Troll's Roar |
---|
Look into the distance and let out an intense roar, generating a powerful shockwave that blows back surrounding foes. Follow up with a strong attack to slam the armament down.

Troll's Roar is a Skill in Elden Ring. Troll's Roar is a skill found on the Troll's Hammer, Troll's Golden Sword, and Troll Knight's Sword. This allows the user to distance himself from nearby enemies by generating a shockwave that blows them back. Updated to Patch 1.07. Troll's Roar has Heavy Affinity and is usable on large and colossal swords, axes, and hammers.
How to get Troll's Roar
- Default skill on the Troll's Hammer, Troll's Golden Sword, and Troll Knight's Sword
- Can be found on the top of the big rock just south east the Church of Repose (in Mountaintops of the Giants).
Elden Ring Troll's Roar Guide, Notes & Tips
- This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Troll's Roar.
- FP Cost: 22 on use.
- This Skill is not Chargeable
- This Skill cannot be Parried
- Upon activation, the user winds up before unleashing an almighty roar that sends a shockwave in a sphere surrounding the user.
- Using the Strong Attack button after the roar allows for a follow up, where the user slams their weapon into the ground.
- This follow up does not consume any FP.
- This attack is extremely slow and telegraphed, but deals significantly more damage than the roar.
- Using the Strong Attack button after the roar allows for a follow up, where the user slams their weapon into the ground.
- The skill deals 40 Stance Damage on a close-range hit, and 11 Stance Damage on the outer part of the roar.
- The follow-up attack deals 33 to 45 Stance Damage, depending on the weapon type. Greatswords deal the least, and Colossal Weapons deal the most.
- The roar consists of two components. The inner roar deals strike damage while the outer roar deals standard damage.
- Like all roar type attacks, they deal much lower damage than most skills.
- Damage increases with Base Damage and Strength Scaling
- Roar Medallion will increase its damage by 15%.
- This stacks with Highland Axe.
- If used without FP:
- No spheric shockwave comes out.
- Follow up slam deals reduced damage.
- The reduced damage applies even though the slam itself does not consume FP.
NOTE: This Skill was changed with Patch 1.07 as follows:
- Attack power has been increased.
- Timing of the poise increase during activation has been fixed.

I think the follow up for the AoW is so slow because it doesn’t need to be fast (It would be very nice if it was faster though, I agree) which is why I think this thing’s purpose is for enemies that can be knocked down by the roar so that it gives you time to use that follow up attack while they are recovering from the roar. Strategy guys!

Does pretty good damage with the roar medallion. Good stance damage and decent hyper armor as well. I’m a fan.

Needs a buff. No way this costs 22fp while broken ashes cost 10-15

Really useful ash. It’s a great “get off me” tool when being overwhelmed by small fast enemies like dogs and imps. It absolutely trivializes fights with knights and npcs. It’s also is very useful against invaders as the shockwave can knock them off cliffs.

Some weapons with some dex scaling will get more damage out of this skill when heavy infused than a weapon with more or dedicated str scaling and heavy infused in the same category: IE: Banished knight greatsword vs Iron greatsword, or Zweihander vs Greatsword

Does this skill scale with any attributes or with the weapon level?

Sometimes really powerful, other times really frustrating. User beware.
I tested this. The roar only does 40 stance damage at point blank range, otherwise it does 9 damage. The roar also deals very little damage like all other roars (damage multiplier of 1.9x).
The follow up does slightly above average damage and good poise damage...but it is incredibly slow, you will die trying to use it on most bosses.
Honestly, just spam lion's claw if you want poise damage, it will deal more damage and is faster to boot.

How much stance damage does the follow-up deal? And, Does the roar medallion buff said follow-up?

as a proud troll's knight sword user I'm in love with this skill. 40 stance damage is amazing and combined with the might of a colossal sword I can posture-break everything I encounter

Having a lot of fun with this lately, both in invasions and the colosseum. There are definately more reliable str ashes, but it's so satisfying catching people with the big AoE roar and actually does good damage against lightly armored players. Also while it's rare to have such greedy opponent, but every once in a while someone just runs straight into the followup slam.

The real attack is the roar, and the special treat is the slam attack if you stance break an enemy for extra damage.
I thought it was lame and useless before, but it's real powerful when you treat the skill as separate skills. Something that can be applied to a few other skills in this game.

Surprisingly powerful and fun AOW. I just wish it buffed you like the troll knights get buffed when they use it.

Very powerful if it connects but obviously requires some timing. I could see it being used more if the initial roar shockwave was chargable akin to rejection/wrath of gold for quicker activation but reduced damage/smaller AOE, with the added benefit of being buffed by the godfrey icon. I'd reckon this AOW would be a force to be reckoned with then.

Between Roar and Shard, I would imagine Shard would be better, since they both boost this by 15% but you can weapon swap with Shard. Also, I havent tested it but wouldnt Shard boost the follow up attack where as Roar does not?

The full combo with the hammers appears to do at least 80 stagger damage and is able to full stance break Malenia. There is chain stun potential here. Chained at least twice. Shes seems to have immunity during her side steps.
I love this skill. Looks super cool and does HORRIFIC damage with Shard of Alexander and Roar Medallion.

Does this increase defense? Watching ChaseTheBro use it right now, and he's taking chip damage from damn near everything

Can this be buffed with roar medallion and shard of Alexander

There's a Spiritspring around the base of the rock that takes you directly to the top of the rock. The Ash of War is there.

The roar itself is almost certainly buffed by the roar medallion, but is the follow-up attack also buffed?
South-Southwest of the church of repose site of grace, beside the giant skull referred to as a big rock by the directions currently on the page, is a spirit spring you can use to get atop the giant skull and find the ash of war. Underneath in the giant skulls mouth is also an ancient dragon smithing stone.
