Fan Daggers is a Consumable Item in Elden Ring. Most Consumables grant various effects such as restorative properties for recovering HP, removing certain negative Status Effects, or applying temporary buffs and debuffs, while others can be thrown at enemies to deal damage.

A set of five throwing knives bundled together.
A concealed weapon cherished by the raptor assassins.

The thin knives fan out when thrown, dealing damage to the target.
Each knife deals paltry damage, but the wide range makes it suitable for constraining enemies.

Where to find Fan Daggers in Elden Ring

  • 20 daggers can be purchased from Patches for 160 Runes each. This can be done in several locations where Patches acts as a merchant:
    1. Murkwater Cave: Patches sets up shop in here after fighting him as a boss, getting him down to about half health and then sparing him when he begs for mercy. [Elden Ring Map Link]
    2. Liurnia of the Lakes: Patches will eventually move to the Scenic Isle in the southern section of the lakes. When Patches moves to this location, the limit on how many daggers can be purchased is removed. [Elden Ring Map Link]
    3. Volcano Manor: Patches can first be encountered northwest of the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite site of grace, where a cutscene will play out. Upon reaching the manor, Patches can be found in a hallway in the north of the main site of grace where he will once again provide mercantile services. [Elden Ring Map Link]
    4. If Patches is killed at any point in time before he disappears from his final location at the Shaded Castle, you can collect his Bell Bearing from his corpse which can be handed over to the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold, allowing you to purchase any remaining daggers from Patches' stock.
  • Once you have completed Patches' questline, returned to Murkwater Cave, accepted his surrender, and reloaded the area his stock of fan daggers becomes infinite.
  • Can be found at Leyndell Royal Capital. At the end of the alley, on a body, beware of the enemy hiding behind the wall. [Elden Ring Map Link]
  • Castle Sol: 5x found on a corpse at the edge of the roof of a building in the northwest with a ladder. [Elden Ring Map Link]
  • Altus Plateau: Looted from a corpse in a small encampment in Altus Plateau [Elden Ring Map Link]
  • Auriza Hero's Grave: 5x can be found inside the dungeon. In the first chariot hall just before the second chariot ramp, there is a corpse hanging off an opening on the right side from which the items can be looted.
  • Mt. Gelmir: 5x can be found on a corpse at Mt. Gelmir near the Minor Erdtree. [Elden Ring Map Link]
  • 8x can be found on a corpse near the stairs at the end of the main hall of the Grand Cloister. [Elden Ring Map Link]

Elden Ring Fan Daggers Notes & Tips

  • You can hold up to 40 Fan Daggers.
  • You can store up to 600 Fan Daggers.
  • Sell Value: item value icon elden ring wiki guide 18px 20 Runes
  • Each individual dagger does a bit of stance damage, making them great for quickly keeping stance pressure at close range or poking more agile enemies from a distance. These are the most consistent throwables for this purpose.

If you get down to 2 hp and start running away in the arena, be as mad as you want, you deserve to be spammed by this.

These work with Rotten Winged Sword Insignia. If you stack all of the possible buffs and level dex they can do considerable damage.

This is a secret item that makes bosses actually fight you and prevents their poise from constantly regenerating.

          • Anonymous

I wish these had a scaling boost from 60-80 like on spell catalysts, but for dex. It'd be cool to have them actually do a little damage instead of just being good for bubbles/pve.

Everyone talks about how these are great for chip damage and stuff, but I just found out something else they’re great at; stopping the Ancestor Spirit from healing too much. Seriously, spam these while they’re healing and they won’t get back that much health

Does anyone know how these interact with buffs that increase damage after each hit, like Millicent's Prosthesis?

                • Anonymous

I always laugh at people who use bubbles in pvp and argue that it's highly effective, when there's a million consisten ways to burst their bubble (pun intended) like fan daggers

Best consumable in the game. If you're trying to break a boss's stance but they're in a long combo or animation, run away and throw some of these. Any damage, however negligible it is in terms of numbers, prevents stance recovery.

these are viable for finishing off enemies, interrupting casters, and popping opaline bubble tear. also, you can throw these while running

(coming from a pure caster point that of view that is running a faith/int build 79 in each) Honestly these things are just annoying. They will instantly shut down every spell that you are planning on casting making it near impossible to get a cast off. They also can get you into a stun locks. Now if they staggered a player outside of casting that is fine but trying to get off a black flame ritual and being told no you can't because a consumable that every build can run stops you is sort of ridiculous. Again I think its fine to be able to do that outside of a casting animation or at least most. For example I think its fine if the darts staggered a playing trying to use the dragon breaths since those are strong and have huge aoes but it shouldn't effect spells like Flame of the Fell God or Cannon of Haima since they are long casting or niche.

I went through the entire game without meeting patches, is there any other way for me to get an unlimited amount or am I boned

                          • Anonymous

each dagger u throw deals 5 poise dmg. so basically 5x5 poise dmg per throw. these are basically essential for pvp especially against poise monsters

use these for the incredibly annoying birds, mostly the ones without swords on their talons. (farum azula)
at least 1 will hit their head for a knockdown 9/10 times

These actually have decent PvP application. Don't use these for damage per se, but to stress people out and interrupt sorceries, which tend to have less/nonexistent hyper armor compared to incantations. Great to help a dex non-magic user pressure mages and other rapid light casting types. You can chain throw them faster than the other knives, and the arc width will roll catch very nicely.

if you guys dont find patches after the volcano manor who sells these, hes probably at the shaded castle right before the boss

                                  • Anonymous

Patches is bugged apparently. If you kill Rykard and then revisit his grace... you'll see some weird stuff, don't wanna spoil it. But after you deal with that, Patches is gone forever. No one seems to know where he is as of the time of this post. Make sure you buy these things in bulk, they are VERY useful in pvp for popping bubbles. Really, just kill patches after his volcano manner betrayal quest and save yourself the trouble. He's either bugged, or From Soft had no foresight that people might want his armor and belongings before he vanishes off the earth.
