Words can't describe how fun it is to flip with a big ass hammer and pancake your enemies lmfao. Still my favorite skill after 1.5k hours. Shits goated

For all your giant humanoid problems and more. Waltzed through the clowns at Great Jar's with this on the Duelist Greataxe.

Fastest stance breaking ability in the game. You can knockdown the Black Blade Kindred (110 poise) in 6.4 seconds with any hammer, great hammer or colossal weapon.

question, will it boost with raptor and that jump attack talisman, since you know... its like a jump attack

            • Anonymous

It does grant %100 hyper armor for the entire move. You cannot be interrupted except by grab attacks and certain special moves, I've tested just about every attack in the game, it's not affected by your poise or lack of it. Try as I might I can't time it to get shot by a great arrow during the move, so I don't know if this will interrupt the move (ballista shots always knock you down no matter what).

For me easily the most fun AoW. There is something incredibly satisfying about doing a somersault flip with a weapon that looks like you can barely lift it and then just smack everything down with it.

                • Anonymous

I know it’s good enough as it is—but on a big ass hammer it’s kind of crazy that this ash of war doesn’t have a hitbox on the first slam. It just looks off when you SLAM the hammer into the ground and it does no damage or anything. It should at least have hitstun or something if it’s not gonna do damage because it’s very weird to slam a giant hammer into an opponent and nothing happens.

if you use the briar armor set when fighting against iron maidens (abductor virgins), if your spacing is too close to the enemy your lions claw animation will stagger and your ash of war will not land. in addition your FP will be consumed for the full cost of a lion's claw even though it did not fully come out.

                    • I wish you could put this on fist weapons and do a somersault kick (or the reversed version).

I mean fist weapons need more kicks, we even have a leg as a fist weapon yet it doesn't kick. The only fist weapon which ever had any kicks was the bone fist from ds2 with that cool John Cena style dropkick

Best AoW in the game. Big damage, big stance break and hyper armor. So many bosses are tough because they input read and smack you out of your attack and then counter attack with a big spazzy combo. Well this bad boy lets you ignore this and flatten them or rapidly build up stance damage for a crit.
Also bosses often use the "survive with 1 hp" nonsense and then go into ultra spaz mode with mega combos and hopping all over the place. Again this lets you deal with that quite easily.

Everytime I use this I wish a little bit more that we had an armor set that resembles Artorias better. I've tried so many things but nothing is quite right.

Should be noted that this thing interrupts a lot of enemies you wouldn't except, tree sentinels including draconic, Loretta, and even crucible knights, and it pancakes malenia

                            • Anonymous

I have no shame in saying this baby carried me through multiple hard boss fights. Poise, stance damage, huge numbers, that Artorias swagger, what more could you want ?

                              • Anonymous

Great on PVE, since it cannot be stopped when it starts, meaning you can take your distance and use it to close the gap with a big bonk without worrying about being interrupted. With enough damage, you can just trade damage against bosses, the poise damage even makes Malenia fight more manageable since it pancakes her on the ground.

On pvp is hard to land, but it can be deadly with some setups. Maybe using the Pulley crossbow + sleep bolts, bombs, greases after bonking to guarantee a hit might be a good option

I tried alot of "melee" ashes of war and this on is definetely close to be best. Fast wind up, insane damage and poise damage, fast recovery, i cant even think one bad thing about it. It also comboes excellent with both basic attacks and magic, which alot of other AoW's missing. All in all pick this if you unsure that you might miss some good AoW. Poise damage is kinda too insane, sometimes feels like cheating, for such a low "cast" time.

                                  • Anonymous

Does this ash of war allow you to dodge lower attacks? Like the attacks that can be dodged by jumping (Godrick's axe slam, Crucible Knight stomp, etc.)

                                    • Anonymous

This page really needs details on damage scaling, and timing.

There is a very short (fraction of a second) point after activating where you can be stance broken, and waste the FP, but it's short, it's only a problem if you face a multi ranged projectile enemy.

The "hyper armor" makes you virtually invulnerable (in poise) when the animation starts afterwords. You are still vulnerable to damage and can easily die, you may even take bonus damage but I can't say for certain.

From my own testing (claymore, and greatsword), it does comparable damage (but less stance breaking) to a fully charged R2.

If you buff your sword with fire/lightning/etc, all that seems to stack, and 2 handed gives the same boost as your normal attacks.

The claw talisman does not affect it, even though it looks like a jump.

This will usually oneshot squishy folks or soreseal users. Wouldnt recommend it over giant hunt but still a great ash if you want something cool.

By far my favorite ash of war. Used it with my Zweihander build and swept the late game with it. Would definitely recommend to anybody doing a colossal sword build or greatsword build

This doesn't count as a jump attack for purposes of the Claw Talisman but the front flip DOES count as a roll for purposes of the Briar set. The Briar set does damage before the attack so it will pop a bubble in time to let the real damage connect.

                                                • Anonymous

Putting it on average sized weapons instead of great weapons and colossal weapons is rather comical, there's something really funny about a basic little short sword pancaking an armor clad knight.

                                                  • Anonymous

I put this on a short sword. You won't think a 3 weight weapon can have hyper armor and flatten anything it hits.

