Mace is a Hammer in Elden Ring. The Mace scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for breaking through guards and stances. This weapon is ideal for delivering powerful strikes against enemies with a strong guard.

Striking attacks have few drawbacks, potent as they are at breaking through guards and stances, Most suited to head on slugging matches.

          For fun PvE stuff, pair this with a Greatshield and go for a tank-ish build. Pump levels into Endurance and go for guard-breaks. As long as you manage your Stamina, you simply *will not* take damage. For all the game's insane weapons & builds, a basic as hell Quality Knight/Paladin works remarkably well.

              I would recommand to play this one two handed to use it's charged r2 to max potential. It's scaling in heavy is in the upper end of A tier, so the damage boost is quite huge.

              For the ash of war, cragblade is the obvious option against bosses that have 120 poise or less (you can use the poise damage tear in your physics flask instead).

              I also like putting endure on hit against bosses with few openings as it allows you to trade effectively and create opportunities to stance break even more easily. The poise physics becomes indispensable in this case, but the reward is huge

                okay so um... Not sure what I missed. I remember this mace being great for hard enemies like miners and crystal sentinels due to it dealing solely blunt damage. And I am certain I used to use this weapon for thoseenemies. But now that I am replaying the game the weapon bounces off every hard enemy, something I am absolutely certain it never did before. Have they nerfed blunt damage? Buffed hard enemies? Like whats going on? It used to be a dependable weapon for those situations but if it no longer works then I might as well skip on this weapon from now on....

                    ER has a serious hit stun issue on medium weapons. If you hit someone with a mace, straight sword, spear or even a dagger, your opponent is out of stun before your recovery is over. This means anyone with a dagger, thrust sword, fist weapon can trade hit you after you hit them and before you can roll or attack again. This is especially problematic to mace, cause if you’re looking at the mace at all, you’re prolly a caster and a dagger from a G9 build will win a trade against a casters mace r1. This is especially problematic now in 1.10 with hyper armor buffs: hitting someone with your mace means they now get a free L2 vigor check on you and they get armor boost against retaliation if they miss. 1.10 has forced me to use daggers and thrust swords… and ditch my mace :(

                        To everyone complaining about how little damage this weapon does: your damage comes from landing a crit every other swing. The stance damage on this thing is absolutely bonkers.

                                It’s… ok. Niche use is casters for its r2 hyper armor even when one handed… But the damage is TERRIBLE. Even blessed infused mace in ds3 killed faster than sacred on ER with the same fth investment. And now that they’ve nerfed BoG… well I find I simply can’t have fun with this weapon anymore when I’m squishy and do no damage but everything else is tankier and hits harder. What good is one handed hyper armor if you lose all trades? Even with endure, you’ll lose most trades.

                                    Feels amazing as my caster weapon on my Golden Order (faith/int) build. Equip with Sacred Order, which grants a bonus to incantation (!!) damage when active. Also, it glows golden when buffed, which goes with the theme.

                                    When enemies close to punish your casting, hold R2 and counter-bonk. Damage isn't amazing, but it does the job of being a credible threat (due to hyperarmor) while also buffing your casting.

                                      On the bright side, I love this weapon on my pure faith build. Is it the strongest in class with sacred blade? Probably not, but try finding a skeleton enemy that doesn't die from so much as making eye contact with this thing

                                        The anti cleanrot sword. That is this weapons sole niche. One handed hyper armor r2 to prediction trade small weapons when you’re a caster/shield build and two handed hyper armor so any build can bludgeon cleanrot/quickstep users into mush. Just manage your stamina while bonking quicksteppers.

                                          The counter attack after blocking has a crappy hitbox and will completely miss small targets such as rats and stone imps. Very annoying and frustrating.

                                            Both the one handed and two handed R2 attacks on the Mace now have an extremely noticeable amount of hyper armor that takes effect the moment your character holds still after the readying animation.

                                            Encampment Knights and even some smaller bosses which normally don't flinch from the light attacks can just kind of get bullied now by stunning them over and over again with heavy attacks and either beat them before they can get a follow up attack out at worst trade. If you pair this with endure or something that can boost physical negation like prawns or a physick mix, you can get a lot of cheeky damage off on an annoying enemy or boss kind of mindlessly by how quickly the hyper armor becomes active.

                                            Add the fact that Hammers are arguably the best posture break weapons in the game and these things are starting to look like more than solid options for boss fights compared to launch.

                                              This is huge. For one handed mace r2 to have hyper armor opens all sorts of possibilities. My perfumer set wearing caster has enough poise to pick trades against straight swords, daggers, slicer etc. Then sacred blade channels boosted hyper armor for beefier tradehits. Mace still lacks damage I want it to have, and is still a terrible pick for melee focused builds.... but now it feels like a very strong caster weapon.

                                                Can confirm. Mace ONE HANDED r2 now has hyper armor. I only have 26 poise and was poising through all sorts of things that definitely would’ve broke my poise before this patch.

                                                    It’s hard mode for pvp. Viable but you’ll have to enjoy pain. Barbaric roar is the only way I’ve made it overcome other strength builds resistances. Consider that: it doesn’t do enough damage to be a threat to the tank builds it’s supposed to hard counter. The poise damage is also terrible considering you’re left wide open to thrust trades on the r1 recoveries if they don’t beat their poise. Outclassed by dagger both in terms of damage, and recovery speed to poise damage ratio. I tried it as an offhand weapon for the poise damage to compensate for main hand straight sword but it failed to perform. Straight sword r2-r2-r2 was simply better at the same speed and offered counter hits/anti jump defense on slash.

