Melee Users
Romina, Saint of the Bud, is a mid-sized boss with a body resembling a centipede, a scorpion, the wings of a butterfly, and a human. She wields a spear, centipede fangs, and a scorpion stinger, making her a unique foe. To defeat Romina, you'll need a balanced approach, mixing both offense and defense. When facing her as a melee character, focus not only on her central human body but also observe her centipede fangs and scorpion stinger, which act as her arms. These parts of her body can move independently, meaning she can launch multiple attacks simultaneously, such as swinging her spear while her scorpion stinger strikes from the opposite direction. Romina's attacks include heavy spear thrusts, sweeping stinger strikes, and biting fangs.
Use the openings created by her heavy attacks to your advantage. After she finishes a combo, quickly counterattack to take advantage of the brief windows of vulnerability. Her attacks, while powerful, have high recovery times, allowing you to dodge and immediately counter. When she begins a combo, dodge her attacks by rolling to the side or backward. Immediately after dodging, counter with heavy attacks to break her poise. Frequent use of jumping and heavy attacks is recommended as it can stagger her, leaving her open to further attacks.
Romina at first seems like you must wait and punish with a typical melee build. She has a glaring weakness of being weak to animations that shift the players hurtbox down to low profile common moves she performs, such as her double glowing spear lunge and swipe move. Perfect example I found was using Dryleaf arts, the Heavy attack naturally low profiles many of her spear swiping moves. During my run I found it more beneficial to be aggressive rather than defensive, staying on her inner right side up front will negate a lot of her attacks with a dodge as needed. I ran frost to add the slow to her animations which was a plus but not needed in fighting her. The low profiling and staying on the offensive to break stance to heal as needed or deal big damage was enough. During you have enough time to heal and use Ash of War: Divine Beast Frost Stomp for example without getting hit. Patience and aggressive play shines in this fight as long as you can consistent low profile which is the namesake of this strategy.

Romina, Saint of the Bud Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Triple Centipede Bite Swing | At mid range, Romina swings it's Centipede head thrice at you from left to right. | This attack can be evaded by rolling back thrice just before the centipede head swings. Additionally, rolling to the left, then the right and then towards her will dodge this effectively leaving you close by to punish |
Double Spear Swing | At close range, Romina's human body swings its spear downward and upward at you twice. | This attack is easily predictable because it glows before the attack is executed. Roll back twice to evade this attack. |
Scorpion Stinger Swing | At mid-range, Romina's scorpion stinger swings at you which deals heavy damage. | This attack is a bit difficult to evade but with quick observation, you can evade this attack by rolling to either right or left just before the swing executes. |
Flying Sting | At mid or long-range, Romina flies briefly and thrusts downward toward your character with its stinger. | This attack can be evaded with good timing of your roll. When you see Romina fly through the air, wait for its stinger to appear. once a shine appears on the stinger, immediately roll to either right or left. |
Cyclone Spear Slash | In close range, Romina will swing her spear downwards twice in a circular motion. | Roll to either left or right just before she starts spinning with her spear. |
Flying Spear Slash | Romina attacks you with her spear thrice while in the air. | This can be countered by rolling to either right or left. Each of the three slashes has her getting momentum from up in the air. Time your roll just as she's about to soar down on you. |
Butterfly Bombs | In some of her attacks, she sometimes leaves multiple butterflies that will explode after a few seconds. | After evading a certain attack from Romina, observe your surroundings quickly if she left a trail of pink butterflies after her attack. Immediately roll back until you're not surrounded by butterflies. |

Breath of fresh air in this DLC... attacks are relatively easy to dodge but still punishing if you mess up. I used a Pike with Divine Beast Frost Stomp, got 3-4 procs of frostbite and was able to keep nice spacing while hitting her. I was having trouble hitting her while locked on with a shorter weapon (I was already using Bolt of Gransax which has decent range, but I was still missing a ton).

