Scadutree Fragment is a new Upgrade Material in Elden Ring, debuting in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Scadutree Fragments are optional consumables that can be used to enhance simultaneously offensive and defensive capabilities at any Sites of Grace, acting like a permanent boost to your DLC damage dealt and damage negation.

  • With the calibration update 1.12.2 Attack and damage negation curve scaling of the Scadutree Blessing have been revised. The attack and damage negation has been increased for the first half of the maximum amount of Blessing enhancements, and the second half will now be more gradual. The attack and damage negation granted by the final level of Blessing enhancements has been slightly increased.

  • For the other part of the blessing, check the Revered Spirit Ash page.

A splinter of the Scadutree that contains golden brilliance. Acquired at the Church of Marika and other places in the realm of shadow. Consume these at sites of grace to bolster your Scadutree Blessing. The Scadutree Blessing bolsters the bearer's ability to deal and negate damage but has no influence outside the realm of shadow. It is said that when the Scadutree crumbles from its core that it will scatter across the entire realm of shadow. The people of the Erdtree collect the splinters and use them in prayer.

Elden Ring Scadutree Fragment Guide

As you journey through the Realm of Shadow, you will find several Scadutree Fragments. After finding one, you can rest at any Site of Grace and see the new Shadow Realm Blessing tab. In this menu, you can spend your Scadutree Fragments to level up your character in a unique way. Leveling up your Scadutree Blessing will increase the damage you deal and decrease the damage you take. As you level your Scadutree Blessing, the amount of Scadutree Fragments you need to do so will increase. Do note that your Scadutree Blessing ONLY applies while you are inside the Realm of Shadow. They will have no impact on your character if you go back to the Lands Between (base game).

It is important to note that while this mechanic is entirely optional, enemies and bosses in the Realm of Shadow are extremely difficult. If you aren't dealing enough damage or are dying very quickly, it may be wise to explore and level your Scadutree Blessing before fighting more bosses. You also do not need to level your Scadutree Blessing to the maximum. While doing this will still increase your stats, the first 12 levels will provide the largest boost, with subsequent levels having reduced effects. You can view the exact effects of each Scadutree Blessing level below.

Early Scadutree Fragments Guide

You can find all of these items in our Shadow of the Erdtree Map, however there are 10 Scadutree Fragments you easily acquire in the first region before facing a single Boss. This guide will get you to Scadutree Blessing level 5 with one additional fragment left over. If you need more, there is a second part to this guide that details how to get into the next region early and get to Scadutree Blessing level 10.

  • 1x east of Scorched Ruins Site of Grace: Dropped by a shadow enemy holding a shining pot.
  • 2x Fragments at Church of Consolation: Go east from the Gravesite Plain grace and follow the path leading to the church.
  • 1x by the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace: Found right next to the Miquella Cross.
  • 1x by the Main Gate Cross Site of Grace: Follow the main path from the Three-Path Cross to find another Miquella Cross.
  • 1x west of  Prospect Town: Dropped by a shadow enemy holding a shining pot. Go southeast from the Main Gate Cross and run along the cliffside to reach the Cliffroad Terminus site of grace. Run west from here to find a graveyard and kill the shining pot enemy.
  • 1x at a Marika Statue: Look north from the Three-Path Cross and you'll find the Ellac Greatbridge. Traverse this bridge while being cautious of the ballista and soldier enemies. Inside the camp you'll find a Marika Statue with the fragment next to it.
  • 1x inside Castle Ensis: From the Castle Front grace, run past the troll enemy guarding the staircase and follow the main path. There will be a Miquella Cross behind a Black Knight enemy. Pick up the fragment and touch the grace before the Black Knight gets to you.
  • 1x at the Pillar Path Cross: Run southeast from the Castle Front site of grace and follow the path on the left. Turn left at the fork in the road to find another Miquella Cross.
  • 1x at Belurat, Tower Settlement: Progress through the legacy dungeon until the Small Private Altar site of grace. Head up the stairs and wait for the Horned Knight to pass by. Go down the stairs and jump on the roof, then go through the alleyway. Climb the ladder in the next room and go up the stairs. Head left instead of going through the Gravebird section. Many scorpions will appear, head right and jump up the rubble and go through the doorway. Watch out for the ambush by a Man Fly who will grab you as you enter. Head through this room to find a Miquella Cross at the end.

