Dragonclaw Shield is a Greatshield in Elden Ring. The Dragonclaw Shield is a Shield that scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity. Greatshields weigh a decent amount and provide the best protection in the game. Greatshields provide a greater value of blocking and protecting one's self from enemy and boss attacks, but greatly increases the weight and reduces the player's mobility. This type of shield works best at reducing damage or guarding instead of parrying.

Greatshield said to have been whittled from the claw of a great, ancient dragon, wielded by grotesque Tree Sentinels who yet serve the Erdtree.

Imbued with lightning.

They managed to let you change the Ash of War on frikin sorcery staffs without changing scaling why not shields? If it at least did some cool lightning nonsense when you bash but noooo...

      • Anonymous

shields should not come with a skill. that automatically makes this tied for the worst shield in the game alongside with all the useless shields that have a skill that cant be replaced

        • Anonymous

I thought what a lot of people stated here in the comments the delayed homing lightning attack would have been dope.

But hear me out I wish it had a lightning cloud bash, similar to what you get with the dragon lance. Fromsoft really undersold us on alot in this game.

          • Anonymous

Wish this had a skill that called down a delayed AoE lightning strike like how the draconic sentinel does

            • Anonymous

To expand on the moveset idea a lot of people are mentioning, I really think this could've had something cool with a two-handed moveset. You can block since two handing allows that, but also use the slashing with your attacks. We really need some weapons with properly unique moveset, GIVE ME A SHIELD THATS ACTUALLY A WEAPON

              • Anonymous

Would have been a great oportunity for them to make the first hand moveset a mix of slashes with the claw instead of the standard bashes

                • Anonymous

Does anyone know if the lightning potion of the weapon also scales with Dex? It says it scales better with Strength but I'm assuming that's only the physical portion of the weapon right?

                  • Anonymous

It would've been awesome if this was a one handed claw weapon similar to the Grafted Dragon with good block potential.

                    • Anonymous

This appears to be missable if you kill maliketh/get to Ashen Capital before killing the draconic tree sentinel (if you take Fia's route).

Shields in general are underrated as weapons, but this one in particular hits higher than you'd think thanks to getting damage scaling from both Str and Dex. Just don't try to use it on the Lansseax-style dragons - despite the 15% damage boost, they have huge lightning resist and you'll miss out on half the AR.

The weapon art of this should have been the same as the random lightning that attacks you when fighting Lichdragon. Red lighting effect starts on your target the instant you use the weapon art and you slam the shield in front of you not to do damage but to block and the instant the shield hits the ground is when the lightning would strike the target. Would have been a really cool counter attack similar to shield bash.

Malformed Dragon Set (w/ no helm) + Dragon King’s Cragblade + this shield—with a furled dragon face tattoo and white hair dye to match the shield accents—is peak Lightning Boi Fashion Week…

Okay, okay—maybe I put a bit too much effort and thought into this, but the immersion and role-play enhancing benefits of a proper themed build actually enhances the gameplay experience for me :P…

Its criminal this is locked to shield bash, it should have the red lightning attack but at the very least let us ash it. Awesome shield done dirty

I did two nearly 100% runs before this and never used a shield once. Nothing to do with pride or anything, just my playstyle—dodging and focusing on spacing is just far more natural for me. However, this third run I made a DEX lightning build and I had been using Bolt of Gransax for a while, still with no shield, even though that’s a strength of spears. So, you can imagine my surprise and elation when I tried out the skill on this thing. Opens up many humanoid enemies to an instant riposte (if not instant than in two hits) and works with all my lightning buffs for my build. Now I don’t have to passively sit there blocking; I can get offensive block frames! I’m actually a little glad this thing doesn’t allow ash changing (not totally serious ‘cause options are always better) but, in my case, it forced me to try the skill when I otherwise would have slapped No Skill on this and never found out just how fun and effective the skill can be!

I understand at got a lightning hitting greatshield you could main as a weapon here. I still really wish it could be infused, it fits prefect with my character, but can't use it without ash.

This thing hits almost as good as a straight sword while blocking.

I'm looking to pair it up with another thonder weapon, but for now I use the Great Turtle Shell in my main hand because it has a pasdive to restore stamina faster, & the greatshield talisman which can turn you into a very hefty tank.

I believe this has the strongest shield bash in the game, even if an ash of war pushes another further your going to lose that 100% physical protection.

The shield bash includes lightning damage. Plus it has relatively good lightning defense compared to other shields with same weight.

                                      • Anonymous

It's very disappointing that they didn't give this the lightning strike skill that the boss uses with it. This thing only has two specific niches: It's a lightning damage weapon that scales mainly with strength, and it has the second best lightning defense of greatshields (best per weight, since it's not even half as heavy as the fingerprint greatshield).

                                        • Anonymous

Man I really wish this either got a unique weapon skill or could accept ashes of war, awesome visual design but there are way better options to pick from the other greathshields.

                                          • Anonymous

Shame that this doesn't have the cool lightning spell used by the boss when he sticks the shield straight up.

                                            • Anonymous

Shield bash on this is a great alternative if you're bad a parrying. Great way to close out fights that are getting close to the wire, or to help maintain the stagger meter. Been having a lot of fun with this on my first playthrough, worth the +9 I put on it.

                                              • Anonymous

Testing on the knights at the Gatefront Ruins, this shield's weapon art is doing a LOT more damage than expected. At +5 it's doing about 450, outdamaging a +14 Heavy Great Stars. Possibly something to do with lightning weakness, or possibly the Shield Bash skill just gets a big damage bonus like a lot of weapon skills. But when compared to the Briar Shield, this is still doing about 3x as much. Really really useful.
