Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame, is a boss who poses a challenge to players. He wields a long spear and has a fireball for a head, which makes his attacks both unique and dangerous. Midra relies heavily on fire-based attacks, dealing extremely high damage.
As soon as you enter the boss arena, Midra will start walking toward you and will summon flame strands as his first attack. These strands can cause high damage if not avoided, so immediately roll back multiple times to dodge them. When at mid-close range, Midra will begin swinging his spear at you. While he is a slow boss, his spear attacks are somehow predictable and can be dodged if you time your rolls correctly. His ranged fire attacks are overwhelming due to their large damage area, so always be ready to dodge when you see him preparing these moves.
One of Midra’s most powerful attacks is the flame explosion. This occurs after he recovers from being staggered by your attacks. When you see him getting up and levitating, it’s a clear sign that the flame explosion is coming. Immediately roll back multiple times to get out of the explosion's range. Failing to do so can result in high damage, potentially even a one-shot kill, so prioritizing dodging this attack is crucial. Throughout the battle, maintain a balance between offense and defense. Midra's high damage output means that rushing in recklessly will likely lead to a quick defeat. Instead, time your attacks carefully and be ready to switch to a defensive stance from time to time. Watching his movements closely will help you anticipate his attacks and react when needed.
Midra can be a tough boss to beat because his high damage can easily kill your character if you are not careful. Study his attack patterns, exploit the moments when he is open for attacks, and don't get greedy with your attacks. Sometimes, it's better to land a few hits and then retreat to a safe distance rather than risk getting killed immediately. Overall, the best strategy to defeat Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame, is to remain patient and go in when you see an opening.

Incredible fight, felt closer to the old schools Souls fights than most. No crazy gimmicks, maybe other than the big explosive attack. I struggled a bit at first to consistently dodge his combos, like the noob that I am, but putting quickstep on my weapon helped a ton. Dance around his swings, and then punish him with charged R2s when he's done. Staggers easily so this tactic worked like a charm
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
easy if you stance break him to death, really hard if you don't have poise damage. he constantly spams room-wide aoes that stop you from healing
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
he staggers fairly easily, and bleed is very effective against him. super cool boss fight glad i found him.
- Anonymous
I've heard that Miyazaki will crumble into dust if you ask him how accepting the flame of an eldrtich being turns you into an elegant midrange swordfighter.
- Anonymous
Kinda sad how he doesn't have a different dialogue if you're a lord of frenzied flame yourself
- Anonymous
I just finished this boss with a character who has no shields, wears light armor, and uses throwing daggers. Let me tell you, Midra punishes people who tend to roll backward and away from bosses when they attack MASSIVELY. Midra's frenzied flame attacks are NOT meant to be dodged by rolling backward, he will catch you. Try rolling forward into his attacks, you won't regret it!

There's few bosses I died too much to, then started to like the dialogue line during the fight by repetitions. This, particularly his opening line, is one of I religiously followed with the same imitated accent every time I entered the fog
- Anonymous
the real mvp of this fight was clarifying horn charm +2, I didn't get statused once
- Anonymous
If this was a normal Elden Ring boss half of his combos would end with a quick backwards-jump swipe to prevent you from punishing (and don't forget the AOE ground wave). He's a little easy considering he doesn't do any of that, but he is one of the best bosses in the entire game. Very clear openings that give you plenty of time to punish. A true Dark Souls boss, almost forgot that From Software can still design good bosses.
- Anonymous
I beat him with my lightning build before I even learned he was lightning resistant. Take that, Blinkbolt doubters.
I know it might have been silly, but would have been cool if miquellas needle (which can literally subdue the frenzy flame) acted as a one time shackle on him, maybe with a dialogue too

