Arrows/Bolts in Elden Ring are Ammunition for ranged weapons such as Bows and Crossbows. Beast Bone Arrows/Bolts are available through Crafting while specialty ammunition is purchased from Merchants or found in limited supply. This page covers their names, type, attack power, and passives.
Arrows add their shown AR values to your bows base AR and are affected by the scaling of your bow, but do not scale on their own. Bolts, crossbows, and ballistae have no scaling. The added damage and statuses of arrows follow the usual scaling rules; physical AR affected by strength and dexterity scaling, lightning AR affected by dexterity scaling, magic AR affected by intelligence scaling (Horn Bow only), fire and holy AR affected by faith scaling (Erdtree Bow and Erdtree Greatbow only), and status buildup of sleep/poison/blood affected by arcane scaling (Serpent Bow only).
For ranged Builds, it is often easier to farm Runes and purchase Arrows/Bolts directly instead of purchasing Materials to craft them. A list of the Merchants they are sold by can be found below.

guys, we can kill the merchants and get their "balls" and give them to the twins in the round table
just to not make a whole trip to get more ammo

Everyone complaining about arrows and consumables should try Lords Of The Fallen. Your arrows, and throwables replenish when you rest. Once you discover an arrow or throwable type (fire arrows, poison arrows, fire bombs, etc) you have that type permanently unlocked and you can increase your max arrows by leveling up your agility. I wish From would implement a system like that. Doing a bow build in that game is very easy and fun.

How i wished to have a madness inflicting arrows on my hands

Is there any way to increase the capacity held rather than 30 so I won’t run out of arrows mid-boss fight?

Been wanting explosive arrows for a while, bolts don’t do it, and golems great arrows are a pain with the drop rate -as a pure bow build. Any substitutes?
- Anonymous
2015 The Witcher 3. You collerct crafting material, craft the item once, then rest to replenish. Its that fing simple.
2022 Fromsoftware: farm, craft, farm, craft, farm, craft over and over

FromSoftware making Arrows, Items in general, so hard to get is why there is a real money marketplace. They can pretend to be good at balancing all they want but people don't like artificial scarcity.
- Anonymous
fromsoftware works really hard to make bows bad.
A smith script arrow/bolt would be thousands of times better than this piquebone bs

I love doing a run back to the shop every 10 attempts at a boss, seriously why are we limited to 699 arrows when crafting materials can go up to 999?
- Anonymous
Really wish arrows worked like flasks, where you could upgrade your capacity and they just replenished on rest. Farming for these is the single reason why I never bother with bows.
- Anonymous
You either spend hours and hours farming for these arrows, or you just cheat and actually play the fun part of the game instead grinding away. I love the idea of crafting, but it ends up being very time consuming to get materials you want.

Can't believe we got an arrow buff and it's bloody minuscule. Why do you hate us FROM. WHY!?
- Anonymous
I cannot tell you how tremendously bored I am of farming thin bones to craft interesting arrows for my "interesting" bow playthrough - I cannot tell you how disappointed I am to discover that some of the most interesting arrows never become infinitely purchasable
I love From but why would they do this?

**rather the link sends to a different merchant with fire bolts
- Anonymous
The merchant in Calid doesn't sell fire arrows, he sells fire BOLTS
- Anonymous
All that having limited or tedious to obtain ammunition or ingredients in the game accomplishes, is separate the player base into two groups: those who are willing to cheat, and those who aren’t.
- Anonymous
No lightning arrows except the awful and useless ones you can craft? Bogus.
- Anonymous
For those who might be interested: The damage of arrows is not flat. It DOES scale with your bow.
The lightning damage from arrows scales with the DEX scaling of the bow BUT the fire damage from arrows does not scale with STR, it scales with the FTH scaling of the bow. This means Erdtree Bow is the only bow that increases the damage of Firebone arrows.
- Anonymous
I wanted explosive arrows for mighty shot, rain of arrows and the other skill that shoots like a machine gun, but nooo, i can't make the explosive minigun build. Sadness...
- Anonymous
There's standard & craftable versions of arrows & bolts across each element but with one specific exception.. there's no standard Lightning Arrows. Odd. Is there a reason I wonder?
- Anonymous
It's insane that these aren't craftable across the board. Not only can you only find some at certain merchants, but you also don't get Radahn's spears until you defeat him. That's half the game without access to them.
- Anonymous
This would be easier to navigate if arrows, bolts, great arrows, and great bolts each had their own table you could swap to, instead of all being in one giant one that you need to scroll through to reach the section you actually care about.
- Anonymous
hey, yknow those giant poison spikes you see launched into the ground in that cinematic trailer? give us some of those why dontcha, but smaller and for the jar cannon
- Anonymous
None of the merchants in any of the games I have started sells arrows. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Kale doesnt have them neither does the guy on the beach or over the bridge.
- Anonymous
I hope they make all of the special bots/arrows purchasable from a merchant in dlc, 'cause nobody is gonna farm, say, magic great arrows for his personal build. (5% drop chance? Wtf?)
- Anonymous
Ok, there really, REALLY should have been arrows that stop flask healing.

