Spews icy breath of Borealis from above
![]() |
Borealis's Mist is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Borealis's Mist spell conjures the head of Borealis to unleash a torrent of razor ice from above. Updated to Patch 1.09.1.
Superior incantation of Dragon Communion.
Channels the power of Borealis, the Freezing Fog.
Transforms caster into a dragon to spew icy breath from above.
Charging extends the duration. This incantation can be cast while
jumping.
The ice dragons were once lords of the mountaintops long ago,
until they were defeated by the Fire Giants and chased from the
peak.

Elden Ring Borealis's Mist Guide
- Dragon Communion Incantation
- Stamina Cost: 60
- Deals magic damage
- Inflicts Frostbite (110 per tick) on opponents.
- Like other named Breath incantations, this spell has a long wind-up time of 2 seconds.
- Deals 18% more damage than Dragonice, with a slightly longer range but a narrower spread.
- Duration can be extended to breathe again, and you can swivel your character while casting to spew in different directions.
- The full cast requires at least 90 FP but will use up to 156 FP with no additional benefit before any FP-conservating buffs.
- It takes on average 5 seconds including the initial wind-up to complete the full cast.
- Can be cast while jumping, and your character hovers slightly while using the spell.
- Cannot be used on horseback.
- As of Patch 1.09, Roar Medallion increases the damage of this incantation by approx. 5%. Tested in PVP.

would make sense for this to be physical, or for frost to be it's own damage type.

How does this thing's damage compared to Smarag's Glintstone Breath

The wiki says you can use this spell on horseback with the sacred seal in the main hand, however this is not true.

Aurora Borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your kitchen?

What's the point of the named dragon incantations? They cost more hearts and more FP, and they seem to do similar damage in a roughly equal area. Also, they can't be used mounted and they have that awkward pause in the middle. There's some cool tricks with the cast while jumping thing and they have a slightly larger area, but overall they seem generally inferior to me.

Borealis must’ve eaten some of those Listerine breath strips.

Kind of wish we got slightly different Dragon spells instead of just the same "Float in the air and breathe different type of breath" spells.
Like for Borealis I would like if we got its 360 AOE freezing attack instead. For Theodorix maybe the charge attack that leaves magma behind.

Borealis was the first dragon I beat before going to the church to get this, but I still can't seem to access it. Any idea why this is?

This is a way for faith casters to deal magic damage. It can be boosted by terra magicka.

i dont see the advantage of bigger breaths. most of the times, its better to use smaller one to deal more damage over time.

what damage type does this do, physical or magic? im not talking about the frostbite

This seems to deal....about 16% more damage than Dragonice? If anyone can confirm.

I have had more luck using hoarfrost stomp over this. Can deal triple the damage in half the time with only 10 intelligence. This takes longer, uses an absurd amount of FP, and is harder to hit (although it has better range). I am also using a +9 Dragon Communion Seal with 30/30 faith and arcane.

This and Rot are the two best breaths. Great damage and good status ailments you can inflict

casting this with 43 faith, arcane 15 and godslayer talisman +20 only does 230 dmg per tick to the banished knight outside of the church, in spite of the high mana cost. Does this scale better with Arcane, or is it necessary to use the dragon seal to get any reasonable damage numbers?
Must say that balancing seems off, when comparing this to warcries like hoarfrost stomp.
Like the other guy said, this thing has inconsistent range and depth just like the other expensive breath counterparts. They're not worth the higher FP cost because they're usually worse outside of specific scenarios.

According to my tests it's not really better than the regular ice breath. On top of that the first part of the attack is too high and it's impossible to aim correctly. Lastly it can't be used on a horse.
Waste of hearts. Buy only after you aquired the basic breaths.
If you wanna get some crazy damage with this, use Magma Breath first and then follow it up with this. The magma pool will reset the frostbite leading to multiple procs throughout one cast, this is because of the massive frostbite buildup of this spell easily overcoming your targets resistance. Although if your playing with summons online the bosses have increased resistances so your results will vary.
