Amazing ash of war for fast weapons like daggers, curved swords and whips. Idgaf abt no pvp but this ash is just that good. Just don't replace your roll button for L2.
- Anonymous
They shouldn't have nerfed this. Every youtuber invader tryhard hated it and it was your only consistent defense against ganks. The counterplay to this ash of war and people spamming it was obvious from the start, it was to stop engaging and bait their aggression with a big punish. Not I can't get away from ganks any better than with regular quickstep and spamming roll, and even then with the poise changes you'll still get stunlocked to death if any of them breaths on you. I hate balance patches and I hate everyone that literal cries for them to happen. It waters down games

Even after the nerfs, this is still obnoxious, just not as obnoxious as dual naginatas with storm stomp or dual nagakibas with spinning slash

Hot take: I think BHS should be applicable only to bows and light bows.

Using Vyke's Dragonbolt is a great way to get the max movement utility out of this
Bit harder to get, but very useful if you run near your maximum load all the time and want a bit of mobility.

Honestly, for as many builds and play styles as Elden Ring allows, I feel that balancing just becomes next to impossible. At a certain point you have to rely on the community to enter PVP with some degree of integrity and not abuse certain mechanics, and the sad thing is, some people can't help themselves.
I use Bloodhound's step on my Urumi since it helps make it easier to maintain distance and counter punish from range, but I'm not doing a ton of damage that way, nor can I back stab anyone, and there is a risk of ending up in a bad position, which will cost my squishy ass dearly.
I've come to terms with toxic builds so when I encounter one I just take a couple of wins as a moral victory, as the other player clearly only cares about winning and is likely seething that their dual spear and off hand rappier build took even a single L.
- Anonymous
Honestly its pre nerf state wouldve been completely justified if you just needed light equip load to be able to use it
- Anonymous
Pretty damn sure they shadow-patched that poison bug for the Night’s Cavalry, can never get it to work anymore. Luckily you can still cheese him off the bridge from the roots by baiting the jumping attack
"Excuse me Sir?" "Mhmm?" "I don't speak Elden Ring fluently; how do you say, "It's nothing personal, sonny boy" Man: *Bloodhound steps* "Ahhhh, thank you :)"

FROM should find new quality assurance testers or pay them more. Considering how this WA was on release, it's clear they couldn't care less about the game.
- Anonymous
fundamentally broken since it can cancel R1 recovery anaimation. same applies for quickstep
- Anonymous
Thank **** it got fixed, really wanted to use this but it looked waaaay too strong to subject others to. Also, thanks for fixing it in a good way, reducing spam, rather than like spiking the cost or some **** that ignored the problem. Now I can go zoom around and actually feel some element of risk in playing.

Demolished someone in the first half in pvp using dual whip alone. Started using dual nagakiba with bloodhound step. tea bagged me after I die? ewwww
- Anonymous
whats the lore of this? how can the bloodhound knights just disappear like that? what are they?
- Anonymous
The Night Cavalry that drops this randomly died as I was entering Lenne's Rise on a new character. Saves me the hassle of fighting him later.

Captains log 5295: PVP continues to ruin this games single player and co op potential

Anyone know if this is still good for dodging waterfowl? Everything I can find on it is pre-nerf.

Really tired of seeing stuff being nerfed because 5% of the fanbase is crying like babies about PVP. Hopefully one day PVP will be completely removed from this game and any other game by Fromsoftware
- Anonymous
Still broken AF.
Gravitas and Storm Stomp + spamming curved swords or straighswords are among the few counters
- Anonymous
Use this on the greatsword and you can become bootleg berserk man

Completely USELESS after the nerf. PvP cancer ruining a great PvE game.

I wish it would overwrite right-hand weapon ash of war if put on left-hand weapon (same as parry does)
I'd run it on wakizashi with 1st right-hand uchigatana (unsheath) and 2nd right hand nagakiba (double slash) :<
but sadly it doesn't... also I'd prefer old two-handing controls with press/hold for right/left hand... but.. maybe in elden ring 2 :D

still a very valuable tool for invaders. can be used to close the gap/make space fast if you need to evade dragon breath or projectile spam.

Miyazaki: "And after all, why not? Why shouldn't I put one of the best ashes of war on the single easiest enemy to cheese in the entire game??"
- Anonymous
Would it be THAT broken if you could put this on a staff? We can't even use KICK! >:(

Pre ng+ post Elden beast defeat, guy isn't there to get the AoW

"Lord Miyazaki people are saying bloodhound step is ruining pvp."
"Its fine"
"They're also using it to get past the lake of rot easily."
"Nuuuu my VISION nerf it so it can't be used to do that!!"
- Anonymous
So, when I heard of the nerf and the reason why it was getting nerfed, I freaked out. I have a full Bloodhound Knight build, with the armor, the claws in my left hand, and the fang in my right. I tend to switch to two handed with the claws when things get intense, like swords that can one shot me, and spell spams. When it got nerfed, everyone was happy, and I went,"great, let's see how much changed". There has been no change in playability for me. Is there a specific reason? What makes this "nerf" so big? I know plenty of people hate Bloodhound's Step, just look in the comments, but what is everyone else doing?
If you truly want PVP go play WOW and stop complaining about ER.
- Anonymous
Even after the nerf this and quickstep are still among the strongest ashes of war, especially if you can light roll.
And Winged Crystal Tear can help you with that.
Now that this has been nerfed people can finally stop crying about it.

