Brass Shield is a Medium Shield in Elden Ring. The Brass Shield is a Shield that scales primarily with Strength. Medium Shields feature a good balance between defense and weight, which is great for most situations in combat. Although it may not be as light as a Small Shield which is good for agility and parrying, the Standard Shield works best at reducing damage and blocking.

On the larger side for medium-sized shield, the face has been
covered in brass.

Commonly employed in the Shattering.

Where to Find Brass Shield in Elden Ring

The Brass Shield Shield can be found at the following locations:

Dropped by Godrick Soldiers seen to be carrying it. (In 231 kills, 2 dropped. Approx. 0.8%)
Dropped by Raya Lucaria Soldiers seen to be carrying it.
An easy early location to farm begins at the “Gatefront” Site of Grace in the western part of main Limgrave, just north of the forest and just before Stormgate. Once you spawn in, turn around to face south east. There will be four Brass Shield carrying Godrick Soldiers in the Gatefront Ruins area that should be relatively easy to farm. Two are in a small fenced in area to the right of the road. One is on the road, carrying a horn. The last one is sitting next to a fire nearby.
Nearly all the Raya Lucaria Soldiers who are gathered outside Raya Lucaria Academy are carrying one, making it a good place to farm for it if you missed getting it earlier.

This shield can be infused with Ashes of War and buffed with Magic and Consumables.
Sell Value: 100
Has the highest Guard Boost stat of all medium shields.
One of the top 3 most favored medium shields, the others perhaps being Banished Knight's Shield (68 guard boost, 6 weight) and Blue-Gold Kite Shield (66 boost, 5 weight). They even exceed some of the worse greatshields (Dragonclaw Shield, 67 boost, 13.5 weight, can't even change its ability). The brass is the strongest of the bunch, but perhaps not the most weight efficient, but the difference is only going to be by a point here or there anyways -- what's going to matter is the fact that you can Golden/Carian parry, and still have enough Boost to block.

  I used to think this shield seemed a tad OP, but I've changed my mind, now of the opinion it might've been better if you just didn't tend to come across it so early. It feels a bit crutchy using it early on, made me feel guilty and refused to use it lol.. Surely it's not just me? And don't get me wrong, it's not that I dont like it, but yeah been goin between Banished Knight's and Twinbird Kite for most part. Umbasa.

  For some reason, I am much worse at parrying with this compared to the Beast Crest Heater Shield while using Golden Parry. I'm aware the startup frames, active frames, and recovery frames are identical but I was wondering if there is a difference in the shape of the two shields' hitboxes(parry boxes) that is throwing off my timing, if that makes any sense. Has anyone else experienced this or is it all in my head?

  Compared to Beast Crest Heater Shield - Brass Shield 6 guard boost difference is worth is worth investing 3 poins of Endurance for it.

  On my first playthrough i got this shield immediately and it + guard countering carried me through the entire game. Now on my second playthrough im using every other med shield with carrian parry because parrying is a lot of fun but ill still love this shield.

  "0.8% drop rate" I'm pretty sure someone just had terrible luck. I'm pretty sure most if not all things dropped by soldiers are at 2% or 4% (don't remember which), but it's dropped enough for me that I refuse to believe that number.

  Interestingly, this shield with Barricade Ash has a HIGHER Guard Boost than the Fingerprint Shield with Barricade Shield. Barricade Shield multiplier is 0.5 with Small/Medium Shields, and only 0.7 with Great Shields.
  
  So, IF you use Barricade Shield Ash, then Brass Shield is your best option!

  Besides the fingerprint shield (which is pretty broken) this is the best all around shield in the game. Very low attribute and weight requirement. Guard boost is 90% of great shield level and it can parry.

  Perhaps one of, if not the best shield in the game. Sure, it’s got a hefty weight, but it’s also sporting super good elemental resistances and guard boost, so I’d say it’s worth it. At the end of the day, it’s basically a greatshield that weights just a bit more than a medium shield.

  Finally got one while farming the gatefront encampment at base arcane for Hero (11)
  In between that I got 8 straight swords, 2 war picks, 5 helmets, 9 surcoats, 5 gauntlets, 6 boots, and more bolts than I care to count

  One of the top 3 most favored medium shields, the others perhaps being Banished Knight (68 guard boost, 6 weight) and Blue-Yellow Kite (66 boost, 5 weight). They even exceed some of the worse greatshields (Draconclaw Greatshield, 67 boost, 13.5 weight, can't even change its ability). The brass is the strongest of the bunch, but perhaps not the most weight efficient, but the difference is only going to be by a point here or there anyways -- what's going to matter is the fact that you can Golden/Carian parry, and still have enough Boost to block.

  i farm two of these bad boys just so i can throw people off guard. two hand your weapon then use its WA, and swap to the other shield. it looks the exact same as going back to one handed and they wont expect you to then weapon art straight in their face whilst one handing.

  I'd really like to run this in a faith-based hybrid build, but was told that effective use makes barricade shield mandatory, and having the shield skill override my RH weapon art is a total pain for me.
  
  Is there a way to avoid the override?
  
  Alternatively, can it work suitably with "No Skill" kept on it?

