Rickety Shield is a Small Shield in Elden Ring. The Rickety Shield is a Shield that scales primarily with Strength. Small Shields usually weigh very little and give the least protection from attacks. They are often used by players who prefer parrying rather than blocking. Its lighter weight also makes it ideal for quick, agile characters with low equipment weight capacity.

 

A creaky old wooden shield, circular in shape. Roughly reinforced with vines or some such.

There are countless other shields available of better make. This piece of scrap isn't worth the effort of equipping.

Elden Ring Rickety Shield Notes & Tips

  • Shield Skill: Parry
  • Skill description: Use the Parry skill in time with a foe's melee attack to deflect it and break that foe's stance.
  • This shield can be infused with Ashes of War and buffed with Magic and Consumables.
  • Put the Golden Parry Ash of War on this shield allows you to out-perform buckler's parry in some situations since the parry box is so large, it can parry an attack at the very beginning of its swing which can occur a couple frames before the attack's hitbox would otherwise collide with you for buckler parry.
  • The lightest shield of the Small Shield class. While the shield has below average damage reduction and guard boost, it is handy for parrying and applying shield-type Ashes of War with bare minimum weight.

        Literally the best shield in the game if you don't use shields but need to use a shield only Ash of War, it's (to my knowledge) the only 1 weight shield

            putting Carian Retaliation or Golden Parry on this is fine if equip load is your primary concern. However, the parry frames for "special" parries are the same when used on a small or medium shield, and guard boost is considered when you perform a 'partial parry' (in which you block the attack, kind of, but do not successfully parry). With the Rickety Shield's terrible guard boost, a partial parry is likely to drain your whole stamina bar. So when using special ash of war parries, medium shields are better if you can support the weight, especially Twinbird for its passive effect. However, this shield is phenomenal early on for parrying Kaiden Sellswords, Lordsworn Knights, Darriwil, Night's Cavalry, the Bell-Bearing Hunter, and Margit.

                ‘Cuz it has only 8 str requirements it means that any starting class can you use it. Also very good to have it slotted for pvp to parry RoB and other nasty stuff (1 weight bruh).

                    Best shield for Golden Parry, Vow of the Invincible and Thop's Barrier if you don't mind carrying literal wooden trash. Don't put Carian Retaliation tho, just...just put it on the Carian Knight Shield since that thing already has intelligence scalling.

                            Dont let the description fool you. This is one of the best shields in the game. If you want the lightest parry tool then this is the thing for you. Carian retaliation? Golden parry? No problem.

                              Found a good farming spot for this: directly north (in plain sight) of the "South of the Lookout Tower" site of grace is a group of 4 Demi-Humans that all use this shield and can drop it.

                                everyone else is using this for parries but I just put holy ground on it to keep my health topped off, the 1 weight is very nice because I've got some otherwise heavy gear and this doesn't make me fat roll

                                  Lightest parrying tool in the game with the 2nd best frame-data for a parry (behind only the buckler parry)!

                                  I highly recommend putting the Golden Parry ash of war on this shield if you don't mind spending FP and parry frequently. Golden parry can even allow you to out-perform buckler's parry in some situations since the parry box is so large, it can parry an attack at the very beginning of its swing which can occur a couple frames before the attack's hitbox would otherwise collide with you for buckler parry.