Great boss one of my top5 in dlc but she misses half of her attacks if you are close to her

I don’t know what y’all are talking about with her. Every attack she throws hits and she combos you into oblivion. Been using frost, but she’s just shrugging it off. I’ll come to her later.

magic tips
Faith:
spells: flame cleanse me, black blade (pecent max hp damage and HP cut), pest thread spears (solid tracking and damage), and knights lightning spear (solid damage and follow up spears usually land if initial misses) are solid options
intelligence: stars of ruin (extremely high tracking, must for counter attacks), comet (she doesnt dodge spells intentionally so its better than night comet for this), shard spiral (large hitbox so the damage can exceed comet in some recoveries)

Pro tip: you can dodge most of her insect attacks by just jumping

I like her. It seems a DS1 boss: readable in a blind attempt, reactable; for once, you don’t have to repeat 20 times to learn every attack.

Resistant to fire yet i 5 hit her with the magma wyrm sword at 12 scadu

So some say she is the women kneeling in the DLC Story Trailer.
Weapon of Romina, Saint of the Bud.
A scarlet glaive with a dangling bud-like blade.
Attacks cause buildup of rot.
Once, in the crumbling, burning church, Romina held the bud in speechless silence.
That bud would become her blade.
really excited when we discover more about her history/story

She's a great boss and anyone who thinks otherwise is conflating difficulty with quality.

So what species is she - is she another member of the Hornsent or another race entirely?
- Anonymous
weird everyone says she's ez af but i struggle so hard even tho the hippo i killed before was a walk in the park. :(

people who think "easy=bad" don't know how to have fun and just like to be beaten into the ground 100x. if that's what you guys like go play the old ninja turtles game.
- Anonymous
reminds me a lot like quelaag, besides the half person half bug part the slashes she seem very similar too :) love to see callbacks to their older bosses even if not intentional
- Anonymous
probably needs 2x as much hp to be a remembrance boss this late into the dlc
- Anonymous
Way too much of a pushover, no wonder the fextra commenters like her lmao
- Anonymous
I wish there was an armor set or a transformation that looks like her. She looks cool and there aren’t much pink armor sets (if not any? i might be wrong.)

I wish there was an armor set or even a transformation that looks like her. Not a lot of pink armors (if not any at all? i might be wrong tho)

Thought I'd check out this boss for the first time before I went to bed. I figured I would just get instantly destroyed like all the other bosses I'd seen for the first time (because I'm lvl 77 lmao) so i didnt bother using any buffs or anything. I ended up dying when her health bar was at one pixel remaining. If only I had used pretty much any buff... Really cool boss. The design and the music are on point.
- Anonymous
Now this is a good boss. Good music, attacks aren't completely spastic. Beautiful design. A+
- Anonymous
Easiest boss of the expansion. She isnt even weak to fire but I killed her by hitting her with 6k Takers Flame Blasphemous Blade attacks.
I didnt use any summons

Romina is definitely the most "Dark Souls" boss out of the DLC. Her attacks are well-telegraphed, easy to follow, but punishing enough that you can't just rush right in. Her phase two isn't absolute insanity like some of the bosses, and overall it's an experience that I suspect a lot of Souls veterans will feel familiar and at home with.

Why the hell would you mention Scorpion River Catacombs when it's vertically impossible to reach the Ancient Ruins of Rauh from there?

Just hug her and she will miss 80% of her attacks while you go at her, no braincells required
Shame cuz shes actually pretty fair and fun to fight otherwise

when I got summoned for this fight (on two occasions) I did the Hey gesture to dryleaf Dane thinking it was a guy doing a cosplay build, turns out it's an NPC summon .......
- Anonymous
way to easy for a DLC boss, cake walked her first try solo. She only gets points for a pretty fight visually and having an aight theme.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I feel like people only like this boss because she was easy to beat lol
- Anonymous
this boss is so luck based. she either only does the really easy punishable moves, or she just spams the 5 hit combos giving you no time in between