  I've found a great farming spot at the 4th church of Marika. The mausoleum soldiers in front of it and the 3 walking down the road all carry this shield. I don't know if I've been insanely lucky or what, but I've gotten the shield within 5 kills both of the runs where I did it.

  Is this useful in pvp? I heard you can get more parryframes than a buckler with certain AoWs on which is neat. But I also want to know whether this could block some hits before being guardbroken. Maybe I can block the lights fairly and need to dodge the heavys... maybe only for parrying... Anyone using med-shield for pvp please, share wisdom!

  RIP sweet prince of a shield, you served so well for so long but 1.04 finally nerfed you to death. There is now no way to get to 100 guard boost with this shield, barricade + greatshield talisman even at +25 won't do it. This was the ticket for shield users without needing to spec a ton into strength, making a dex weapon + shield build viable.

  outclassed by the Blue-Gold Kite Shield IMO if youre concerned with min-maxing while needing a noteworthy blocking tool. 69 guard boost vs 65 of the Blue Gold Kite. 2 units heavier and 4 more strength required than the Blue Gold Kite.

  on the shield you can see the Elden Beast, from which six egg like things emerge. out of these come the six lords as droplets or at least it seems so. at the bottom of the shield is a heart shape which furthermore points to the Elden Beast as heart of the elden ring

  this at +25 standard let me block Malenia's entire water fowl move with 1/3 my stamina bar remaining. She engages, you press L1 and maintain until shes done.

  This is just a lore observation, but I noticed at the center of the shield has a centipede on it, and it's synonymous with golden order fundamentalists, but the cursemark of death is also symbolized by a centipede

  I'll echo much of the praise here. Arguably the ideal defensive package in terms of stability, physical block, elemental block, and weight, for anyone not planning to invest in the stat requirements of greatshields. Banished Knight Shield is highly competitive though, and can easily be justified for its lower STR requirement and fashion compatibility.
  
  Most builds that are interested in having a "block and counter" option can invest pretty easily in either Brass Shield or Banished Knight Shield (16/14 STR, respectively) and Scholar's Shield (12 INT). At +25, with the buff, this pushes their guard boost to the mid-80s, which is very resilient for this weight class and very approachable stat-wise even for non-STR based characters.

  -100% physical block and good elemental block across the board.
  -Can take ashes.
  
  Safe to say that, in terms of everything listed above, this is the best shield for casual and high level play. Other shields may have better individual attributes, but this thing is all-around good or great at everything.

  They nerfed the scaling on this shield. Just upgraded one to +7 standard affinity and the guard boost only increased by 1 point total.

  Easy to get, tho it will take a while. High guard boost, 100% physical, infusable, upgradable with regular Smithing Stones.
  
  This shield has only one drawback: Its 7.0 weight. But chances are you got some points in Endurance and wont wield a heavy weapon while using this shield.

  Godrick treats his soldiers right. The brass shield, longsword, and straight sword they drop remain effective super far into the game (as a Wretch, I was even wearing their armor deep into Stormview, and I cleared out Limgrave, Weeping Peninsula, and most of Caelid first)

  If you want a shield that can be used for both blocking and parrying this is your best choice. It has 100% phys block and guard boost that rivals the lesser greatshields. Throw one of the advanced parry Ashes of War on it.

  This thing needs a guard boost nerf honestly, there is no reason to use any other medium shield if you have 16 strength. Hell, there's no reason to use some of the greatshields because of this thing, it's ridiculous. This is worse than the shield choices in Dark Souls 1.

  After reading the abysmal drop rate, I went to the gatefold grace. I popped a silver chicken foot and killed the 4 brass shield mobs and walked away with 2 on my first trip.

  guard boost increases pretty much every other improvement level (+3,+5,+7,....), damage negation never changes as far as i can tell.

  Definitely best shield, paired with barricade shield and bosses will deal 0 stamina damage to you, and you can keep that up almost indefinitely

  Not sure how high you can upgrade the boost to, but if it can get to 65 and you use barricade, your blocks will cost no stamina

  Still using this shield from the beginning, nothing has come close to it even the couple of great shields I've looted so far are worse.

  You get 84 stability with Shield Barricade art, which is further increased when upgraded. If you got the strength, this thing is worth using for a LONG time.

  I was hesitant to upgrade any shields in the early game, especially after finding the Brass Shield pretty quickly and seeing that everything else at the time was junk compared to it. However, its undoubtedly the best medium shield for guard damage negation in the game, as well as on par and sometimes better than a handful of the great shields. The elemental guards are also significantly better than most. The only real downside is that most classes will need to add a few points of strength of their build to wield it. Though 16 is a sweet spot that will give you access to a variety of other armaments. The "no skill" slot makes this the perfect shield for someone who wants to utilize versatile ashes and playstyles while keeping a good guard up.

  It's the pre-nerf Hollow Soldier Shield all over again. The only comparable medium shield for dedicated blocking is the Banished Knight Shield with 4 less stability and worse elemental negation across the board for 1 lower weight and 2 less Str req.

  This thing at +25 with Barricade and some stamina makes blocking something ridicolous against most attacks in-game.
  
  For the measly stats it's asking well.... they may nerf it in the future.
