the fact that there hasn't been a new comment in over a month is a silent testament to this weapons unparalleled levels of shittiness
- Anonymous
Don't get me wrong, this can be a pretty effective weapon if you know how to use it right, but... how the heck does the skill on the GREATSWORD do more stance damage? You're telling me that a three and a half foot sword hits harder than a hammer the size of a mini-fridge? Make it make sense!
- Anonymous
The other Crucible Knight weapons are a Greatsword and a Great Spear; this should have been a Great Hammer. It also should have had a more unique skill instead of just a stronger version of Ordovis's Vortex that gets boosted by the Crucible sets. I'm sure its a fine weapon for what it is, but I can't help but feel like there was a lot of missed potential with this.

Landing a fully charged AoW on those fast curseblades while they twirl and hit nothing, flattening them, and breaking their stance is very very satisfying
- Anonymous
Does anyone know if the AOW is buffed by rotten wing sword insignia?

I'm sorry but giving this a slightly different vortex skill was a lame was a lame choice. Should've been the hoof stomp attack or something.
- Anonymous
I think the worst part about this weapon is that they made a whole new animation for exactly the same skill as Ordovis’s, but with more hyperarmor. You spin it horizontally above your head, instead of at an angle. Why? Why did they make a different animation for functionally the same thing, instead of making something new? I don't understand it. We don't even get Devonia’s centaur attack. :(

Crucible tree set + this = absolutely chad Robert Baratheon
- Anonymous
The spin should absolutely stun enemies. Imagine doing that, ur spinning a giant hammer before slamming it down. Hammer doesn't even exist during the spin? Kinda bs

990 AR at 91 str. If you ain't making much use of the vortex then it's pointless to level faith past the minimum requirements.
- Anonymous
Oh, look! It's Ordovis's weapon, but in a hammer fashion!
It even has the same weapon skill!
- Anonymous
(As of patch 1.13) Faith scaling of this weapon seems to be bugged? Despite having C scaling in faith and D scaling in dex, leveling dex increases AR of this weapon by a lot more than leveling faith by the same amount. It's almost double the amount so yeah that's pretty wierd.
- Anonymous
I believe this is not working the way fromsoft intends. Hammers do more stance damage than swords, this should be one of the top 3 weapons for stance damage but it’s overshadowed by a sword. Give it a patch or two more and I bet we see changes to the skill and stance damage
- Anonymous
If the spins of the hammer did damage it would make the charge time bearable. Unfortunately the range is lacking for a fully charged hit and competition for somber weapon skills is fierce.
- Anonymous
I havent tested it but wouldnt this be really good with the crucible set? 16% more damage AND the poise to trade?
- Anonymous
Dunno why this thing gets hate. I understand Ordovis's charges faster and does a mountain more stance damage, but with the Crucible Knight set? This thing's uncharged attack hits for as much damage as Ordovis's Vortex.
Tested Crucible Armaments on the Omens of Subterranean Shunning Grounds. Alex Shard, Godfrey Icon, and Crucible Knight Set. Stats were 54 STR, 18 DEX, 32 FTH. Both Silura's and Ordovis's did around 2.2K damage fully-charged. Uncharged, Devonia's did just under that at 2.1K. Fully charged? Devonia's did 3.5K.
There's nothing like catching an invader with a charged Aspect: Horns before going for the uncharged Devonia's Vortex while they're airborne. I doubt it's a true combo, but it's stupidly effective.
I don't mind the repeat skill tbh, but nothing else unique? The Prelate's Inferno Crozier's fling R2 would've been nice

I was stoked about this weapon at first, and its not bad, but the reach is kinda short and the AOW feels like it takes an eternity to charge.
- Anonymous
Hate this weapon all you want, nothing beats one-shotting overconfident gankers with a fully charged vortex. All the skill needs is more poise and 0.25-0.5 faster chargeup to be perfect!
- Anonymous
Missed opportunity to really make this a good colossal weapon IMO. Something comparable to Ledo's Hammer in Ringed City would have been nice. Which is you know, high damage and an actual good AoW.
- Anonymous
I think they made this skill before they buffed Ordovis' skill speed and didnt adjust this one. Probably it'll receive buff in the future