This next section involves getting into the next region early. If you do not want to explore past Gravesite Plain at this moment, you can stop reading until you reach this region through normal boss progression.

From the Castle Front site of grace, run south until you see the Ruined Forge Lava Intake. There is a path leading downwards to the left of this dungeon, follow it and it will take you to a poison swamp. Traverse the swamp and you will find a sealed spirit spring to the east. There is a pile of rocks nearby that you have to break before jumping up. After doing so, jump up the second spirit spring, but aim directly northeast while doing so to land outside the fort. Run around the fort to the front entrance and go through the cave to the north. This path will take you to Scadu Altus where you can collect some more easy fragments. Head north from the Ghostflame Dragon to find Moorth Ruins for the next few fragments.

  • 1x at Moorth Ruins: Right next to the Miquella Cross.
  • 1x west of Moorth Ruins: From the Moorth Ruins site of grace, head west to find an enemy encampment. Inside is a Marika Statue with the fragment.
  • 1x northeast of Moorth Ruins: From the Moorth Ruins site of grace, head northeast to find a river. Run through to find another Marika Statue at the entrance to a cave.
  • 1x south of Moorth Ruins: From the Moorth Ruins site of grace, head southeast to find a shadow enemy with a shining pot near the ravine. Kill it to get the fragment.
  • 1x at Scaduview Cross: From the Moorth Highway, South site of grace, run through the cave and then head northeast to find a sealed spirit spring. Activate it and jump up. Run south after getting up the cliff and turn east to find another Miquella Cross.
  • 1x at Highroad Cross: From the Moorth Ruins site of grace, head northwest and follow the path until you get to an intersection. Turn south and you will see a Miquella Cross with the fragment.
  • 2x at Church of the Crusade: From the Highroad Cross site of grace, turn northwest and head towards the church. You will be invaded upon entering the church, but you can pick up the fragments next to the Marika Statue before he gets a chance to kill you.
  • 1x at an enemy encampment: From the Highroad Cross site of grace, you should see the Furnace Golem to the north. Head towards it, and grab the fragment from a Marika Statue near the entrance.
  • 1x at Temple Town Ruins: You can reach the ruins by going behind the Marika Statue in front of the cave northeast of Moorth Ruins. Traverse the poison swamp and then run southwest from the Ancient Ruin Base site of grace. Circle around the ruins until you find a very small hole in the wall. Go up the stairs and jump into the room covered in the red tarp to find the fragment.

You should have collected 20 Scadutree Fragments if you followed the guide fully. This gets you up to Scadutree Blessing level 10, which should be more than enough for the first few bosses. You can find a list of all Scadutree Fragments at the bottom of this page.

Can't believe that people are fighting over a small numerical change. This was a clever way to present the dlc to players of all rune levels equally, but they could have cut the amount to like 30 and remove some in random-ass-looking no-where places.

      • Anonymous

Too many bosses I defeated 1st attempt. These were stupid and the people complaining were even more stupid and the buff to these things is even more stupid. Wish I could remove the ones I already equipped.

        • Anonymous

Confirmed that your blessing level DOES carry into NG+
And, like tears and seeds, you can pick up more fragments and ashes in the DLC even if you picked them up in the previous cycle

          • Anonymous

bruh I've missed 5 and there is no way I'll remember which ones I haven't picked up even with the guide...

            • Anonymous

i know scadu is old english for shadow but like... scadutree doesn't sound like a cool name, it sounds like some kind of poop tree or something lmao
using old english to find ideas for names is a pretty good idea, but poopoo tree really aint it man

              • Leveling up in Elden Ring is to get access to certain weapons and skills (or magic), besides of course your att & def level. But Elden Ring's gatekeepers who are tucked with level 150 meta keep whining about other players who are above it and also at the same time are RUNNING AWAY like Usain Bolt in the DLC, just straight to the bosses and complete the game. FOMO hits harder than their already scarlet rotted brain. You're supposed to explore EVERYTHING offered in the game, you paid an entire base game for the DLC. Unless you pirated the game (I can tell), of course, you're going to brag about beating the game ASAP on social media. I don't mind if you do that but keep your inflated ego to yourselves. The problem is that you brag around and whining other people's gameplay who actually BOUGHT the game and explored everything. Def a sign of maidenless attitude.

