Knight's Greatsword is a Greatsword in Elden Ring. The Knight's Greatsword scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for melee combat. Its skill, Stamp (Upward Cut) also allows the user to prevent recoil from enemy attacks and follow up with another strong attack.

Greatsword bestowed upon skilled swordsmen in the demigods' service, and yet had no rank or title.

Featuring a long grip enabling a dual-handed use, this weapon was designed to dispatch larger foes. Being charged with such a duty was undoubtedly a great honor.

Your own Arcane Scaling will alter the number while inside the game. If you don't meet the arcane requirements for an arcane-scaling passive then buildup will show as 60% of the base values.

This greatsword is good, really good. Has great scaling for any physical type affinities. Is the 2nd longest greatsword. Has fairly unique 2-handed light attack move set. Sadly it doesn’t have a thrust attack, but implaling thrust is a great substitute. With the range of the sword and lunge, it’s amazing at roll catching right after a previous hit. If you ever want to try a quality build, this is an amazing choice. 10/10 favorite weapon in the game.

      • Anonymous

So how does keen and heavy scale better than quality? STR and DEX alone scale better than STR and DEX together.

        • Anonymous

          >looks like artorias’ greatsword
          >has a unique R1 moveset that looks cool
          >scales surprisingly well with affinities
          >somewhat common
Very good weapon I would rate it 10/good

          • Anonymous

I like the 2H R1 but to really make this good it should have kept the 2H R2 and roll attack from the Hollowslayer/Mirrah Greatsword.
As it stands it's a bit weird to be doing skilled and technical attacks and then transition into a clumsy ground slam.

            • Anonymous

Sleekest European style sword in the entire game. The devs used the DS2 Drangleic Greatsword moveset and DS3 Hollowslayer moveset. Its the only western style moveset that has a historical look to it.

              • Anonymous

Something that's interesting about this weapons is that the quality affinity actually performs well here, even competes with heavy. Very rare to see quality actually being viable on anything outside of non-meta high levels.

"KNIGHT's Greatsword": "Greatsword bestowed upon skilled swordsmen in the demigods' service, and yet had NO RANK OR TITLE." Apparently I'm not the only one waiting on the great Kenneth Haight to get his act together and start knighting knights.

Now, this weapon is otherwise quite pretty, but that ridge is absolutely ridiculous. It would stop any cut in its tracks. Really dumb for an otherwise completely reasonable weapon design.

                    • Anonymous

"The Knight's Greatsword is the longest weapon in it's class."

FALSE. Sacred Relic Sword is slightly longer.

                      • Anonymous

Does a jumping R1/standard R2 true combo into an R1? That's pretty nifty in a game where combos are pretty rare.

The actually **** is the drop rate in this game.

I’ve went through over 30 silver pickled fowl foot things in two hours and still haven’t gotten this ****ing sword.

I can kill the Godrick knight in the camp by the war master’s shack 3 times before the silver pickle fowl foot runs out. That means I killed that Knight at least 90 ****ing times. WTF

I don't care how strong or OP this is, it looks great and it has my favorite R1 moveset. I'm digging this for NG+.

Really lame we don't get a Death Blight version like some Mausoleum Knights. They really drop the ball with some of the ashes of war and weapon effects.

I'm having so much with this thing, either powerstanced or two-handed.
Reminds me of my beloved Mirrah's Greatsword, because it's not as powerful as the Hollowslayer from DS3.
                                I love it.

Pretty important to note that just like the Hollowslayer GS from DS3 two handed R1s are unparriable following the first R1

Anybody ever notice how aesthetically similar this looks to Artorias' GS? My guess is they were considering adding it yet again but then decided against it. Wouldn't have been their brand of bizarre-lazy otherwise (just look at the scope of this game) .

this, the fact that it looks a little more mundane, and the flippy Mirrah style moveset.

PS only missing the unique 1HR2 long range thrust of its DS3 incarnation. That was actually a third signature move most ppl ignored since it's 90% show and hard to connect, but so very Artorias :)

I love the look of this sword. Wished at least one damn straight sword had a style similar to this. Farmed the knights because I thought it was a straight sword too. Not that I have anything against greatswords. I just really like square off

                                      • Tested both this and the Claymore on a Quality build, both at +25 and with 55 Str and 55 Dex and infused with the Quality Infusion/Set to Quality Infusion with Ashen of War.

                                        Claymore: 671 damage
                                        Knight's Greatsword: 679 damage

Damage of each weapon with each physical infusion is quite interesting, with the the Knight's Greatsword beating out the Claymore in the Keen and Quality infusions by a mere 5 and 8 damage points respectively, and the Claymore beating the Knight's Greatsword by 12 points. So theoretically, the Claymore would be a better Str choice (If one doesn't go with the Iron Greatsword, Bastard Sword or Gargoyle's Greatsword) while the Knight's Greatsword is a better choice for Keen or Quality.

In game however, it really depends on the user. Personally I find that the Claymore works better with counter-plays with the bonus thrust damage and the quicker R2 pokes being great to trade our punish opponents. The Knight's Greatsword is slightly longer than the Claymore, and is better for more aggressive playstyles, pushing the opponent with your 2-handed R1s and baiting people with the 2-handed R2, and its R1 has a higher likelihood of catching an opponents panic roll if they roll left or right. Its 1-handed R2 however is a tad bit too slow compared to the crouch/roll R1,but both will usually be dodged by rolling backwards unless latency says something. All in all both are really flexible and can be interchanged depending on the player's playstyle/mood.

