Gelmir Glintstone Staff is a Glintstone Staff in Elden Ring. The Gelmir Glintstone Staff scales primarily with Intelligence and Faith with minor scaling in Strength. It is a good hybrid Intelligence/Faith Weapon for casting Magma sorceries.
Staff with a forked tip, embedded with red glintstones. Enhances lava sorceries.
The Man-Serpents of Mt. Gelmir draw from faith in addition to intelligence to enhance the potency of their sorcery.
Where to Find Gelmir Glintstone Staff
- The Gelmir Glintstone Staff is an uncommon drop from the Man-Serpent Sorcerer in the throne room above Volcano Manor.
- It is recommended that players use a Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot for each run up to the throne room to boost item discovery from killing enemies as well as unlock the lift leading from the Temple of Eiglay Site of Grace to the throne room. Due to the relatively low drop rate, it may take multiple runs and teleports back to the site of grace to see the staff drop.

Requires regular reinforcement with Smithing Stone [1], Smithing Stone [2], Smithing Stone [3], Smithing Stone [4], Smithing Stone [5], Smithing Stone [6], Smithing Stone [7], Smithing Stone [8], and Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.
Sorcery Scaling for this staff takes equal scaling from both Int and Faith stats. The stats of the character with the staff equipped at the time of posting the Sor Scaling is located in the (Int/Fai) to the right of the scaling amount. This will help to give a general idea of what staves are better at various Int and Faith levels until MAX is achieved.
The Sorcery Scaling displayed on this table shows Minimum Requirement and Intelligence / Faith 80 as xx-yy.

At 240 discovery, did about 20 runs and nothing. Unless, I'm misunderstanding how the drop-rate calculation works, I'm at around 25% chance and after 20 runs I should have five already. Yes, yes, I know how probabilities work, but then again, it's also probable that the 11% at 100 discovery is wrong.
- Anonymous
All said, RL around 100, FAI is 40, starting to raise INT, and this lil egg warmer is going to keep me company until I get the dual catalyst. Can't wait to unleash the Fam's rage.
- Anonymous
You know, after coming to terms with its drop rate and general mediocrity, there's just one thing that I still feel like complaining about. The Gelmir Staff's weird scaling means that it not only sucks at high casting stats, but at the low ones as well which kind of sucks when you're making very specific builds or anything low-level.
- Anonymous
A mediocre, very niche staff that isn't even that amazing at it's niche is also one of the most obnoxious items to farm? Classic From Software
- Anonymous
Not bad damage if you dual wield two of them and equip dread talisman.
- Anonymous
Wtf, at 99 int and 99 fth it inly has 12 more points than the staff of the guilty, tf is this?
- Anonymous
hey guys I'm sorry--got it second run/first use of the silver foot :D
- Anonymous
Idc if this staff isn't the best, if others out-rank it, especially with the new DLC staffs; It's golden, the ONLY golden staff, and that complements my attire nicely, so screw meta; I'm using this thing, makes me look regal n' shid.

Now that there's a new talisman for Gelmir sorceries I decided to finally give this thing a chance, but it's sooooo underpowered, even with the 15% taken into account. First of all, at 80/80 int/fth this thing has 319 scaling, compared to the Prince of Death's 430 (!) and the Carian Scepter at 373 (that only requires 80 int!). Even if you were to add 15% to that 319 scaling, it would still come out at ~366 (lower than both of the other two). PLUS, if you actually know how these things are calculated, you'd know it's even WORSE than that, cause the 15% bonus is applied AFTER the damage is reduced by the target's defense, so you're getting worse damage than 366 scaling with no bonus... Unfortunately, this is really an offhand staff at best. If you just want to use one staff and stop at 80 points of investment just go full int (with the small amount of faith needed for the sorceries) and use the Carian Scepter.
pair with the Talisman of the Dread and hitting a 40/40 on Int and Fth, a good staff to use when your reaching RL:125-135 aka soft cap around dlc ready at the first play through.
Now viable using the lava spells somewhat earlier in the game
- Anonymous
According to the wiki (which I assume still hasn’t been updated to include the new patch) this had a scaling of 296 at 60/60 int & fth. Well, I can happily say that at those stats I’m now getting an astonishing 298 scaling! Thank you From :’)
- Anonymous
With the new magma talisman this can actually be somewhat viable. I also noticed that weapons with the ‘Smithscript’ tag have int and fth scaling, I can see fromsoft trying for a magma-forge based archetype and I'm here for it
- Anonymous
The new buff is nice and all but this staff and the Prince of Death staff are still not competitive with just going 60INT/24FTH and using the Academy Glintstone Staff if you are trying to make a meta-level caster and want access to most of the faith-based spells. These need to be BETTER with similar investment than all but the highest pure INT staves to be useful, since INT/FTH is a difficult build to make effective and involves a very wide stat spread. 40INT/30FTH should have the same scaling or better as the aforementioned Academy Staff setup, since you are losing access to so many of the strongest sorceries given your reduced INT, but it's quite a bit weaker. Here's hoping the DLC weapons and spells make INT/FTH competitive and not just a way to get a little extra novelty in your caster build.

