Astrologer's Staff is a Glintstone Staff in Elden Ring. The Astrologer's Staff scales primarily with Intelligence and is a good Weapon for spellcasters that rely on their magic attacks.

Staff of the astrologers. A glintsone is embedded in the tip, enabling it to be used as a catalyst for sorceries.

Sorceries must be memorized first at a site of lost grace, and a staff must be equipped to cast them.

Astrologer's Staff Upgrades in Elden Ring

Please see the Upgrades page to understand the weapon bolstering process.

Requires regular reinforcement with Smithing Stone [1]Smithing Stone [2]Smithing Stone [3]Smithing Stone [4]Smithing Stone [5]Smithing Stone [6]Smithing Stone [7]Smithing Stone [8], and Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.

This upgrade can be enchanted with Magic or boosted with Consumables.

Sorcery Scaling is based on Int stat. The Int of the the character with the staff equipped at the time of posting the Sor Scaling is located in the (Int) to the right of the scaling amount. This will help to give a general idea of what staves are better at various Int levels until MAX is achieved.

Graphing 8 data points for Sorcery Scaling at different Int levels comes to 1.11609x + 97.6978 (where x is int) at reinforcement level 0. The game does round so this may be off by a point or two. Use this to get a idea of how this will scale for you.

*Note: Sorcery Scaling will show as 60 if you do not meet the stat requirements. The Sorcery Scaling displayed on this table shows Minimum Requirement and Intelligence 80 as xx-yy.

I know it requires a bit of research or experience to know about the meteorite staff, but we are two years out from release now. So I think it's a shame that the unique astrologer's staff doesn't hold a candle to it. Like, here's a unique weapon for the all-magic class, but you should chuck it in the chest at your earliest convenience and don't look back until you reach Raya Lucaria...

      • Anonymous

It'd been kinda cool if it buffed Founding Rain of Stars considering the lore. Besides its neat appearance, its rather unremarkable otherwise in the sorcery scaling department, being surpassed by a multitude of different staves.

Sad this one gets outclassed both in early, mid, and late game via the Demiqueen, Academy Sorcerer, and Carian Royal / Lusat Staffs respectively, I think it is one of the best looking staves.

Putting in everybody's stats below that actually list their INT, the equation for scaling at +0 is very, very close to (always round down):
            1.165*INT + 97
This seems to hold for +/-2 and seems to be a tad high for over 60 INT so the scale probably drops a little with higher values.

Then for each plus, it looks like it's linear, with:
            [+0's Scaling] * (1 + (0.032 * [Plus Amount]))
            or:
            +5, [+0's Scaling] * 1.16
            +10, [+0's Scaling] * 1.32
            +15, [+0's Scaling] * 1.48
            +20, [+0's Scaling] * 1.64
            +25, [+0's Scaling] * 1.8

This matches all of SamDoehart's data with +/- 1 accuracy

hey im new to the game and it seems like i cant equip the staff from my inventory and it has a little x in the corner. does enyone know how i can eqip it?

              • With 60 INT the Sorcery Scaling at each level is as follows:

                +0 - 166
                +1 - 172
                +2 - 177
                +3 - 182
                +4 - 188
                +5 - 193
                +6 - 198
                +7 - 204
                +8 - 209
                +9 - 214
                +10 - 220
                +11 - 225
                +12 - 230
                +13 - 236
                +14 - 241
                +15 - 246
                +16 - 252
                +17 - 257
                +18 - 262
                +19 - 268
                +20 - 273
                +21 - 278
                +22 - 284
                +23 - 289
                +24 - 294
                +25 - 300

                • Yeah the Sor Scaling on the table is a mess. The posted equation does appear to work thus far when the staff is +0. But the equation very much changes when upgraded and I dont have enough data to do the math yet

                    Just for common sense sake

                    1) put the bloody int you’re basing the scaling off
                    2) make sure the stats aren’t contradictory, +0 and +3 are the same? Yeeeeeeaaaannnno fix it

                    • We appreciate people posting their scaling but if you go threw the trouble to do so please include your Int score to. Otherwise its mostly meaningless

                      • Anonymous

Does incantations not work because I’m a samurai? I bought spells and equipped them, bought the Astrologers Staff, but it doesn’t do anything when I try and use it

                        • Here is the data I used to find Sorcery Scaling equation:
Name, reinforcement level, Sorcery Scaling, (int)
                          Astrologer's Staff +0 115 (16)
                          Astrologer's Staff +0 136 (34)
                          Astrologer's Staff +0 139 (37)
                          Astrologer's Staff +0 142 (40)
                          Astrologer's Staff +0 157 (52)
                          1.15957x + 96.2872

This staff can be upgraded with ashes of war despite what the Wiki says, however, only a few ashes can be be used. Mine has spinning weapon in it.

                            • The sorcery scaling stats of almost all the staves in this wiki are very off. Do NOT trust it.

My Astrologer Staff has 128 sorcery scaling at +4. And yes, I do have the stats to wield it. My Demi-Human Staff on the other hand has 130 sorcery scaling at +0. Character stats probably affects the sorcery scaling.

                              • A relatively nice staff, cosmetically speaking. Being the starter staff it’s actually not half bad when upgraded. Yes, there are better options but, if you like the way it looks and don’t mind taking a hit to total damage it will suit you just fine with most spells. Meteor, Crystal and Regal are far better if you’re after damage.

                                • Anonymous

Elden Ring changes the display, and only displays the total magic adjustment value. You cannot see the base number + stat modifier anymore. So the stat you will see is always based on your current INT value. This means a comparison can only be done when using the same upgrade & player stats.

how can i infuse this weapon with ashes of war???

i have multiple ashes of war and can put them on weapons but in the staff menu there is no ash selectable.

                                    can you guide me pleasse?

Is this a Dark Souls 3 situation where the starter staff is basically the best one in the game till you get the actual best staff?