By Sigmar, it is the Ghal Maraz! Time to make a Karl Franz build and summon the Elector Counts!
- Anonymous
Another alternative AoW idea, could be the stomp and gold explosion crucible knights use as a phase change and it could either give you a body buff of some kind like Godfrey’s axe
- Anonymous
Wish the ash on this was a holy chargeable AoE around the caster. Almost like zamor ice storm. You slam the hammer down and it makes a gold tornado around you that makes a massive multi hit explosion :(
- Anonymous
Should be noted that the damage bonus from the Crucible sets apply to this weapon's AoW, unlike for the other crucible weapons.
- Anonymous
its a shame that ledo’s great hammer became another celebrity to fall from drugs, stay safe out there kids.
- Anonymous
I will forever be a colossal weapon hater. Shoul've been a great hammer.
- Anonymous
Is this a copper version of ludwigs hammer? If so sign me up and bonk me stupid!

Awesome weapon love the look of it, hard to find armor that goes with the gold hue it has other than the crucible armor. Any fashion suggestions?

With the description you’d expect it to do something similar to black steel great hammer. Unleash the torrent of life or something.
- Anonymous
Needs a buff, this is a bigger slower version of the Ordovis Greatsword.
The fact that is weighs double as much and does less stance damage and damage in general is bad.
Needs higher strength scaling to match its weight!!!
Still a decent weapon but Ordovis is better in every way

Reskinned Ordovis’s Vortex skill instead of, you know, the actual cool part of her moveset, the centaur crucible aspect.
- Anonymous
What if we got Devonia's Aspect of the Crucible: Panther/Ape/Centaur (idk what it's called) as an AoW instead?
- Anonymous
Makes zero sense to me how it’s ash of war does less stance damage than Ordovis Greatsword. Hopefully it gets updated to do more in the future.
- Anonymous
It should have Ledo's Great Hammer moveset. I'm tired of From forgetting the coolest movesets ever.
- Anonymous
Gets boosted by any Crucible armor for 4% damage per piece as tested by Youwy. Strange since that's not the case for Ordovis' Greatsword adn Siluria's Spear.
- Anonymous
Instead of a copy of ordovis' vortex, they could have given this weapon the earthshaker stomp all crucible knights like to do.
- Anonymous
Funfact: This wepon and it's original owner are named after the Devonian period, like the two other named crucible knights we know of: Ordovis and the Ordovician extinction, and Siluria and the Silurian period, which fits with their whole "primitive life" theme.
- Anonymous
As of the most current patch (1.12.3) the AOW has been shadow buffed and has gone from 2,5 sec uncharged to 2 sec uncharged and the charged version has gone from 4 sec to 3,5 sec. Very nice indeed.
- Anonymous
Phenomenal weapon to power stance with the Anvil Hammer as they share similar scalings. The AoW charges slowly which is fairly detrimental but in a power stanced setup that doesn’t matter as much and you can take advantage of the high damage

