Can confirm it doesn't get a power boost from either the Godfrey Icon or the Prince of Death Staff even though it's both a charge up spell and a death sorcery. It does still get the large boost from the Magick Scorpion Charm, which allows it to be almost on par with the Rancor and Ancient Death Rancor just because it flies faster and can proc frostbite after only a couple casts. This was tested on things like the land octopus (takes about 2 full charged casts to proc frostbite) and the firemonks up in the mountaintop of giants (they are very resistant to frostbite it seems, so it took longer and did much less damage when it did proc). The major advantage this spell has over the Rancor options even though they get the bonus mentioned first in this post is that they can slice off tentacles and gain a large damage bonus from hitting weak spots unlike the Rancor spells. As an example, with my 80 in all stats, I did 725 to the back of a land octopus with the Magick Scorpion Charm. If it turns around and takes all the rings to the beak it does well over 3,000. It also chopped off the tentacles, as stated prior.

Do these actually inflict ghostflame? I swear i've seen them cause delayed frostbite a bit after hitting multiple times

I think the devs just kinda funbled the new spells typings so none of them work with Godfrey icon or Basegame staffs sorcery bonuses.
So, no, Godfrey icon and prince of death staff currently tragically do nothing for this spell.

However the deathbird helm buffs this spell by a straight 15% on its own, which already makes this sorcery more than viable.

It is also amazing as a support spell for helping people beat bosses, the damage intervals aren't big enough to draw aggro a lot and the tracking almost guarantees they hit their mark unless they expire first.

The tracking on this is INSANE
It CHASES enemies down, in the most literal sense.

Watching the rings chase after a boss during a charge attack is extremely funny

            • I've been running some tests on the Omen outside the Underground Roadside SoG, and it takes 3 Icecrags to proc Frostbite on him and 4 Rings to proc Frostbite. They have 227 - 250 Frostbite Resistance. Icecrag does 100 per cast, thus why it took 3. Considering it took 4 casts for this spell on the other hand, I imagine the rings proc about ~60-70 per cast? The way people talked about it, I thought it would be way worse. Also Icecrag used to be 80 frostbite, so who knows, maybe this one will also get an upgrade too in a patch. But keep in mind, both sorceries have almost the exact same FP cost (12 vs 14). But Rings has slightly better damage at base value (not that huge of a difference, though, admittedly), however it has much better range (like *a lot more*, crazy more in fact), and most importantly it can be charged (super useful with the Godfrey Icon Talisman). In which case, it does *considerably* more damage than Icecrag, again for the same FP price (more or less). Stance-damage is also surprisingly decent (and obviously better than Icecrag). Again, it's a 14-FP spell so it's not going to cause *massive* shockwaves, but it's genuinely not bad at all. I'll be adding it to my wheel for sure.

As an int/faith death mage this spell is amazing. It does slightly less damage than ancient rancor, however it is faster, has very long range, and inflicts frostbite. Been using it on so many bosses in the DLC

so the sorcery seems totally bugged. it doesn't get buffed by the prince of death staff at all it seems which is kinda sad and it seems like there are other similar situations with other buffs. the helmet and the magic cracked tear both seem to work at least

                  • Anonymous

Low FP cost, decent damage and cast speed, frostbite (not a lot), death sorcery (so benefits from the best high-level staff) and most importantly... IT HAS INSANE RANGE. Not as much as Loretta's, but you'll never notice unless you're testing it. It goes much farther than Comet, for example.

                    • 99 Int/Faith PoD caster here. Was playing around with this spell, and its damage isn't super great. When swapping my offhand from a staff of loss to a second PoD, I didn't notice the damage going up, which is confusing. With two PoDs I was inflicting around 1158-1290 on the big dude outside the Secluded Cell grace. The way he moves around, it's possible one of them was getting a headshot causing the variance in the damage. In comparison, a night comet from the PoD paired with a SoL offhand was 1446, which is about an 11% difference. If the spell is truly not being boosted by the PoD, perhaps it's a bug and may get fixed at some point; it might then be a clear winner.

The main disadvantage to this spell is, similar to glintstone blade spells, the projectiles form in a circle with most of arc above you. This makes it terrible in small corridors as they can easily hit walls and be negated. This is best used in an open area.

All that aside, despite its lower damage and potentially hitting terrain, it does have one major selling point to keep it on your bar: the projectiles appear to be ghost flame as they can inflict frostbite. Having good range for this affliction is rare, so this is a solid opener to more powerful attacks/spells.

Same faith requirement as Rykard’s Rancor, which is convenient if you want to spam this for frost and use Rykard’s Rancor to reset frostbite.
