stomp is going to get nerfed. No way will these kind of numbers persist. It makes the game a joke.
- Anonymous
Dex scaling...? Why dex scaling? There's Frozen Needle rapier for that.
- Anonymous
It's easy to get to, just take Fallen Ruins Of The Lake grace and walk slightly north-west and you'll see where you go in and open the chest, you can also kill the Teardrop Scarab and get Bloodflame blade spell on the way if you want to use it on another weapon.
- Anonymous
This weapon WILL get gutted. Both its scaling and weapon art.
The weapon boasts good dps by itself, low stat requirement, frostbite (which is VERY good in elden ring) and the most broken weapon art in the game.
Hoarfrost stomp consumes very low fp and stamina, inflicts frostbite in one or two casts, three for the resistant targets, and deals INSANE aoe dmg. Right now, I dish out more than 1500 per cast. Would be 2000-2500 if I cared about buffing myself and getting more int (because it scales with int apparently)
Combine it with the mimic tear ashes and you can melt *any* boss in the game in few seconds effortlessly.
Forget bleed, scarlet rot, poison. Forget sorceries. Forget incantations. This axe outperforms it all. You need the weapon +9-10, and you can roll your face through the game. The mimic will also spam like crazy the weapon art. I melted the final boss under 15s with this easy mode weapon.

It upgrades via somber smithing stones not regular smithing stones

I was stuck for a long time on what sort of build to do, what weapon to use, ect. This weapon was the solution for me. For other people stuck on what to play, I'll talk about what really clicks with this one.
I found I liked large weapons for horseback combat, because short ones simply miss. However, large weapons get no hyper armor, like in old games, have massive weight, and their damage per hit does not compensate fairly for what you pay for them - off of the horse, they are useless.
I used a lot of weapons that scale with strength for guard counters with a greatsheild for on foot combat - this works amazingly - but large weapon's guard counters are too slow. Weapons like the morning star or mace fix this problem, but present three others...
You miss dog enemies constantly, You miss constantly on horseback, and you can't deal with groups.
This weapon is incredibly versatile. It solved all my build problems, and this how:
I went with prisoner as my staring class, went for 14 strength for the turtle shield, (I'll talk about why) and the 16 dex required for this axe. Then I went 18 int for the meteor staff and meteor attack spell.
I'd recommend vitality to 30, then endurance to 20, then level int to 40 after that.
Against groups, I use the ice weapon art of this axe to obliterate them, or many types of bosses. The turtle shield sits on the back and provides stamina regen, so it's helpful even here. Leveling int will help increase the power of your weapon art.
On horseback, I cast meteor with the meteor staff. This has perfect range, so you can focus on dodging, and it will even guard break after a while, so you can dismount and get a crit with your axe. amazing for overworld bosses.
Dog enemies are 1-hit killed by the weapon art of this axe.
This axe swings faster than most other axes, and its regular attacks build up frost, which scales with your int.
Vs. bosses like Misbegotten leonine, you can use the turtle sheild's weapon art to cause a breif stagger, then smack them with a guard counter with ypour axe. This puts your stamina and mana to a diferent use - allowing you to switch to defensive on the fly.
I love this weapon and I hope this PVE build idea helps some people out. I think im finally going to stop restarting and actually finish the game with this. I hope it is never nerfed, I'd be really sad. I don't want this game to be like ds3, where everything that's ever fun or good gets nerfed, so that the best weapon in the game is the basic, boring longsword.
I love this game and this weapon!

Too OP, all you do is spam WA and deals 1-2k every second.
You can use this if you want, but it will ruin your game experience.
Anyone know what the Hoarfrost Stomp skill is doing for scaling? Int? the weapon's Str/Dex?
- Anonymous
The weapon damage is so-so, but man that weapon art is a frostbite shotgun
- Anonymous
As a person who uses this to destroy bosses...yeah sometimes it just doesn't proc. I have FP, enough stamina, and am distanced enough however the ice sometimes doesn't show. It could be a floor issue but calling this op is a tad bit of an exaggeration. I only chose to use this because ice is my favorite element.
- Anonymous
This weapon is busted! If you've been playing a melee build this ash of war gives you some magical punch, and honestly you can just spam the weapon art to victory against pretty much everything
- Anonymous
you cant upgrade this weapon with normal smith stones, you need somber

just a correction here: this weapon upgrades wit somber smithing stones, not regular

Forget about the negative comments on this axe. It's a "good" weapon.
Spammy R1 moveset.
Low stat requirements.
Frost buff and ash of war that is also "good".
It's true the ash of war could use a tiny buff. The nerf on it was justified, but I think they made the cooldown time just a little too long which becomes a problem against late game bosses who are super mobile.
Nontheless, many a newbie will pick this axe up early in the game and find it useful.
