Smithscript Axe is an Axe in Elden Ring. It was added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Smithscript Axe scales primarily with StrengthDexterityIntelligence and Faith and is a good Weapon for players that want a ranged melee alternative without a FP cost. As a Smithscript weapon, it can be thrown and immediately returns to the user's hand.

Where to Find Smithscript Axe in Elden Ring

The Smithscript Axe weapon can be found at the following location:

  • Taylew's Ruined Forge: From the initial site of grace, continue following the path, get past the enemy, and take the ladder down then jump across the other platforms and turn left.   • Weapon Skill: Wild Strikes
  • This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War, ones that add a buff to the weapon excluded.
  • Can't be enchanted with Magic nor boosted by Consumables
  • Smithscript Axe can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones
  • Strong attacks and jumping strong attacks throw the axe as a ranged projectile for zero FP

    • Arrow's Reach Talisman will not extend the range of thrown axe but will reduce the damage falloff.
  • Projectile damage is boosted by Smithing Talisman

      Alas, feels like a 'wasted potential' weapon. The concept is amazing -- where the Smithscript Cirques are the dual-wield Smithscript, Hammer is the 2-handed, this would have been the perfect one-hand-and-shield weapon. Not only can you throw the axe from a heavy/charged heavy, but also from a jump, just like the Cirques.

      Unfortunately, it has harsh damage falloff on any throw that's not a full-charged heavy unless you have Arrow's Sting to help, and the full-charged heavies deal shockingly little stance damage. Another case of a weapon with a great moveset but lacking numbers.

        The convenience store version of Nioh 2 hatchets.

        With the difference that in Nioh 2, they made the hatchet throwing combos actually viable at least.

          I needed a weapon to pair with my Greatbow build, as I didn't want to be switching out from Arrow's Sting & Arrow's Soaring Sting Talisman when I wanted to do melee. This fits perfectly, and now I can run around using the Greatbow on larger more dangerous targets, and this on regular mobs. With the two talismans the damage remains good in close quarters, and also allows me to keep stance pressure up on enemies. I've paired it with the Carian Filigree Crest and the Shard of Alexander, as I will be using the bow ashes of war regularly, as well as Ground Slam, which I put on this axe (fire infused). Allows me to get the most of my FP, as well as having higher damage on bow ash of war shots, and Ground Slam helps break enemy poise really effectively. All around, I am loving this combo and especially this axe.

            I wish your character could put at least a little bit of effort into throwing this axe, because the damage of heavy attacks even at short range is laughable

              Even with Arrow's Reach equipped this things damage falloff is pretty bad. Like the moment it begins to arc down it loses 2/3rds of its damage so I'm always second-guessing myself whether or not it will kill something.

                  If you are good at spacing you can punish a whole lot of stuff with it. I'm running it +24 magic on a rl 200 int/faith build so it's not even optimized but it hits hard in the right range and you can put spinning slash on it to delete people up close.

                        The throwing damage fall off range is so short you might as well melee whatever you are trying to throw at wtf. Why does FROM keep making cool ass weapons then take away the fun.

                            These smithscript weapons are really cool, but that mandatory points into int/faith are kind crap for pure melee builds or strict builds that don't want to waste points into int or faith.

                              This thing is hilarious! I infused it with poison just because. Gonna try blood later (playing a wacky split build with a lot of arcane) and this thing procs in 2 throws (sometimes 1!!) BAM -got your attention BAM 2- you are poisoned!

                                im glad the throw range is so long but its kinda dumb how it loses like 90% of its damage at max distance. hard to land freeaim shots probably shouldn't be doing 17 damage.

                                  Smithscript weapons are still pretty good, just not broken int/fth scaling anymore. The pre "nerf" scalings are very likely a bug.

                                    So I'm trying to make a smith script build primarily use the axe, and having a hard time figuring out what to put my stats into I primarily use frost infusion but not sure if putting the points into int is worth it or not and just but my levels into str and dex

                                      So if I'm not mistaken, you can stack Two-Handed Talisman, Axe Talisman, Smithing Talisman and a Scorpion Charm?

                                      I don't know the intricacies of the damage calculations but:
                                      1.15 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.12(elemental) = 1.55848?

                                      A 55.848% damage buff on charged heavies before even buffing which are pretty safe with this weapon given the distance you can use them from sounds great!

                                        With the way the axe immediately arcs when thrown, the jumping heavy throw is better than the neutral heavy at hitting locked-on targets (unless they’re huge, I suppose). I’ve found myself often hitting the ground at the feet of whatever I’ve locked onto when using the neutral, despite it being within range. Neutral R2 is good for free-aim if you can manage it though. Gotta aim a bit higher above the target.

                                        Personally, I slapped Warcry on this bad boy and between the jumping throws and altered neutral R2’s the moveset has been fantastic. Lightning infusion too because I miss my DS3 Dragonslayer Axe

                                          Don't worry, it's still worth using after the nerf. The AR is still on the high end for axes. It's quite good as a melee/mid range sidearm for casters that want to save spell slots for the heavy hitting spells. I would compare it to the cult favorite Iron Cleaver--satisfying damage and a fun moveset.

                                            The recent nerf, in my opinion, was a huge detremental to a lot of int/fth builds. The Erdsteel Dagger already had the property of increasing physical and fire/holy damage with flame art/sacred respectively.

                                            In fact, not being able to buff the weapon with grease already suggested that the intend of those weapons was to have them infused with elements.

                                            I do agree that the damage was too high, but the nerf was too brutish.

                                            Reduce the scaling for it to be appropriate for that weapon type and keep the scaling as it used to be. That way, pure int/fth players can have an alternative that is fun and unique while not restricting them to another weapon that mainly does magical, fire or holy damage.

