Smithscript Shield is a Small Shield in Elden Ring. It is a brand new Small Shield in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Smithscript Shield is a Shield that scales primarily with Strength,  Intelligence and Faith. Small Shields usually weigh very little and has the least form of protection from attacks. They are often used by players who prefer Parrying rather than Blocking. Its lighter weight also makes it ideal for quick, agile characters with low equipment weight capacity.

Roundshield engraved with a smithscript. A throwing weapon created through the smithing arts. Can be thrown by performing the armament's Skill.

Where to Find Smithscript Shield in Elden Ring

The Smithscript Shield can be found at the following location:

  • Taylew's Ruined Forge: Jump from the opening left to the lever, and instead of heading forward turn left. There are two Golem Smiths there, one that uses fire. Once defeated, stick to the right and go up to the upper platform using the crumbled column. You will find the item at the end of the hallway. Beware of the fire blob that falls from the ceiling.  [See Shadow of the Erdtree Map] [Video Location]

Doing a for the LOLZ run and the tracking of this cookie is bonkers. Just killed golden hippo and when i casted the frisbee hippo jumped besides me, frisbee did a 180° turn into hipopotamus bottoxus. Tracking of doom.

I learned way too late that input-reading enemies dodge when you throw the shield but not when the shield flies towards them. This thing is rad as hell.

This finally made me drop my parry shield for the first time since Demon's Souls. I also leveled Int and Faith to use it.

          In the end, Miyazaki won.

Aka, the physical discuss of light. Weird that a shield is the best of the thrown weapons, but hey, I can't argue with the results.

            • Anonymous

Currently thriving in the grace period where nobody uses or respects this thing after the nerf and I'm just having a blast with it. Seriously, the damage you can put out with this thing is no joke for 3, count it, THREE FP. No, you can't keep wizards from spamming sorceries or healing to full with an incant, but the total lack of poise damage has given this thing a hidden strength: IT'S A KILLER COMBO TOOL. Crazy as it sounds people will just kinda... ignore this thing hitting them up close?? It must be the effect poise has on some people where "if I didn't stagger, I can keep going" despite my shield being lodged firmly into the back of your skull. Very good stuff.

              • Anonymous

I feel betrayed by all the people calling this the "captain america shield"; picked it up and turns out it's about the size of an actual frisbee. Why couldn't it have been a medium shield?

                • Anonymous

Fromsoft dude which came up with this should fight three people spamming this for like a day.

And, if seriously, this should be his (their) literal f'ing job. Maybe then we would have less stuff like that in the game.

                  • Anonymous

My fellow strength-enjoying invaders, now we can comically stun the wizards/casters in the gank squad.
However, remain honorable - one must not use this against a single opponent.
If the dishonest wizard can spam projectiles and still have incredible melee options, it is only fair for us to have something to level the playing field.

                    • Anonymous

Another L2 spammers crutch. When will fromsoft learn to stop catering to these braindead morons. It's easy to dodge but they don't care, it's so cheap they just spam it and drag on a fight.

I never used parry in this game so this may be a stupid question, can you even parry with this when you cant change the AoW?

The tracking and range on this is absolutely insane. I’m not going to be one of those babies who cries for every weapon that kills them in PvP to be nerfed, but don’t be surprised if I close game on you if you start winging these at me from across the arena.

"eeeueghueh it's so good against mages >:)))" fool that you are. you have become the very thing you despise. you can't even stop yourself from spamming it against other melee fighters. you laugh as they roll and hide behind pillars and wonder what they hell they are supposed to do while you relentlessly throw your shitscript shield at them. you even put points into your intelligence to wield it. pathetic. you are not made in giant dad's image and He will not welcome you

I killed a DLC ghost flame dragon pretty effectively just whipping this thing at its head. 64/64 quality build. Would take Somber stone #10 again.

"just block it!!" ok. But he can throw this thing infinite times. Am I supposed to just sit here and block until he decides to give up???