                • Anonymous

Not sure what people are complaining about, I played the dlc same way I played the main game, explore everything, collect everything and these were just on the way. People who don't enjoy that shouldn't be enjoying the base game of Elden Ring in the first place. You're essentially starting a new game with the dlc and if you wanted to just breeze through it with your overleveled characters, why bother playing it at all?

                  • Anonymous

Not a huge fan of this mechanic, unlike levelling up it doesn't really feel like progression you earn or let you do anything new :( At least they fix the wonky balance by about level 7, but I wish they'd just balanced the DLC better and not had these fragments at all

                    • Anonymous

Really find these frustrating. There's no rhyme or reason to them, so it feels super disconnected from everything else the game does. Like shouldn't they be from bosses or like at the end of side dungeons or something? Not digging the random collectathon

                      • Anonymous

new patch has made these way too powerful, now some bosses need a serious HP boost; specifically Midra and Messmer.

                        • Anonymous

                          I have found 3 softcaps:
                          Level 2, Level 7 and Level 12.
Level 12 basically makes you ready for the whole DLC with only 25 Scadutree Fragments

                          • Anonymous

Not sure if its right but from level 9 going into 10 its requiring me to use 3 fragments. Did it change with a patch?

                            • Anonymous

It's so funny how people complaining about the difficulty when these exists, having a fair amount literally trivialize the DLC, you'll have an easier time than base-end game.
these basically continue the Elden ring way of "go explore to get stronger" idea which i really love.

too bad alot of people play this game like it's a damn boss rush.

Make sure that when you're looking for the "Scadutree Fragment - Cerulean Coast" that you don't just check the Cerulean Coast site of grace. The fragment is at the Cerulean Coast Cross site of grace, which is different, and to the south. The title of this should be "Scadutree Fragment - Cerulean Coast Cross" to be less misleading and more aligned with the other fragments found at "cross" sites of grace.

                                • The damage reduction is not (relative) linear, and has soft caps at levels 2 and 12. In reality, most of your noticable %dmg reduction (as well as %dmg dealt) comes pretty early on, so you don't have to worry too much about scouring the map for every single one of these.

Damage reduction of each level (compared to previous level):
                                  Levels 1-2: about 9%
                                  Levels 3-12: 4 - 6%
                                  Levels 13-20: 1.2 - 1.4%

                                  • Anonymous

The before and after patch 1.12.2 blessing values never even match a Golden Vow in power difference. The maximum level difference is 2.5% more damage and 2.5% less taken total. Fromsoft did the equivalent of making it slightly easier to "level up" earlier in the DLC. I think if people actually stopped to consider and compare the Blessing system to the rest of the game the controversy around this patch would dry up. I would compare this controversy to if people though using rune boosts, even group passwords, was ruining the game because they could level up slightly faster.

I like these but thats only because i like exploring the world thoroughly so it feels like being rewarded for that since they can be all over. I know theres people who dont really engage with that open world aspect of the game and just want to go from boss to boss so this probably sucks for them

Y'all remember back when Souls bosses had patterns you could learn, and stamina you could exhaust? We didn't need no Scadutree blessings for them

By far the stupidest way to balance difficulty. They could’ve just made the dlc scale with levels like normal or make the bosses drop the necessary amount of fragments for the next areas. Not sure about anyone else but spending an hour to find these fragments every time you unlock a new area is beyond annoying.

I don't wanna lump myself in with all the cry babies in the comments, but I do wish these were put in more important places that reflected how essential they are. I mean your flask upgrades were either in churches or marked by golden trees... These? They're just a rare item found on the ground randomly.

"it's not too hard" mfs when every patch for the next year is buffs to every weapon/spell and nerfs to all these overtuned bathsalt smoking bosses

Step 1: 1x southeast of Scorched Ruins: Dropped by a shadow enemy holding a shining pot. Wrong, it's directly east of the Scorched Ruins grace, northeast of the ruins themselves, in the graveyard.

They really should add like five more of these around the map. Having to look in every corner just to get enough to max the blessing is tedious.

The patch really hurts some of the best bosses in the game. Messmer and Midra suffer greatly for it as you'll likely be doing around 15 percent more damage to them midgame in comparison to pre-patch, while they didn't have much health in the first place.

