Poleblade of the Bud is a Halberd in Elden Ring. It is a brand-new Halberd in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Poleblade of the Bud scales primarily with StrengthDexterity and Arcane and is the weapon wielded by Romina, Saint of the Bud. This causes scarlet rot buildup and has the skill called Romina's Purification which lets you do sweep attacks that have Scarlet Rot.

Weapon of Romina, Saint of the Bud.
A scarlet glaive with a dangling bud-like blade.
Attacks cause buildup of rot.
Once, in the crumbling, burning church, Romina held the bud in speechless silence.
That bud would become her blade.

Pairs well with Loretta's War Sickle in my opinion. Both are elegant weapons with wide sweeping movesets. Plus the combination of the red and blue skills look cool.

oh rot enjoyers in despair, I shall impart to you the eldritch knowledge:

As long as you meet the dex requirements, you can still use the flying ash of war with all of the butterfly exploding effects and rot application...just not the full damage. Why care about the damage? You want to fly and spread the rot! (then switch off to a real weapon after ;D )

just think of it as a pocket spell that lets you fly with hyper armor and spread rot butterflies strictly for rot application if you don't meet the full req's; what you wish the rotten butterflies spell was

Base scaling at standard +10: 320 phys
Up to 90% of the base value can be added by Arcane with softcaps at 60 and then 80. At 80, it's 90% of the potential. Thus adding 260 damage.
Full damage potential for 14 strength, 40 dex, and 80 arcane: 664 AP.
And yeah scarlet rot doesn't scale because. Reasons. Anyway it can do damage with arcane! Dexterity scaling is secondary.

Is this seriously the only weapon with arcane scaling in which the status build up is NOT boosted by leveling arcane?

            • Anonymous

The scarlet rot from this weapon (and its skill) should have been the stronger scarlet rot from incantations and hefty pot, not the weak one.

              • Anonymous

If there is one weapon in the game that I want to see buffed before updates patches conclude (if they haven't already), it's this. Please Fromsoft, better rot build up and maybe better damage. Rot greasing a Swordspear should not functionally outclass this.

                • Anonymous

This feels like a good main-hand weapon for an arcane focused spell caster. Off hand something like the Dragon Communion Seal or Albinauric Staff, and use the quick aggressive R1s any time something gets too close. Just a shame that there aren't more rot-spells to go with it.

                  • Anonymous

Very easy to use, can poke with a backstep, 2H R2 gives a savage double spin, AoW is great for offense and evasion. It does look a bit ridiculous that your character suddenly flies in a big circle, like a Scarlet Rot fairy - but it’s effective against mobs and to get away from impending attacks. As someone said, you still do the move without FP minus the scarlet rot butterfly effect; so it’s basically always available and does good damage.

This is silly easy to use. Glad I grabbed it (and the incantation, which is basically a one slot Scarlet Aeonia vs 3 slots for the latter).

                    • Anonymous

wield with off-hand antspur rapier with the poison flower blooms twice AoW to get a full rot-based moveset. The rot doesnt proc much outside of using the AoW but honestly rot is so strong that its fine to proc it slow

Personally think this is underrated, and after being summoned well over 1000 times since sote dropped not ONCE have I seen anyone else use it.

Moveset: no the R2 is not ideal… but the R1’s are the best of halberds, the guardian swordspear chain swoop

Ash of war: this is where it’s most underrated. Besides building lots of rot, it’s very effective without target lock… you can swoop in these graceful passes and circle your opponents making you very difficult to hit. Lastly without FP you still do the full attack animation, no changes except the rot buildup & extra damage. It’s basically infinite.

If you haven’t tried it give it a go, it’s really fun (just keep that target unlocked!)

If I had a penny for every weapon in Elden Ring that has high dex requirement coupled with poor dex scaling, I would be moderately wealthy

                          • Anonymous

This weapon is absolutely beautiful but I can’t seem to find and pinkish armor sets that match super good with it, at least with the current armors I have. Could anyone give a recommendation to match with either the handle or blade?

                            • Anonymous

The fact that this has less rot build up than a guardian Swordspear is criminal. It literally needs to be doubled, and the skill should proc it instantly. They fixed Rellana’s TB and Euporia so why don’t they fix this?

