Smithscript Cirque is a Backhand Blade in Elden Ring introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Smithscript Cirque scales primarily with StrengthDexterityIntelligence, and Faith and is a good Weapon for players looking for a weapon that can be used both on melee combat and ranged combat.

  • Weapon Skill: Blind Spot
  • This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War, ones that add a buff to the weapon excluded.
  • Can't be enchanted by Magic nor boosted by Consumables
  • The Smithscript Cirque can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones.
  • Strong attacks throw the cirques as ranged projectiles for zero FP

    • Unlike other Smithscript weapons, the projectiles follow a curving trajectory when thrown.
      • Thrown attacks when standing or riding horseback curve to the left
      • Thrown attacks while running or jumping arc upwards instead
    • Damage dealt by thrown cirques is affected by effective range.
    • Arrow's Reach Talisman will not extend the range of thrown cirques but will reduce the damage falloff.
    • Thrown attacks have strong tracking, and rarely miss their target. This is especially useful when fighting on horseback.
  • Projectile damage is increased by the Smithing Talisman
  • This weapon has a unique guard counter animation which performs a backstep and then throws the weapon.

      A lot of people still think that split damage is the way to go on these. It's not for PvP. They scale best with DEX and although the weapon cannot be buffed with greases the physical buff pushes it further than split damage. The damage is just too low with elements and gets eaten by player defense, on a pure Faith build with all fire buffs I was hitting players for around 450 dmg. This is ****. With a DEX build, keen and standard physical buffs around 550 to 850.
      TLDR go keen.

          At meta level the best damage is provided by the lighting affinity, followed closely by magic and then sacred, their damage being really close between each other. This is while taking into consideration general player defenses.
          Also cold works well thanks to cold burst damage and debuff.

          Too bad(?) these cannot be buffed.

            This thing on cold scales better with int than dex (sure it has C on dex but more base dmg than magic with cold and B)
            So you can use this on your spell caster cuz it scales well to 80 int

              Throwing attack into Spinning Weapon will catch so many off guard it's like Barker bomb bait but for an ash of war that you could never land in any normal circumstance.

                love the fact that the jumping r2 can hit enemies twice if you do it right in their face since the cirques come back and hit them again

                • This is actually kinda fun, the same as the Golem Fist. You can either punish your opponents from applying max pressure face to face, or bait them coming closer to you with the throwing attacks. It's devastating on STR build. The Blind Spot can also close the gap with your target effectiveiy.

                    the jumping ranged R2 on this thing is the coolest spammable attack in the history of Souls games, makes you feel like Batman. This weapon is not as strong as many others but is my main weapon due to how cool the jumping R2 looks.

                          If you stack bleed and blindspot with them they're virtually impossible to punish. As all of these throw attacks have 0 frame end lag, meaning you can instantly blindspot to punish anyone who tries to punish you. Plus the full status buildup on the throws means they will inevitably chip you down since you can't dodge them forever.

                            the range on those throwing attacks are absolutely aweful. Right when the projectile was going to hit, it suddenly disappears way too fast.

                            • The second 2h R2 throws the blades vertically when charged. When they hit geometry and get stuck, the blades then instantly snap into a horizontal position and it's bothering me more than it should.

                                Most fun and versatile weapon I've ever used lol. Don't listen to those pvp nerds, try it out, it works in any build. When u do running attacks, u keep some momentum and that gives u much more mobility and a fast paced style of combat. Fun n balanced overall

                                  These are so cheap in PvP. You can just run away and do the thrown attacks whenever the opponent attacks and hit them mod animation. Poise or not. You don’t have to engage at all with these. Just run and throw. What trash.

                                        Found an interesting synergy messing around with these. Blood Blade AoW only takes your health once, but you can press L2 repeatedly to send more blood blades out for only FP. This also still gives you bleed proc. High arcane with Occult infusion is incredibly fun, and I think the animation is faster than charged R2

                                                could use a little more damage and throwing range. still feels like smithscript stuff is either bugged; like the golemn fists, ok, or just very mediocre.

                                                I don't think the ranged tax on their free throwing attacks is worth it, unless you really want to lose access to your heavies.

                                                  The R2 is pretty meh in cramped conditions but take advantage of guard counters and jump attacks and you might have one of the best weapons around just for that tracking. Also who thought allowing this to have a minor piercing/aoe on the projectile was a good idea? They deserve a promotion.