Im not even christian but juses christ man the entire time I've been playing this game I couldn't put down my phone and close the guides because missing some useless **** will simply add another 50 hours of pure frustration and headache. I played all of their previous games but this only happened with sekiro and DS2 I finished sekiro it was a great game but very short with enjoyable combat but dropped ds2 because I simply didn't know with to do where to go and couldn't play without a guide elden ring is pretty much the same playing blind is just begging for frustration and adds forced gameplay time riding your horse in a empty jungle to find some item so you wont be **** stomped by some infinite poise **** with infinite delayed attack combos

These scadutree fragments would be a lot better if there was more than the exact amount you need to max out, the map is very vertical so it's very easy to miss stuff, especially since they hide some of the fragments in random enemies like the pot dudes. I don't imagine many people are maxing out without a guide and the final boss is still a pain even with a maxed out blessing.

Remember when some stupid flowers were glowing like some MMO legendary loot all across the map and literally the most important item in the DLC is treated like some random trash in middle of nowhere

Only instant gratification zoomers like the new patch because they grew up with everything handed to them instead of working and earning their rewards. Fromsoft knew that with the new influx of normies they'd have to adjust the game difficulty so that no-having attention span 15 year olds with no patience would stick with the game so they finally bent the knee instead of sticking to their vision. Nothing good ever comes from popularity, souls games should've stayed niche just like gaming.

Start a new file. Spend 30-60 minutes on base game prep work. Spend an extra 40+ minutes hunting down these for the DLC just to reach base game level of difficulty. I think apologetics fail to grasp that it’s not that they made the DLC more difficult, it’s that they added a whole upgrade system to deal with just to do more than baby damage to DLC bosses. “A way for players to fine-tune difficulty” is redundant when you have Wretch class, +0 weapons, and NG+ and beyond. I doubt the intention to include them was to create artificial difficulty (perish the thought!) I believe it was to create an incentive for players to reach all four corners of the map in search of fragments. The DLC content is gorgeous and I do love some of the boss fights, but this was a bit of bloat I could have done without.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                        • You can for sure get 52 fragments at least, I have picked up 52 and am currently maxed out at 20 on my blessing. I had been stuck at 19 with 2 extra fragments and found the last one at Rauh ancient ruins in the ruin south west from the Viaduct Minor Tower Grace. It was a pot shadow inside next to the spiritstream drop down on the highest floor inside. Not sure where I got the other 1 but I would Imagine it was probably a pot shadow somewhere in Rauh as well.

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

Now with the changes I wish there was a way to remove some fragments to go back to the multiplier number it was before because I'm defo not going to level it higher at all, nor do I wanted it to be higher.

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

According to the wiki, you need 52 fragments but every guide says there are 50 total. Which means one playthrough should land you at level 19 with one extra shard.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

nobody wants to talk about what its going to be like when you replay this and have to scour every nook and cranny of the map again. they ought to have just kept it consistent and made them available only at the crosses, whether that's exploration or tucked behind a boss, it really needs to have that signal.

it doesn't even feel rewarding, either I power up and kill stuff too quickly, but im also scrounging for every fragment i can get to curb the damage taken to a reasonable level. Could they not have just "balanced" the areas using the complexity of the enemies (or even just the vibes) rather than arbitrary number tiers? even as i fight the final boss with +20, i don't feel strong at all, more like i crawled back to where i originally was.

Not only that, but the damage absorption gets cranked so high there's really not that much meaningful distinction between armor classes anymore due to diminishing returns, as a light armor user thats good for me, but I don't think its a good idea.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

You may encounter an optional dragon, but you don't have to fight anything. That's level 10 perfectly, right there. Which with the new patch is equal to what 13 used to be. Now it's super worth it. How? The spirit springs that jump you up to the fort of reprimand. Don't land on top of it, jump to the right side of it and land on the ground. Go hit the grace in front, go through the cave, ignore the ghostflame dragon fighting a bunch of adds, and just run up scadu altus. Congrats you skipped Renalla.

Ride around to the north of the fort, hit the grace, and continue north from the cave, beyond the ghostflame dragon (ignore it).

Level 17 pre patch gives the same boost as lvl 12 post patch, that just an example of how much they are buffed in the earlier levels.

                                                                                              • The 1.12.2 patch is a welcome change, but they should really make major bosses drop 1-2 of these each. It's just silly that beating 3 bosses has no effect on the DLC leveling system, but killing 3 random pot-holding dudes does.

