Metyr, Mother of Fingers Fight Strategy

The Best Tips for Metyr, Mother of Fingers:

Melee Users

Metyr, Mother of Fingers can be encountered in the Finger Ruins of Miyr, you may find her by entering the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and interacting with the throne. Follow the path to reach a bell to interact with that brings you to Metyr's arena. This boss deals Standard Damage and Magic Damage, she moves around quite slowly but will sometimes leap around to gain some distance.

Metyr has a few attacks she does with her head, one of which is her Ground Attack where she raises her head until it starts to glow and then she smashes it onto the ground and after a moment, the ground will explode, this attack can be indicated when she raises her head briefly, the attack indicators show 7 lines in a cone shape from her head before they explode. You will be able to stand in between those lines or perform dodge rolls to get next to her to attack her there before she comes up. Another head attack of hers is her Laser Beam. While at a distance, her head will briefly glow and then shoot out a laser that covers a large range in the arena and deals heavy damage, this can be indicated when there are glowing rings around her head briefly before she shoots out her laser. You can avoid this attack by perfectly timing your dodge forward to get closer to her to attack her while you can.

Metyr's arm attacks are pretty straightforward. The first attack is where she swings her arms one at a time in front of her, this can be indicated when she spreads her arms out before she attacks. This attack can be avoided by dodging backward when she spreads her arms out. The next attack is her single arm smashes. Metyr will lean towards one side with her head before she smacks down her arm, this can be indicated when she leans her head towards one side, it would take her a brief moment of leaning before she attacks. You can avoid this attack by dodging to the side so that you can attack her from there or dodge backward to avoid the attack all together. Her last arm attack is her Arm Ground Smashes. This is where Metyr will raise up both her arms and repeatedly hashing down onto the ground, first, it will be one at a time each arm then both arms after, progressively getting faster. You can avoid this attack by quickly dodging backward when she raises her arm and continuously dodging away as she smashes down.

A few attacks that she uses with her body are her Body Smash, Body Leap, Leaping Attack, and Minion Summoning. Her Body Smash is when she brings her arms close to her as she lifts up her body holding it up briefly then slamming it back down onto the ground, this can be indicated when she holds her arms close to her as she goes up. You can easily avoid this attack by dodging to either side and then attacking her from the sides. Her Body Leap is where she will bring her arms to open up her chest made up of smaller fingers and leap over you as she releases smaller fingers onto you which deals damage to you as well, this can be indicated when she puts her hands to her chest and quickly leaps over you. When she leaps you can quickly dodge towards the sides to avoid the small fingers. Her Leaping Attack is when she slightly crouches down before leaping up and slamming back down several times and dealing heavy damage, this attack can be indicated when you see that she slightly crouches or when her legs bend. You can avoid this attack by getting as far from her as you can. Lastly, her Minion Summoning is when she will open up her chest to release Colossal Fingercreeps to overwhelm you, it takes her a brief moment to release them so when you see the Colossal Fingercreeps, you may get as far from her as possible to deal with them first before dealing with her.

Lastly, Metyr's tail attacks, these attacks deal massive damage and can be fatal if you're not careful. One of her tail attacks is her Tail Orb, this is where her tail orb starts to glow purple and will levitate her in the air, later using the force of her tail orb to knock you down. It takes her a while to fully levitate up with her whole body not touching the ground so it gives you time to prepare to either run away or to perfectly time your dodge roll to avoid getting knocked down. Another attack of hers is her Levitating Spin, she will levitate much higher this time and begin to spin in the air in her position then launch herself at you. Just like with her previous attack, it takes her a while to levitate up and she spins for a while as well before launching herself at you, so it is recommended to get as far as you can so the range of her launch does not hit you. Once you defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers, you will be rewarded with 420000 Runes and the Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers.

Magic and Ranged Users

Rotten Breath and Swarm of Flies are extremely effective against this boss. Glintstone sorcerer builds may not have the required stats to cast those incantations. However, you can equip certain items to give you the necessary amount of faith and arcane: Silver Tear Mask, Greathood, Commoner's Simlpe Garb, Ruler's Mask, Heirloom talismans, and Marika's Soreseal.