Hoping Messmer’s heavy emphasis on serpents and lava means that we’ll get a cool new magma sorcery and that I didn’t waste my time farming this

Perfect staff complementing a sword of night and flame build

Huh? This weapon absolutely can be infused with ashes of war.

I have 216 discovery and i've killed bro 38 times... am i the problem?
- Anonymous
At 45/45, despite having comparatively much lower scaling than the golden order scaling, the boost to magma sorcery is noticeable and compensates decently. Lava shot is good to begin with and Rykard's rancor will appreciate it too.
You could make use of those and boost your other fire incantations in one fell swoop for some nice mixups. Plus the staff looks good and is very light.

Instead of saying FromSoft favours "unga bunga braindead" builds I think it makes more sense to think that FromSoft likes to reward players who are decisive when its time for action and rewards confidence. Hesitancy to the point of inaction is something that always gets you killed in their games. Keyword: Inaction. It's perfectly cromulent to take your time and go at your own pace. It's why DEX and INT builds are rewarded for the same thing; albeit usually from more distance. This stave is a good example of this.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
It's actually pretty good on the right build. Perfectly viable with an equal split even below 40/40. Yes, the prince of death's staff is more suitable past 50/50. There are more sorceries than comet azur. There are more staves than the regal scepter. There are more ways to play the game than what an ign guide tells you. You can play the game before you become a RL 200 monster with 80+ int. Have a great day.
- Anonymous
I'll never understand why FromSoft makes interesting odd weapons and tools be objectively bad and suboptimal. Meanwhile Bonk-stick-unga-bunga STR zombies do a gorillion dmg by pressing one button with added hyperarmor (me btw).
FromSoft ENCOURAGES braindead builds and gameplay.

Came here to just to say I got this and magma blade first try on the same run

If you wanna Int Faith build at meta levels, and you wanna cast sorceries, this is your best scaling. Lots of reasons you might do this. Your golden order seal has higher scaling, but maybe you want sorceries too. At this level in PVE using Lava for bosses resistant to holy might be your plan. Double gelmir will give you the kind of scaling usually reserved for Carian Regal Sceptre 80 Int users, so this is not a meme build.
- Anonymous
This and the Death Prince Staff should be sup par on spell scalling with the G.O Seal, because on god, a staff that is only optimal when you have two stats on 70 or higher, is not worth using
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Sucks that this scales evenly between int and faith when you realize magma sorceries are predominantly int. Death sorceries are definitely more int focused, but they got some chunky fai requirements, so it makes sense that the staff scales evenly.
- Anonymous
On even spread, this is outperformed by demi-humans staff until 26/26 faith and intelligence.

Honestly the biggest bullshit in the game. No other rare drop requires such a tedious run and yields an item so essential for a certain builds in the mid game. Why is the garbage candlestick (that's also used by a single enemy) a manor quest reward instead of this?
The question is why I should use this if I can use the Carian Regal Scepter for all magma sorceries at 70 INT/18 FTH. I'll try it when I get home. It probably will outperform dualwielded Gelmir Glintstone Staff.
- Anonymous
I farmed two in two hours at 9 arcane, and no added discovery items. Well worth it to get two for the stacked lava spell damage bonus, on top of Godfrey's icon even better. 50/50 faith/intelligence, for a level 160, it does quite nice.

