I use this on my cold build, it's certainly not the best build i ever play with but, if u just happend to do cold with lower INT and higher DEX/STR, this staff is trusty for those spells, i reccomend DEX weapon over STR weapon to get better casting speed

      • Anonymous

Very decent early-to-mid game staff that outpaces the one you start with, and has a niche beyond that for low Int builds that would still like to do some casting. Just an all-round well-balanced weapon. I kind of prefer it to the Meteorite Staff because it feels like it keeps you honest.

        • Anonymous

Would have been neat if this staff was extra large to reflect where it came from, and to subtly encourage you to two-hand it for added strength bonus.

          • Anonymous

Noob Mage: levels intelligence then picks this up and never uses it. Should have leveled up the attention to detail stat.

            • Anonymous

This matches beautifully with the Watchdog's Staff and both take str so it's a nice aesthetic combo for cool people who care about that sort of thing.

              • Anonymous

Doesn’t really have a niche. What I thought would be cool is if it used a thrusting motion during casting for Str / Tank mages to be able to guard while casting.

                • Anonymous

This is a fantastic early game staff for mages as it's spell buff is really high and will outperform the starter staff. Allowing you to focus on investing in health and mana till your satisfied. Afterwards you can start pumping up Int and switch over to a better staff.

On what build would taking INT only to 40 be ideal? Assuming endgame SL125/SL150 builds, what build is taking INT to 40?

                    • Anonymous

Does anyone know if this staff outperforms carian glintstone staff (exclusively using carian sword sorceries) at sub 40 int levels?

                      • Anonymous

I’m pretty sure it’s inferred Lusat might have made this.

He was expelled by the academy for studying the primeval current.

My guess is that he became more rebellious over frustration for not making sorcery more accessible for others. Only Radahn’s group also seemed to be heavily involved with working with beasts.

We see him and a few other sorcerers hanging out with demi-humans. He just gives the player a free spell for approaching him.

My guess is that he was trying to help foster their intelligence.

                        • Anonymous

For when you want to cast Magic but don't want to go into all that Int investment, this is for you.

40 is very acceptable for builds utilizing Cold weapons as most get a C in Int scaling and favors whatever the 'primary' stat is. Very handy for those who prefer physical based stats but want an acceptable casting option, just in case.

It's niche, but in that niche it's great.

                          • Anonymous

Use this on my Cold build, paired with a Cold Broadsword. Since a Cold Broadsword only gets C scaling with Int, it was best to use a staff that worked well with lower Int stats.

You can infuse with an ash of war and give it s int scaling. I guess the quote about being "sneared at by fools in the academy" made its way to the wiki more literally.

                              • Anonymous

Best all around Staff in the game for low INT builds. Fully upgraded it has higher scaling than all staves(at least up to 25 INT). It might be worth switching to other staves if you want to specialize on one type of Sorcery though, because some give significant bonuses to certain spells.

This staff actually CAN have ashes of war. I only know of spinning weapon, but that is an ash of war that can be applied to it, so..

                                  • Anonymous

This staff is for hybrid builds who wont go above 40 int once this is at +14 its is superior to meteorite staff outside of gravity spells

                                    • Anonymous

The optimal use for this Staff is to have INT at 20 and just use Armament sorceries on a STR, DEX or QUALITY build.

                                      • Anonymous

I'm actually looking for a staff for a idea of a mostly pure strength build. I am going to use the Ruin Greatsword with min int since I was having fun with it on my int build but it's actual int scaling wasn't doing me much good. Figured let's select a staff that works well at low levels and get some auxiliary spells. Seems to me this is the most ideal staff for that role.

                                        • Sorcery Scaling at 23 Intelligence:

                                          *Astrologer's Staff +4 = 131
                                          *Demi-Human Queen's Staff +0 = 132
                                          *Demi-Human Queen's Staff +4 = 142

*I wonder at what INT the Astro Staff will overtake the DHQ Staff.

                                          • Anonymous

Where are these stats coming from? They don't match with the game I'm playing. At +6 the SOR scaling is 156 not 172

                                            • Anonymous

Given 48 intelligence, Sorcery Scaling for Mid-Game:

                                              Academy Glintstone Staff +14: 214

                                              Meteorite Staff: 213

                                              Academy Glintstone Staff +13: 210

                                              Crystal Staff +6: 206

                                              Carian Glintstone Staff +13: 202

                                              Demi-human Queen's Staff +13: 199

                                              Digger's Staff +13: 191

                                              Staff of Loss +13: 187

So, for mid-game, Academy Glintstone Staff *barely* beats outs Meteorite Staff, provided you upgrade it to +14.

Would this be considered a good staff for a str/int build? If not what would be considered a good one for use? Was thinking 60Str/50Int, mostly focused on str/int weapons but wanted a staff offhand for use also

                                                • Anonymous

Is anyone else getting a glitch with this staff? At +20 with 60 Int, it does 387 damage or randomly 430 damage(a crit maybe) with my rock sling spell. If I increase my Int to 69 it does 227 damage.

                                                  • Anonymous

It says 60 because people keep putting the stats on the staves they're seeing without the required INT most likely, or something similar because all staves display 60 sorcery scaling if you don't meet the INT requirement.

                                                      • Anonymous

Started the game as a Vagabond (kicking my int, faith, and arcane up to 10 because I like round numbers), decided to throw on the one glintstone pebble spell I had for shiggles, and oh my god it did so much more work than I ever thought it would.

It’s not the best staff in the game by a longshot, but its low stat requirements allowed me to experiment with sorcery just enough to make me re-spec into a proper spellknight build at the first opportunity.

This staff at +8 has 163 Sor Scaling when at 40 Int.