First, spam the swarm of flies incantation until the boss is at about 60% HP, right before she begins using phase two moves. At this point, summon a tanky long-range spirit ash like the Jellyfish or Redmane Knight Ogha. It will be safe to cast Rotten Breath when the mother's aggro is on Ogha. Keep spamming swarm of flies when she is following you from a distance. Don't get too close to her left or right side, as the crawl attack will catch you. Light builds preferred for this boss.

Metyr, Mother of Fingers Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Ground Attack Metyr will raise her head, it will start to glow, and then smash it onto the ground causing an explosion in indicated areas. You will have to check the indicated areas and dodge out of them, the indicated areas are only in front of her so get to her sides and attack her from there until after the explosion.
Arm Swings Metyr will slightly spread her arms and then swing her arms, one after the other in front of her. When you see her spread her arms, you will need to dodge backward to avoid her swings.
Arm Ground Smashes Metyr will raise her arms up and repeatedly smash them down on the ground, first with one arm after the other then with both arms. When Metyr raises her arms, you will need to quickly dodge backward and away as she will repeatedly smash down on the ground progressively getting faster and stronger.
Body Smash Metyr will bring her arms close to her, lift her body, and hold it up briefly before smashing down onto the ground. You will need to perform a dodge roll to either side when you see her holding her body up to avoid receiving damage from this attack.
Body Leap Metyr will bring her arms to open up her chest to release several smaller fingers as she leaps over you. When Metyr holds her hands to her chest, you will need to dodge quite far to the sides to avoid receiving damage while she leaps over you as she releases smaller fingers on you.
Laser Beam When Metyr is at a distance, her head will briefly glow and then she will shoot out a laser that will cover far distances across the arena that deals heavy damage. When you see Metyr's head begin to glow, you will need to time your dodge right so you can avoid the laser. You may dodge forward to get closer to her to attack her while you can.
Minion Summoning Metyr will open up her chest to release smaller fingers and bring out Colossal Fingercreepers to overwhelm you. When Metyr opens up her chest, get far from her so you can take out the Colossal Fingercreepers before trying to take her on again.
Single Arm Smash Metyr will lean to one side before she smashes the ground with her arm. When Metyr has her head facing either side, it will show which side she will smash to. You will need to dodge backward to avoid getting smashed by her arm.
Leaping Attack Metyr slightly crouches down before leaping up several times trying to land on you which deals heavy damage. When you see Metyr crouching, you will need to try to get far from her to avoid her leaping attack.
Tail Orb Metyr's tail orb will glow purple and she will start to levitate into the air. Moments later, she will use the orb to knock you down.  When Metyr's tail orb starts to glow, you will need to time your dodge roll forward so her attack does not knock you down.
Levitating Spin Metyr will levitate in the air, begin to spin in the air, and then launch herself at you. When Metyr starts to spin in place, you will need to get as far as possible so you can avoid her range when she launches herself at you.

Rivers of Blood is just OP for this fight. Mimic literally tanked the entire fight. Besides, for solo players, it is also extremely vulnarable to hemorrhage

      • Anonymous

not sure if it has a holy weakness, but multilayered rings of light does a ton of damage to it because it doesn't move super fast so it just soaks the entire ring

        • Anonymous

Insanely annoying boss, like WTF. Worse than the Elden Beast. Best strategy I found is to use Hefty Fly Pots. 8 of them were able to kill this thing.

          • Anonymous

I play 50/50 dex/faith, it was around 15-20 unsuccessful tries with melee, and only 2 while using spells, suggest to just spam her, she's very annoyng close range, but very easy on mid/long at the same time

            • Anonymous

The lore is neat, but otherwise a very terrible boss. Same issues with what makes elden beast utterly annoying.
Fortunately is trivial to fight with ranged options.

              • Anonymous

If she is the mother of all fingers, doesn't that include the frenzy flame? That might explain why the two and three fingers were togther once, so basically the frenzy flame is also a child of the greater will in the end, really really weird

                • Anonymous

Imagine how bad it must feel for her to get hit with any blunt weapon. It'd like being rapped on the knuckles, but your entire body is made of knuckles.

