Hand-to-Hand Arts are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring. Hand-to-Hand Arts are similar or a variant of the Fist Weapons, adding multiple quick moves that the player will be able to perform by using only their body as a weapon.
Hand-to-Hand Arts can be modified by a select number of Ashes of War to change their Skills or Damage Type, so play around with them and see what you like.
The Palm Blast and Dryleaf Whirlwind skills are unique to this weapon class.
Hand-to-hand Arts are naturally paired weapons, meaning when inputting to two-hand these weapons, your character will instead equip a second, duplicate weapon in their off-hand.
This weapon class debuts in Shadow of the Erdtree, and is not present in the base game.
Note: Patch 1.13 Increased poise damage of normal attacks with Hand-to-Hand Arts (in PVP).
Note: Patch 1.14 Increased the attack speed of the uncharged version of the first heavy attack. Increased damage. Shortened the recovery time between some normal attacks and follow-up attacks.

I prefer Danes footwork for a faster final attack in the r1 combo and benefiting better from the shattered stone talisman and the divine bird warrior greaves
- Anonymous
If you're trying to figure out if there's a big damage difference between Keen and Heavy, it's not that big of a deal. With two builds focused on a 60-25 investment into STR & DEX and vice versa, it's only a difference of about 2 damage in Heavy's favor.

These and beast claws are my favorite weapons. So happy they gave us these ! Feeling like some dbz character up in here lol..the skills are also the most fun ever
- Anonymous
What I always wanted from fists, these are way more fun & versatile
- Anonymous
Sad they can't be buffed, would be way cooler to lifesteal with your bare hand instead of weapons, but without buff useless for my build.
- Anonymous
Which one would be better for a Neo from the Matrix cosplay build? I was thinking drylead arts, as it has a good mix of the hands and feet, and felt it would be more accurate to the movie.
These things rock. Just slap the R2 (heavy kicks) and experiment with your fav skills and playstyle. It can't be parried and is also lightning fast, it can even easily catch rolls (at least med load confirmed). I obliterated many DLC bosses (haven't reached Radahn because I take my time to savor) and frequently won in Colosseum. Katana wielders, colossal, and poking sticks are my fav opponents; they think they'd easily W and safe from my kicks and slaps. Their weapons are also so slow to swing or poke (more reaction time).
- Anonymous
These are probably the most fun weapons in the game if you ask me. Also really strong in PvP, but requires just enough skill to use.
- Anonymous
Powerstancing the two seems to just do the dryleaf art moveset no matter what hand when I press L1.
- Anonymous
would have been really cool if they made a blade weapon on your feet (veterans prosthesis) with this moveset or a similar one more kick focused
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Using these with deflect tear gives me more dopamine than anything in life fr
- Anonymous
I wish we could've got a heavy version based off Hoarah Loux's moveset. Dark Souls 2 had the Bone Fist that shook the ground and had an uppercut and a tetsuzanko if you two-handed it.
- Anonymous
Anyone has the numbers following today's damage buff for these weapons ?
- Anonymous
Rev up those’s friers! We got a 9/11 update and a got hand to hand buff!
- Anonymous
No rot affinity exists, yet both of these can be given the Poison Flower Blooms Twice ash. The posion affinity DOES exist, but neither of these can be given the Poison Moth Flight ash. This means Bleed Claws remain the only option for close quarters status builds. A crying shame.
- Anonymous
When it comes to martial arts, the implementation is limitless. If these appear in a future title, I'd love to have a bunch more with different unique movesets for each one, unlikely as that is. Even then, having unique ones with elements beyond infusions (actually having colorful effects) would be insanely cool. I'd give these the Most Promising award.

I haven't seen anyone mention that they only weigh 1 Miyazaki, which (I think?) is the lightest weapon that will accept endure. That makes it great for a soft swap choice while letting you where slightly heavier armor.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
They need to improve speed. They are too slow for a hand to hand art. I want the Bruce Lee speed atack.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Can you parry the running R2? I haven't tried but I do get the feeling that you can't since you use your feet to hit with
- Anonymous
I don't really understand the implementation of these weapons. They have the lowest attack rating of just about anything in the game and nothing to make up for it; they're not particularly fast (compared to fists and claws), have no innate status like claws do, don't do any noticeable poise damage and have a shockingly low array of compatible AoWs. Worst of all, the martial art movements don't even look that cool. Even with all the right talismans and perfect setup, these are still completely underwhelming compared to anything else you could be using. What's the point?
- Anonymous
I found something interesting here. If you use the Godskin nouble gloves, this weapon becomes invisible. And it looks good. I recommend it for those who don’t like steel mittens
- Anonymous
these accept ashes of war: kick, endure, ground slam, hoarah loux's earthshaker, war cry, barbaric roar, braggarts roar, quickstep, bloodhounds step, raptor of the mists, beasts roar, storm stomp, flame of the redmanes, blinkbolt, lightning ram, golden slam, golden vow, the poison flower blooms twice, hoarfrost stomp, divine beast frost stomp, lifesteal fist, white shadows lure, shriek of sorrow, palm blast, and dryleaf whirlwind