                                            Right now, this nerf was too drastic.

                                                Every single smithscript weapon is overperforming right now. Base game Halbert 1200 AR, 5 pound axe 1400 AR with a ranged attack.

                                                • Sacred is by far the most advantageous infusion for this weapon. Magic has slightly higher base attack power without buffs, but Golden Vow and Sacred Blade's weapon buff more than make up the difference. You could take it farther with Flame Grant Me Strength on a Flame Art version, but it will perform worse in the rain and you don't have any synergistic Ashes of War to put on it, the followup of Flaming Strike does weapon damage but the initial fire swath scales with your Strength, making it deal barely any damage on this weapon on a Faith build. Sacred Blade, of course, scales with your Faith and has a lot of hyper armor, which is why I think it's the superior choice. This weapon does as much damage as a Colossal Weapon, it's frankly overtuned and I don't expect it to survive for very many patches, so make use of it while you can.

                                                    I'm starting to think this weapon's scaling is bugged. When magic infused with 60 INT, 24 STR, 25 DEX at +25 , it has an AR of 869.

                                                    it hits like a colossal, and has a throwing heavy and also a jumping throwing heavy. Against mobs it melts most in two throws. What I've also noticed is that out of all the smithscript weapons, this one seems to hit headshots more consistently, especially with the jumping throw. The only downside is the stamina consumption on throws, and the fact that it's an axe.

                                                    Easily the best and most reliable smithscript weapon.

                                                      What's the deal with the damage on the R2? It seems super inconsistent. Sometimes I chunk them for regular damage, sometimes it does double, and other times still it just tickles them. What is going on? Anyone know?

                                                        Cold infusion > Magic infusion on this weapon imo. You get C scaling in both Int and Str compared to magic which only gets C scaling in int. That alone almost completely makes up for the lower base damage, and of course you get frostbite on top. Wild Strikes on this thing demolishes.

                                                          I think the scaling on it is bugged which leads to absurdly high damage. When magic infused it gets E on both str and dex, yet it still gets 200+ physical AR scaling.

                                                            This is randomly the best thing INT builds got in this whole DLC.
                                                            When infused with magic it scales effectively exclusively with INT, and well all the way into 80, so at endgame this random Axe outdamages every dedicated INT weapon. In fact the only things that get close to it in dmg on a pure INT build and great and colossal weapons infused with magic, and those are way slower and heavier and still have lower AR.

                                                            25 STR, 25 DEX, 80 INT math:
                                                            Magic Smithscript Axe +25 905 AR
                                                            Dark Moon Greatsword +10 709 AR
                                                            Moonveil +10 680 AR

                                                              I thought I wanted the Greathammer, but I fell in love with the Axe. The charged R2 is so much faster and uses so much less stamina. The jumping R2 adds versatility to combat, and you can trade out the Two-Handed Sword Talisman for the Claw Talisman. If only the damage held up at longer range.

                                                                Probably the best of the Smithscript weapons imo since one of its throwing attacks is a jumping one which means it benefits from the claw talisman, blackquill/raptor chest armor, as well as the throw talisman for a hefty damage boost.

                                                                  does anyone know if the throw attack is bugged? sometimes it does around double damage randomly (or perhaps most of the times it does half it’s supposed damage) and is not because of headshots, i tested and its literally a cointoss if you do big damage or a pathetic attack

                                                                      The utter confusion I felt when I saw a +24 Axe throw blow past my +25 hammer throws damage. Hammer has less falloff but this does absurd damage for what it is lol. Arrow Flight talisman also reduces the falloff!

                                                                        This thing scales VERY strongly with casting stats if insused with Sacred / Flame Art / Magic. With base stats on everything else but 80 INT or 80 FTH it hits 900+ AR, putting dedicated magical weapons to shame.
                                                                        Hits way harder than light weapons for caster builds like moonveil and coded sword, it even has more AR than weapons of heavier category like the buffed Darkmoon Greatsword and Blasphemous Blade. The only weapon that even competes with it for FTH builds is Fire Knights Greatsword when infused with flame art.

                                                                          This thing has 900 ar at base stats and 80 faith when flame or sacred infused. For comparison, the closest axe is a fire infused warped axe. It has 694 ar at 80 str.

                                                                            Just killed the last boss thanks to this axe. Flame infused, FGMS, golden vow, alexander shard, fire dmg talisman, fire dmg flask.

                                                                            2 hits of wildstrikes into the heavy followup was 9000 dmg, hyper armor and 40 stance dmg. Triggers phase 2 in 2 reps, stance breaks in 3.

                                                                              At 40 DEX 80 INT, Magic +25 deals 916 AR vs Moonveil's 706, on testing against Godrick's room troll Moonveil deal 516 dmg vs 749 from this axe

                                                                                This is my second favorite weapon behind the Milady in the DLC so far. Set this thing to the frostbite infusion, put on an ash of war the hits multiple time, and do jump heavies to flinch things with higher resist. I tested this vs Haligtree knights and the jump heavy flinched them out of their healing animation and with 1 cast savage lion claw on 1 jump heavy it frostbit them. This thing is an awesome option for any build that wants a ranged status or flinch option on melee builds.

Until I realized that this is the New Erdsteel Dagger & that it works for Magic/Cold as well Flame/Sacred. In other Words, your caster stats also make you physically hit harder.

                                                                                    Due to the smithscript weapons scaling their physical damage with int and faith, when infused with sacred/flame/magic they have a similar effect to the Erdsteel Dagger where they scale both of their damage types with your magic stat of choice, giving you absurdly high AR. At base requirements with the only other stat being 80 faith, has an AR of 900 on Flame Art.