                  • This was a relatively easy fight but probably the most boring in the dlc so far, the attacks are very telegraphed, easy to dodge, and it's weak to the status effect known for being op, in similar vain to the Elden Beast this seems like a boss purely put here for the spectacle rather than the challenge, or maybe my scadutree blessing level is just too high right now, who knows

                    • Anonymous

Very susceptible to lightning, knight’s spears staggers her pretty quick. For melee keep to the front, and use deflecting tear for when she turns sideways

                      • Anonymous

Poison arrows with serpent bow is fantastic against her! Prof poison, then I blood backhanded bladed with bloodhounds step myself to victory after a few trays

                        • Anonymous

Guys, Keen Hookclaws with bloodflame blade and rotten winged insignia absolutely melts this boss. For anyone who is stuck!

                          • Anonymous

This boss had one of the biggest disparities in difficulty between melee and spell casting

Was getting absolutely wrecked with my melee weapons but killed her pretty easily once I just gave up and fell back on my spells

                            • Aside from that black hole and spinning laser attacks you must facetank (cant roll through them) and sideways finger creep (cant roll either) her attacks are pretty much easy to avoid telegraphed. She jumps across the arena and is weak to bleed - prepare your status!

                              • Anonymous

Had a few tries on this guy and was barely making a dent. Summoed a guy for the first time this entire dlc, he was a bleed build using 2 swords and killed the boss in about 15secs before I even landed a hit. I'm ashamed of myself.

Am I the only one who tought this boss was easy? took me 3-4 tries, using rock sling and meteorite of astel with double meteor staff

                                  • Anonymous

Could not get a melee build to work. Lost over 20+ times with various weapons, magic defense, and all my best & new spirit summons. BTW, I am a retired veteran with brain damage and severe hand arthritis, so you may have better luck at melee than I did :D
Success then came easily (one and done) when I went to spell casting. I used Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike and good old fashioned Mimic Tear with Shabriri's Woe. In Phase II, when that big black dark sphere appears over her head, keep FAR away. Talismans: used Bull-Goat Talisman (I forgot to switch it out), Radagon Icon, Godfrey Icon, and Flock's Canvas Talisman. Consider switching out Bull-Goat for Faithful's Canvass or possibly Lightning Scorpion Charm. Good luck!

Genuinely the least fun I've had with a boss in elden ring. everyones got their one boss that eats them up and this is mine

This boss just hit me with an attack that isn’t listed here. Started floating, and the orb at the back started glowing real bright. Arena under her got covered in an AOE attack, and she shot a massive laser from the orb, sweeping the arena multiple times. Seems like instant death, you can’t outrun it and rolling through it seems incredibly tight

                                        • Anonymous

seems to me you're missing an attack, the one where she levitates and shoots 2 lasers for like 45 seconds straight

                                          • Anonymous

what do you get when you take one of the worst enemies in the game and make it 200x the size and give it stupid lazer attacks?
a suprisingly fun and balanced boss, actually

                                            • Anonymous

"I am Metyr, Mother of Fingers. I command devastating sorcerous attacks and can conjure the cosmos itself to rain fury upon you. I can unleash sorcery the scale of which you have never seen before."

"Oh that's so cool, what's your strongest attack?"

                                              "... headbutt."

Honestly a great boss from creative perspective, creepy asf, same as the whole questline and the eerie finger ruins. But the fight itself was the worst in the DLC in my opinion. Lingering hitboxes (especially on arm slams and headbutts), laser strikes that happen despite her being in attack recovery frames, and that stupidly damaging attack she does from the sides, similar to the fingercreepers. I don't mind difficulty at all, but this is bs, not challange

                                                • Anonymous

Used the Dragon Priestess’s hammer AoW after failing a couple times trying to proc frost and bleed. I have to say, second phase I found a lot easier to deal with first phase because of how telegraph its moves get. I feel like first phase it multi hits a lot more with way more mobility

Immediately thought of Ebrietas when I saw her. Female eldritch god (daughter of the Greater Will), abandoned, head butt attacks, and lasers. I'm sure Fromsoft was thinking of Ebrietas when they designed her as well.