                                                      Should have been identical damage/poise damage as great swords. Less requirements but significantly less range and ash selection. When they break poise they feel great but if the opponent can poise it, it’s literally worse than a dagger since they’re so slow, have low damage and have long recoveries.

                                                        Darn… i thought 1.07 was the answer for the mace to make its return to glory… but no. unfortunately you still lack the AR required to make trades. Your R1 loses to a katana R1 no matter what. Especially considering the katana has faster swing speed meaning you cant even punish a trade after the fact, the katana will out speed you and you will be forced to roll out, immediately putting you on the defensive. “Built for all out slugging matches?” I beg to differ, at least for pve

                                                              Used it since launch. It’s trash. The entire point of a hammer is to break poise, win reasonable trades and crack through armor/shields at the cost of low reach and punishable recoveries. But you lose trades to katanas and curved swords, don’t break poise, don’t break shields and still got the penalties. I once used Endure and r1 spammed trades against a guy spamming two daggers with poise tear and when he finally broke my poise he was way ahead of me and he wasn’t even using status. All it’s problems could be solved with an easy damage buff, same for collosal hammers. In the mean time, enjoy playing pvp on ultra hard mode.

                                                                I don't understand the dexterity requirements on this weapon. It's literally just a stick with a weight on top, a caveman would be able to wield it. But then it takes 7 dexterity, but even the clumsiest of classes starts with 9 dexterity, so you literally can't not meet the requirements. Just put a heavy affinity on it. That's the way the weapon should scale by default.

                                                                Dexterity requirements on swords and spears are good, knights are strong yet dextrous warriors after all, but maces should be pure strength weapons IMO.

                                                                  The charged attack is hype af. You just hold this beauty up the in air, clench your teeth, and then rip it down with all the righteous fury of a true paladin. I just find it to be so immersive to use, even if you are limiting yourself severely (it is still a hammer in elden ring after all) you can have a lot of fun with this weapon.

                                                                    It’s about middle of the pack in weapon ar once you take scaling into account, but it’s weight is on the lower end compared to a lot of the more damaging hammers so it’s damage to weight ratio is pretty good.

                                                                      I wish the Morning Star had the the unique Mace heavy attacks. The horizontal swing on them is really nice for hitting multiple enemies and just in general with how quickly enemies move in this game. The safety net of a sweeping hitbox is just better in 95% of situations.

                                                                        At 80 strength and a heavy infusion the Mace gets 30 more AR than the Morning Star, both one-handed and two-handed. Imo, between movesets and bleed, the Morning Star is better, a 30 AR difference isn’t that big.

                                                                            Simply doesn’t do meaningful damage in pvp. But it’s solid on a spell caster since the circular swings roll catch people trying to be aggressive and elemental damage is superior to pure physical in this game. Sacred blade ash can help make up for its “short”comings on fth and hits really hard against other spell casters or undead.

                                                                                Used this on me and my mimic tear against radagon and it made the fight SO much easier. Radagon is less resistant to strike damage than other types of attacks

                                                                                          oh my, accidentally discovered its hidden insane poise damage, 2 guard counter with single hand mace + shield, can easily staggered Castle Sol Banished Spectral knight, for criticals. The stagger build up is way better and faster than Great Mace... I am so regret to upgrade my great mace now...

                                                                                            I was building a quality swordsman character, but grabbed one of these just for going through the mines. Cuts through the claymen or stone miners or whatever they're called like butter.

                                                                                            When I played ds3 I always kept one as a sidearm for pvp, because it broke through shields pretty well. That seems to go for this game, too.

                                                                                            In both cases I only ever used it situationally. In elden ring I leaned on my mace often enough to justify upgrading it to 25, though I know quality probably isn't the best for it. Just for fun I started using it in the haligtree area, and I'm realizing how much I was missing out on in the fights against common enemies. One charge attack will stagger haligtree soldiers, which I know are basic, but being able to surgically take out common enemies that make up 90 percent of encounters really is something else. Feels great. It's an enjoyable time

                                                                                              there's a dying dragon you find in caelid. You can walk up to it and hit it's tail with any weapon with significant reach. try it with the mace. you can't do it.

                                                                                              I've been using this for the 'look' of it more than anything else. I like the way it looks more than the morning star or any other hammer. going to switch, though.

                                                                                                  The classic workhorse weapon of strength builds. It hasn’t ever let me down in any Fromsoft game, and isn’t ever anything less than a reliable, solid weapon. Love it.

                                                                                                    What is the actual point of this weapon. It seems to come behind morning star slightly in all damage except extremely high strength values and it doesn't have bleed. What happened to FROMSOFTs convention of making a morning star do less damage than the mace while having bleed. The only way I could justify using this weapon is if it does more poise damage than the morning star. It's moveset is super awkward too.

                                                                                                        The main reason I see to use this over the morning star is str scaling and weight. That being said since bleed is so good in this game and most str builds probably won’t care about the .5 weight the only real use for this weapon is to switch off the morning star against tough enemies who are immune to bleed
