I seriously cannot understand why things that drop from NPCs like weapons, armor, talismans, etc aren’t just obtainable via purchasing after completing their questline. Why TF should I HAVE to kill Boggart for this WA? Just have him sell it, or let me buy it when his quest is over, ffs.
- Anonymous
what a bummer it doesnt change the heavy attack moveset if you are powerstancing. wanted to use this for my radahn build with 2 freyja greatswords. warcry and barbaric roar will have to do
- Anonymous
The two times I decided to have this ash on my str builds, I always got it from someone else. It ****ing sucks having to kill a good npc to get a fun ash of war. Let bro teach me this ffs it's a scream, not some algebra bs

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for some dwarven science! that has probably been done, but who cares. Also kind of a reply to Aug 08 Anon the Second.
TLDR fantastic ash with great stacks but be careful not to cancel them. (Which sums up half the stacks of this game.)
I studied the stacking of this ash (BR) with Regal Roar (RR) and the Roar Medallion / Highland axe (RM and HA... you probably get it), and concluded the following.
- Heavy and charged attacks are boosted by RM and HA; they stack; HA can be left on your belt (so basically you can TH the Axe of Godfrey).
- RM and HA don't increase the defensive buff of BR. As expected.
- The defensive buff of BR stacks, BUT you can't leave the casting weapon on your belt. That means you can two-hand (TH) left, cast BR with left weapon, stop TH-ing, and cast it again with right weapon. Both weapons get ONE attack boost, and you get TWO defense boosts (and presumably stamina, but that's a much harder check without dissecting the game). Given that you can pile Golden Vow and Flame Grill My Steak on top of this, we're talking a ridiculously potent buff here.
But that also means you can't TH, and you're using powerstance. And that's terrible because axe powerstance is useless for L1 chains. So you're unlikely to use HA.
- Likewise, Braggart's Roar stacks with Regal Roar ONLY if you don't two-hand anything. So you've got a buffed whatever on the left that gives you defense, and a buffed colossal weapon on the right that you're not TH-ing AND that doesn't get the BR attack buff (as expected). Again, that sounds like wasted potential.
In a nutshell: it has a niche opportunity for a very , VERY nasty tank build, but its offensive presence is only mildly broken. That also means that this ash can work with powerstance and two-handing both, which is fun to know. Aaand it's only now occuring to me that Colossal with BR + Axe of Godfrey is a powerstance, so I'll just leave that here. Surely the Internet cannot abuse this kind of sensitive intelligence, right?

I have Glintstone Whetblade but cannot apply magic affinity when using this ash, depsite seeing on two separate pages that all affinities work with this. Am I misisng something?
- Anonymous
Basically unobtainable because of the NPC they decided to make it drop.

This does NOT stack with Roar Medallion OR Highland Axe. Just tested this as I was skeptical since normally buffs like these only affect the damage of skills and not the potency of buffs.
The defense buff does not display gained damage negations on your character's stats. Instead, they seem like a flat increase that is applied separately, meaning it thankfully isn't reduced the higher your defenses are (like boiled crab is, for instance). Meanwhile, the attack buff displays the increased damage directly onto your weapon, so you can see the difference in AR on your weapon in the menus.
When testing the damage, I took 1 hit from the exact same enemy's exact same attack each time and compared how much damage I took. Without this ash, I took 248 damage from that attack. With the ash but without the medallion or the axe, I took 223 damage. Still without medallion or axe, when using the ash in my left-hand by 2-handing, then un-two-handing and using the ash on my right-hand, the buffs stacked and I instead took 201 damage (they stack because they are treated as weapon buffs, not body/aura/etc buffs). When I tested with the axe alone, with the medallion alone, OR with both the axe and medallion, I still only took 223 or 201 damage respectively - stacking the buff with 2 weapons did not affect the lack of boost from either axe or medallion at all.
Neither Roar Medallion or Highland Axe increased the attack either. I tested it like before, trying every combination, and neither test's values were higher as a result of having the axe or medallion equipped. It always only gave me +~20% to my physical damage scaling (did not test its effects on a hybrid weapon, only physical damage).
Sad days, boys. Maybe this applied once, but if so, it no longer does.