Having to do the "initial phase" everytime you go in the boss door got super annoying after a while and I wish from would just let us skip to the start of the proper boss, but that annoyance aside loved this fight. Very satisfying to get the hang of the dodge timings
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Spammed him with Lions claw on great stars and was staggering him in 2 hits
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
despite having an annoying status effect, I really like this boss
- Anonymous
Very easily staggered. My favorite DLC boss so far, love the lore and the boss presentation.
- Anonymous
INT/FTH Bloodflies + Dragonice with Mimic or Tiche. Be conservative to not catch aggro too much and let spirit tank while running out of his range. Worked for me and I'm fairly mediocre
- Anonymous
I just really wish you didn't have to do the initial fight to kill his normal form every time you retry. The resulting tedious runback is the one bad thing about this otherwise excellent boss, one of the most mechanically satisfying and fun fights in the game. He's just fun and his design is awesome. He also has a VERY small stance meter. Like, with the Stonebarb Cracked Tear I was literally staggering him after like 3 rolling attacks with the Great Stars. Incidentally he also bleeds easily, and he's pretty weak to Holy and Multilayered Rings put in some good work here because he's often slow to pursue.
- Anonymous
Another boss in a big arena with constant aoe's and one-hit kills. How fun.
At least he has low health.
- Anonymous
I found staying on his left (opposite his greatsword) and circling gave me a ton of attack opportunities for my sword and shield character
He can kill you quickly with his high damage, but he's extremely vulnerable to being staggered. A very short fight with Stonebarb Cracked Tear.
- Anonymous
Awesome boss just wish you got his frenzy flame head as a helmet what a missed opportunity fromsoft. :(
- Anonymous
If you do not turtle or have a status build (read - if you cant outtrade and stun him while facetanking all his attacks) he is legit not fun and almost impossible. Infinite combos that cover half the area in 2nd phase, undodgeable frenzy flame attacks, god speed. His grab and big boom attack are, ironically, the easiest to dodge. But if you try to dodge his regular attacks (which is a feat in itself considering weird timings) you will have no stamina and prob no space for attacking. Just stack status, bleed and defences and facetank him. +3 Clarifying horn is in Lamenters gaol. Or get to like lvl 150-200 and stomp him
- Anonymous
Funny how many people killed him without even seeing frenzied flame ending, leave alone doing it themselves

amazing cutscene and ost, and a really fair and fun fight in my experience. favourite boss so far!
- Anonymous
This is the boss that made me realize i was probably overleveled at 200 lol. With the +3 fire resist talisman he did like 1/5 of my health bar with his big boom. I just flattened him with Heavy Zweihander Lion’s Claws

Turtle up with moore shield or fingerprint shield with a bleed & frost weapon like cold antspur rapier or cold bleed spear. Trust me it works wonders, helped out a lot of ppl with this one as well.

They finally added something that rivals Mist Noble from Sekiro's strength: Midra Phase 1
- Anonymous
I was wondering why he seemed so familiar yet so eerie, then I realized: he looks like goldmask while being completely antithetical to him in every way, and has a kind of grace that contrasts with his chaotic attacks so well. 10/10 design, very cool boss.
- Anonymous
I liked this boss, and he was on the easier side compared to most of the bosses in this DLC. He was more than willing to wait on my charged heavy attacks. I can appreciate a boss that doesn't bounce all over the room like a spastic. Used the Bloody Helice, though I only got him to bleed once since he kept getting staggered.
- Anonymous
Would have been really tight to get a frenzied flame helm tool from the remembrance or side quest that you could transform with like the dragons or Lamenter.
- Anonymous
I'm doing chip damage to this shrimpy guy with a maxed out guts greatsword, 50 strength, and +11 scadutree. Takes 5 R1's to even kill his fake pre-fight form. Is this the intended experience? or is he supposed to be fought super late in the DLC?
- Anonymous
Not sure how I did it, but you can do something where he gets hit out of his phase shift and then he's phase 1 form for the whole fight.
- Anonymous
Stance break tear + charged heavy talisman works great on this guy. I have broken his stance 5-6 times. Cool design and lore too. Even have a rhythm.
- Anonymous
Had a hard time, equipped banished knights shield with barricade shield AOW and then did it one try. Surprisingly easy to stance break with a greatspear
- Anonymous
Deflecting hardtear, stonebard cracked tear, cragblade. Run into him after the cutscene and deflect into guard counter his 2 spells for early critical. I wasn't able to dodge or deflect his pseudo-phase 2 opener none of the times i tried him. Equip solitude armor pieces since they have insane focus resists and use the new focus +2 talisman. Can be bled. Good luck.

