Flings a great mass of putrescence
![]() |
Mass of Putrescence is a Sorcery in Elden Ring. It is a brand-new Sorcery in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Mass of Putrescence spell creates a mass that explodes, raining ghostflame upon an area.
Sorcery originating from the putrid liquor of the stone coffins. Flings a great mass of putrescence that explodes shortly after impact, raining ghostflame upon the area. In an age long past, Death was burned by ghostflame. Even the remains of tainted flesh were given equal treatment in death.

Elden Ring Mass of Putrescence Guide
- Mass of Putrescence is a sorcery exclusive to Shadow of the Erdtree, and is not available in the base game.
- Stamina Cost: 42
- Mass of Putrescence deals Magic Damage.
- Mass of Putrescence inflicts Frostbite.
- Mass of Putrescence can be charged (41 FP and 55 Stamina) which allows its damage to be improved massively by Godfrey Icon.
- Can be cast while riding
- While the spell casts with the same animation and feel of Cannon of Haima, it is functionally closer to the spell Roiling Magma in the sense that to use this spell optimally you do NOT want to directly hit a target with it but instead lob it to the side of them. Hitting the spell directly onto an opponent carries a large if not guaranteed chance of the ghostflame explosion not triggering at all, which is where a massive portion of this spells damage comes from.

Pretty much useless to cast on anything that knows where you are and is moving toward you because of the long wind-up and they'll likely just get smacked by the slime ball which only really does abt 400 damage and doesn't stagger so on their way to you they just.... walk out of the aoe.....

Why is Death spelled with a capital D here? What are the lore implications here? What does it mean for Death (capital D) to have been burned by Ghostflame?

This is another roiling magma, NOT a cannon of haima. It's everything we wanted out of roiling magma originally when everyone was *****ing about it. This goes off quicker, and is a tossable bomb with a cool reminiscent effect of DS3 dreg sorceries. I dunno if it APPLIES frost but being ghostflame it is supposed to. Yeah sure it probably needs a bit of a fix whatever but, it'll get there. For now we should enjoy what we have because when this spell IS improved if ever, it'll be so ****ing cool.

slaps on groups that are not moving or great as an opening spell. one shots a lot of things

I really want to like this. It does good damage when it works. The majority of the damage is in the blue flame effect, but something to do with where the projectile hits can make this not go off at all. I sure hope it's just glitched...

Spell's bugged, unfortunately. The mass is supposed to burst into a sea of ghostflames, but sadly it seems to fail to detonate if it's too high above the ground upon impact. Hitting enemies directly can therefor easily remove ~66% of its damage, and all of its AoE. If this spell were more consistent, it'd be a valid pick.

Some people are saying this is Great Soul Dregs. It isn't. This is Cannon of Haima with a ghostflame aftereffect.

This spell is absolutely worthless. In keeping with the rest of the Death sorceries, instead of being reliable and effective like the other spells in the game, it's unique to its own detriment. It's not great soul dregs 2, it's magma bolt but with even less damage.

This one actually does not disappear when it hits an enemy, it seems to just phase through it and land as normal
Roiling magma if it was peak