Surprisingly disapointing, especially for crucible related items. This hammer is a copy paste AOW from Ordovis Greatsword, an amazing weapon. The AOW is much slower for charging up, yet only does about 7% more damage with the same stats used for ordovis sword. The Holy damage on it is very subpar, meaning hitting flat resistances wont do much good. Ordovis greatsword AOW is quite tactical to place, this thing is terrifyingly worse, its nearly a full 3 seconds to charge de AOW, albeit with a slightly larger range, but it gets outperformed by ANYTHING like Lions claw, any new physical AOW, and many, many older weapons from base game.
I really feel line they dumped on the crucible related stuff....
Its so sad because it had potential... so much potential.
Both incants are TERRIBLE damage and utility wise, they already have their counterparts in every other school of int/fai.
The AOW does decent damage but for gods sake the HITBOX is like threading a needle. Using it currently on a great katana, i used it while being close to a spider scorpion, it just went through it 4 TIMES IN A ROW. The stagger isnt even that great either.
Overall real sad that they didnt produce something amazing with crucible, while im looking at the knights using crucible tongues and centaurs like : " why cant i use that too?"
- Anonymous
The main advantage of this hammer over Ordovis' GS, and why it's actually good, is that it's AoE does full damage of the Skill. Meanwhile Ordovis' Vortex only does full damage with a direct hit, and it's AoE is a lot weaker. I still have no idea why Devonia's Vortex has worse stagger though, make zero sense
- Anonymous
Beat the rest of the DLC with this as soon as I picked it up off Devonia. Absolutely slaps on a str/fth crucible Knight build.
- Anonymous
if the hammer had a hitbox the whole time it was spinning, this would be good
- Anonymous
because god forbid a weapon be unique in any way right devs?
- Anonymous
What they should have done with this weapon is had the ash be a Ledo Greathammer clone except have it be with the crucible magic stuff. I feel like that would have been preferable.

Comparing to the black blade, this has less AR but it's more focused twords the physical portion and does strike damage which means it will out damage black blade on its normal swings but not by a crazy amount and it doesn't really justify the terrible copy pasted WA.
I’ll add something no one else has said yet:
There’s finally another hybrid STR/FAI Colossal Weapon to powerstance with my beloved Staff of the Avatar; and they look so badass together. Super cool having access to both Faith-scaled Weapon Arts on my Paladin build as well!

Massive hyper armor during the skill use. Dont know why people complain

Some test results for anyone interested.
2h r1 does pretty much the same dmg as ordovis greatsword 2h r2.
2h r2 does about 25% more dmg than 2h r1.
2h charged r2 does about 50% more dmg from uncharged 2h r2.
WA vs ordivis WA:
uncharged WA does 12,5% more dmg than ordovis uncharged WA.
Charged WA does 12,5% more dmg than ordovis charged WA.
Denovias WA charged increases dmg of WA by 40%.
Ordovis WA charging increases dmg of WA by 45%.
Ordivis WA does overall more posture dmg than the hammer.
Ordovis WA is quicker to charge
Ordivis charge time = 2,5 seconds, unchared = 1,5 sec
Devonias charge time = 4 seconds, uncharged = 2,5 sec
Using the charged ordivis WA has more poise dmg, 22,5% more WA dmg and the same charge time as the uncharges Devonias WA.
Possible faults in testing:
Testing was made against the stormveil castle troll unnotiched, ordovis WA main dmg comes from the blade while Devonias WA main dmg comes from the last blast this might have changed some dmg since the stealth attack bonus will probably only apply to the first hit which favors the Ordovis WA. Biggest hitstun might also come from the last part of Devonias WA which could play a role in the different amount of poise dmg when applied unnotiched, however this would still mean that the WA does about the same poise dmg as the ordovis WA.

Might not be the greatest colossal, I’m hoping it gets a buff, but really enjoy the look and feel of the weapon. +10’d it with no regrets. I prefer the weapon skill to Staff of the Avatar, though I wish the skill was Devonia’s overhead slam with a shockwave instead of the vortex.
- Anonymous
Really Fromsoft? Reused ash but worse? Could've at least given this the golem's halberd moveset or longer reach but no, it's just a much worse Ordovis Greatsword.

Lorewise, Devonia is based on the Devonian, while Ordovis and Siluria are based on the Ordovician and the Silurian. All of these are time periods when life itself evolved, further adding to the theory that the Crucible is a nod to evolution.

This does less poise damage than Ordovis's Greatsword? But visually it looks like this sht should poise break the elden beast in 1 go?!?!?
- Anonymous
It is quite disappointing honestly. Compared to Ordovis' Greatsword this hammer only has about ~100 more AR but with clunky slow Colossal moveset. The weapon art is MUCH slower, does IDENTICAL damage and seems to have slightly wider AoE but it's barely noticeable. The stagger is also WORSE that the greatsword's because fully charged Ordovis' Vortex can stance break a troll, but Devonia's can't even though it takes like twice as much time