Enjoy Malenia, but with madness and infinite poise and stamina. What even is this boss design? Is this supposed to be the boss "Harder than Malenia"? But I thought...

Greatsword + Lion's claw with stone barb tear = ez win bro had no chance cuz too much stagger
- Anonymous
He is very easy to parry. You can still parry his moves when the sword become ablaze. For the big aoe attack, you have to wait a bit more than you would expect to dodge it, and then you can just jump just after it hit the ground to avoid damage
- Anonymous
Despite being a frenzied-flaming avatar thing, Midra has a decent bit of style when he fights. Ngl he looks like he's having fun.
- Anonymous
...easy with my mage, but man, that was a maddenly cool fight
- Anonymous
Has very low poise with huge punish windows. Just wail on this mf. Charge attack punish ~3 times to stagger, rinse and repeat.
- Anonymous
I used bleed on bloodhound claws, he didn't even get a chance to attack me
- Anonymous

Its somehow my favorite boss in the dlc despite being tied to my most hated status effect. Tricky to dodge but managable, gives decent openings which is rare in the dlc, cool as heck and does not mess up the camera ever. Me likey
- Anonymous
I feel like this boss is bugged to take barely any damage no matter what I use my damage is always abysmal. I'm at 11 scadutree so I'm not weak at all.
- Anonymous
You can stagger him fairly easy. I used cold dryleaf arts on phase one to beat his ass into submission. Then stage 2 I summoned commander andreas and just blasted his dumb butt with the blue pew pew. gg ez
- Anonymous
Died like 30 times as a mage, respec to high defence melee, got him first try without much pressure.

I don't understand the lore behind this guy, why specifically this mansion, why suddenly he transforms into the lord of frenzied flame like getting the same ending in normal game means nothing at all.
Boss feels like should have been in normal game but was cut out and randomly put in dlc
- Anonymous
just use focus talisman and fire resistance talisman, easy first try
- Anonymous
Found him to be very easy but easily one of the coolest fights in the DLC!
- Anonymous
He's honestly one of my favorite fights of this DLC. Very fair and well-telegraphed attacks that feel intuitive to dodge as well as deflect. Fighting him with the Deflecting Hardtear was a blast!
- Anonymous
Lore wise, shouldn't we not be able to summon spirit ashes in this area?
I mean, even torrent is terrified of this entire area and its surroundings, since pure frenzied flame can permanently kill spirits according to new lore.
I guess it's because torrent has more agency than spirit summons, since alot of spirits would definitely not want to fight for us if they had a choice in the matter. Black knife tiche for example.

reduvia is her worst nightmare, could finish her in a minute she has so many free openings

I love everything about this guy except for his body design. I get he's supposed to represent someone who's weak (midra incant. item desc) but im kinda tired of seeing generic skinny hollow from ds1 undead asylum everywhere.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
fun, fair except you have to be perfectly positioned to dodge his giant bomb attack or I just couldnt ever roll it I always had to run.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Not a huge fan. I know its integral to his character but I think i'd personally like it more without the madness. I feel like I make one mistake in phase 2 and then for the rest of the fight if I make another I'll get hit, madness procced, and hit again because I'm stunned.

