Divine Tower of Caelid

divinetowerofcaelid

A massive tower found in central Dragonbarrow, north of Caelid. The sides of the tower are crumbling from the massive overgrowth protruding from the plateau.

Divine Tower of Caelid is a Location in Elden Ring. It is one of the six Divine Towers. The Divine Tower of Caelid is found in Dragonbarrow. Players can reach this location by heading northeast from the Dragonbarrow West Site of Grace (or the closer Isolated Merchant in Calid). This tower cannot be accessed by conventional methods and will require careful platforming starting from the roots that extend from the Dragonbarrow plateau towards the tower's sides and using the ledges and ladders along the side of the tower.

Divine Tower of Caelid Walkthrough

Restoring Radahn's Great Rune

This tower is best visited after defeating Starscourge Radahn and acquiring his Great Rune.

To get into the tower, summon Torrent and ride off towards the tower in the northeast from the Dragonbarrow west Site of Grace. On the way, you can find a Teardrop Scarab on a dead tree root protruding out of the ground, kill it to get a Somber Smithing Stone [8]; be mindful that this scrab will explode on kill, so dodge out of the way after. Continue northeast.

At the edge of the plateau, you will see a large root protruding from the cliffs towards the tower. Jump onto this root and follow it high enough till you can safely jump towards one of the tower's ledges to the left. Beware of the soldier on this ledge and take him out carefully. Note there are a couple of paths to choose & items that can be collected ahead. Take the ladder up and, if you walk to the right, you can find a foot soldier holding a torch on the ledge below next to a ladder. If you move past him & continue around, you will find a Stonesword Key being guarded by a soldier wielding a spear & tower shield. You may now return to the first pair of ladders and walk on the ledge to the left jump across the triangular ledge which has two cracks. Note that you can still summon Torrent at this point, whom you can use to perform a double jump if you aren't confident platforming on your own. Go around the next section and kill the soldier sitting on the ledge. There is another triangular section ahead with two cracks on the right side and another one on the left. There is another ledge on the next section with a ladder. Before climbing up, perform more jumping on the ledges to the left then to find a corpse with Numen's Rune. Return to the previous ladder and climb up to find the Divine Tower of Caelid: Center grace site. Note: you can also proceed directly to the site of grace first, then head back down the final ladder, and use Torrent to double jump left to reach the Numen's Rune with ease.

Head west from the Site of Grace and up the steps to find the door towards the main tower lift. Note that the door is on the left side of the corridor and can easily be mistaken by the engravings on the center wall. Step on the platform in the middle to ascend the lift and then follow the steps around the balconies to reach the top floor and restore power to Radahn's Great Rune.

Tower Basement & The Godskin Apostle

There is a boss to be found at the base of the tower. To reach this location, head east from the Center Site of Grace and down the steps. You will encounter two Radahn Soldiers here and a locked door at the end. Look down below to the right to find a long concrete platform you can jump down to. Look behind you and you will find narrow ledges along the walls that you can walk on. Walk towards a second concrete platform on the left and jump on it. It will break and come crashing down a few levels below but don't worry, you will not suffer fall damage from this.

Walk over to the thinner portion that the platform crashed on and carefully drop down to the wider platform below. There is a corpse here with a Golden Rune (12). Walk towards the center of the platform and look down at the right (north) side to find an unlit lamp sticking out the tower's center. Carefully jump onto this lamp and then onto the concrete platform below. Jump onto the half-beam next to you and then down the two half-beams ahead and below that one. You should now be closer to the tower's center with a soldier to your left. Take him out with ranged attacks if possible and then head to where he was and ride the cage elevator up.

You will arrive on a balcony with a long ladder to the right. This ladder leads up to a room where you can unlock the door from earlier to gain a shortcut in case you die in the next section. Head back down the ladder and continue along the corridor to find a Blackflame Monk patrolling the hallway. Be careful as his spells are very powerful and he is quite nimble with his blade as well. After defeating the monk, check the corpse at the end of the corridor for a Rune Arc. To the left of the corpse is another ledge running along the outer walls. Follow it to another concrete platform below that you can jump on. This one will come crashing down as well but again, you will not suffer fall damage despite the very long fall. There is another cage elevator here that will take you to the basement. You can find the Basement Site of Grace after descending the lift. From here, head down the steps to fight another monk and you will have arrived at the boss door.

Boss: Godskin Apostle

The Godskin Apostle is a powerful boss equipped with a twinblade that has a sickle-end for slashing and a blade-end for thrusting and stabbing. He utilizes Black Flame spells similar to the monks earlier in the tower. When fighting this boss, you want to maintain a medium distance to avoid many of his attacks and only close in during openings. His melee attacks have a bit of weight to them and he does short wind-ups before attacking, similar to but not to the same extent as Margit at Stormveil.