I still don't know why fromsoft feel the need to throttle bow combat with limited arrow supply and stiff movement in combat.
Can't each arrow type just be a found reusable item you slot to your bow and then hey presto your arrows are that type until you unequip. Can you imagine the excitement for bow users to research where their favourite arrow is to complete their fire/holy/magic archer build. Shame
- Anonymous
I see the ass-for-brains who owns this website finally put their shitty view farm twitch embed onto the elden ring wiki. Everyone should shame them for this on every page.

It might be important to mention, but all of the great-arrows in the game would shatter your fingers if you actually tried to fire them.

Considering the time and effort investment of crafting arrows, it makes no sense that they do LESS damage than those sold by merchants. Elden Ring's crafting system is utterly pointless. Buying items from merchants worked fine in every other Soulsborne game. Yet another example of FromSoft making something bigger and more complicated with no regard for its purpose.

Shame this game doesn't have sleep great arrows, breaks all immersion.
I should be able to put enemies to (eternal) sleep using my +25 greatbow...
We need more Great Bolt types. Also a jump shot for regular crossbows. I understand not reloading mid jump, but the ability just to shoot the loaded projectile. I started using the cannon and pulley crossbow and wow the cannon is amazing when it one shots. Most stuff in weeping/limgrave/Liurnia and atlas gets absolutely wrecked even ng+ with a +25 cannon using the standard crafting bone Great bolts.

For most purposes, you should not use crafted ammunition because the time+ cost of the materials is too high for their comparative effectiveness (Bone Bolts and BBB are a possible exception depending on how range factors into their effectiveness in a given fight). Crafted ammunition is for when you run out of other ammunition during a long fight with a field boss and don't want to charge into melee to try and finish it off. Instead, you can disengage from combat (without returning to a site of Grace) and then craft fresh stacks of ammunition. In addition to any ammunition you are already carrying (but may have already expended in a long battle), a full load of bones and feathers allows you to craft 3,330 arrows (various types) and 495 BBB's. If you're relying on status effects and can stand the shorter range (such as by riding past on Torrent), you can use the Pulley Crossbow to deliver bone bolts (various types).
In the early game, Poisonbone Darts can be an effective means of beating some bosses with limited resources.

i honestly dont know why greatbows have the worst range out of all the ranged weapons, these are the things youre always getting sniped by from enemies, i remind you.
- Anonymous
Arrow crafting is ridiculously time consuming. You will farm for them longer than it will take you to use them.

