We deserved an actually unique sleep ash of war/spell instead of this....

Tried it on the dogs in caelid, they're still sleeping nothings waking them up, contrary to the comments I think beast enemies sleep permanantly

Tested it on one of the shadow people in gravesite planes. It and had that purple cloud hovering over his head, but like two minutes in and he still hadn’t fallen asleep so I just had to finish him off the old-fashioned way.

If this ash of war and its weapon are actually upgraded versions of the base game St. Trina's sword is highly debatable. The base game weapon would let you work with 66 sleep build-up per hit which would be boosted by an additional 70 build-up per hit for 30 seconds after using the ash of war for a total of 136 sleep build-up, which is definitely a rather big build-up. Now compare that to 42 eternal sleep build-up per hit which only gets buffed by another 15 eternal sleep build-up and you wont even get to 60... What enemies am I supposed to put to sleep eternally with 57 status build-up? Enemies I'd really like to be able to put to sleep forever can shake it off like 90% of the time and what use does it have to put enemies to sleep eternally, if you absolutely dont need any extra time to damage them, because they'd die from the crit the normal sleep opens them up to?! What is the logic behind this new mechanic?
It's call eternal sleep because it takes an eternity to apply.

If an enemy can only get the stagger sleep animation, this doesnt make any different.
Now rune bears can be put to eternal sleep, but will switch to regular after a few seconds.
tho You can do some big attacks till eternal sleep stops, cause they dont wake up. Helps killing them.
Smaller bears will stay in eternal sleep mode tho.

I'm not joking when I say that the godskins are easier than Godrik when using this

Yes, it doesn't affect players the same way it does pve enemies, but it does have a pretty neat effect of having a tremendous drain on enemy FP. That alone can shut down casters and AoW spammers.

So fun fact: prior to the Day 1 DLC patch, this Unique Ash used to buff both the sword and your *offhand weapon* too. Even better, it would be buffed regardless of if it was a unique weapon or not!
Sounds really good and unique? Well FromSoft thought so too, because when the DLC finally dropped, the Day 1 DLC patch patched those traits out of existence.
Only footage I found of this trait existing is FightinCowboy's Top 5 Unique Weapons video at the 0:43 mark.

test in pvp.
nothing different from normal sleep , but slower build up.
only good for pve I guess.

After some testing, it does make enemies sleep for very long (possible unlimited), but they can wake up from attacking them a few times.

- Eternal sleep for real, any attacks won't wake target up.
- Compare to Sleep, Eternal Sleep is slower to build up.
- If the target has already affacted by Sleep, you can't apply Eternal Sleep on it. However, the reverse case is possible... (but what is the point of doing so?).
- Both use the same "sleep gauge", so you could build up sleep with normal Sleep first, then finish with Eternal Sleep.
*Tested on Albinauric.

Why did they make a slightly upgraded version of the same weapon. This should have been a light greatsword.

I really wanna test this on godskin duo now, but they are already dead for me :/

Haven't been able to test this on an enemy who could survive a lot of this, but does the "eternal" part of the skill actually hold true in gameplay?

They can't even put a base damage increase... marika's tits!
