Lannseax's Glaive is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Lannseax's Glaive is used to make a sweeping attack with a red lightning glaive. Updated to Patch 1.07.

Incantation that channels the power of the ancient dragon Lansseax.

Creates a red-lightning glaive and sweeps the area from above.
This attack unleashes trails of lightning.

Lansseax was the sister of Fortissax. It is said that she took the form of a human to commune with the knights as a priestess of the ancient dragon cult.

Elden Ring Lansseax's Glaive Guide

  • Stamina Cost: 55
  • Deals lightning damage
  • One of the Dragon Cult Incantations and is boosted by the Gravel Stone Seal
  • Long cast time followed by a large horizontal "glaive" swipe, with follow-up AoE damage.
  • Should be treated as an AoE spell for dealing with groups, as the damage is mediocre for single targets.
  • Note: FP cost reduced by 21% as of Patch 1.07, from 28 to 22

Can be used to quickly deal with walking mausoleums. Other than that, exactly what comment below mine says - it's an AoE with hyperarmor. Use when you are surrounded or if you need to clear a crowd. Personally, I just think it's neat, red lightning thingy go swoosh hehe.

      • Anonymous

All yall complaining about damage and not considering that this is an AOE with hyperarmor. Taking direct hits from Mohg himself did nothing to stop this mid-cast. Consider that next time you use Moonblade and get knocked out of it by a foot soldier
Also I'm getting great damage output and not even using the right seal for it (dragon communion), so cannot sympathize

This spell would be so much better if it was just a clone of Adula's Moonblade or Black Blade.

Compared to Moonblade it has the same FP cost, 1.5x as much stamina to cast, and an even higher Faith requirement at 40 compared to the former's 32 Int requirement.

          • Anonymous

Use this to mow the lawn and frost/red lightning storm to melt big baddies. They have VERY different functions.

            • Anonymous

I like to cast this in the vicinity of those invisible scarabs whose prints you can track. Seems the easiest way to cover a wide space.

              • Anonymous

This either needs a damage buff or a casting speed buff. You do get good damage on like an 80 faith build with 2 gravel stone seals but other than that, you have to hit the enemy with the glaive itself to do decent damage.

                • Anonymous

This could have been the Faith version of Adula's Moonblade, but a lot of incantations suffer from a flashiness over practicality design.

                  • Anonymous

Needs a speed buff and maybe two hit boxes, one for the wave and one for the glaive, because its looks too cool to be so terrible.

                    • Anonymous

Love the way the incant looks and the coverage area is good but, considering the stat req., the damage is really weak and needs a buff

I dont understand. If Lanseax disappears from the first encounter then where do i get this? i didnt get it from Farum Azula. Do you get this after she disappears? I didnt do that encounter. please advise.

Use this to farm albanurics at the bird spot if you don’t want to fall asleep rune farming, it’s like a lesser version of the elden beasts waves of gold (set up is old lords talisman, radagon icon, gold scarab and 4ths slot is a choice between flocked canvas, primal glintstone blade, lightning scorpion, two fingers heirloom, or marikas soreseal) with your best seal in hand and gravel stone seal in opposite to give the buff to dragon spells even if you’re not casting with it and if you are; alt hand suggestions are turtle shield for stamina, Milo’s sword for fp, blasphemous blade for Hp to help deal with the albanuirics spin to win

I found this more fun then falling asleep farming the bird and similar yield to roughly same amount of time for making theme builds at high levels

Idgaf what anyone says about the damage, this is just straight up my fave spell in the game. So ****ing cool.

This thing is great, the only thing it needs is a slight, very slight damage upgrade and to have the actual blade, not the lightning after-effect; be longer. All of the time it misses simply because its just a few inches off.