Currently playing an Archer character... Man is it annoying as heck.
Using Serpent Bow and Lion Greatbow.
Swapping arrows is a hassle as there's no easy way to do it, you have to do it in the menu. So while it's technically possible to do rainbow effects with Serpent Bow (Proccing Poison + Scarlet Rot + Frostbite + Bleed spam) it's stupid to try as you'll likely get smacked in the face as you go into the menu, into the equip screen, select an ammo slot, sift through all the various kinds of arrows you have and then pick the one you want...
Why Arrows/Greatarrows and Bolts/Greatbolts share inventory slots I have no idea. There's no logical way you can concieve that the SPEAR SIZED great-ammo can ever fit into the regular sized quiver/boltbag. If anything, Greatarrows/Greatbolts would share an inventory space for their SPEAR SIZED ammunition. But even that is a "y tho?" situation.
Why you have a limit of carrying only 99 Arrows/Bolts and 30/20 Greatarrows/Greatbolts of each kind beats me. Like, if it's a matter of "How much space they use" then it's laughable given the 99 of 31 other arrow types you can also be holding (As well as hundreds of weapons and armour sets). If it's a matter of "Balance how much you can shoot" well that goes out of the window when you can literally carry up to 3168 arrows if you have 99 of each type which you can "Simply" swap between in combat... So why not just let us hold our entire 999 store of the ammo we actually bothered to farm runes/materials to obtain?
The way arrows work is that they basically add their shown damage values to your bows base damage and are affected by the scaling of your bow. This means that higher base damage arrows can provide a larger damage boost than the difference might make it seem.
This additional base damage also adheres to all the usual scaling rules:
1. Physical damage on arrows adds to your bows phys damage and in increased by both, your bows str and dex scaling.
2. Magic damage from arrows is added to any magic base damage and is fixed unless your bow scales with int. The Horn Bow is the only one that scales with int and its scaling does affect the arrows as well.
3. Fire damage from arrows will scale with your fth if your bow has innate fth scaling. Only the Erdtree Bow has this property, although that's not too valuable because you're splitting your damage between phys/holy/fire which is penalized heavily by how defenses work.
4. Lightning damage on arrows scales exclusively off your bows dex scaling, just like the lightning affinity on weapons.
5. Holy damage scales off faith. Again, this only applies if your bow has innate fth scaling so it's limited to the Erdtree Bow and Erdtree Greatbow.
6. Finally the status buildup on arrows scales with arcane if your bow has arc scaling. The Serpent Bow therefore boosts bleed buildup as well.
And finally more notes:
* Radahns Bow deals additional damage with Radahns Spear arrows. Fairly obvious from the description but worth mentioning because it does NOT show up in the weapons AR (even with Radahns Spear equipped it will have just barely more AR than the regular Greatbow but deal more damage per shot than even a Golem Greatbow)
* the Erdtree Bow and Greatbow are pretty bad. They do get scaling on holy and fire arrows but their base damage is so terrible that they'll perform worse than regular bows with those arrows if you have even a tiny bit of str/dex investment. Extremely niche uses cases, especially with how few things are actually weak to holy.
* Radahns Rain gets 17 projectiles falling from the sky as opposed to Rain of Arrows' 12. They deal less damage per arrow though and the bonus damage from Radahns Spear does NOT appear to work with the weapon skill, so just for the skill it's strictly better to use Golem Arrows.

I wish the Arrows worked like spells and incantations... where each slot is a different arrow so you can switch arrows on the fly.

When you unlock the ability to purchase materials for rrows its still less expensive to buy the wood arrows.
45 runes per arrow just for the thin bones. Then additional cost for feathers and possible elemental components.
Just buy them.

If you want tracking arrows use the enchanted shot ash of war. Also boosts their damage and fly speed.
I have corrected most of the values including damage, ammunition types, and status buildups. I have also added the Lightning Bolt, but I do not have an image for it.

Mighty shot dwelling arrows from the horn bow got me through a lot of the game. It made being non spell oriented possible and I had so much fun.So many arrows to play with I think a bow only build is extremely doable.

The Merchant in the Shack in Caelid sells Serpent Arrows for 200 Runes per arrow (infinite supply).
And the Merchant in the Shack near the Draconic Tree Sentinel in Altus sells arrows dealing holy damage for 200 Runes per arrow, also infinite supply. Moreover, that Merchant also sells infinite Ballista Bolts for 300 Runes per piece.
Damn reading through these comments is so strange, you all really that afraid of farming for a bit to have ammo? Like seriously. Most of the ingredients for arrows and bolts are infinite and have relatively high drop rates. Sure, Black Key bolts aren't in infinite supply but they literally deal 5 more status buildup and a whole 2 more damage than a rotbone bolt, which are made in batches of 20. Is your time really that valuable that you're above sitting down and killing some animals for a half hour?