This wasn't done to balance pvp Miyazaki was just throwing a fit that people were using it to cheese the swamp of rot
- Anonymous
All of you have forgotten that PvP is the secondary part of this game. None of your cries and complaining should affect those of us who only play the story. You mean your big strong attacks cant hit my light and fast evasion? Sounds pretty logical to me.
- Anonymous
Just use winged crystal tear if you want the old distance back without sacrificing poise.
- Anonymous
tried it out, even at light equip load it still feels like it travels a fair bit less than pre-patch any equip load.

L + Patch 1.06 + "Decreased the travel distance and invincibility frames of Ash of War 'Bloodhound Step'" + "Reduced performance when used continuously". Smoking that BHS-Spammer Pack.

Long have we waited, Bloodhound's Step is officially nerfed!

You use BHS to grief ppl in pvp, I use it to cosplay Lady Maria. We are not the same.
Well, after 1.06 RIP, the animation looks pretty ugly now.

It gets nerfed, so now I can legitimately use it in PVP. Thank you so much FromSoftware.

the amount of people spamming Bloodhound's step + Greatsword crouch poke has officially reached insane levels, it's literally a free hit without punish window available for the opponent.
the only way to deal with it is by trading if you have enough poise, wich is dumb because it negates any other kind of reliable strategy.
the i-frames on this AoW really need to be toned down at the end of the animation, because as it is right now this is easily the most broken AoW in the game.

From: Let's put a skill in Dark Souls 3 that will let people dodge attacks like a boss and nearly break PvP. We shall call it quickstep.
Also From: Now let's put that same skill in Elden Ring but also a version of it that is 10x better. Did we mention we don't know what were are doing?

I am trying out a strengh build for PVP currently where I am overloaded on weight and can only use this aow and the lightning ram to move or do damage. My armor is the lionel's set. So far I have four wins two losses. Overall, I AM A BOWLING BALL!

Didn't discover this until my second playthrough and kind of proud to have beaten every boss without it. Really takes the challenge out of most of them. Increase FP significantly or drain stamina immensely to balance otherwise if I'm looking for the most effective Ash to change the tide of any fight, this is the one.
If you're not a master of dodging and timing up close and don't want to sit back and spam midrange spells like Frost Spear or Comet, this is your move.
It IS freaking fun to use though.
- Anonymous
Just make this function like the second half of Bloodhound's Finesse. Easy fix.
- Anonymous
You use bhs for infinite I-frames, I use it to cosplay Gehrman. We are not the same.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
if you thought this was busted in PvP on heavy armored - colossal weapon users, wait to face a mage that knows how to kite properly.
- Anonymous
I understand the frustration due to the fact that this AoW is OP....
But honestly, if you keep spamming magic or dragon breaths in PVP, I use BHS to get closer and punish you.
It's a trade and it will always be.
- Anonymous
Someone using this invaded me, I was able to bait him into quickstepping right off a cliff. Good times. Not an effective tactic in the arena, though...
- Anonymous
Who need cheat engine when the game itself just gives you infinite i-frames?
- Anonymous
Every now and then developers will develop something extremely busted but fun to play as. We saw this with Overwatch where one character literally reshaped the way the game was played. I think the same thing happened here. They developed an interesting ability that completely breaks both PvE and PvP. You can’t just flat out remove if. If you nerf it to oblivion people will be pissed because it’s fun to use. I think BHS should stay and used as warning for future games: test and balance everything before putting it in your game.

There are a lot of people that really need to chill and take a quickstep back. I think y'all are forgetting something, this isn't Dark Souls. Elden Ring is both harder and easier than the Soulsborne games, depending on how you play. A lot of enemies and bosses hit way harder, with harder to predict attack timing, but the game is more newbie friendly than the previous games at the same time. You are given a huge variety of tools to make the game as easy or difficult as you like. You know, so you are having fun. Some people have fun when every encounter is as sweaty and precise as possible, and some people have fun because of crutches that allow them a fighting chance. You really gonna sneer at people who use the tools the developers gave them to play with confidence, because it's not how you would play?
This game is the first time I've felt confident in completely ditching a shield, because of this skill. Powerstancing greatswords with movement has been the most fun I've ever had with a build, and that's what matters. I've only been able to play PvE so far, and I completely agree it could use a nerf like longer recovery. I imagine it would make a big difference in balancing PvP, that's believable. That being said, if you're one who wants to criticize someone's skills because they use BHS in PvP, I have a suggestion. Get good. Learn to counter it and how to break their crutch. Use the tools the game gives you to level the playing field. That's what I'll be doing when I finally play PvP, just like with any other skill, weapon, or spell someone else is using. Just like any enemy or boss you face in PvE, you pick yourself back up and you keep trying until you get good!
You're allowed to enjoy using this skill. You're allowed to use it as a crutch if you need, and you're allowed to use it as an advantage if you're skilled. You don't need the approval of maidenless commenters to savor your victories. This is a fun skill, so have fun with it!