Melina would be proud that we killed a frenzied flame lord
- Anonymous
I had that frenzy talisman equipped. The one you get from the ageless untouchables. Proc'd rot and bled him out.
- Anonymous
I decided to slap bleed on my twinblade and give it a go. The bleed proc stagger really helps.
- Anonymous
90% of gamblers stop healing before the boss decides to not use its distance closing move
- Anonymous
The arena wide aoe attack he does on phase transition can be dodged by just running under and away from him like aoenia.
- Anonymous
As other humanoid bosses, he´s weak to status effects, a.k.a, use bleed and/or frost. If you're running a strength build, I recommend the Fire Knights Greatsword (ALMOST Chaos Zweihander) with the Chilling Mist AoW. Despite being a colossoal sword, the swings come out pretty fast and because of the boss poor poise, it's super easy to stagger him.
On that note, parrying his 3-hit combo or using guardcounters is also a superb option (remember to equip the Dagger Talisman and MIséricorde!)
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Weak vs Bleed, bleed build work on this Boss, also the explosion can evade by simply run toward to the edge of the room.
- Anonymous
This boss can be decimated with the Wild Strikes AoW and bleed affinity. You can strafe around him in a circle to take advantage of his floaty movement while executing the weapon skill.
I used a +25 Blood Great Stars, which has 102 blood loss buildup.
You'll wanna dodge his first two madness spark attacks and then summon Mimic Tear to distract him before closing the gap to use Wild Strikes.
The only time you should stop (assuming he doesn't get a hard hit in on you - in which case, retreat to heal) is during his phase transition attack. Once he's done showboating resume wailing on him.
At the time my relevant stats were:
Vigor: 38
Mind: 33 (You could get by with much less, Wild Stikes uses little FP)
Endurance: 51
Strength: 38
Dexterity: 35
I was wearing light armor for mobility, and had Erdtree's Favor +1 equipped.

Frenzied attacks are kind of annoying but other then that hes very fun
- Anonymous
honestly a goated fight: attacks are fair and punishable, combos are easy to learn, doesn't have too much health, and his cutscene/design is really cool
- Anonymous
if anyone is having trouble with the madness try using the the ailment talisman
- Anonymous
Didn't knew I was in for one of the most fun boss fights on the DLC when I entered his manse.
- Anonymous
best fromsoft boss is once again an old man that wants to die
- Anonymous
This boss is pretty easy all things considered, you can get two charged heavy attacks with a great katana if you go behind him during his frenzy burst at the beginning, he’s slow, and there’s plenty of charged heavy and jumping attack opportunities, although he can kill you quickly if you get cocky
- Anonymous
First off, what a beatiful fight. And then;
Roll into its melee attacks, dont rush your rolls tho wait for the swing to start
Deals massive amount of fire dmg. Flame, protect me OR flame protection talisman +3 (found in castle enis, i think)
Goes without saying (i have done the mistake for about 5 tries XD), dont use flame weapons
And most importantly, enjoy!
- Anonymous
clarifying horn charm +2 trivializes this boss i didnt get madness procced once
- Anonymous
Extremely disappointed with this boss. Killed him in my first try. I expected much more, from what I've seen in the trailer. What is his lore? Who tf is Nanaya? Why do we even care about him?
- Anonymous
I could kill him with a combonation of Poison, rott, and bleed. But, he is a nasty fella. pump your resistances or you will get one shot
- Anonymous
Simple, fun, cool aesthetically. He feels a lot more "fair" than some of the other bosses in the dlc.
- Anonymous
Was wondering why there wasn't a Frenzy Flame themed boss, well, here he is.
- Anonymous
scary yet sad - this boss and entire surrounding location are probably my favorite flavor wise in the whole dlc. abyssal woods isnt exactly a fun area but its so unique and this guy at the end is just perfect. from has a habit of these kinda 'forgive me / cursed' bosses but they still hit the nail on the head with this one - such a cool fight and incredibly atmospheric leadup
Super surprised to find that he had over 47k HP. He does a ton of damage and has a lot of health, by all means I should have struggled on him but just somehow didn't
