Miyazaki says that it has not yet been decided whether Martin’s mythology will be novelized, but he was not hesitant to state that he personally would prefer you to experience it through the game
A novelization would mean that all the secrets
and mystery hidden in our game would be revealed.
From the point of view of a director,
I’m not sure if that would be the right thing to do.
The player will be able to learn about Martin’s mythology through exploration.
We are known for letting the player explore the game’s lore through fragments of environmental storytelling,
and this time around Martin’s story is what you will be trying to unravel.
The period the player actually explores is still connected to the old times,
so as you slowly discover why the world has become the way it is, you will learn more about Martin’s mythology as well.

the games' massive scope has provided us with quite a challenge.
How has the scale of the game affected your own work?
You told us before that designing areas is the part of your work you enjoy the most.
Are you able to be as involved in designing each area of the game as you have been previously,
and what kind of techniques did you use to keep track of everything in the game?
Elden Ring's scope and scale are massive
when compared to our other games,
so yes,
a lot of the things I'd worked closely on previously
were handed off to the team
in order for me to oversee larger portions of the project.
This goes for level design as well,
and while I tried to be as involved as I could,
I ended up entrusting smaller scale areas such as dungeons to the team.
This method also affected the way I went about controlling
various aspects of the game throughout production.
Previously I was very hands-on,
overseeing even the most minute aspects personally
in order to get the result I wanted.
However, due to the scale of Elden Ring,
this was simply not possible
and a lot of my time was spent explaining my vision
for more abstract elements such as
setting,
intent and themes to the team,
and allowing them to take that vision and bring it to life.

when you design an area in Elden Ring?
How does designing an open world area like Limgrave
differ from creating a level in one of your previous games?
Does lore come first, then geography, then enemies and bosses, or does it vary?
For Elden Ring, area design tended to begin with the lore.
This was due to the fascinating mythos penned for us by Mr. Martin.
Caelid for example,
is known for being the land where Radahn and Malenia fought
at the end of the Shattering,
so this was a starting point for the level design and the visual design as well.
This method for designing the world and its parts is unique to Elden Ring,
and a major departure from our previous titles.

- In both iterations, the "One Great" is used.
- The main difference is that in 日本語, the "One Great" is first divided, and then those divisions are distinguished further.
- 分かたれ (wa・ka・ta・re) can be interpreted as "the distinction between right and wrong."
So just condensing all this information into the term "fractures,"
removes the knowledge of this important series of events.
It makes it seem that any division is wrong, in so much, as even being able to tell the difference between right and wrong... good and evil... should not be possible.
That all should remain ignorant. - Following this, 心を持った (kokoro・wo・motta), is the will... the capability to act within reality; which gets compressed to "souls."
- The main difference is that in 日本語, the "One Great" is first divided, and then those divisions are distinguished further.