No capoeria,sad.
At least we got the muai thai keyboard warrior
- Anonymous
Both of these should be sped up to at least match the speed of fist weapons. At the moment these do considerably less damage while also being a bit slower.
- Anonymous
Man i miss the energie ball you could make with the bone fist i wish there was something similar in elden ring with the hand to hand arts
Like many others I was really excited for this weapon class, shame there's only two of them in the DLC. How hard would it be to recycle some animations from Sekiro to make some new variants and AOW?
- Anonymous
I imagine a Hand-to-Hand Art similar to Muay Thai or kickboxing, or similar to Taekwondo.

Was really hoping these would be low-base, high-scaling monsters that would perform best on physical to incentivize Blue Dancer Charm builds. Instead their damage is so generally low that they are best with elemental or status affinities for talisman/buff stacking. Bone Fist, these are not! RIP 20 base damage + S dexterity scaling.
- Anonymous
these weapon's poise damage is broken for pvp, it should be doing about twice as much poise damage
- Anonymous
these weapons are bugged at the moment, they should have a higher poise damage multiplier for pvp making them do similar poise damage as the claws weapon type, however fromsoft has forgotten to add this multiplier for some reason. they should do about double the amount of poise damage they do at the moment
- Anonymous
What about a Boxing-like Hand-to-Hand Art like those from untitled boxing game.
- Anonymous
Kinda disappointing this is all we get,
i thought we would have been able to find and duel several martial artists across the dlc to learn their techniques.
kinda like the ever goals in base game.
- Anonymous
Kinda think it'd be cool to have a hand to hand casting seal. Would it be balanced? Idk but the fist monk would go even harder
- Anonymous
We should be admiring fromsoft for their strength of will to not add a large faith requirement to these and add in the description: "Martial arts are a technique from the monks of the land of reeds. They found that practicing hand-to-hand combat was a brilliant meditative tool."
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Considering what beast claws and hand-to-hand is supposed to be it's weird that something representing going feral somehow is more mobile and evasive than martial arts.
- Anonymous
disappointed that there wasn't a hand to hand art that basically let you act like a mini version of Horah Loux, Warrior, i dont even care if it would have been an obscure more pvp oriented hand to hand art with highly telegraphed grapples, it just feels like a massive fumble on from soft's part
- Anonymous
This thing scales insanely with bleed, poison, etc. Really good for arcane builds
- Anonymous
the low damage would be fine if they were scaling monsters like they should be
- Anonymous
Wish they let you infuse with Parry ashes. Proper martial arts vibes
- Anonymous
Was running a frenzey flame pyromacer. This plus the frenzey flame seal, and my arsenal weights a grand total of 1.
I get light roll pretty much for free, for a very versatile character.
- Anonymous
Hand to hand adds a new level of get good
10/10 would recommend trying them
- Anonymous
Ok I tried, I really tried
I was si hyped with the trailer, really wanted to try this karate weapon.
I went blind in the dlc, didn't want spoiler . After a dozen hours, still not finding those I started to worry and looked up a guide (thank god I would never had'found it without)
Now that I've tried it... It's underwhelming, to Say the least.
Beastial claws are better in every way, also easier to Come across.. also reverse dagger or whatever it's called
I really, REALLY, want to like it
But it's just not really good
- Anonymous
You’re probably better off using anything else, but damn is the style good
- Anonymous
It’s hard for me to find these useful considering the low amount of damage they do compared to the exorbitantly high health bars of bosses. Poise damage is great, I guess.
- Anonymous
This should be added in the base game, starting a new game woth them.
- Anonymous
So basically every R2 does double poise damage? Am I reading that right?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I wish these had better dex scaling, as it stands it has lower dex scaling on keen than the caestus, which was never great scaling to start with. Strength got the beast claws, let dex have these.