                                                    Backstep Heavy attacks do not work if the weapon is equipped in the offhand. This is probably a bug, considering that other weapons with the backstep heavy do work in the offhand.

                                                      I have to say off-handing a this with the SS spear makes for a very fun play. I made it cold with the spear having piercing fang and flame art. I’m having a fantastic time!

                                                        Word of advice: The throw needs breathing room due to the horizontal arc of the projectile as it boomerangs its way to and from your target. The projectile stops upon hitting any geometry.

                                                              This weapon is great on pve, it's not overpowered, looks good and feel freat to play with it the R2s are wonderful and unique I like this better than the other weapons of this class
                                                              On pvp though? You can spam r2 and run for ages until you win, or l2 for busted aow... That said probably need to be balanced in some way btw the moveset of this weapons is really good so if never used this one, try it

                                                                This thing has a really cool guard counter. The tracking is insane and sometimes it 180 to roll catch enemy by itself. It's a pretty good weapon.

                                                                  So, how on earth do you counter this in PVP with a melee build? All they do is spam running, jumping or charged R2 at you and you either have to dodoge and miss the ONLY attack opportunity because otherwise they are just running away, OR you have to face tank 500 damage and hope to be able to close the distance before the guy can spam roll. Some of these DLC items clearly weren't tested

                                                                    • These weapons are now absolutely perfect imo.
                                                                      The recent "nerf" put it into really great position - they damage is now good, but not OP. Their range and hitboxes got much more reliable.
                                                                      The best part about this weapon compared to other thrown weapons is that its paired. So while smithscript hammer became kinda "sniper rifle" of smithscript build with best range and amazing knockback effect, but terribly long animations and stamina costs, this is much more versatile and high dps close range variant due to being dual weapon. If you compare throws of this to throws of axe/dagger/spear it deals MUCH more damage, while also having better dps, moveset and one of the most broken ashes in game. And honestly with the damage drop offs of other weapons, effective range feels the same.
                                                                      So its not exactly ranged weapon - R2 range is about whips length. But its probably faster and it deals much better damage. If enemy charges you, you still have that high DPS R1 spam, or you can feint/jump back attack to deal with almost anything with ease.
                                                                      One huge upside - this weapon is absolutely goated on horseback. Charged R2 comes out very fast, has decent range so its really easy to hit (unlike other "fast short weapons") and deals truckload of damage, its damage is higher than dual wield charged R2! Making it really easy overland cleanup tool.
                                                                      The worst part of weapon? It deals absolutely no stance damage. Like really, there is 0 chance you stagger anything. Backhand blades are not the best for that anyway, but this is even worse - even charged R2 deals 8 stance damage (compared to 33 minimum of all other weapons). But I guess you did not really expect throwing blade to do that anyway.

                                                                      So overall if your build lacked something like frozen needle or wing of astel for 0 FP cost, reliable, high damage ranged option, this weapon is everything you need in that regard. And if you are str or faith build switching between smithscript hammer and this, will basically cover you on all fronts with long range high stagger weapon and high dps close range weapon. Screw all other smithscripts, they are really not worth it at all.

Put some bleed on this bad boy and people got no chance, literally. The higher the level, the better it gets, max level and its a nightmare for your enemies. Is it balanced? No, but who cares at this point with those new blink attack ashes, bleed was always busted and ignored dodging, why back-paddle now?

                                                                            Anyone complaining about this weapon is smoking too much sillybush, extremely good weapon overall. Amazing on horseback, good dmg but not overpowered in late game and early (I gave myself on start to try for whole entire playthrough) they do good dmg against bosses only problem is the lack of variety on ash of wars early on without different whetblades. Only thing I was barely doing dmg to was tree sentinel in beginning lol

I would recommend before, but now is just too specific-borderline bad since you can't buff or get good AR thorough elemental infusions anymore. For physical infused, Backhand blades are just much much better and can be buffed.

                                                                                        Huge: in patch 1.12.3 the throwing attack range of this weapon has been increased.
                                                                                        It makes sense, because the visual feedback had nothing to do with the actual range. Even when the visuals clearly indicated a clear hit on the target, no damage was registered in some cases, because the actual range was way shorter. I haven't tested the new patch yet, so I don't know if this addresses the disparity properly, but I'm not surprised they changed it.