Snakes have what is called a “Hemi*****” this is a dual tip snake staff with twin red tips that help shoot hot loads.

If you want to go very high int+fth, get prince of death's staff. Gelmir Staff is fantastic for lower numbers. I've got 42 int, 50 fth and this thing has 280 scaling. That's pretty much the best option for me, as I'm staying lvl 125 for pvp.
- Anonymous
When I was about to start farming this staff, I was expecting it to take me all day. FIRST TRY. Not joking. Technically second try, because I sweeped the room the first time, and then never returned until I was gonna get the staff. But ****ing first farm attempt.

- Anonymous
kinda funky that this staff has red glintstone embedded in it as the focus but has no link to blood magic or Arcane, given how every other mention of the stuff notes that it's created from crystalized sacrificial blood, or makes a connection to the Blood Star/Formless Mother.
Maybe Gelmir's magma is just a ****ton of molten red glintstone or something? maybe mixed with gravity-infused stone from the local Fallingstar Beast impact? Would be kinda wild.
Either way something about Gelmir is just....not right - even without Rykard and his shenanigans, the place has an unusually particular connection to death, serpents, and dark rituals, and the fact that Rykard was able to develop such an outright oxymoronic school of sorcery by studying Gelmiran hexes and the local lava flows makes even the ecology of the place feel cursed. I'd be fascinated to get more details about the place in the DLC hopefully

Funny how the dual scaling seals are overpowered af and the dual scaling staffs are total dogshit.
- Anonymous
Idk if this was pure coincidence or what, but I could NOT get this damned thing to drop... until I went in there and killed the enemy that drops it *without having any ashes summoned* - it then dropped first try. Yeah...Idk...

This should've been a dual Sorcery/Incantation catalyst for pyromancies.

It is worth it to farm for two of them if you intend to use magma sorceries, definitely

I always live reading these comments. Just trying to figure out what I'm gonna do for my next build and some guy is talking about this being his pimp cane, while another guy is going on a rant about split scaling...
- Anonymous
Getting one of these took way longer than the magma blades...but it's doable at 200 discovery. I'm not even gonna use it just collecting all available in-game weapons. Only one weapon to go...so now I gotta do a new game plus to kill those duelists pre-Ash Leyndell ugh.

I wield this in my left hand at +25, with a +25 Prince of Deaths Staff in my right. That way I get the passive boost to my lava sorceries (that are Int/Faith based) while dealing more damage than I would just casting from the Gelmir Staff
There are a lot of misconceptions about this staff and hybrid builds in general, so I'd like to clarify them a bit.
For starters, this is pretty much the best staff for FTH/ INT hybrid for pvp at meta levels. At 45/45 int/ fth Gelmir staff has 280 sorcery scaling, while Prince Of Death's staff has 266 scaling. POS only starts to outperform this staff at 50/50 split, which means it basically needs 10 extra levels worth of stats. POS in general, isn't really viable for pvp, since it scales similarly to quality affinity, and doesn't really get really good until insanely high levels.
Now to get to my next point, 280 sorcery scaling might not look super impressive on paper, especially if compared to pure catalysts like Regal Scepter/ Lusats at 80 Int, but it's actually quite decent if use it for it's intended purpose, aka casting Lava sorceries. Rycard's Rancour is a solid spell, and Roiling Magma is one of the most underrated spells in the game, easily being able to do 1k + damage to players with average fire resistance on full charge, and that's before accounting for any possible damage modifiers, like Fire physick tear, flames grant me strength, Graven Mass Talisman, Golden Vow etc...
But that's not the point. If your playing a hybrid build, you'll almost certainly want to pair it with Golden Order Seal. Every character has 10 spell slots. Since you already have relatively high faith investment, you'll almost certainly want to slot at least a couple of good buffs, because it's one of the perks of faith build. You'll also probably want at least a couple of offensive incantations, to make use of the Golden Order Seal.
This means that you'll have 2-3 spell slots left for sorceries, and that's what you'll use this staff for. The amount of Sorcery this staff has is more than enough for that.
On short, if your using this staff, on FTH/ INT hybrid, and then your using it to cast stuff like Swift Shard/ Carian Slicer, etc just like any other generic mage, then your obviously not gonna see impressive numbers , might as well make a separate pure int build for that.
The whole point of making hybrid build, and using hybrid catalysts is to use hybrid spells, that pure builds can't utilize.