                              • Anonymous

yeah the horrible charged R2 is holding it back. I simply cannot play this game without having charged R2s, and not being able to replace it with a AOW like giant hunt that does the same thing. it is simply a necessary part of a weapon

Love this weapon! Fits perfectly on my rotten goddess build (faith, arcane focus with minimal strength and dex). The flat physical damage for the weapon is great for when I deal with holy resistant foes and the rot is always nice! Holy rot healer look out!

Would love to create a Scarlet Rott Knight but all the Scarlett Rott weapons look buttugly and you cant get their skills into other weapons.
                                    The same here.
Would be cool to perform this attack with a proper sword or Halberd. But you cant, for some reason.

The main issue i have with Elden Ring. Some cool Ashes of War, some cool weapons, but most of them cant be customized/enchanted.
Wouldnt i be fun to use that Angel Wing attack while wearing a Caestus, basically going Superman at enemies?
                                    Sure it would.
Wouldnt i be fun to have Rabbaths Cannon with Through and Through or Arrow Rain?

Or simply create a fun and good looking viable Scarlet Rott weapon.
But you cant. The game is too regulated for the sake of the PvP so many hate.

                                    • Also I get now why this weapon is arcane scaling, of all things. Romina is pretty much an avatar of the outer god, who communed with it directly. Faith represents following a dogma or a belief, like with Erdtree or Scadutree or many other things. Arcane is about doing something occult yourself and dipping into communion with higher powers. Mohg did it, Sellen did it, bloodfiends did it - that is why their gear is Arc-flavoured. And Romina did just that, although unwillingly. And became a Saint under the influence of an outer god. As for why Rot doesn't scale, well duh, gameplay mechanics.

                                      • Anonymous

Been taking this into the arena lately and have some thoughts.

Overall it's not terrible, mostly because of the range and swordspear moveset. But the rot build up is a complete non factor, I have yet to proc rot on someone in a duel with this. The 4-6 hits it takes to kill most people just isn't enough, even with the true combo. The skill is also not great, free aiming make it kind of cool against hyper aggressive people but anyone who respects it can just run away and be fine. Frankly if you're stupid enough to get hit by this you should get rotted instantly.

Overall I will continue to use this weapon because of the look and vibes and that is what is most important to me, but I'm hoping FROM gives this the Euporia treatment dramatically increases the both the innate and AOW rot build up and preferably makes it the stronger version found on the incants to better differentiate it from the Antspur rapier.

                                        • I really love how this weapon looks: It's a pretty color, it has a pretty design and it inflicts my favorite status effect in the game, Scarlet Rot. It's a shame, then, that this weapon is in the same game as every other scarlet rot weapon: Scorpion Stinger, Rotten Crystal Sword, Rotten Crystal Spear and the Antspur rapier can all inflict the status faster, the latter of which can even inflict other status effects at the same time, the rotten duelist weapons have higher poise damage than this thing and can also inflict multiple other status effects simultaneously, the rotten staff has better range and buildup and the rotten crystal staff, underwhelming as it is, can at least cast spells.

Poleblade of the Bud is slow to inflict scarlet rot, has terrible damage outside of scarlet rot and has an underwhelming skill that's frustrating to aim. The story would be vastly different if the rot buildup scaled with arcane (yes, I know no other weapon does this, but no other rot weapon has arcane scaling natively), but it doesn't and thus this weapon is vastly outclassed by virtually every other method of inflicting scarlet rot. I was hoping to find a new rot weapon to love in the DLC, so it's disappointing that the prettiest one in the game performs this poorly.

In the event that you want to run this weapon- which, I wouldn't blame you, it's perhaps the single prettiest weapon in the game- I'd recommend running it alongside another weapon infused with The Poison Flower Blooms Twice ash of war, as that will let you detonate the rot you inflict on your enemies and use the poleblade again to inflict it. It's not my preferred way of making a scarlet rot build, there's still fun to be had there. If you're not doing that, though, once you inflict the rot, you're essentially left with a regular poleblade until the scarlet rot wears off, at which point whatever you're fighting will probably die before you inflict it a second time.

Still, again, it's pretty as hell and that's reason enough for some to use it, I just wish it were reason enough for me to use it.

                                          • Do not initiate r1 chain from r1, first r1 has long startup and no stagger. Running r1->r1 is the way, or go full ham and jump. There is a reason Romina spams jump attacks herself, lol

                                            • Anonymous

I'm following the AoW's example and leaping at enemies with this thing.