So stupid how u can't get this without killing crab man. Jus let me buy it from my guy ffs

I wonder if it gives different numbers of hyper armor on different weapons. It feels like HA on nightrider's glaive R2 is greater than on great spear's R2.

Its pain that the vast majority of bosses in the DLC dont give as much time between attacks as it takes to cast this skill without getting hit. Good enough that we have new AoW Shriek of Sorrow with faster cast time to replace it.
- Anonymous
I'm just happy to have a build that doesn't require Shart of Alexander.
- Anonymous
Heavy thrusting swords have have faint. I can just if it's works, you can in a right moment start whining up attack, then enemy baits it and try counter attack in middle of animation you can hit the dodge button and you perform backstep with horisontal swipe.
- Anonymous
The R2 this gives you on halberds is one of the best trade machines for pvp. Put all the usual roar build stuff on plus spear talisman and you have yourself a "delete overextending player" button.
- Anonymous
Mid. All roar stuff is mid and the R2 gimmicky is more hassle than it's worth in 90% of situations because of how high ER's damage gets. You can get objectively better results from R2ing stuff by using RKR or flaming strike builds.

Good News: Stacking this with Golden Vow (spell) and Braggart's Roar turns you into a goddamn super saiyan
Bad News: Have fun juggling 3 different buffs and chugging blue flasks every time you initiate combat
- Anonymous
Pros:
Powerful buff
Long duration
Cheap FP cost
Stacks with Highland Axe and Roar Medallion
Heavy affinity works best for the kind of play style that uses this
Makes R2 really powerful
Cons:
Boggart :(
- Anonymous
The damage reduction doesnt appear to be happening, or at least it doesnt show up when viewing your status like other buff effects do
- Anonymous
Easily an S tier ash of war, it just gives you so much for how cheap and long-lasting it is. I run this over both Giant Hunt and Lion's Claw on my colossal Greatsword. Only gripe is that it's unaffected by both the Shard of Alexander and Old Lord's talismans but what it already offers is generous enough so I'm still happy.
- Anonymous
Braggart's Roar also alters your charged attack if two-handing. Its the same special attack as War Cry
- Anonymous
Rotten battle hammer comes stock on it...
At +25, it's a stun machine.
- Anonymous
i refuse to kill blackguard for this, give me a version separate from the weapon or give me death
- Anonymous
This only gives special heavies if you 2 hand the weapon i think
- Anonymous
Probably the best buff ash of war on colossal swords in particular.

Does this buff elemental damage (for Flame infused weapon) or just physical damage?