Some notable attack windows are when he performs his Stab & Slash; he has a moderate recovery time after the second attack in which you can safely get one or two hits in. Another one is his Jumping Overhead Slash which has a slightly longer recovery than other attacks and can guarantee 2 hits for you. These two attacks are relatively easy to dodge. The attacks you should watch out for are his Black Flame as it travels quite quickly, you should dodge as soon as you see the casting rune; and his Stab & Pull which hits twice for massive damage. Another move he may use is the Spinning Weapon in which he twirls his blade in front of him as he advances forward. Maintain your distance or dodge through and behind him.

When his HP is lowered to 60%, he will float upwards briefly and then slam down, creating a shockwave around him, signifying his second phase. Get away from him when you see him float. From  this point, he can unlatch the skin of his upper torso from the rest of his body and fling it around to greatly extend his reach as well as unlock new abilities. His notable attack windows during this phase is when he uses the Flight variant of Spinning Weapon, in which he flings his upper torso outwards while spinning his weapon. His lower body remains stationary and if you can dodge through his weapon, he will be vulnerable to attack from his elongated abdomen to his legs for the duration of the attack as his torso is locked in the animation.

He will also frequently use a Plunging Blade & Sweep move where he flings his torso upwards and then slams down with his weapon, followed by a very wide sweeping slash. Both hits are easy to read and can be outranged or dodged and he is vulnerable for a couple of seconds after the sweep. Lastly, he can perform a Black Flame Whirlwind attack where he twirls his weapon in place, creating a whirlwind extending outwards all around him. The attack culminates with him plunging his blade into the ground and causing the whirlwind to burst and extend outwards a short distance from its initial edge. Do not stand too close to the edge even when the whirlwind has stopped moving. The Godskin Apostle seems susceptible to magic damage and his poise can be broken rather easily by using multi-hit spells such as Glintblade Phalanx or Glintstone Stars, allowing you to get a critical attack in.

Defeating this Godskin Apostle awards his armor set, comprised of the Godskin Apostle Hood, Godskin Apostle Robe, Godskin Apostle Bracelets, and Godskin Apostle Trousers. The room behind him is also unlocked and you can find a chest inside containing the Godslayer's Greatsword Colossal Weapon.

The guy below me is right. Fromsoftware is a perfect studio which only makes perfect games with no flaws to speak of. I play the action RPG Elden Ring for the platforming, and I've yet to fall off into any death pits.

      • Anonymous

Why is this the only tower that actually has stuff in it? Also the platforming is fun — it's not From's fault you have the fine motor control of a toddler and anger management skills to match

        • Anonymous

A lot of complaints about the platforming, fully justified as well. But part of the blame rests with a handful of ars£holes leaving messages in seemingly inaccessible places. I think From thought it would be fun for everyone.

            Omg!!!
From software, I am at odds.

            I seen it.

Its really not too bad. Just spend your runes first and you can hop around worry-free. Cool sword awaits..

Hands down the worst section of a souls game.
I can't believe the developers didn't play test this before realizing how limited and clunky their character controller is for platforming.

                • Anonymous

I for one think the platforming is an excellent addition to the game. Adds another layer of thrill. Quite enjoyed this area, personally

oh boy, that mid-game boss sure was a challenge. I sure hope his divine tower doesn't have late-game scaling

                    • Anonymous

This was the first divine tower I ever visited, so I didn't know how they worked; I didn't realize the door was to the left after going up the stairs, so I shrugged and turned around and headed all the way down the tower instead. Ground my teeth at the platforming and Godskin for a couple of hours, and was very confused when I got a cool sword at the end of it instead of activating a rune. I thought all the towers would be this painful to get through, so I avoided activating any runes until very late in the game; I was tying up loose ends and was pleasantly surprised when Limgrave's tower consisted only of some stairs and an elevator.

No necesary need to enter this tower to succed your plan... so quit whining and succeed.

btw ... first try to get Rain of Arrows without spiritjumping what you've seen AND kill it's sleeping guardener (things/people that protect garden(s)) ... preferably with a one-shot.

FromSoftware again thinking they're developing Crash Bandicoot or something...
Stop with the platforming already. This game genre clearly isn't able to deliver it in an enjoyable way. They try and fail with that kind of stuff since the Great Hollow in DS1. There's absolutely no need to put platforming into a well-working action-adventure game when you already have a great combat system. And even if FromSoftware really wants to, they should realize that this kind of platforming was an embarassment even in the 2000s and they seriously need to up their game to produce something of today's quality.

                              • Every time I go down that first hallway the floor is completely covered red with bloodstains. That Radahn Solider with the greatsword has probably got a higher kill count than any of the bosses.

"Seems to be vulnerable to magic and spells with multiple hits stagger him easily."

I call bullshit. I only staggered him once and that was by casting glintstone comet repeatedly, and this was late into the fight.