"Patience and aggressive play shines in this fight as long as you can consistent low profile which is the namesake of this strategy."
who is writing these
- Anonymous
Did her on my first try, it felt so random because Gaius and Mesmer beat the **** out of me. I used Queeligns ash of war and just spammed her to death even tho she is resistent to fire? I just stayed close, she didn't deal a lot of dmg either. By far the easiest of the main bosses
- Anonymous
Dryleaf dane does nothing. Walks around the arena and will probably do max 3k dmg in this boss fight.
- Anonymous
in what world is she strong against fire lmao who's writing these infos
- Anonymous
I actually enjoyed this I want to fight her again but that'd be another ng+
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
is this boss supposed to be easy? literally 2 attempted her with a keen milady no summons.. her attacks are very readable i think
- Anonymous
Found her surprisingly easy but I did mainly fight her using adula's moonblade, I think she's just extremely weak to frost.
Makes me wonder - since frozen things generally have a harder time decaying, if things that are associated with rot are weak to frost as a rule. Malenia can infamously be frozen in one frost pot for example.
Kind of like how skeletons are weak to blunt, strong against piercing; armored enemies are weak to blunt and lightning; stone enemies are weak to blunt; squishy enemies like slugs are weak to piercing; animalistic enemies are weak to fire; these things generally tend to be the trend.
- Anonymous
Finally a boss where the hitboxes are ****ed up to my advantage.
I swear sometimes she just whiffs her attacks even if you're not dodging.

Absolutely loved this one, reminded me of Dancer of the Boreal Valley in a strange way. Amazing.

Romina really read Tokyo Ghoul and decided to cosplay Kaneki

only boss in dlc i could actively perceive exactly what she is going to do
- Anonymous
One of the bosses that’s actually easier without summoning the NPC or spirit ashes. A very enjoyable fight.
- Anonymous
Idk why but her attack rythm seems familiar. It felt like I was dodging her attacks with some ancient knowledge or something, maybe she telegraphs them too much? Fun fight but felt a bit too easy.
- Anonymous
Easily my favorite Boss from Shadow of the Erdtree. Main game it's gotta go to Placidusax but honestly they are neck an neck for first overall both in design and combat. I just had some much fun with both.

Solo Easier than with Dryleaf Dane.
Always cuddle.
Air Attack evade when the Pointy Stick glow.
She has alot of Openings after her combos burt with and NPC hjelf it becomes a mess.
I think solo is easy.
Careful of the Butterflies, they can Oneshot you.

Raptor talons with bloodflame blade absolutely eats her idk why it says shes strong against fire damage

Kinda cool to see another boss that's related to Scarlet Rot.
Given this is probably Romina's final form from Blooming, I wonder if Malenia would have been a giant moth or butterfly if she were to bloom again?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Stay close, she will mostly slash or use the butterfly spell, dodge and hit with fire/bleed damage, tested with magma blades and rivers of blood and both ashes melt her.
- Anonymous
She is not resistant to fire at all. I've taken out half of her health with 2 or 3 fully charged Giantsflame Take Thee.
- Anonymous
I cannot block or dodge that triple attack and also you cannot summon spirits for this boss. So many bosses have attacks that aim for your roll it's seriously pissing me off.
- Anonymous
ironic that the rot boss is the most fun and fair boss ive encountered so far on ng+7
- Anonymous
Why on earth is she strong against fire? I mean lore wise it makes no sense: scarler rot was cleansed with fire
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I kind of regret summoning for this boss, probably could’ve been as much fun as Dancing Lion. Rellana and the hippo absolutely deserved it though
- Anonymous
by far the easiest fight of the dlc so far, very cool though and pretty
- Anonymous
Her being so easy is counteracted by the fact she has the worst hitbox ever conceived
- Anonymous
Shitty boss but better than a lot of the other DLC bosses by a mile. Great feeling when I finally beat her!

It seems that everyone here fought a different boss to me, and that may be my skill level. But when ever I get her down into phase 2, all she does is either roll away or chain flying moves together like an ADHD bird on redbull, not giving me any time to hit her and causing the camera to spas out making dodging some of her moves difficult.

what's this? A boss that doesn't crazy 10 hit combos? Fromsoft is losing it.

I also had Dryleaf Dane as a co op summon outside of the boss door.

protip just switch your keen weapons to cold for this fight, procs frostbite in a few swings each time and you don't lose any dps

I never saw such a pink color in souls game.