Extremely useful for arcane builds that want a weapon buff that isn't seppuku.
- Anonymous
Great all-around skill especially for heavier weapons. % attack boost favors higher AR weapons naturally, get much needed stamina regen and negation boost for trading. Two-handed charged heavy's are fun to play with too in PvE
- Anonymous
Better than war cry but a little less than golden vow but I think the stamina Regen and that you can add a second build up on a weapon makes it worth the little bit lower buff damage. It's very buggy about what it can go on though. There's times it will go on some things then other times they don't come up. And the in-game description says different than what it says it can go on here.
- Anonymous
ive been tooling about with this on a stormveil sunbro build.
It's just slightly better than war cry at low levels in terms of pure damage, my +2 greatsword is doing 620 on a troll with war cry, 625 with braggarts. So, a little better, but braggarts has a ton of other buffs.
the animation for braggarts roar is significatnly longer tho, its only downside really
- Anonymous
This with the highland axe and roar talisman on the greatswords is amazing against players who are super aggressive. Add on a boiled grab and you can trade with almost anything, even dual wielding spear players. I just wish the first R2/RT swing had more of a horizontal attack because it occasionally misses opponents who aren't even dodging.
- Anonymous
maybe add up there that you have automatically have the ash when you have the ball.
- Anonymous
Does anyone know why I can't duplicate this, I've checked my list multiple times and it can't be. No answer online
- Anonymous
Is this just a an arguably better version of warcry while 2handing a weapon for the altered power attacks? Costs the same FP and lasts longer for a longer cast time.
Same moveset change with the power attacks (while 2handing)
Has higher damage bonus (+10% vs +7.5%)
Gives +10% damage reduction
Gives +10 stamina regen
Still has hyper armor during charge attacks, and with the damage reduction, it favors into trading doesnt it?
Whats his damn name? Boggart? Braggart? Blackguard? My Guy is hiding something.
- Anonymous
It should be noted that defence boost does not show on stat screen but you do take reduced damage.
- Anonymous
i've been trying to figure out the percentages for the bonuses since they aren't listed. The consensus seems to be that it provides less damage than War Cry (~10%), I think it may be around ~8-9% attack power (hard to measure with all the different damage types and resistances), ~5% defense boost, and ~10-12% stamina regen (not sure if stamina regen is a % value or if it adds a flat amount of stamina regen per second). Overall, not a bad alternative to War Cry. For the same FP cost, it lasts longer (30 sec vs. 20 sec) and balanced by the longer cast time (3 sec). Unlike War Cry, this only changes 2H heavy attacks, which can be good for some weapons. I believe this is considered a weapon buff, so these smaller bonuses can still be useful if you stack with stuff like Golden Vow or Commander's Standard. The stamina regen is the kicker though - it's not as much as the Green Turtle Talisman but it's the only stamina regen buffs in the game in AoW form (and 1 of like 5 in general - GT Talisman, Greenburst Crystal, Great Turtle Shell, Pickled Turtle Neck, I think Flame Grant Me Strength gives a small unlisted stamina regen buff, and this)
- Anonymous
This is basically still a war cry and works like a warcry, only with some other buffs.
It still changes your R2 exactly the same as war cry.
The stamina recovery buff is significant and really good for a war cry build.
- Anonymous
This changes the moveset of charged fist weapon R2’s to a running charge followed by a long punch. Pretty useful for closing short gaps.

Being a weapon buff and so changing weapons won't keep the buff, best I'd say is to use it on an left-hand weapon, it only lasts for some time but the defense and stamina buff is helpful (it's only that weapon getting buffed in DMG, main hand doesn't.)
Personally been using on my double occult straight sword 80 arcane build with either RKR or Storm Stomp.
Though using another ash of war is also preferable like thunderbolt or any ranged ash of war to catch someone off guard or like phalanx blades.
- Anonymous
This is seemingly considered a weapon buff, not a body buff, for some reason, as I realised because my freezing grease was dispelled a couple of times when using this. That means that enchanting your weapon will remove this buff and using this while your weapon is enchanted will remove this buff too. It also means that you can stack body buffs like Exalted Flesh, Boiled Crab etc. with this.
This means you could use Golden Vow, Flame Grant Me Strengh and this all together for some nice physical damage.
- Anonymous
Seems to also give a poise bonus when using the charged R2's. I tested this with Highland Axe in subterranean shunning ground omens. When using War Cry and doing a charged R2 the omen was able to stagger me and knock me out of the attacks, but with Braggarts Roar the charged R2 was able to poise through the Oman's attacks.
- Anonymous
Does no grant the defense and stamina bonus if used in left hand.
- Anonymous
So I decided to test how this works with Dual wielding. I used two Beastman's curved swords at +24, both with this Ash of War. It seems that the damage increase only effects one weapon, not both. So I two-handed my offhand, did the roar, then went back to dual and roared and that made the damage for both weapons increase. Interestingly, it also stacked the defense and stamina regen effects. Don't know how viable that is since it lasts 30 seconds and takes about 3 seconds each roar. Hope that helps someone!

Killing him didn't drop it for me. A bug? Or you have to let him die by following Dung Eater's quest?