Having extras from the bosses would also alleviate the pain of being at level 18-19 scadu and having to comb over the entire map to find the last few you missed.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

I'm kinda surprised that all people I was helping in coop have such low blessing level. I mean, 6 on Messmer and 10 on Radahn? Are people trying to rush dlc to avoid spoilers or something? These fragments aren't so hard to find if you just take your time exploring the map. And I like this mechanic although it's by no means ground breaking.

I collected 50 fragments but am only at lvl 19, with 1 shard. Every guide says there are 50 frags, but the wiki shows it takes 52 to max

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

This is such bad implemented cause how do you find these if you have level 15 ? They need to show this in the map or put merchants to sell it.

                                                                                                              • Anonymous

I like this mechanic however i think it was poorly implemented. I feel like these shouldn't have been scattered around considering how important these are for the dlc and instead these should have been placed in important areas that you progress through or placed in churches instead of random places so that you would almost never miss them, or atleast have it so that most are in important places until you're at 15 levels of the fragment and to reach 20 levels you need to explore, because right now i missed one and i need to re-check multiple places.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

I got every single one and still ended up with 49. I genuinely re-checked every single area 3 times as well. wasted like 3 hours of my time just attempting to find the absolute last one. bullshit they didn't add extras like gold seeds

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous

I’m mad at this being an extra step you take to reach base game level of difficulty. They tried to sell them as a way to fine tune said difficulty, but players already do that themselves with their RL, their weapon upgrade level, which NG cycle they’re in and whether or not they’re using Great runes, Talismans, Buffs, etc
What they should have done is made the DLC difficulty level equivalent to being ScaduLevel 10 or 15, and gave us stronger buffs or talismans, or even brought back armor upgrades from Dark Souls for better defense. The fact that FromSoft made Scadulevels only apply to the DLC area means there’s a difficulty plateau they expect you to scale, hence the extra step.
New bosses will always take time to learn but if they become too easy, I’ll either revisit them with lower RL or move on to NG+ and beyond.
I’m sure this and arguments like it will either evolve or fade as time passes and players adapt, much like the discord on Spirit Ashes and Malenia (“it’s not healing or waterfowl; she cheats with poise/hyperarmor”), but I hope this mechanic never finds its way to future titles’ DLC.

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

my issue with these is how it practically takes away the agency in how you choose to progress, in comparison to the base game

                                                                                                                          • Anonymous

It seems that when you invade your scadutree blessing is scaled down to match the host's. For a while I was concerned about how they would handle this system for matchmaking, because it could either have led to more restrictive matchmaking or power imbalances if one side has more blessings. However, it seems that they've attempted to balance it by making players match. My scadutree blessing is currently at level 5, but when I invade in Belurat it typically shows level 1. I'm assuming this is because the players there are at that level.

                                                                                                                            • Anonymous

But that’s not Fair to Returning Casual Players soo. IDK I’m just a little Evil I Guess.

                                                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                                                • Anonymous

So they'll be at an disadvantage twice over? I don't like that. It's all too much. DLC should not be connected to whatever NG plus you're on in the base game. And instead we should get fragments every time we beat an remembrance boss ..kind of like how the upgrade system in Sekiro was.

                                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

These are extremely important, not collecting them and exploring to find more means you are doing a challenge run. Several streamers even sent their fans to review bomb the game because of "it too hard"...when they refused to explore for these.

What's the point of this? Why couldn't they just scale the bosses to a normal end game rune level?

OR 2. go explore somewhere else and come back later. While option 1 was way quicker in the base game, in the dlc option 2 is quicker and finally also rewarding. And remember both are still valid in there respective Worlds. You still get stronger with lvls its not like they removed it. I think its a pretty elegant game design decision. And remember pls you dont have to find all of them. its not like you only get a reward if you collect all 100 feathers or smth. imho i think at buff lvl 10 its kinda balanced (keep in mind dlc is intended as endgame content) and i think they didnt intended player to get every one of them. Have fun and a good day to all :)

May have been coincidence, but in a 3 player game where I had level 8 Scadutree and another player had 3 Scadutree fragment. It was substantially easier to beat a boss in my world vs. theirs. I'm wondering if you get scaled down or up depending on the hosts fragment level.