I love using this shield. it’s so balanced and useful in pvp, until it’s used against me, then its unfair and broken and I hate it

                                        • Anonymous

not broken, mages/casters are just mad that they can't just stand still and spam. as for the melee players that are complaining they are prob just play way to passive and only looking to whiff punish. unbelievable easy to dodge can be blocked with just about any shield plus physical block is always the high if not 100%.

If you want revenge, you can spam this shields L2 on fire knights in the shadow keep and every hit will stagger them for a second. Rather than those flame serpent spamming idiots just locking you out of approaching, now you can lock them down forever. Teach them how it feels.

                                            • Anonymous

Anyone in PvP that is having trouble fighting it: Shields with 100% phys neg WILL invalidate the L2 spam in its entirety (on the note of stamina consumption, I usually run with 40 End & Wolf Crest and I haven't had a problem blocking a volley so far). Even without one, the mid-air delay is rather easy to get down with some practice. Just let them get the throw out, wait till its mid-air then role towards them.

This shield is great for so many builds, it’s amazing in both pvp & pve for applying pressure and damage against enemies in so many different situations.
Shard of Alexander & Smithing Talisman work well with this, add Blessed Blue Dew Talisman and you’ll have FP like no tomorrow.

Mages probably can benefit most from this with the crazy low fp cost. 60 mind pays off again. Now pour in your downvotes fools muahahaha

Anyone ever watch that show "The Head" from the late 90s. There was a guy with a big sheet of metal stuck in his head. Makes me think of throwing this shield and seeing the enemy turn around with a dinner plate stuck in his skull. 10/10 fun factor!

                                                      • Anonymous

This thing is fantastic! Running a DOUBLE throw build! This can take out enemies at a distance and I have the axe to blast em at close range. These are so fun!! The little sound effect is the icing on the cake!

                                                        • Anonymous

This thing is so strong! I upgraded this to +25 and for some reason it can stun the Black Knights in the DLC with just one AoW? It also deals like 1200 dmg geez. Good weapon, can recommend with smithscript spear. You can throw one spear and immediately do the AoW to essentially throw two weapons in combination for a pretty hefty chunk. Used smith Talisman to get some good results out of this.

                                                          • Anonymous

At 50 Strength, 60 Faith and 25 Dex, this outperforms my Discus of Light if the Disks only hit once. Even if they hit twice, it is just 30 more damage or so. Also, the Shield has a great homing effect and hits enemies in motion that I could only dream of killing with the disks. I've basically turned into a discjockey all around but I'm not entirely sure why this thing is so strong though.

                                                            • Anonymous

The fact that it is so cheap you can run Blessed Blue Dew Talisman and essentially get your next one ready while you are throwing one is wild to me.

                                                              • Anonymous

I use this when I invade into a lobby with 3 players cause they never 1v1, if they do 1v1 I don't use it, tbh baiting invaders and being scummy fighting 3v1 this shield is a perfect response.

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

Best range out of any smithscript weapon, best tracking out of any, the delay, good damage, very cheap FP and stamina cost. This thing is borderline broken and is impossible to avoid in combination with Smithscript Cirque in PVP. Yes, you can roll both attacks, but your opponent can just keep spamming it until you run out of stamine or just delay a bit. If you only roll one of the two you either get hit by the shield that is in the air or by the Cirque that was thrown after the shield. I know PVP is not the main focus of this game and never was, but this DLC just completely destroyed it with the amount of new completely counter-less items they have added.

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

The nerf was enough. The shield is not op and mages still have the best ranged attacks that deal more damage. The range is short and no more status ****ery. Finally something nice and effective for strength bros in PVP

Shame this is sort of a STR weapon. Pairing it with a main hand STR weapon feels counter-intuitive because of the 2handing bonus STR gets. Ideally youd want to use 1 hand and throw this thing regularly
