Golden Seeds are an Upgrade Material and optional Keepsake in Elden Ring. Upgrade Materials can be acquired through exploration, looting from specific areas, dropped by an Enemy or Boss, given by an NPC, or sold by a Merchant.
A golden seed, found at the base of an illusory tree.
Increases a Sacred Flask's number of uses.
(Can be used after resting at a site of grace.)
When the Elden Ring was shattered, these seeds flew from the Erdtree, scattering across the various lands, as if life itself knew that its end has come.
Elden Ring Golden Seeds Guide
Golden Seeds are very special items that allow the user to upgrade the number of Crimson and Cerulean Flask charges (but not the amount of Flask of Wondrous Physick uses).
- You start with 4 Flask charges.
- You need 1 Seed for upgrades increasing to 6 total Flasks. (Subtotal 2 Seeds.)
- You need 2 Seeds for upgrades increasing to 8 total Flasks. (Subtotal 6 Seeds.)
- You need 3 Seeds for upgrades increasing to 10 total Flasks. (Subtotal 12 Seeds.)
- You need 4 Seeds for upgrades increasing to 12 total Flasks. (Subtotal 20 Seeds.)
- You need 5 Seeds for upgrades increasing to 14 total Flasks. (Total 30 Seeds.)
You can get far more than 30 Seeds in your first play-through (without going into New Game Plus) so you don't have to find all of them to upgrade your flasks to max level.

Why is there no mention of golden seeds being able to upgrade the amount of hp/fp each flask restores? Was I tripping that I did this?
- Anonymous
"One (1) can be found at Flame Peak, before a massive frozen giant." Ah, yes, very descriptive. Found before a massive frozen giant, where there are literally hundreds of massive frozen giants. Here, I can't edit the page myself but I'll give you a little thing you can copy and put in next time you edit it.
"From the Foot of the Forge site of grace, go northeast to the two Snow Trolls throwing massive magic pots."

The maximum should've been 15, even if we got less healing per flask, smh
- Anonymous
why are they called phantom trees when they are very much tangible and opaque
They really need to give us something to do with the leftover seeds. So many left at the end of the game -- even more if you keep picking them up through NG+ etc.! And you can't even sell them! Why?? Extra ones should be good for SOMEthing.
Maybe additional flask(s) in the DLC? Maybe they can be sold or traded for something else in the DLC?
- Anonymous
FYI, for anyone going for the one near the Grand Cloister, the "giant monster" referred to in the guide is an Ulcerated Tree Spirit. Not sure why the guide is so needlessly vague.

About two golden seeds in Mohgwyn. I picked up the seed near the mausoleum midpoint grace and accidentally rested at a grace, but the seed in blood swamp was still there. So, either I had some sort of a glitch or one seed don't necessarily disappear when the other is picked. Maybe it's tied to Mohg?I did killed him before picking up the seeds, so maybe that's the reason why the second seed did not disappeared.

You can consistently get one for free in Lake of Rot by putting down your summon sign, getting summoned, and then returning to your world. Will reset the enemies, which includes the putrid snake boi below the grand cloister grace, which will be placed above ground. Apparently it’s not immune to rot so after some time it’s hp will be draining and eventually you’ll get the seed.

They could have done a lot more with this, like a garden full of life surrounding the tree, maybe with a good being watching over it, then when you take the seed it all withers and some horrible beast emerges you have to fight.

Having to go through two menu screens to be told you don't have any golden seeds is the biggest proof of the DS2 influence in this game.

Maybe someone can help me out in case I'm missing something but I believe you can get exactly 29 seeds before killing any shard bearers, just one shy of maxing your flask before beating any major bosses:
1 as a starting gift, 8 in Limgrave (includes Stormveil), 1 in Siofra, 5 in Liurnia, 3 in Caelid (the fourth one requires Radahn to be dead, so it's out), 6 in Altus and Mt. Gelmir and finally the 5 listed first under Leyndell.
And before someone mentions it, getting to Mohgwyn early is impossible because Varre doesn't move to Rose Church until after you've gotten a Great Rune.
I'm hoping I missed one somewhere because I'm so close to maxing my flask before any remembrance bosses.

mandela effect. i swear at release it was 15 flasks at max like ds3 but now its 14