I just got it on my first try and laughed out loud after reading these comments
- Anonymous
Funny how something so rare for one is so common for the next. Have had quite a few of these drop but not a one magma sword. Same can be said for a few other rare and not so rare items. Envoy great horn or whatever it’s called has dropped for me numerous times. No Octo helm, blood whip, or damn magma sword tho.
So I understand with the sorcery scaling the prince of death's staff becomes the better choice, but is that inclusive to the magma sorceries? I plan to use a character that has just magma sorceries for the magic options, so will this staff always out perform other staffs when it comes to magma sorceries?
- Anonymous
It is incredibly annoying how the “best” staff is an obtuse hunk of rock and this deliciously drippy staff is so useless.
Not gonna stop me from using it though.
- Anonymous
On my hybrid build I am using PoD staff but off handing this and using Magma Shot, incredibly powerful and fun

Genuinely feel as though this isn't meant to be used. A ridiculously rare drop from an enemy there is only one of that can hardly be farmed , fitting a barely workable niche that has an objectively superior, easier to acquire option.
- Anonymous
You know, when you add descriptions like this, MAYBE you should also describe WHERE the throne room IS!
One of the most tedious items to farm and its entirely useless
- Anonymous
Not sure if this is a fluke or not, but I’ve had about 5 play throughs now between two characters, and the staff has always dropped the first time I killed the man-serpent. After the first drop though, it’s been a grind to get a second staff in the same playthrough.
- Anonymous
280 sorcery scaling at 45/45 int/faith at +25. I know sorcery drew the short straw when it came to hybrid catalysts, but between this and prince of death's obscene 80/80 cap (266 scaling at 45/45) is just a kick in the teeth at this point. The only other hybrid staffs are the albinauric staff (325 scaling at 45/45 int/arc), and technically staff of the guilty (305 scaling at 80 faith).
- Anonymous
How's 11.11% a low drop rate? It is one of the biggest drop rates in the entire game. I farmed like 5+ weapons with 0.5% base drop rate and that was painful.

this isn't great staff. I have tested it with all 50 stat using with magma shot. and despite having +10% increase with magma sorceries it did less damage (!!!) than albinauric staff and prince of death staff

It's pretty **** because lava sorceries are a bad joke. If you want to play with magma just get the blade or whip. You will have much better damage at a much higher FP efficiency.

for how much it takes to get this staff and make it have good scaling, I think that the buff should be more significant. Why waste almost double the levels compared to just meeting the fth requirement and using any other staff, when the actual returns are almost negligible?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
At 49/49 this has the EXACT same Sorcery Scaling as the Prince of Deaths Staff.
- Anonymous
While its outperformed by other Glintstone staves at higher investment, I think this staff would pair well if you plan to run Sacred Seal with Glintstone Staff run focusing on Fire Spells and Incants since you wont be investing heavily into int after reaching around 40 int, pump the rest on faith since most Fire abilities are centered on incants, the Lava Sorceries are still good enough but why miss up additional spells for fun when you can have all of them.

Lol this is literally a crutch. I mean LITERALLY like the ones in hospital
don't remember even seeing this particular enemy wielding... i was going to use this chance to farm for another magma blade but ithe staff dropped on the first kill. It is 11.11% after all... should drop pretty consistently with high Disc
- Anonymous
don't bother with this staff even at 80 int and fth carian regal outperforms this thing, just get enough fth to cast rykards rancor and use the carian regal or lusats

does the passive efffect buff lava ash of war like eruption and makar's sword?

does dual wielding this give you a 30% boost to magma? and is magma sorc considered physical or fire damage? if its fire does flame grant me strength boost it? thank you!
- Anonymous
I feel like this would have made more sense to scale mostly with int and a bit with fth considering most magma sorcery has a higher int requirement than fth, especially rykards rancor
I just updated the Sor Scaling column in the table. Hopefully I did this right. I took all of my Int boosters off to show my base level
- Anonymous
Does this boost your magma sorceries if you hold it in your offhand and cast with a staff in your main hand similar to the staff of loss strat?