Claw Talisman, Two-Handed Sword Talisman, and/or Gravebird's Blackquill Armor buff the initial R2, which true combos into a few R1s. After which, you can backstep and hit again.

This naturally gets a quick poise break, but the trick is to NOT go for the critical. Just keep swinging away on with the two handed R1s to proc status.

Or, if you're a real rot fanatic, ram the helpless target with Scarlet Aeonia.

Why doesn't the rot buildup scale with arcane? feels like a massive violation of the rules of the game..

                                                • Anonymous

Its not bad as an off hand weapon. Pair it with a thrusting weapon in main hand and you have a lot of bases covered with the ability to apply rot. I find it best to get aq few hits in with this them go for a heavy rot pot or incantation to get the stronger rot build-up

                                                  • Anonymous

It's not... good, but it is usable, and, more importantly, far and away the single prettiest weapon in the game, in appearance, moveset and AoW. You won't be crushing your opponents in duels, but absolutely will in the fashion department. You decide whether that makes it worth using. And like... it's not bad, just mediocre. If they decide to make the rot scale, or at least improve the Arc scaling a fair bit maybe it'll be legitimately good though idk

                                                    • Anonymous

I guess using a consumable/spell/incantation that can incapacitated/distract enemies make this viable aswell

                                                      • Anonymous

yeah u get hyperarmor on the skill now but that doesnt change the fact that it takes like 7 seconds to do and deals 2000 damage to the underground omen WITH SHARD OF ALEXANDER. u could literally be using anything else, even 2-3 R1s from THIS SAME WEAPON UR USING to deal more damage, with no fp cost

                                                        • Anonymous

Still trash after update. Dragonlord Cragblade levels of hyper armor wouldnt be enough to change how awful the AoW is. It is strictly better to just put rot grease on any of the other halberds with this moveset (if that’s what you’re using it for lol)

                                                          • Anonymous

I'm not gonna say that status builds are everybody's favorite or anything, I'm just gonna point out:

NOTHING in the game actually has scaling scarlet rot [or at least, certainly no weapon]. Every other status effect has multiple scaling options, nothing for rot. And here we have an ultra-endgame remembrance weapon that arcane scales and, flavor wise, is based on being a 'pure' version of the scarlet rot rather than the crappy version affecting Caelid.

So... yeah, the rot on this thing absolutely should have scaled.

                                                            • Anonymous

                                                              619 AR at 14STR / 22DEX / 75ARC
seems very low compared to other weapons at similar stats.

Rivers of Blood has a B in Dex and D in Arcane but still has an higher AR with the exact same stat spread lol

                                                              • A disappointing reward for a very fun fight. This move set was always awful on the sword spear and war sickle and remains awful here. Unlike the other halberds, these three can't stagger anything with any poise with their R1s, even two-handed. You might expect the second or third R1 to stagger, but nope, enemies just ignore the R1s completely, so the speed of the R1s is useless if the enemy has poise. Seriously, try using this against a fire knight - it's a sad spectacle. Don't worry, though, it still uses as much stamina as the halberds that actually function as halberds (actually more)! Except for the weapon art, the rot buildup is pathetic - only 5 more than the rapier that can take an ash of war to simultaneously inflict bleed or poison while you quickstep or repeating thrust, etc. The weapon art is not completely terrible, but it's inconsistent - half of it misses half the time if the enemy moves at all.

                                                                • Anonymous

seems like rot buildup also increased on the AOE as well as some hyperarmour. i can rot the omens (stevens) at underground roadside in 2x AOWs now.

feels like a decent weapon now. not strong, not weak, just decent. would personally like a bit faster startup on the AOW.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Actually really good after the 1.13 DLC update, slow skills like these should always have hyper armor on it and since it has some mobilty on it you can trade with it quite safely against bosses. Worthy of being a remembrance weapon.

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

I thought it would be fun to use this along with the Deadly Poison Perfume Bottle and The Poison Flower Blooms Twice, but I basically never proc Poison or Rot in the DLC. And on the rare occasion that I do, it feels like a waste to remove it with TPFBT.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Sure the AoW isn't great because no hyper armor, but it's damage is really high. I'm at 62 arcane and it hits harder than Flowerstone Gavel and Bloody Helice. It has a good moveset too.