Under Leyndell, for the one N of Avenue Balcony, this direciton makes no sense to me:
"From the site, turn left and drop down, then enter a door."
Left? From facing which direction? What door??? You get to this tree spirit by going down the stairs from the SOG, out a door, turning right, running to the end of the walkway, hopping over the railing to drop down, going forward a bit, and turning left and crossing the bridge across the sewer.
The 2 video links at the end of the Leyndell section both refer to seeds already listed in that section. I would fix that by moving the links to the seeds they refer to, but I don't know how to move video links (I tried and it only moved the text "video link" and not the actual link). If I find the time, I'll look it up. But meanwhile, if anyone else could take the time to do that, it would be appreciated. The first one goes to the Avenue Balcony one, and the second goes to the one by West Rampart SOG.
I'll see what I can do to make the Avenue Balcony text make more sense. Reminder to everyone: This wiki belongs to us all, so if you see a mistake, something missing, or even something that could be worded or punctuated better, please feel free to fix it! That's how wikis work. They should keep improving all the time as the community works together. :D

Haha and here i am thinking 120hr. Later you only need 1 per extra flask did they change it after the game was realesed ?!
- Anonymous
I had to give five seeds to get 5 + 8 flasks. I did start with the golden seed memento though... Does that push everything up by one?
- Anonymous
Would be cool if you could use extra seeds to upgrade something
- Anonymous
Golden Seed outside Ordina, Liturgical Town just SW of the site of grace.
- Anonymous
Would be neat if we could use the leftover seeds as like a Seed of a Tree of Giants or something
- Anonymous
What’s the maximum number that can be *missed* in one playthrough?

You have shared dangerous information with me Kenneth will be cooked soon mashallah

There's a Golden Seed inside Stormhill Shack after Roderika leaves.
- Anonymous
Do note that there are 2 Seeds in Mohgwyn Palace, but if you want both, you need to pick them up without reloading the area after picking one of them - so either rush both, or clear the area and than take both.
- Anonymous
Those two in Ainsel River section are actually in Lake of Rot section (hidden Ulcerated Tree) and Nokstella section (NW, after elevator).
There are 45, 30 needed for upgrades, 44 if you don't kill Kenneth before he moves with Nepheli and Gostoc, 43 if you reload the Mohgwyn Palace after picking one of two Seeds there, 42 if you didn't take the Keepsake in the beginning. And some seem to be missable if you don't pick them up in normal Leyndell before it becomes Ashen Leyndell.
- Anonymous
So what's the total/maximum number of Golden Seeds per playthru (not including the Keepsake)?
- Anonymous
I really hope we are getting a vendor that seeks Golden Seeds, Sacred Tears and Starlight Shards in exchange for unique weapons, armor, Ashes Of War, spells and novelty items only avalaible from this vendor. Maybe also the ancient level smithing and somber stones for 20 Golden Seeds each for example so we will always have a reason to collect these items and keep playing NG+!
- Anonymous
Someone please correct my count, but it would seem there are, then, 45 Golden Seeds available during a single playthrough if the player chooses one at the beginning of the game, yes?
- Anonymous
I would love it if you can plant your own erdtrees, feeding them runes to get bigger and they give you some kind of hidden tips or mechanics when they get big enough.
similar to Tree of wisdom in plants vs zombies.
- Anonymous
I think they need to make a housing system for the extra seeds, where you can plant a forest of little erdtrees to decorate your plot of land and allow for dueling there to show off your little miniature map design while killing people, as Elden lords do.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Right now I have 5 of the healing flasks and it will not let me upgrade to 6 with only one golden seed - it says it needs 2. What am I missing?
- Anonymous
Am I correct in assuming they carry over to NG+ since you can hold 99 of them or no?
- Anonymous
I kind of hope FS adds something to use the extra seeds for later in a future DLC. Cause right now I got a bunch just sitting there taking up space. Perhaps give us a shiny weapon if we collect them all?
- Anonymous
aso sorry a moderator approve the post. sorry thanks for the wiki

Question: Is this fixed? I got two Golden Seeds but it only gives me two extra flask. Not eight.
- Anonymous
You should be able to use a golden seed as an item to restore health like a life gem from DS2, or even better make a new health item like the warming stone except you can throw it like a ruin fragment / firebomb. Since they're a key item maybe make a shop like the dragon communion alter that will trade gold seeds for these health items, but they have a cap of 3 on your character like the raw meat dumplings or even just 1 so people cant really dupe them.
- Anonymous
14 is such a weird number... I would have preferred 10, 12, 15, or 16. It bothers me immensely
- Anonymous
I don't mind the flask cap (it's really more than you need if allocate them based on the situation). That said, really do wish I could do something with the extra seeds. I feel like maybe golden runes could have been slightly less abundant in return for allowing you to trade the seeds in at the round table for runes once you've reached max flasks.
- Anonymous
There is a Golden Seed not listed that is directly south of Seethewater Cave in Mt. Gelmir. It is in the same crevice that Patches pushes you into.
- Anonymous
Really should have been 20 flasks especially since in late game everything is 2 shotting you with 40 vig.

