Buckler is a Small Shield in Elden Ring. The Buckle is a Shield that scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity. The Buckler is primarily used to Parry enemies, as it has its own unique Parry called "Buckler Parry". However, it can be used to Block in a pinch if there is absolutely no other way to avoid damage.

 

A small metal roundshield.
The bump in the center enables parrying techniques.

A well-timed parry can break an enemy's stance, allowing a critical
hit.
Best suited for those prepared to take the risk to reap their reward.

      all they had to do was make small shield versions of AoW. Golden Parry for regular shields and (working title) for small shields with better stats than the original.

          Any boss that is wielding something that vaguely resembles a sword (and is less than roughly 3 times your own height) can be completely and utterly trivialized with just this and your personal choice of riposting implement. Margit, Crucible Knight, Bell Bearing Hunter, and many more will all start seething in frustration as they can barely get a single hit out without you instantly batting them back down again and again.

          That said, even though the Buckler is powerful as heck, it is still a direct downgrade to Carian Retaliation, even if you discount C.R.'s spell-parrying ability, since Carian Retaliation's parry lasts longer than the Buckler's and can be placed on many different shields.
          However, since the Buckler can be obtained much earlier than Carian Retaliation, it will still find a place in your kit for many hours.

            2 main reasons I use this shield for parrying above others, number one being that, well, it's good af for parrying and two, it is so small and it blends into my armor (blaidd's chestpiece and bull goat gauntlets) so well that (atleast my friends) can't even see it and before they know it they're on the ground getting critical hit ;]

              You can only buy the Buckler (and other items) from him if you have the Rusty Key. You get it from the dark room with a Banished Knight.

                I miss the target shield. I like the buckler but it looks like a belly button. Woulda been nice to have another option with the same parry frames.

                  Really wish they would have given the Partying Dagger the same frames as this Buckler seeing as they're both unique weapons designed specifically for parrying. The fact the party knife is so slow is kinda sad, I'd love to be able to keep it as one of my offhands to pull out for parry's but it's not even worth considering compared to the buckler or the party ashes of wars on other shields.

                          This is NOT the best parry sheild in the game
                          using Carian Retaliation Ash of War on Small or Medium sheilds straight up gives you more parry frames
                          Buckler Parry:
                          Number of frames from pressing the button until the parry frames start: 8 frames.
                          Number of Parry frames: 11 frames.
                          Carian Retaliation on Small or Medium Sheilds:
                          Number of frames from pressing the button until the parry frames start: 8 frames.
                          Number of Parry frames: 14 frames.

                          the downside to Carian Retaliation is that it cost FP to use, but it only costs FP when you parry magic attacks, when you parry physical attacks it does not cost FP.

                            The fact you can get this so early makes it feel like Thief has the worst gear out of any starting class. It has the highest starting Arcane, so giving it the Katana would be better. Hell, even if it's just the Tanto to keep it as a dagger would be fine, since you can powerstance that with the Uchigatana you get early...

                              If you've already killed Godrick you can rest at the grace to bring him there, where he'll be stepping on Godrick's head. If you kill him there you can get his bell bearing.

                                  It's only 1.5 weight so you can use two shields, one with 100% block and this one to switch to for certain enemies and PvP

                                        This thing is awesome. Been practicing with it. Instead of starting your parry to time it’s animation with enemy weapon impact, start when the enemy’s arm moves (or their body reaches forward for a thrust). You might need to experiment with some enemies to not mistake just stumbling around or something as an attack. And since the arm moves a shorter distance than the weapon due to being closer to the body, reacting to it consistently lines you up for the parry.

                                            Hey so I initially thought I wouldn't be able to get this shield because I never opened the gate and after I beat Godrick he wouldn't sell me anything. I killed him and he dropped his bell bearing, which can given to the merchant thing in the Roundtable Hold and you can buy it from there :)

                                              Seems like the shield parry delay is shorter, it parries faster. So compared to normal parry, where you have to start the parry animation before the attack hits you, with buckler parry you dont have to start the animation so early. As such it is more forgiving for just reacting to the attack swing, rather than learning the attack animation of enemies.

                                              Dont know about whether there is a difference in parry window though.

                                                    All other parrying shield skills seem to share the timing with the normal parry, so might be best to stick with those unless your really want to commit to the quicker parry as opposed to the utility of some of the other shield skills