                                                                            • Anonymous

People are seriously underestimating the potential of this weapon. Remember that this has arcane scaling and can be BUFFED like the ripple crescent halberd. Sleep, poison, and bleed buffs should all scale with arcane on this weapon and it also has passive rot (don't mention rot doesn't scale with ARC i already know).

                                                                              • Anonymous

honestly they should either change its arc scaling to faith or make the rotten butterflies incantation require arc instead of faith

                                                                                • Anonymous

It looks cool and scales with Arcane so I want to use it on my Dragon Communion warrior character, but the scarlet rot doesn't fit with the theme of that so I can't use the weapon

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Would this weapon have even been that good if its rot buildup scaled with Arcane? This is the same DLC that gave us rot pots crafted with infinitely farmable materials that insta-rot (or nearly so) anything you hit with them.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

This weapon gets some hate but it's really not that bad. The weapon has the superior Guardian Swordspear moveset, and the weapon art has the hallmarks of a good WA: wide AOE, great tracking, high stance damage, etc. The weapon art does need hyperarmor and the rot buildup sucks (even though that is really more of a problem with the way rot works than the weapon, it still needs a buff) but overall it is by no means a bad weapon.

                                                                                      TL,DR:
                                                                                      weapon good

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

I feel like arc players expect every weapon to be broken 1 button masher or something.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

The move set is great, damage on a pure arc build isn’t bad, and the WA is so good once you know how to use it (unlocked+freeaimed) to dodge and attack enemies. Add an offhand seal with some pest threads, some hefty rot pots, and keep a backup weapon to use the poison flower blooms twice for a very mobile and unpredictable build. highly recommend, don’t listen to the hate :3

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Love this thing, pump arcane high af and profit, the R1 has a strangely high poise damage that tends to break stances very easy, the rot build-up literally doesn't matter, if you want something like that just use the antspur, my only complain is that the AoW could use some hyperarmor because you can get knocked out of it easily, but can't complain at all about anything else with how easy it break stances with the R1 chained attacks.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

just use a halberd with more AR, drawstring rot grease and equip a better ash of war (poison flower blooms twice have hude rot build up) and you're done, more AR, more rot build up and a better ash because this one is terrible. this weapon looks cool but is just too weak rn.

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Guys, stop focusing on the rot build up. This weapon arc scaling goes into its base damage. It’s literally one of the only arc weapons that doesn’t have to rely on Status build up. The rot more then anything is just an added bonus that could happen on some boss fight and what not. The biggest strength of this weapon is it’s ability to have high damage for arc builds on bosses or enemies that are immune to bleed/rot/poison. Weapon art should 100% either get a major damage buff or hyper armor.

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

Arcane scaling but no rot build up increase, zero hyperarmor on the ash of war on top of the pathetic damage even with Alexander shard... What tf were they smoking?

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

This will make it feel a lot better. The flying swipe is fun it’s kinda like the gravity drill skill once you get the hang of it.

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

It just sucks at everything it tries to do, and attempting to use it lands you flat on your face. The problems with the AoW would be bearable if the weapon dealt decent damage, but the scaling needs a buff too. Whether that's Arc to A or Dex to C, it just needs it.
You want an Arc/Dex weapon with a cool aesthetic and some mobility to it? Just use Morgott's Cursed Sword, you'll thank me later.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

I understand that it does have the better moveset but at the same time highest stat for it is B in arcane. Except rot doesnt scale with the arcane so you get no benefit.
The attacks are way too slow for this tiny amount of buildup. You could just use Antspur and rot enemies faster.
The AoW has no hyperarmor whatsoever. Misses half the time. In PvE you get knocked out of the air. In PvP everyone can punish you for it. Cool. I get it, you get mobility but little bit of hyperarmor would make this weapon pretty good.

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                                                          The sweeps are huge.

The WA doesn’t grant Poise because it grants mobility. So you can hit, dodge, and apply rot simultaneously.

If you want to trade with the WA (PvP) drink the Ironjar Aromatic. The immobility gets countered by the WA. You fly around with all the poise, resistance, and damage negation. You can sweep everyone while applying rot, and move to safety simultaneously.

Watch out for the WA’s stamina consumption, and lightning.