Fromsoftware please dont nerf for pve. I dont want to dodge waterfowl dance or destined death legitimately
- Anonymous
As a invader I use and will keep using it for Long as gankers exist, you talking **** about this ash, try to invade and you will see always the same three kinda of ganks, frenzy snipers, machine gun sorcerers and that godam red katana cancer, try to Dodge those 3, from either remove ganking and bhs ash or keep both

20 iframes and only 3 recovery? No wonder it's broken. That's the sort of thing you put an internal timer on so you can't spam it. Just make it like once every 2.5 seconds or something.

whoever spam this in pvp are just bad at souls games, should quit playing this game

Every single time someone writes BHS for Bloodhound's Step, I have to think of the Butthole Surfers, lol
- Anonymous
Many people want this removed from the game and I do agree it has no place in the pvp of this game in its current state. However I could easily see fromsoft doing to this exactly what they did to hoarfrost stomp. Anyone remember how players would spam it to get wins before 1.03? You don't see it at all anymore because recovery is awful so it can't be spammed. Do the same thing with BHS and we're golden!

This ability works the same way as quick step, me and a friend decided to have a cestus duel one of us would use bloodhound step and the other used quickstep these are the results. Bloodhound was way better and more reliable to dodge attacks however it proved difficult to land hits on the opponent when using it point blank, quick step was less capable in dodging but allowed for a faster attack we found after using both quick step is better for close range encounters, whereas bloodhound is better for medium to long range ones, the best way we found to use bloodhound was to dash backwards and follow up with a light attack, it perfoms the same attack as a running/back step attack but with way more range than the standard back step/running.quickstep is better used to dash forward or to the side allowing for a rolling attack at a faster pace than the standard. This concludes my Ted talk about the bloodhound step and quickstep.

Quadruple the FP cost, make it so that only claws/fists/daggers/straight sword etc can equip it and we are good
- Anonymous
trying to get some mobility on a big sword this seems like the only option? I just wanted something like sword dance but I guess it doesnt exist. lion's claw and giant hunt I think are the only 2 attacks that give some movement but- shorter range, higher fp cost, and bad animation lock. If this was addressed there might be a few less people using BHS

You know what would be cooler than this? The devs literally importing the Bloodborne Dodge and pasting it as an ash of war. It could be similar to this to the extent that it gives more distance and I frames, but not so egregious to where it goes so far and gives so many iframes. They could even give it a name and lore like “Ravenmount Dash” and associate it with those bird assassin guys.
- Anonymous
I like it. I don't play online so I don't know why people are upset but, I like useing this to escape the Waterfowl Dance and annoying aoes.
- Anonymous
I think this should be a consumable with 15 charges that gets replenished at a site of grace. No disparity between builds, no infinite "press L2 to not die". PS. Some of you get way too upset about this ash. It's a game. Sure, it's got some balance issues, but you could try going outside.

- Anonymous
Good for late game especially against machine gun mages, just dont spam it to piss people off.
- Anonymous
Its not op if you don't abuse it. Personally I use it to get out of sticky situations or by surprising my opponents by finishing them off with a blink and a slash with style. It is broken in a sense that people spam it to constantly avoid damage which is why fights last long, but the majority don't know how to use it properly for its intended purpose. Overall its good/strong to use but also good for those who are squishy, and strategically use this AoW, rather than for those who spam it. It would be nice to put a cooldown on it though for balancing purposes.
- Anonymous
Geez people need to understand that you still have a trade off with this aow. Nearly all aows are op when used correctly and this one especially takes your ability to make high dmg in one hit like giants hunt, lionclaw etc, so the trade off is high.
- Anonymous
Holy **** this comment section is a warzone lmao people who use this ash are just coping with the fact that they cant learn how to press the B button.

This isn't a crutch for bad players, it's a goddam wheelchair.

Honestly this should be flat out removed from the game or nerfed completely into the ground.
- Anonymous
Maybe giving it a cool down for about 10 sec or more might make a good nerf out of it. Chaining into another BS is just tedious to deal with and whether pvp or pve, it takes pretty much no skill. With cooldown, it would take more skill as if it's resource management