                                        TLDR:
-Difference between Claymore and Knight's Greatsword's damage is negligible. (5-12 points of damage, and TESTED on a quality build.)
-Claymore shines more for players who like to counter-play or trade with their opponents due to its poking R2s.
-Knight's Greatsword shines more for players who are aggressive and may want a tad bit more reach on their Greatsword.
-One-Handed Moveset of Claymore is easier to master compared to Knight's Greatsword.
-This is an OPINION, pick whatever weapon you like more!

Try it with Quickstep skill. Moving through an enemy stance to appear by his back or his side in one click. In particular against bosses using huge front defense or counter attackj. The range and the rate of the strike make this weapon insane.

Best greatsword in the class because of that sexy wrist flip/sword control alone, tbh I’ll deal with the scaling for the style. I’ve been having fun with this in pvp, damage and reach aren’t too bad.

i got this first try from the knight in limgrave... too bad this weapon needs 12 dexterity! disgusting, i will not level dexterity EVER

This weapon is not faster than the Banished Knight Greatsword, they have the same frame data. This weapon is longer though.

Does Fromsoft ever modify movesets through patches? This weapon does scream pokes like one comment said. I just want the complete Hollowslayer package and the pokes seal the deal.

                                                  • OMFG I just found this out...powerstancing and hitting a backwards dodge (NOT a backwards roll) and then hitting a L1 thrusts both weapons forward. So there's your thrust with the Knight's GS.

I ended up going to +25 with this thing because even though the claymore hits a little harder the added reach on the Knight's GS is completely worth it.

Is this really faster than Banished Knight Greatsword?, I've tried them both and they feel pretty much the same.

There is only one knight who visibly carries it in Limgrave for an early start - at the camp between Warmaster's Shack and Saintsbridge, I've tried to farm this one endlessly, but it seems to have a reduced drop rate compared to the other knights. Anyone had the greatsword dropped from this particular mob?

                                                        • Anonymous

My favorite looking greatsword. I just wish it was a little stronger or a little better scaling to keep up with the competition. It has good reach and a cool moveset, but I don't think that makes up for it's lack of scaling in just about any build.

Mausoleum Knight seem to drop this a lot more frequent for me. Farm the one outside Black Knife Catacombs.

worth noting for people who like this thing’s moveset: the Banished Knight’s Greatsword uses the same moveset. Also requires 3 less strength but is also a little shorter… but also has a different aesthetic.

Fun weapon to use, scaling seem a bit meh though. Can I take this badboy to endgame or will it fall off badly?

This weapon description mentions it has a long handle.... the Cleanrot Knight's Sword mentions that it is best used as a backup weapon for long-handled weapons. Can anyone confirm if it's possible to powerstance both of these weapons together? Possibly having the Farron Greatsword(essentially) back in the mix...

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

I loved this thing at first for its superior length and reach but I found myself bouncing it off of walls constantly. Stay away from narrow hallways or enclosed spaces. The claymore does just as good job as this sword if not better. No thrusting attacks on this sword.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Also, all the moves employ fully the length of the blade to its maximum extent.
Add that it swings so fast that you will stun an enemy even if you get a shield counter incoming... it's a nearly unpunishable moveset.

The default strength build character starts with 16str and 9dex, so for a 50str build you need to invest 34pts, whereas for the quality build that would give you the same dmg output, you need 52pts. TLDR: between heavy and quality, this weapon favors heavy.

Many would suggest using bloodhounds fang over this weapon because of superior damage and bleed, or the claymore because of the r2

However, with this beast you've got great r1-r2 combos anywhere in your moveset, with this much range you can open with an r1 OR r2 on almost any mob in the game without being punished (with this much range i'd argue it's better then a claymore r2 because of the cleave potential and the r1 works well in tight spaces) and oh yeah and did I mention thing can use wild strikes unlike either of those? You can get some good scaling very quickly with heavy and quality too, this weapon is a blast, and it matches gold/brass guilded armours damn near perfectly.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

After trying all of the physical only greatswords, i can't believe i am sticking to one of the earliest available greatswords

Elden Ring heavily promotes heavy jump attacks with big weapons, but with this sword i can easily weave in light attacks and don't feel like i am fighting suboptimally

The reach of this blade is incredible and worth the slight decrease of damage compared to the Banished Knight Greatsword which share the light attack

The blade also look incredible too as final positive

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

I feel like this sword should have received a thrusting strong attack, if only because knights keep trying to poke you with it.

Although that blade geometry makes it real good to pierce.

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Light attack chain is 2 verticals and then 2 horizontals. Heavy chain is 2 horizontals. Makes cool little flourishes after light attacks. Was my go to gs for a while until gargoyles. Farmed it really early at bandit camp west of Summonwater village outskirts grace, which is north of Limgrave near pot boy and right next to the bridge with a pumpkin head that leads to one of those skeleton boat boss graveyards. At grace, head west following the road and youll hit the camp. Kill dog, kill guard. Then kill next guard at entrance and youll see the knight you wanna kill as well as 2 dogs right next to each other. Easiest thing I learned was to use a bone knife/dart and throw it at the knight and it will pull JUST him. Back up a bit and fight him comfortably in the open without any adds! Head to grace and repeat. Also if you are going to use the fowl foot for item discovery, dont fast travel back to grace because it gets rid of the buff. Thankfully grace is a short ride on horseback. Enjoy!

Whoever is editing this page might want to add in that this weapon is more for a Dex build rather than strength. Just got this after grinding for over 2 hours, and this sword isn't hitting as hard as the Bastard Sword I currently have equipped. (For context, both this and my bastard sword are +2, my STR is 25, DEX is 13, and because of that, this sword isn't hitting as hard.)

So if we are a strength build and only leveling strength, do we upgrade to strength or leave it at standard?