As a tip : It can knockback humanoid foes including armored knight which can be useful setting up another combo attack. (1.07 version)

At first I opted for frozen spear over this... At first. This street sweeper out classes the hHA and AoE Cone size and hits more things equally.... Single target we've got lightning spears and strike... Frozen is obsolete when I go lightning now... Or I should say I see no need for it anymore for it's the one that I've always felt needed a fix/buff and still do

                                  • Anonymous

this thing rocks, it has terrible damage if you hit near the hilt of the lightning blade, or with the spread, but if your distance is right you can get a LOT more damage. With flocks canvas, lightning scorpion, and ritual sword buffs I just did upwards of 1700 damage in pvp to a guy wearing the gelmir knight set. used 10 golden order, with the gravel stone in my off hand. follow up with a quick lightning spear for dispatch

Sorry folks, should've specced INT if you wanted a good melee attacking spell with a projectile. Adulas moonblade even has cold buildup.

Its great crowd control, pretty nice damage, pretty satisfying to use and its hard to get staggered out of it. Pretty great spell, though my expectations have been lowered dramatically after witnessing elden stars

"high faith incantations lightning suck no dmg take too long to cast stuck in air full dumbass mode getting knocked down suck" -the comments. *Actual footage of me looking away as I return to my own business, one shot clapping players and the whole gank crew with scorcerous lightning of the 7 Gods with these slow wind-up incants that are otherwise useless and server no purpose*

                                          • i remember in my first playthrough I was an underleveled faith build that wandered into Altus. Got this from Lansseax and was pogged out of my mind. 15 levels of sub-optimal point spending later only to see it hit for half the damage of Frozen Lightning Spear that I obtained like 5 hours prior in the previous area in a random cave. Despair

Needs more rigorous testing than I care to do, but it appears that the “glaive” hit activates the winged sword charm and its brethren.

                                              • Anonymous

I fully agree with the comments about Hyper Armor, I have a sneaky suspicion that this spell scales off Dex and Faith, Might need some testing, but 80 dex would improve the cast speed and maybe run 80 faith with Gravelstone seal, I'm currently Dex arcane and I noticed when I increased my dex damage went up

                                                • If you can hit with the glaive and wave effect the damage starts to be respectable but good luck finding an enemy who will let you do that with how long this takes to cast

                                                  • Anonymous

Thought this would be like Carian Slicer but electric. Turns out it’s an incantation that roots you to the ground and leaves you a sitting duck, at the great reward of dealing mediocre damage.

                                                    • Anonymous

Takes too long to cast, so you want to cast this at distance, except the wave of lightning travels 2 inches. Still useless after the buff.

                                                      • Anonymous

Still not good. People are too optimistic. Super armor comes up very late in the cast animation so you will still get knockdown combod by throwing knives for the first 2 seconds. The super armor needs to be expanded to be from the time you leave the ground for this to be worth anything, for starters. Secondly the damage is very low. You can do 7 honed bolt in the time that it takes to use this so the AOE is not even practical either. So it basically needs a doubling of its damage output OR quadrupling of its speed. Both of which I'd be very surprised to see. This on top of the aforementioned superarmor.

                                                        • Anonymous

It’s viable now, but still feels a bit slow, maybe increase the fp cost in exchange for faster cast speed?

                                                          • Anonymous

Ok. I tested it on a giant at secluded cell. This glaive does 1375 Fortisax does a whopping 2500 at 60 faith with appropriate gravel talisman.

However the glaive has more range in a 90 degree cone forward. I do believe this spell is more consistent though with a larger hitbox and you bulk damage reaches farther

Fortisax spears which hits harder if your opponent catches both bolts the AOE is a circle but blows out in a Cross so if people dodge diagonally from you they can avoid most of Fortisax spear. Where with the glaive your enemy has to get passed you to dodge this spell.

Could be worth combining the 2 starting with the glaive and then switching to Fortisax.

It's amazing how a little hyper armor and cast speed buffs can take an incantation that was sorely underpowerd, and turn it into a real powerhouse. So happy to have this thing be more usable; outside of niche situations.

                                                              • Anonymous

This is amazing post patch, lightning builds should focus on good armor, buff def and abuse the poise now since this has knockdown can easily combo into Fortissax's Lightning Spear for amazing damage.

                                                                • Anonymous

With the new updates, I think black flame protection + golden vow can really make this skill shine on humanoid enemies since it does do a knockdown and then can combo into further knockdowns or other spells.