Shame we have only 2 ,They could literally copy paste sekiro’ senpu arts like high monk to the game and I would be more than happy
- Anonymous
As of right now, judging by the MV Spreadsheet it seems that Dane's Footwork is a direct upgrade to Dryleaf Arts. The only difference between the two seems to be poise damage, and the footwork has higher poise damage since the kick attacks 6 compared to the palms 4
- Anonymous
the fact that we only get two, that are almost identical, and zero elemental ones or differing varieties, even with things like madding hand and poison hand, is extremely dissapointing.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
If only the poison and maddening hand were in this category too instead of just plain fist weapons

hope they fix the backstep r1 when 2 handing these, as you can't turn around like you do with every other weapon

I LOVE how many physical damage buffs these can be stacked with. Axe Talisman, Claw Talisman, Winged Sword Talismans/Milicent's Prosthesis, Shard of Alexander, and Shattered Stone can all find homes on builds. Throw Swaddling Cloth in there for good measure. In fact there's almost too many, which I think is a great problem to have. It helps immensely that strike damage is arguably the best physical damage type. Genuinely, if FromSoft has any plans for future DLC (though I doubt they do), then elemental hand-to-hand is near the top of my wish list. Like, come on: Fire fists, Stormcaller kicks, Ghostflame, the list goes on.
- Anonymous
theres 2 of these and im willing to bet while theres no difference in stats they have the exact same moveset
- Anonymous
Everyone was calling these dex weapons before the DLC even dropped only for it to turn out that both of them get an A in STR.... guess I gotta respec now
- Anonymous
They must have the worst riposte multiplier in the game.
The riposte does as much damage as like 2 r1s,so try to spam charged heavy or weapon art when you down an enemy instead
- Anonymous
i forgot ranni's set only works with sorceries, so i made a frostbite ninja ranni cosplay thinking it'd scale the cold infusion, and now that i remember how things work it's too funny to switch to something that actually works. kung fu jumpkick ranni is the second funniest build i have ever seen only after the almighty lightning ram. highly recommended

They couldve made more hand to hand weapons like the madding hand or poison fist but nah

I was so excited for these new weapon types, until I saw how few weapons there are per new category. Of all the new weapon types, Hand-to-Hand was the one that I was most excited for, and also the one that got stiffed the hardest. What do you mean there's only 2 Hand-to-Hand weapons, who are both kind of similar, and one of them you literally can't get until right before the final boss of the game?? Why?

You should use this with Godfrey and Alexander talisman, with 600 AR I dealt 3k+ DMG, and with rotten wing insignia I dealt 4k+ in a combo, The double charged attack also deal nice poise DMG thanks to powerstance which is only available for fists and claws when using heavy attacks
- Anonymous
These need more poise damage.
Takes far too many heavy attacks in a row to stagger anything.
I test my poise damage builds against the golems outside the Lift of Dectus ... The halberd Golem is 2/3 dead before the first poise break.
Really under-whelming imo. I wanted to love these.

These could've been fist weapons just like how cleavers are axes, that eight weapon types thing is a marketing stunt lmao. I'm not judging these TWO weapons, they're great actually. But when you say there's an entire new weapon class coming about hand to hand combat my expectations included different kinds, no such thing is here.
- Anonymous
mid damage? screw that! I finally got my cool martial art fist weapon since bone fist from ds2!
- Anonymous
Was super hype for this weapon so I made a fist only character and used the star fists for most of the base game. Got the Dryleaf arts and was a bit disappointed. This weapon class is probably okay, it's just that the fist does wayyyy more damage in comparison. They probably work better for bleed build that pure strength
- Anonymous
For those complaining about the lack of variety, remember "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." - Bruce Lee

kinda sad. was planning on making my entire builds on hand to hand but these both are pretty mid.
- Anonymous
There is only two of these for anyone wondering. It's sad but atleast they exist as an option
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
rocking this, the goldmask top, and rennala's pants for my Juri cosplay build
- Anonymous
damage is a lil disappointing imo and compared to spiked caestus and star fists, not only does it lack innate status, it can't be buffed with weapon buffs i.e. flaming strike, bloodflame blade while having weaker damage than the two fist weapons mentioned
the moveset is sick though and the default ash hits like a truck and has hyperarmor
overall i like it for regular enemies, but for bosses it doesn't have much going for it over fist weapons
I hope these become a staple in future Fromsoft Soulslike-games. Would be cool if we got more based on real-world martial arts!