                                                    • Anonymous

I'm running a weird arcane staff/seal hybrid caster and impenetrable thorns on the albinauric staff do SO much damage and bleed, I barely had time to see any of this boss's attacks. I'm still working on the final boss but I doubt it'll take long, since if I position well to hit with all the thorns my first cast takes about a fifth of his health off.

                                                      • Anonymous

Impenetrable Thorns spell utterly trivialized this boss for me. I first tried her by just spamming it and doing little else. I feel like I cheated.

                                                        • Anonymous

Out of all the fights i've been in, I don't know why my mimic tear in this just ends up side strafing and walking towards the boss instead of charging into the enemy to draw aggro.

                                                          • Anonymous

this boss's spell attacks are HOLY, NOT MAGIC. take a shield with magic res and a shield with holy res in and block the beams. magic res does nothing, holy drops the damage to a fraction. an upgraded haligtree knight greatshield pretty much invalidates everything this boss does.

                                                            • Anonymous

Cool design but man am I sick of large whole body hitbox bosses in this game. Base game already had too many for my liking and they went all in on these for the dlc too. I would have liked some more humanoid boss fights like rellana and messmer.

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

I got her to break stance with the upgraded Lightning Spear. 3-4 well timed casts and she's down. Only boss I ever fought fully at range and I'm glad I did, she's a nasty one.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Did this rocking the curseblades. If you keep in front of her and just learn the stomp patterns it's very doable! The microcosm nuke has enough startup to run away if you look for it. Just be careful how close you are to the mist walls. Awesome fight.

                                                                      • Anonymous

Great katana with cold enhancement and the overhead stance made quick work of her. Cold and bleed procs demolished her HP bar.

                                                                        • Anonymous

Very reminiscent of Ebrietas and Rhom which is very welcome. Also confirms that the Greater Will is not some divine force, but literally just an alien species masquerading as one.

Remember that stars in ER are living literal sentient creatures as proven by Astel. Astel's species are likely just another contending alien race (as is likely the moon and its relation to Ranni) but the Greater Will got to the Lands Between first, and so established its influence first, and just propped itself up as a symbol of divinity.

Remember that Elden Beast is simply a physical 'vassal' for the greater will, i.e. a conscious, chosen form that very likely resembles what the species itself might look like. Metyr is in turn labeled as a 'daughter' which could very imply a related species or this could very well what the Greater Will alien species simply looks like.

TLDR there are no gods only aliens and Miyazaki is a sly clever storyteller

                                                                          • Anonymous

Not my favorite boss but this thing being on the same “level” as Elden beast if not even more since it’s older is so cool to me

                                                                            • Anonymous

Ranni's Dark Moon is excellent against this boss, the moon dispels her laser, which can happen very easily given that she'l use it when you're at long range and casting something, also she's vulnerable to frostbite.

                                                                              • Anonymous

Never had a boss that made me so thoroughly- uncomfortable. Especially trying to flank it and getting obliterated by fingers. I hate this, please just give me my int/faith caster staff and let me stop looking at this thing-

                                                                                • Anonymous

Love how unnerving her OST is. The Finger Ruins themselves and everything surrounding this questline, even the priest's dialogue - was really captivating, mysterious, and creepy. Very memorable fight that I did NOT see coming

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Fire bonk build worked pretty good, specifically used the Anvil Hammer. After dying to her once, I was like nah and nuked her my second try. Wasn't about to get stuck on a finger boss

                                                                                    • Anonymous

using dry leaf arts against this boss is genuinely worse than fighting Bayle, i dont wanna switch because dryleaf arts are cool as ****, but even at scadu level 13 and bleed on them, it still sucks

                                                                                      • Anonymous

You can raptor over her helicopter attack, her spinning laser and honestly everything else outside of some of her fast combos. Gets you a free jumping heavy every time too. Stay slippery out there.

                                                                                        • Anonymous