This ash of war changed the charge attack style on the Omen Cleaver. Idk about other weapons. This could be very interesting

Tested to see if golden vow stacked with it and it does. Used the Leyndell Knight near the Artists shack.
Tested with one handed thrust attack
Braggarts roar only: HP 1581-1335=246 damage
Golden Vow only: HP 1581-1342=239 damage
both: HP 1581-1354=227 damage

Couldnt test with numbers, but naked the omen-cleaver dropping enemy in stormhold castle killed me in 5 Hits without that buff. With Buff it were 7 Hits. While the Animation my defense from sting damage dropped from +8% to -19.6%. While the Buff is active the stat Page doesnt Show a difference. So there is a defence buff, question is if it Stacks with golden vow or oneils commander buff.

Just tested the defense boost and it works. At the Artist's shack in western Liurnia, against the Leyndell knight and two attacks, the Shield Bash and the lightning attack where he slashes downward and you get zapped at range:
Against the Shield bash:
No Roar: 1503hp - 1079hp = 424 damage
With Roar: 1503hp - 1101hp = 402 damage
Against the Lightning bolt:
No Roar: 1503hp - 1178hp = 325 damage
With Roar: 1503hp - 1194hp = 309 damage
So non-physical seems to work as well.
Note: The Roar Medallion had no effect on the damage reduction. Weapon used was a Greataxe, NOT the Highland axe.

My weapon's R1 attack power while two-handing is 789. With Braggart's Roar it becomes 848 (~7.5% increase). With War Cry or Barbaric Roar it's 864 (~9.5% increase). War Cry duration is 20s. Braggart's Roar duration is 30s. The time between pressing the button to use the ability and being able to move my character again is ~1.5s for War Cry and Barbaric Roar and ~3s for Braggart's Roar. Data is from patch 1.03. Added duration and cast time notes to this page.

Still only increases attack damage for the weapon it is used on after the update. Hopefully we will get that defense boost next update, boys.
The buff icon shows up though, but the numbers on the stat screen are not increasing. Could always be a visual bug ofc...
- Anonymous
It seems to only boost the AR on the weapon you used it on so dual wielding won't buff the second weapon.

- Anonymous
This lasts about 10 seconds longer than War Cry or Barbaric Roar.
- Anonymous
Appears to be bugged, does not increase attack or defense according to shown stats on status screen. Also does not change R2 in any way, cant see any use for it unfortunately
- Anonymous
Braggart's Roar affects two-handed R2s the same way as Warcry, turning them into charges, but leaves the original one-handed R2s.
No idea how the stat boosts are, though.
- Anonymous
It doesn't say, but I'm fairly sure it affects Strong attacks the same way Warcry does, turning them into rushes.
- Anonymous
This ability is bugged. It gives attack boost and changes your charge attack into a running Heavy attack but does not increase Defense and Stamina Regen at listed. Basically it seems to be coded as War Cry since it is identical to that battle art in everyway.

Battle Hammer from the boss in Murkwater Catacombs has this ash as well. Use whetstone.

This ash of war can be found on Braggart's body.
After finishing his questline, he will drop an iron ball and a seedbed curse as well as his bell hearing, this ash of war is equipped on the iron ball.

this can be obtained by removing the ash of war on Iron Ball

its part of a weapon Iron Ball that you get from the prisoner that is involved in the Lia and Dung Eater quests
Primo GOAT level AoW. Even just the Survivability and Stamina boosts are worth it. I've done a full playthrough with this on an Executioner's Axe and it's the most enjoyable time I've had in the game. It occasionally comes off for Cragblade or Barbaric Roar on (field) bosses that I can't connect a charged heavy with. The charged heavy this shares with War Cry does more Poise than people thing because the steps you take before the attack deal a tiny bit, and the interruption they cause makes it easier to land the attack. IME the most obnoxious enemies for this are any enemy that you only attack the legs/feet of due to the long wind up and them often moving too much to connect. Even so, this has made mincemeat out of even Malenia with little consideration other than Roar Talisman, offhanded Highland Axe, Axe Talisman, and a charged-attack Tear.
