Like others are saying, this ash is a disaster in PvP and needs one of those PvP specific adjustments. This can make the most unskilled, novice PvP player able to beat just about anyone is a duel. There isn't really much to counter it, and for the person using it, literally all that's required is just pressing L2 over and over, there's no other strategy involved. It's so ridiculous that I'm actually very confident this is going to get nerfed hard, it's honestly worse than bloodhound step was on release. This ash is like if bloodhound step on release could also inflict damage.

I admit it, I'm part of the problem, I hope they nerf it at some point.

The problem is not pve, in fact, I would leave it as it is in pve, the problem is the pvp, I don't know if you play arena or coop, but the stager in other players is crazy and the only real counterplay there is is going with heavy armor and weapons that give you more poise, and not many people carry those weapons, in my last 20 invasions using this I lost 4 and the 4 were against another person who was also using the exact same build as me

This Ash needs a nerf. I've been facing off against this thing for almost 4 days now. Be it invasion or co-op, Everyone is blatantly relying on the art itself. No light attack, heavy, jump, back step or running attack. We are essentially rewarding laziness and exploiting a fundamentally unbalanced skill.

Good counter is shield with shield crash forces collision so you can trade through it you’ll still get status but you can definitely outplay it that said I do think it needs a small nerf as an over leveled invader can take out a 99 vig character with one ash of war if built correctly

Good god what is this thing, I have tried finding any counter and the closest that I have found is bloodhound step + starlight and the fp charm to run away until they run out of fp or leave lol. Only other counter is disconnecting as you can't win anyway so what is the point in staying and fighting.

This is simply the most efficient, least skill-requiring ability that I've seen in anything Fromsoftware has put out. We have been trying to move away from L2 Spam being the only viable method of pvping ever since Elden Rings inception, but now you are bringing it straight back to encourage moronic and skilless gameplay. Good job, I am seriously in awe at how ridiculous this ability is.

It is hilariously pathetic how this went in the game without having its FP cost being doubled. 16 FP for a spell that literally turns PVP into nothing but L2 spam. This is far worse than RoB ever was, this is far worse than Bloodhounds step, this is far worse than Frenzyflame Poke stab builds. We might as well just remove light and heavy attacks from the game as no one is encouraged to press anything other than L2 when pvping because of pathetically overpowered abilities like these. Good ****ing job on turning the pvp into a shitshow again. You don't even give it a limitation of elements so every bleed / frost build will be back to being the defacto meta.

I'm using this on a level 30 invader char. It's weak physically and with frost or bleed. You have to spam it over and over for it to have an effect.Nothing like as bad as RoB at release. On the other hand it frightens over levelled phantoms which is pretty funny.

this ash has a easy counter, I'm surprised no one mentioned it. In Elden Ring, you can go to Menu > System > Network > Launch Setting, and toggle that from 'Play Online' to 'Play Offline'.

This ash of war can be avoided by reacting in the starting phase (when the player ducks down before speeding off), during this phase you can either rush forwards, run out of range via the side (so they miss), or back up out of range. If this happens you can punish the player.

Note that this Ash is extremely missable. You must thoroughly finish the Leda vs Hornsent quest steps before even going near Shadow Keep-- And once you are in Shadow Keep, you must participate in their battle rather than challenge Messmer. If you miss their battle, there is no way to get this ash, even if you defeat Hornsent when he invades you later on or when you defeat Leda later on.

It is BUSTED. I am pretty good in Invasions and PvP. I win 3/5 1v3s and almost all 2v1s. With thing, over 100 Poise, 34+ Endurance, and the Backhand Blades with S Scaling on Dex + Alexander Shard + Rotten Sword (The Storm after dash has multiple hits) + double turtle talisman + (talisman of your Choice, i use Bullgoat for Poise) you are a god. I killed 3 People with 2 uses of this ash in 2 seconds while they were staggered. It is unfair but so much fun if you use it :D

Just saw some guy named Elden Lord spam the absolute daylight out of this when I got called as a hunter in stormveil. If you use a move with good armor you can spank them out of it, otherwise you’re kind of stuck rolling inward. Using Prelates charge I did manage to get him as he wasn’t really that good, but I lost anyways on account of simply being unprepared to fight it.

Cool ash of war concept. The improvement that it need would be make both first slash & lingering slash proc together instead having delay on second slash, reduce its range to the same as piercing fang, change the hitbox into pure horizontal to make it jumpable & remove the i-frame to make it chasing tool instead trading tool.

Just got invaded by a dude who put these on a Backhanded blade, then unlocked and then spammed this while dead angling over and over. Literally nothing I could do about it. The attack has what feels like 3 instances of damage and no matter what direction I rolled I got caught by part of it and he could just do it again for free. 0 effort roll catch and pressure.

I don't know who designed this thing and thought this was acceptable balance. Seems literally the most obvious example of a bad-idea busted Ash of War to abuse in PvP

Outrageously powerful ash of war. Seems to give instant i-frames at startup, absurdly easy to proc bleed, the follow up multi-slash covers good ground and hits in all directions. Totally busted in invasions, perhaps less so in duels. Just as good in PvE. This'll probably see a nerf.

WARNING: Do not move near to shadow keep area before you do all hornsent early quest (including giving him food).
Exhaust every single dialogue possible, including after Miquella's charm is broken.

And also do not go in the Messmer boss arena.

It is possible you can break the summon sign for Leda vs Hornsent, therefore locking you against getting this item.

It happened during my playthrough. Even though Leda dialogue tells me to go to shadowkeep to find hornsent, there is no summon sign.

I think it's clear at this point that Michael Zaki and Co. do not play test the game for PvP related balance before releasing. It would have taken no more than 15 minutes to determine that this ash is broken against other players and requires numerous adjustments from recovery frames, to tracking, to poise damage, and more.