Missing two golden seeds in Liurnia: one by Yura's summon sign (to invade a bloody finger) and one at the ravine-veiled village.
- Anonymous
Found one at Mogwhyn Palace that i do not see listed here.
at the location where you obtain the somber ancient dragon smithing stone, go behind this structure and youll see a drop off point
you will also find a golden rune 13 here (i dont remember which) on a dead body.
peak slightly over the edge and youll see another body with an item, that is a Golden Seed
- Anonymous
Too many Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears to mess with...should give an NPC the ability to trade any extra for Rune Arcs/Dragon Smithing Stones/Great Gloveworts/ and an option to change Torrent's appearance or even better, upgrade the damn goat's poise level.
- Anonymous
You can max out your flasks by only killing 2 of the worm tree spirits probably less, all the other ones can be found in the world.

- Anonymous
there is also 1 at the base of the ravine-veiled village in liurnia, right near the grace. i don't see it included anywhere on here.

I have 10 extra seeds with max flasks and I'm not even finished with the snow area, this feels like a punishment on deep exploration just to favor some arbitrary PVP flask number in a 99.9% PVE game in which I already have 200 hours on a single solo playthrough, I'm starting to think PVP was a mistake in these games, especially after seeing all the nerfs on player ability and no nerfs on 20K HP enemies that can 2 hit KO you while you do chip damage, like what would be the problem if I could have 15 or even 16 flasks?
- Anonymous
Does anyone know what the last one in the Caelid section is even referring to? There's no chest even marked near there on the map.
- Anonymous
They really should give some way to make surplus useful , once you have 14 flasks, let them be sellable/useable for a chunk of runes or let an npc trade you rune arcs for them.

I don't know how many seeds there are in one playthrough, but I have 13 extra seeds at 14 flasks and I didn't use the keepsake, so there must be at least a few missing from this list.

The fact that you don't have to mandatorily kill a single Ulcerated Tree Spirit to get max flasks is just great. Extremely useful on repeat playthroughs if you don't want to bother with them.

I’m one of those OCD levelers that always focuses on leveling stats to end with either a 0 or a 5, so this whole 14 flasks (with a +12 max upgrade) is so painfully random to me.

I thought that my game had glitched...
Why is 14 the maximum in this game instead of 15?
- Anonymous
Great that the game does not tell you that you need multiple seeds from a certain point on... I thought I encountered a game breaking bug...
There are at least 11 more Seeds than you need to fully upgrade your flask. There may be more (and Im not counting the starting gift and killing Kenneth Haight).

are there more seeds than upgrades available for flasks? im max flasks and im still finding more seeds

1 drop by Ulcerated Tree Sprit in Giant's Mountaintop Catacombs

Roderika can either Drop a Seed inside the Shack after she relocates to the Roundtable, or if you actually talk to her for her dialogue she will give it to you herself as a thank you in exchange for REDACTED FOR SPOILERS.

There is a Golden Seed from a Golden Tree between The Ravine and Ravine-Veiled Village graces.
There are more than this list says there are. Unfortunately I never wrote them down. I am still on my first playthrough with a max upgraded flask and I have 9 extra seeds in my inventory. (I still have the entire Haligtree tree area to explore as well as a little bit of Crumbling Farum. (and the tree itself whatever is in there). So I imagine I can get a couple more.

The wiki is wrong. There isn’t one at Callu Church. It’s a sacred tear. Now a seed.

RE: South of Callu Baptismal Church, on the other side of the giant wall.
Why would you say that, when there's a visible, large wall on the map, that is closer than the actual wall referred to? There's even a nearer PoG, as well as a road passing near, and other landmarks visible on the map that could be used.
A less stupid way to explain the location of this seed is "Southwest of Castle Morne Rampart, Northwest of the poison bog visible as a green pond on the map, slightly west of the road, next to a very large piece of rubble, at the bottom of a glowing tree."
Or just "Slightly west of the road southwest from Castle Morne Rampart PoG," if brevity's your thing.

there's also the seed on the bridge leading to the main entrance of the academy. it might only be accessible after helping yura, not sure though

One at the end of Nosktella, from the chamber where you get the Moon Of Nosktella tallisman go to through the entrance on the south wall, down some rocks and take the elevator down to a little section overseeing the river. Tree with a golden seed is there.

At caelid, after you defeated radahn, head to the extreme north of the vast desert, you will found a hidden cave. Inside there is a putried tree spirit boss, it will drop a golden seed.

why 14? Not that I need 15 flasks, but 15 feels so much more like a natural stopping point.
