Been doing another run after watching hours of lore videos. These butterflies are all over the place. Every quest line has one lurking along the way. If they somehow signify Miquella, then it appears he knew or influenced nearly everything that would happen in the lands between.

      • Don't underestimate Dappled White Cured Meat. It gives you 75 resistance against Bleed, Frostbite, Madness, Scarlet Rot, Poison, and most importantly Sleep. Combine that with a Horn Charm for maximum effectiveness, for example Clarifying Horn Charm +1 and eating the dappled meat will give you an additional 215 Focus, meaning that if you have at least 202 Focus from other sources, someone using a Ripple Crescent Halberd on an 80 Arcane build with Drawstring Sleep Grease will need to hit you at minimum 4 times to proc Sleep, which is a very useful boon.

Haven't seen anyone mention this, but the butterfly color and details only appear in the snow area like mountaintop of the giants. They appear blue and are otherwise translucent everywhere else.

The people in these comments complaining about this item being useless have not discovered the value of Sleep in this game

Like everyone else I was confused why this butterfly appears as such a rare item yet it only used in recipes for pretty pointless crafts. I mean, who uses dappled meats they find, let alone feel a need to craft more?

I think it was to make us curious about it, and it worked. Lore time, boys.

The butterflies all seem to have ties to the Empyreans, and Nascent correlates to Miquella. Dappled meats slightly boost all status ailment resistances. Stay with me, because this next part seems a bit too weird to just be a coincidence.

Miquella's life goal, above all else, was to find a cure for Malenia's scarlet rot. Miquella himself is all but confirmed to be St. Trina, the source of all sleep magic. Miquella's Needle is able to expel the Frenzied Flane. He resists the advances of Mohg, the Lord of Blood, and cooperated with Radagon to develop several Golden Order Fundamentalism incantations, the ones most powerfully opposed to Death.

Rot, sleep, frenzy, blood, and Death. If we consider poison to be companion to rot, as the poison incantations are Kindred of Rot-flavored, then that only leaves frost without an obvious connection to Miquella.

purple color, but it only makes these cured meats that protect from status? Why not some attack boost item. Theres already exalted flesh, but it can be some attack and defense thing, or for slash dmg only. Doesnt feel like a rare.

These are like tricks/traps. Seems like these always lead to something bad happening... the ground crumbles away... mob ambush... a precarious jump... etc. It got to the point where I'd see them and think "oh great, now what's gonna happen", or just avoid them altogether, lol.

Can anyone confirm if these are only used for the dappled meat recipes? Because those are exceptionally bad unless you want A) Ultimate convenience (since you can make consumables for individual debuffs to counter bleed/death/poison/rot/pee-eyes with the same 100 resistance added), or B) You know you're about to fight something that does more than just poisons/bleeds/frost/death (which is good in one instance where there's rot and imps inflicting bleed in a single catacombs dungeon). I must be missing some ultimate use here for these butterflies

this isn't "exceedingly rare" tbh, you can find a lot of it in nokron, night's sacred ground and siofra river

There's a handful more (4-5) in Siofra River outside of the poison flower room (by a tree, some glowing herba, in the area roamed by 3 Land Octopus)

There's one on a grave post beating the tutorial boss, there's another in the same area on the breakaway ledge. Might be able to snag it if you jump for it? Has anyone gotten that second one on the ledge?
