Light Greatswords are a type of Weapon in Elden RingLight Greatswords are as long as greatswords but far lighter allowing the wielder to have quicker attacks at the cost of damage.

Light Greatswords can be modified by a number of Ashes of War to change their Skills or Damage Type, so play around with them and see what you like.

This is one of the 8 new weapon types available in Shadow of the Erdtree, and is not present in the base game.

It can make good use of the twinblade talisman if you're using it one handed, R2 -> R1 -> R1 is a very fast combo finisher

Rellana's Twin Blades finishes even faster with R2 -> R1

      • Anonymous

This weapon class has a unique ability to chain light attacks into the 2ND heavy attack combo

1h -> Light, Light, Light, Heavy
        2h -> Light, Light, Heavy

Probably not very useful in PvE, but could be used as a mix-up in PvP

        • Anonymous

Ledas sword might as well not exist given how far into dlc it is, and Rellanas twin blades are dual wield, so if you want to 2h Milady is only real choice.

          • Anonymous

Really? just the 3? And of course there's only boss/cool options for 2 ****ing builds. Where'd the love for EVERYTHING go i feel like now holy and magic (magic since basegame) are just getting that major hawk tooah while everyone else suffers

            • Anonymous

I dont love the R1s on theese, they feel like a thrusting sword. Rest of the moveset is quite cool though, but they need some serious buffs to poisedamage in PvP

              • Anonymous

The DLC is great but the lack of new weapons sucks and yes I know most of the new weapons are added in the old classes.

                • Anonymous

A lot of speed, decent damage, I'd say great range and long strings of hits but no poise damage at all? Didn't stagger any bosses or even normal mobs with those

                  • Anonymous

A little bit dissapointed there's only three of these. Milady one would look better with a crossguard on it. Weirdly enough, that one works better paired with a shield and not two-handing them. Guard counters are great, fast and look beautiful, they can be followed up with and R1 for a third slash. Feels like a bloodborne weapon.

                    • Also known as True Greatswords. I mean think about it would real life Greatswords be as heavy and difficult to handle, as the ones we got before Shadows of the Erdtree dropped?

                      • Anonymous

So... These are great. I've found two out of the three light Greatsword's so far since I haven't gotten terribly far into the dlc, but I ADORE the moveset. It's almost fighting game-like, especially the r2/r1. It's so elegant and speedy, but packs a whallop at the same time, they're so so fun. Use these! Please!

There’s Great Katanas, Back Hand Blades, and these and They’re all Dex
                          Strength Has NO Love. :(

                          • Anonymous

I watched a demonstration of all the DLC weapons' playstyles and I love the way the light great sword attacks, the twirly character animations. it's so cute

                            • Anonymous

The Stagger is low like a Katana. No Bleed, more White Damage but no Nagakiba Range. The heavy AoW can be very powerful with Rellana Talisman and reach 2K DMG easy with Shard of Alexander. The Light AoW 3Hit Combo can be Suicide against Knights/Shields who Guard Counter Smash you when locked in a 3Hit combo chain.
The first attack from the combo can easy miss because enemies can use longer range weapons and you cant connect the first hit. The AoW is more specials than the Weapon itself.

Why do they stagger as if they are a dagger? Even curved swords can stun better than them lol. Still very fun to use though.

Honestly, new most GOATed weapon type in the game. I have a feeling we'll be seeing way more light greatswords in future FromSoft games...

Have a feeling these are gonna be horrible to fight against in pvp but damn do they look way too cool to complain

milady is going to be the bloodhound fang of the dlc, all the normie streamers and "casual" (tourist) gamers are gonna plow through the whole dlc with it and not explore a damn thing

I'm guessing they will feel similar to twinblades; similar damage and speed with multi-hits. I'm just hoping hit-stop doesn't feel as bad with these.

                                          • Anonymous

I wonder who drops Milady. Or is it going to be found in a chest, in the middle of a lava lake, underneath a poison swamp, guarded by Godrick's Knight.

                                            • Anonymous

How exactly is this a dex weapon when +25 keen infused gets B scaling in DEX? This is clearly a quality weapon

                                              • Anonymous

Can we please fix the 2 handed stance for the straightswords that carried over to light greatswords already? Dude holds a sword like hes carrying a branch.

                                                • Anonymous

Kind of annoys me that some dudes have been claiming your character uses these like actual swords. The moveset is just fancy, not realistic. You can immediately see that the R1 chain includes a spin where your character turns their back towards the opponent. You'd never do this in real combat because it'd be suicide. Funnily enough, Wolf also does this in Sekiro. Fromsoft doesn't know how swords were used and they don't care either.

                                                  • Anonymous

These might be what Katanas are for Curved swords since Katanas have always had one of the more realistic move sets in Souls and feel heavier than a Curved Sword Yet lighter than a Curved-Greatsword!

                                                    Yey or ney

                                                    • Anonymous

These should look similar to heavy thrusting swords in terms of length and 'blade' thickness but they swing and have edges; their model size and hitbox would be very close. From a distance if 2 handed I would imagine it would be hard to tell them apart. Their weight range would be the same so maybe 6.5 units of weight to 9.5 units?

                                                      • Anonymous

I love how the moveset looks similar to how you'd actually swing a greatsword, and not just slamming it down on the ground each swing

                                                        • Anonymous

So from what we've seen in the gameplay footage, this has the reach of greatswords, but are far faster, though not as fast as straight swords. They will presumably do damage in between the two and have a unique stanced Ash of War, which allows you to either do a strong piercing lunge, or a fast 3 hit chain. But the best thing about these weapons is the moveset. It is beautiful. A perfectly flowing attack chain, mixing piercing attacks and wide slashes at a perfect speed. The guard counter is a two hit combo and you can seemingly combo attacks from almost any angle. I'm seriously looking forward to these, definitely check them out on June 21

                                                          • Anonymous

This is the one I'm most excited for, since I main greatswords but always thought they were a bit slow. I just hope they do more damage than straight swords, I'm going to need more than just a bit of extra reach.

                                                            • Anonymous

"They are going to be dex weapons!" "No they are going to be quality!" The game has been out for more than 2 years and this discussion is still alive as if some people still haven't figured out that infusions are way more important than base stats. Base scaling barely matters when you infuse a weapon. And if you are running standard infusion please for the love of god put something better on your weapon.

                                                              • Anonymous

Don't worry, even if they initially scale with dex, they'll still be better on strength builds due to broken infusion system and 2H bonus.

                                                                • Anonymous

Do you like the basic swords in lies of P !? well now you can with the light great swords Everyone can unanimously agree that these could (and should) be called dueling swords but this fast weapon with a multi hit move set lets everyone wonder, how many hits will dual wielding do!?

                                                                  • Miyazaki I know youre reading this. Add a weapon called the "Moreclay" and give it the claymore thrusting attacks and the new light greatsword movement and my life is yours

                                                                    • Anonymous

This sounds like dream come true, I like large swords but normal greatswords are basically bladed sledge hammers in terms of moveset in From's games

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

The move set on these weapons is like if you got to play as Malenia I mean the fluidity looks unlike any other souls game, I can't thank John Elden ring and Hidetaka Miyazaki for allowing us to move freely through enemies while we remove them from the land of shadows.

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                  F&CK YES!

                                                                                    • Anonymous

so all the new weapons are dlc only right? they're not going to throw one into the base game so you can use them out if you make a new char? kinda sad if so