Many of the Divine Towers around the map appear damaged in an unusual way, where the stone has been deformed and appears "melted". Whether the damage is indeed melting, erosion, or something else is at this point unclear. This is one of the only, if not the only, Divine Towers with no visible external damage. I have a big long list of questions I hope the DLC will answer and the Divine Towers are close to the top -- why are they damaged? Why are there dead two fingers on top of most of them? What's at the center of the ring the towers form?

I've backed out of my inventory and hit B (dodge) one too many times and jumped backwards off a ledge to my death. Twice. 10 minute break.

                                        • to skip basement platforming part from the center grace: drop onto the first collapsing bridge so you land just past the cracks. Orient yourself towards the wall (East) as you drop. The bridge collapses after a slight delay, allowing you to roll towards the wall as soon as you touch it. If you time your roll right (or basically just spam the roll button), you'll land either on the mid-section of a pillar or on the balcony where the 2 blackmonks are. It's better to face slightly left of East than right so you land further away from the monk. To be clear this skips the 2nd paragraph of the "TOWER BASEMENT & THE GODSKIN APOSTLE" which is the most annoying section. You can come back to grab the rune [12].

Instead of jumoing towards the guy with the giant torch by the ladder in the beginnung look down to the right side of the root, there i s another root to drop down, if ou follow that root downwards you should see the chairs in a circle and the items. No Enemies are down here, however this can also be reached by a path on cliffside guarded by some dragons.

The hel is with the level scaling in this place? I have no idea when i should actually be here or even dragonroost for that matter, i feel the wiki suggested level for it is WAY more than 90-110. I get one combo'd by the apostle boss at lvl 117 even with godrickies great rune running.

I first found this door at lvl 34 and tried to basement boss. That didn’t go so well for me.
I’m lvl 105 now so I’ve returned to face the exact same scenario, hence me breaking and using wiki as a last resort.
                                                        Radahn it is then!

If the stone shatters, it's lethal and you will 100% die. If it lands on the ground below, then it's not a lethal drop (but you may still take damage).

Bring the longtail cat talisman for this. You can get it in the Raya Lucaria academy. Totally negates fall damage (as long as it would not ordinarily be lethal.( Somewhat hard to tell what will or won't be lethal but it's very handy for the tower. Might be the best talisman in the game.

                                                                      • Anonymous

I've seen a bug and I don't know where to report it so I post it here.
In Divine Tower of Caelid: Basement, most of the time when I used Furled Finger to help others before the boss area, I suddenly get a lot of Runes (around 100k) for free and then returning to my world without even fighting! Please fix it. Thanks.

                                                                            • Anonymous

You can drop onto the wooden axle above the elevator to the ground floor and slide off onto the platform where you can get in

That turns the route to the ground floor after you've unlocked the shortcut to:

                                                                              1. Beat or run past the first two knights from the central tower site of grace
                                                                              2. Descend the ladder and get on the first elevator.
                                                                              3. Kill the knight sitting down at the elevator landing
                                                                              4. Proceed all the way along the ledge at that level
                                                                              5. Drop onto the axle and slide off onto the platform

                                                                              • Anonymous

Does anyone even know how to get to the top of this thing? No amount of searching has turned up even an idea as to what to do.

                                                                                • Anonymous

the parkour on the inside of the tower is TREMENDOUS and VILE like god damn, i thought its gonna be a cakewalk but you just get insta killed if you fall off a milimeter too high OR you slide off the edge of the platform because jumping in this game has no momentum whatsoever unless youre running. lost like 25k souls sadly

                                                                                  • So I did the parkour to the bottom a couple dozen times before I realized that I could just open the door and unlock the shortcut. PAAAAIIIIN. Still can't open the stone door at the top of the tower though even after beating the boss here, guess it's story stuff or I missed a path.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

The door leading to the lift west of the center grace site isn't open. No option to open it either and I did beat Radahn (and the Basement Apostle if that's applicable). Anyone experiencing this because I'm guessing it's a bug.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Hi guys, did anyone find out what is the locked wooden door near the Center Site of Grace (down the steps where we start to descent to the basement) and how to open it? When interacted it says the door can't be opened from this side. I poked my nose everywhere but couldn't find how to reach the other side. Maybe there is an illusory wall or something

                                                                                        • Anonymous

There's a numen rune that gives 12500 souls on the outside of the tower, on 3rd or 2nd floor. Also, you can double jump on torrent to correct yourself or jump around the obstacle

                                                                                          • Anonymous

...the sad thing is I thought this was just a weird setup like the Divine Tower of Liurnia and just. Went down, thinking that's where I'd upgrade the rune, dealing with all the platforming the whole way. Imagine my surprise.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

on the falling platform, you can be step on it, then roll forward to pick up the rune arc. then fight the enemy on the platform. go up the ladder and open the shortcut with no platforming jumps needed!

                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                You get the full set.

nope, totally intended platforming section, Miyazaki edition, with even more fun inside

You can climb up the ladders, but you have to drop back down to climb the next ladder and so on. It’s a bit of a puzzle and I haven’t reached the top yet