                                                                  • Anonymous

At this point I wonder why From include half the incantations they do. If you know something is borderline useless, why a) put it in the game at all and b) replace a potentially valuable boss reward with it

                                                                    • Anonymous

If we're going to have to cast it floating in the air, can we at least use it while jumping? Currently, if you get poise-broke while casting it in the air, it throws you on your back. I can't see why that would be a benefit at all if you can cast Moonblade from neutral stance while Glaive would get you surrounded while you recover.

                                                                      • Anonymous

It badly needs to be reworked to be more similar to Adula's Moonblade, considering they practically do the same thing except this one is just plain worse (damage-wise less, animation-wise slower, not chain-castable, not combo-able, no status effect although it does lightning damage which is the least resisted damage type next to strike so that's okay). I really can't think of any reason why it shouldn't be. It's such a cool, damn spell too.

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

This isn't meant for killing bosses, this is meant for cleaving through a bunch of trash mobs. It fills it's purpose quite well, tearing through groups of 6+ enemies with ease -- the problem is that there's not many situations where you're facing that many foes.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

This seems to have a knockdown and a knockup at times, but literally without some hyper armor for the latter half of the cast you cant get it to happen 90% of the time. This is the one I hope they touch the most as lightning builds need a better skill.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Is this could just work like Dragon claw, in which it gives you increased Poise when you are in the Air then it would actually be worth it with the Cracked tear and scorpion charm. Not the strongest(still good damage) but its cool and flashy and does AOE. But like anything will knock you out of the animation. You can cancel into it with Catch Flame but it does not help much. Heck if it could at least do some decent stagger damage or something!

                                                                                    • Anonymous

I love using the Lightning Spear.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                        • Anonymous

At first I thought this is absolute garbage (It actually is). But if you hit with both the sword and the lightning wave it does decent damage. A bit higher than the frost lightning and more so than lighting spear. But if you miss with the sword, witch isn't that hard. It's just trash, the wave does less than half the total damage, putting it at about half of lighting spear damage, it got short range. Stupidly long animation and a long after cast recovery, high fp cost and high faith requirement. Someone can literally just casually walk behind, avoid the whole thing and backstab you.
At least it does have hyperarmor once you are in the air.
Every single dragon incantation, except for the magma one, is just better than this in every.

Excellent option against groups of enemies on top of being able to do good damage against single targets if you hit them in the sweet spot. Chunks most bosses for huge damage per swing, and easily procs frostbite for large instantaneous damage and increased damage from further hits.
Fromsoft designing a cool dragon sword incantation:

This spell is great on bosses when you have a summon as a distraction or in multi-player.

I feel it is superior to Ancient Dragon Lightning Spear and Fortissax's Lightning Spear because of the massive reach the glaive gives you. Rather than smashing the ground below the caster it swings out a substantial distance from the caster while also adding the lightning bolt wave aftermath that is iconic for these spells.

In multi-player I tend to Rotten Breath bosses then use Lansseax's Glaive to stagger them making them easy targets for a Flame of Fury attack.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

How is this weaker then damn Lightning Spear, while also being worse in every other way?: Shorter range by a factor of 10, no fast cast option, can't be used on horseback, double the FP cost, double the FP requirement, and it's a mid game boss drop compared to the early game normal enemy drop. Did from even test this thing?

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

Using an Erdtree Seal +10 (~320 Spell boost) and Gravel Seal +25 (302 Spell boost) the Gravel Seal beats it out by a significant amount.

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

i'm not sure but i think it is considered dragon cult's spell, at least when i use gravel stone seal+20 as compared to finger seal+21 at 40 faith it does seems like there is an increase.

                                                                                                            • Anonymous

It's an ok AoE spell since it covers alot of range but against single target you could do more damage within the same time frame than this by just casting lightning spear twice uncharged.

                                                                                                              • long wind up, mediocre damage, and leaves you completely vulnerable while casting to the point you can easily be knocked out of the cast. Not worth the 40 points of faith is takes to use. Needs at bare minimum a damage buff and hyper armor.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                                    • Anonymous

For the grandeur of the spell and the long casting time, I was certainly expecting more

                                                                                                                            • Anonymous