                                                                                        The bad news for the weapon is, that they apparently have nerfed the damage in the same patch...

                                                                                          • At the same time most OP and most shitty weapon :D Int/fth Scaling, dual moveset make it absolute beast. Imagine dual curved sword, but with even better moveset, 200more AR and most broken ashes in game. And then add ranged attack, having better range than whips.. yes, thats this weapon.
                                                                                            BUT they deal absolutely no poise damage, like daggers amount of poise damage and histun. And those thrown attacks are incredibly unreliable, especially in tight spaces. Charged R2 doesnt even increase damage by much, so dont really bother.
                                                                                            Real star of the show is running R2 - you keep your forward momentum and it seems the range is highest this way. If you attack from mid range, your thrown blades will actually overshoot and go back like boomerangs, perfectly syncing with your R1 swings for really meaty burst damage combo.
                                                                                            Another cool trick is jumping backwards while locked on and throwing R2s. This way you can very effectively kite almost any enemy while spamming them with your bursty ranged attacks.

                                                                                            Definitely very fun weapon, but its damage should be toned down a little bit and its hitboxes improved.

                                                                                              Ignoring staves, it also has the third highest Int scaling when Magic infused. B(136)

                                                                                                    These are good when you want to deflect and use guard counter. The guard counter does heavy damage and has range as you throw it. This helps for bosses where they move out of range after a deflect, so you would usually miss with a normal sword, but this thing can still hit if the boss is not moving too far away.

                                                                                                            I can't speak for PVP, but from a PVE perspective, I'm not sure what people mean when they say the throw doesn't go far enough or isn't worth using. Retreating jump R2 has a very decent range (a little longer than a max range spear thrust) and has a very long active hitbox the entire duration which greatly confuses AI. For shielding enemies, or even enemies that approach as you jump and enter the "blindspot," the R2 Jump attack makes an arc and then comes back in on itself, meaning it just hits them from behind. If you're like me and have never done a major jump attack build (i avoid most heavy weapons as a personal preference) try it out with these things power stanced. Even my suboptimal character with 40 int and 29 dex with a cold infusion is hitting for 850 with each retreating r2.

                                                                                                            I guess the major downside might be "oh look another jump attack focused build" if you're one to follow the meta, but I'm loving the versatility and safety these give me. I spent hours trying to make the curve sword retreating attacks/strong attack cancels work but with enemy tracking and no iframes it felt pointless. These really feed into the "annoying retreating safe distance zoner" build I've tried to force since dark souls 2.

                                                                                                                          The AR scaling is insane, at 14str 40dex 80int 16fth with +24 magic infusion they have 833AR. As a reference point, my +25 magic infused backhand blade has 692AR. Its got higher AR than my unbuffed moonlight greatsword, rennalas twinblades, and every other weapon I can use barring the zweihander, great katana, and scholars armament keen clayman harpoon. Not that I want it, but I'd expect a nerf to the numbers soon.

                                                                                                                              The R1 spam is OP but the rest of this is fundamentally garbage in general play. The range of the throws is not only terrible, but incredibly buggy and inconsistent. Walls also block the throws. Small enemies won't even get hit 50% of the time. You have no charges R2 stance breaker, instead it's a charged throw which will almost certainly never hit anything. Only way to use the throws is to jump, but because of the crap range even that is iffy.

Blind spot is an excellent ash of war, R1 is super fast, R2 has slightly longer reach than whips. Damage is crazy. Overpowered as hell.

                                                                                                                                        No idea what 3 before is talking about, blind spot comes equipped as the ash of war item on backhand blades. Lots of dlc weapons come with ashes pre-installed to make them easier to get instead of adding more ash scarabs.
                                                                                                                                        Also these are insane. They have 100-150 more AR then they have any right to when using magic/cold/sacred/flame art because the innate int/faith scaling causes your int/faith to scale physical damage as well instead of just elemental like they normally do on infusions, giving smithscript weapons a huge advantage. These double throw for incredible damage, and while the throws have shorter range than most smithscripts they're still way farther than a regular weapon's heavy attack. The backhand blade ashes of swift slash and blind spot and both top tier, and backhand blades just have excellent dps.
                                                                                                                                        10/10, one of the best DLC weapons without a doubt.