                                                    • Anonymous

can anyone confirm LC is lost for that playthrough if the lion guardian is killed by a spirit summons instead of the player? I tried a test just to see, LC can be removed from the original weapon it was on and replaced with a different AoW, but even though I had wild strikes on the claymore LC wasn't showing in the menu for me to be able to put it on a different weapon. the only LC showing in the menu is on great stars, and it has the symbol in the corner that shows its already on a weapon. I have no idea what's happening here, I know I can take a non unique weapon art off one weapon and put it on something I prefer to use, I've done it quite a few times, but LC is the only skill that hasn't been available in the AoW menu after being taken off the weapon it was originally on. does anyone know why?

                                                      • Anonymous

this on great stars with bloodlfame blade absolutely destroyed both duelists on the path and right outside the Colosseum in leyndell.

someone says they didn't have this drop from the lion guardian at fort gael, I haven't been able to reply directly to the anonymous comment, but they think they are locked out of getting the lions claw AoW for their playthrough. that is not the case, the claymore found in castle morne has lions claw as its default skill, it can be gotten much earlier and much easier than from fort gael, it isn't a unique skill it can be removed from the claymore and put on any weapon you choose.

                                                          • Anonymous

so what exactly is hyper armour? does it mean you won't take any damage or that you can't be knocked out of any given action that has hyper armour? or a little of both, less damage and less chance of being interrupted? I used this on the crucible knight past the golden shade boss in leyndell, it patrols the same walkway the invisible scarab that drops barrier of gold is on, they hit hard but it wasn't able to stop me using this AoW on it, I think I did take damage when I was hit in the middle of it, but I'm not sure if the damage was from it hitting me before I could get close enough to it to use the AoW on it.

                                                              WARNING EVERYONE!
If you yourself don't kill the lion guardian it doesn't drop the ash of war and the enemy doesn't respawn, I came here late game and thought it would be fun to see if one of my spirit summons could solo the lion and it did and now I'm locked out of this ash for this playthrough

                                                              • Did some research on the type of damage this Weapon Art would do. Although the Description says, "Somersault forwards, striking foes with armament," it is actually going deal the same type of damage as the weapon you are using. Examples:
-Zweihander and Greatsword will deal "Standard" damage.
-Large Club and Great Mace will deal "Strike" damage.
-Pickaxe and Rusted Anchor will deal "Pierce" damage.
-Uchigatana and Nagakiba will deal "Slash" damage.

I referenced this from an ER - Motion Value spreadsheet where it also says that this attack has a Motion Value of 240; For comparison, the Colossal Sword Crouch "Poke" has an MV of 107. With the right weapon setup, this Ash of War should deal some absolutely ludicrous damage. A funny example is that those "Pierce" weapons, such as the Pickaxe or Rusted Anchor, will deal absurd damage on top of Counter Attacks and a Spear Talisman.

                                                                • Anonymous

This on the Guts greatsword is a powerhouse in pve. Nearly all pve can be easily done on a two-handing str build with guts using lion's claw or flames of the redmanes as appropriate, starscourge greatsword, and a bow or crossbow (mostly for pulling when it's needed).

                                                                  • Anonymous

I use this on my offhand nagakiba with thunderbolt on my main hand one. It is insanely good as a trade punish. Crouch poke spamming greatsword users get BTFO. The hyper armor on this is literally unbreakable from my experience. It can also cover the distance of a roll. The amount of duels I win specifically with lions claw as my last hit is crazy. I'm shocked at how rare this AOW seems to be. I barely see anybody use it against me. It looks cool and it's great in PVE and PVP

                                                                    • Anonymous

Is this thing's hitbox glitchy? Had someone hit me from like 4 meters away with a lion's claw, reaaally strange

                                                                      • Anonymous

This thing on the greatsword is insane. Currently doing 1700 a hit while breaking poise extremely fast, and it’s spammable as heck with the 1.04 update.

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

has a bit of higher FP cost compared to other ashes but definitely worth it. You gain so much hyper armor during the animation it's ridiculous. It also deals a ton of poise damage which means most smaller enemies will be have their guard broken.

                                                                            • Anonymous

-Get a bow from starting class, serpent bow if you have the stats, or buy it from the merchant in Limgrave on the beach.
-Get to Fort wherever who cares is, go along the right and kill the guy before the ladder.
-Quit save and reload because holy **** purple archer funny, kill guy setting on the ledge or backstab if you can kill him.
-Jump down and left to the little ledge/precipe and hide in the room there to get your bearings/talisman.
-Stand on the ledge and shoot at it while it attacks. It can also be hit rather easily here as it dodges into the wall usually and can be hit rather easily this way.
-About three applications of poison will kill it relatively safely but be wary of its jump attack as it can hit you or put it on the ledge with you, if this happens you can always save/quit to put it back or crouch and wait forever for it to bumble back to its starting location.

                                                                                • Anonymous

The hyper armor and poise damage this skill has is ridiculous; even on a twin-blade, it can poise-break enemies that would require multiple hits from a great weapon. If you try to use it without FP, you don't get the hyper armor, the extra poise damage, or the increased attack damage, but it's still a cool flip that hits about as hard as a jumping strong attack.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

I was able to cast it through the barrage of attacks that enemy with many arms does. (You know, that enemy weak to healing spells, has a ton of arms and attacks super fast)

                                                                                    • Anonymous

Plus its part of the Guts Roleplay.
